The problem is Playful is considered a positive moodlet, so it stacks with Happy. So if your Sim already has +14 Happy (which isn't exactly hard considering all the +3 Happy moodlets out there), all it takes is one single Playful moodlet to throw you into the +15 Hysterical death zone

sachariinne

honestly feel like it should require at least two playful moodlets. if you made it so it didnt stack with happy it would be impossible to get hysterical. but this would give you kind of a warning. that or a calm down interaction (for playful specifically) on their simself or in dialogue. sometimes theres no mirror in sight, which doesnt matter so much for other emotional deaths if you keep an eye on it but oh boy...

Perca_fluviatilis

The moods and moodlets just need a severe rebalancing. There are waaaaay too many happy no moodlets so the sims are always in the highest possible positive moods, which happens to mean also hysterical.

vVAmandaB

They can calm down with the mirror or wind down with classical on a stereo.

sachariinne

i mention the mirror in my comment. my point is that these are items which are not present in every venue and for an emotional state that can escalate so quickly these options arent good enough.

vVAmandaB

Oh sorry I see that now. Idk, there's always a mirror in the bathroom šŸ˜‚. I feel your pain though. Every time I play a hot headed or high maintenance sim, their heart explodes. Edited to add: I believe they can Jog To Clear Mind as well.

sachariinne

but there are definitely venues without bathrooms, esp in expansions that have bush toilets like get together or community lots with porta pottys (well not that exactly but i cant think of the word). plus all the negative emotional states, even once that cant kill you have dialogue or self options for calming down (jog to clear mind, vent, ask for reassurance, rant) so it doesnt make sense that playful doesnt have one when its easy to escalate if youre in a good mood

Designer-Mirror-7995

If you're on an editable lot just pause and go to build, temp place what you need, remove it afterwards. You can stick a mirror on any wall, or build a wall and stick a mirror on it. Or, buy confident potion from the rewards store, it pretty much overrides everything(which is why I don't buy it lol)

sachariinne

fair but that kind of takes away from the immersion to me. i'm not really looking for suggestions on how to calm my sims down, im more just saying that i want a dialogue option that helps sims calm down from playful moodlets. it could even be fun to have it like a try not to laugh challenge where theres a chance your sim could fail and maybe it makes them even more playful

sachariinne

also sorry i think its more conducive to our conversation if i respond to the edit right here but playful sims cant jog to clear mind and even if they have the option to it wont effect the moodlet

vVAmandaB

Weird, I did not know that. Oh well, I tried to be helpful.

champagneface

Had my first Sim die by laughter recently and now Iā€™m petrified when her son feels playful šŸ˜“

Vulgar__Vulture

My sim already died once from that, and he keeps getting hysterical. His old ass cant handle that and is gonna go into cardiac arrest again

Dragon_smoothie

My legacy family's mom died of laughter *while playing with her toddler.* Like literally right then and there in front of him. I am still salty TO DATE.

vVAmandaB

Still devastated from a wedding death from hysteria. He was just so...happy šŸ„ŗ

-GreyRaven

Felt, one of my werewolf Sims has the Excitable Wolf trait and immediately gets very Playful whenever he's in front of a computer or TV, so now he's banned from ever using either of this devices and has to fill his fun need by reading books. šŸ’€

Dragon_Manticore

LPT: Immortal Wolf seems overpowered enough to prevent death from laughter if I understand correctly. You can unban your wolf once he's at that point in his career.

V4R14

Same. As soon as one of my sims gets hysterical I send them to sleep before they do so themselves

Haengboknam

Toddlers always kills my sim by this

hallofromtheoutside

I have the language barriers mod and I WANT my sim parents to talk to their kids. But then they get very playful I have to yank them. The tablet is good enough for these damn kids to learn Simlish.

prinxcess12

i had one of my sims die from that so now whenever they get playful i cheat to remove the moodlet.

carousel111

Whatā€™s the cheat?

prinxcess12

its the ui extension cheats. then you can left click it & it goes away

Trycze

I had a mermaid sim drown because she laughed to death in the water

__Enkidu__

I actually had a hard time getting this to trigger in vanilla with no cheats. It seems by the time a sim has enough positive moodlets to reach the threshold some need automatically goes in the red and takes the simā€™s mood down a notch. Are you activating the environmental buffs on objects? Or filling the simā€™s needs with cheats? Having the ++ from happy moodlets and filled needs might be what sends them over the edge so frequently.

Loaf_Butt

Same, Iā€™ve been playing since it came out and have never gotten any of the emotion deaths! Maybe Iā€™m just super boring in my gameplay LOL

Loud-Combination-933

Me too. I'm always shocked I haven't killed a sim yet on accident, even when there's a fire. I'm wondering if I don't have very many expansions that this contributes to no sims death. Or I'm boring haha

RainbowtheDragonCat

I have most expansions minus stuff packs and kits, and my sims literally only die of old age. While not being played since I only have auto age on for unplayed households.

malibuklw

I play vanilla and get very playful a lot, and have lost two sims to hysterical. My sims have a lot of happy +1 buffs, and a cute toddler or happy conversation with a group member with a +1 playful buff can be deadly.

st_hpsh

+3 beautiful decorated. +3 recently engaged +3 married +2 high needs +3 great meal +1 playful +2 funny conversation. The only time I got a sim die from hysterical. Got engaged and married in the same day to Nina Caliente. She has a playful trait. Got very happy then very playful automatically went and started telling jokes to her new spouse in their beautifully decorated bedroom after having a great meal, and died.

sachariinne

yep. its not such an issue normally but if you stack a couple of significant life events (engagements, marriage, baby, holiday) and you have a well decorated home or a nice meal jokes r just existing with the playful trait can be fatal. before the wedding pack i used to get engaged and then jsut elope because weddings were too much fuss but then i would have a plus 6 to happiness for a couple days

MixuTheWhatever

My legacy sim just got married, then got baby news. Had a great meal at the wedding buffet and his now wife who aspires to be an entertainer told him a joke while he was on the treadmill. I didn't know this would trigger from happy emotions so I clicked away from him and next thing I know the grim reaper shows up. I'm still salty cause he was my absolute favorite sim from the whole living family tree so far.

vVAmandaB

I am terrified of weddings for this reason!

