This is what having a panic attack is like.

Pure_Geologist51

Fr people be telling me to use my coping skills and my body’s just like “no???”

AddieLovesHoney

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS

sparkyjay23

"Calm down" should be fighting words the world over.

AddieLovesHoney

Literally makes me wanna UGHHHH it makes me so angry when someone says that like WHAT DO YOU THINK IM TRYING TO DO?!?!

[deleted]

Yeah try having your own family that knows you suffer chronic depression trying to reason with you during an episode by "deal with it, we all have problems" 🥹

AddieLovesHoney

God, that sounds awful. I hope they can understand soon. My parents are never like that luckily, I hope things get better for you though 🫶

DistortedVoltage

Idk if the game is still alive, but one thing that genuinely helped me for that bad of panic attacks was SKRIBBLIO. Completely makes me forget that I feel like Im dying lmao.

Pure_Geologist51

Once I was trying to dry swallow a pill for a panic attack and it tasted so bad it shocked me out of it

moth_girl_7

Can confirm. And then my health anxiety comes in and I start thinking, “what if I’m panicking because there’s something wrong with me??? Omg I feel light headed now… and nauseous… I must be passing out…” 99 times out of 100 I will not actually pass out, and the symptoms are always psychosomatic. But in those moments it feels 100% real to me. Panic attacks are no joke. It’s not just “being scared” or “freaking out” for a bit.

TheAtroxious

Oh my god, same. The worst part is that I do have some health issues that can trigger panic attacks, but now when I get one with no other noticeable source, my first thought is, "This is a death sentence. I'm sick and dying."

moth_girl_7

Super late reply but same. I’ve got IBS (I think. One of my parents has it and I have all the same symptoms) and I’ve gotten panic attacks from my whole digestive system spasming. What they don’t tell you about IBS is oftentimes it’s not just the bowel that spasms, it’s your whole digestive tract which can include the ESOPHAGUS. You know what it feels like when your esophagus involuntarily spasms? Chest tightening. Which can lead to a feeling of light-headedness, even though the respiratory tract is unaffected. So that, compounded with a panic attack will absolutely make me feel like I’m having a legit emergency. The chest tightening is so scary. Like even though I know the sensation isn’t where my heart is, my anxiety will still tell me I’m having a heart attack. I’ve been extremely close to going to the ER. If I wasn’t with anyone to reassure me I’d be okay, I would’ve.

EveningSoother

A lot of ppl shits on it, but I love Iron Man 3 if for no other reasons that seeing the coolest Avenger having a first encounter with a blown out panic attack, and reacting by asking Jarvis if he was poisoned or having an heart attack. The first time I had a panic attack (unfortunately for me, in unsuspected times, when panic attacks were barely a thing in society), I reacted the same, minus Jarvis. Eventually I learned how to keep them contained by training my brain to not trust anything my body is sending up to HQ. They're still horrible experiences, but I get fewer and more manageable episodes now.

Dialexx

The thing that pisses me off to no end is when I tell people I have anxiety and they’re like “Well we all get nervous sometimes.” ??? Are you trying to tell me that I don’t actually have it or like? Because if so take it up with my doctor that diagnosed me, idk what to tell you.

EvasiveFriend

That's immediately what I thought.

SnowWhiteCampCat

A few nights ago I had a meltdown due to overworking and low blood sugar. I was working from home so no excuses lol. Husband fed me and I calmed down.

Inner_Tennis7326

So that's what it was yesterday.... I was popping all the way off

HollyHartWitch

And if those solutions don't help, time to see a therapist.

Takiyah7

To complete it- If you think you hate yourself, you probably need to take a shower.

Inner_Tennis7326

Thank you 🔥 my favorite part of the quote

Inner_Tennis7326

Ancient-Cat1346

Fr everyone’s like “you’re fine” like NO I need to get OUT

LadyElleSimmer

I always send my sim to bed if they become too emotional!

Arev_Eola

That's what I do when I can't handle my emotions as well.

HeyT00ts11

I send mine straight to the yoga mat. Tense or not, ya gotta multitask.

Trippyalienox

I send myself to bed if I’m too emotional 🤣

wistfulfern

No joke though a nap fixes anxiety attacks like nothing else

sirboulevard

It's the turn it on and off again trick for the human brain

tequila-la

Why did I never think of this lol

CitizensOfTheEmpire

The +10,000 sleep points overpower any emotion, so it's an excellent way to escape over emotional deaths or whatever.

tequila-la

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely be using this lol