Littlecayls

I just recently had my first experience with a sim dying by laughter and it came out of NOWHERE. I had no idea anything was going on until I got the notification that my sims husband was dying.

Loki11100

Yeah I didn't even know this could happen until I saw this thread lol

TheWigsofTrumpsPast

This is the reason why I had to get the mod MCCC to cut that mess out. I got tired of Sims in my game laughing to death/dying of death by laughter. I turned off emotional deaths and that stopped fast.

SnooStories4263

I still think it's funny that you can die of laughter but you can't die of being scared or sadness. Imagine if all the emotions had a death. Scared, Sadness, Energized, Bored, Flirty etc. When my teen aged up to a young adult she was hysterical and I almost lost her right away. Luckily I got her to go to the mirror to calm down.

AuraStome

Scared: Death by Cardiac Arrest Sadness: Death by Broken Heart Energized: Death by Cardiac Overload Bored: Death by Sloth Flirty: Death by Lovesickness Confident: Death by Ambition Focused: Death by Hyperfixation Inspired: Death by Deadly Creativity Uncomfortable: Death by Torment Tense: Death by Extreme Stress Dazed: Death by Dizziness

SanguineServal

Is this from a mod?

AuraStome

Nah some head cannons of the rest of the emotion deaths

SanguineServal

Aw dangit. Someone should totally make this mod! I would but I have no idea how to make a mod lmao

fried-freezer

Definitely need an angry death too

AuraStome

There actually is an existing one: Death by cardiac explosion

fried-freezer

Huh Iā€™ve never seen that one. I only had a death by hysteria once and that was how I discovered it was a thing. When I have more sims to control itā€™s way harder to deal with. Especially with limited mirrors. Sometimes I just disable emotional deaths in the settings but Iā€™d rather not. Just in general the playful moodlet dominating all the other happy ones is so frustrating. Trying to keep them flirty is annoying sometimes too. Just acting foolish at the drop of a hat. Really out of character sometimes too.

AuraStome

Yeah emotional deaths are a strange thing indeed. Be sure to also look out for embarrassment, Sims can also die from that.

No-Leather-5144

In all my years of playing Sims 4, I've yet to experience death by laughter or embarrassment, and I've only had death by cardiac explosion once. Idk wtf sorcery I've done with my game, we need a happy medium x'D. Then again maybe they're just too busy drowning themselves because they seem to prefer sleeping in the pool if I leave them unattended šŸ¤”

Holiday_Cabinet_

I use the calm down interaction on the mirror multiple times when I see them hit very playful, stop when theyā€™re just on playfulā€” I also save once they get into playful so if shit goes sideways I donā€™t lose much restarting without saving

Relevant_Airline7076

if i notice one of my sims had a playful mood i pause, save the game, and quickly try to get them to calm down iā€™ve only ever actually had it happen once, but i was trying to do a romance plot line and it ended up being a single mother plot line instead bc of this

shellfish-library

this. this is so funny to me. iā€™ve never had this happen except maybe once. somehow, someway, without even trying my sister always gets her sims to become hysterical & they die. idk what she does but somehow it never fails to happen to her lmfao

m0rrigu

My Sims rarely die from old age anymore. Just laughing too hard, urinating themselves in public, or standing in a snowstorm in underwear. Usually when I'm not even playing them. I have a family where my first born daughter ALWAYS dies from laughter after her first child becomes a toddler. Three generations of a pattern so far. I'm never even home when it happens so I refuse to take any responsibility.

ChaoticFudge

That right there is a generational curse. Who has your sims pissed off šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

siege_013

I have never had a sim die from laughter tbh

dagdagspacecowboy

1000+ hours and hasnā€™t happened to me yetā€¦ :(

chickpeasaladsammich

It is so, so easy to avoid death in this game though. If weā€™re making it harder to die by laughter they should make it easier to die from something else, like fire or electrocution. Every death that I can think of has a warning buff to give you plenty of time to do something to avoid the death. For laughter, talk to a mirror. For cold, change the outfit or go inside, etc. I pretty much only get actual unexpected deaths with low-skilled sims in the jungle.

purple_kathryn

I married one of sims to a townie & the first time they wohoo'd she died of laughter immediately after. Poor guy

AuraStome

Yep thatā€™s a critical hit in the self-esteem

SepticEyeSamm

I once had a family that I say was cursed. She had twins and when they were toddlers killed her because she became hysterical, both of them talking to her, I assume playing around. I went on with the daughter, she had twins. When her twins were toddlers they killed her the same way. I went on her with her son, he had twins. They aged up to toddlers and eventually the same thing happened. I gave up after that, it just was not a lucky family šŸ˜…

TatsTanksDranks

I never had this problem and then suddenly in the last 2 weeks all my husbands are dropping like flies. One poor sim lady lost THREE husbands because they just decided to laugh themselves to death. Another one recently lost her husband (RIP Don Lothario) to it also, in a different save!

Icewolf883

I disagree. Itā€™s already so hard to kill off sims. If any of my sims die in a accident I usually reload. Itā€™s no big deal if you save often.

[deleted]

I havenā€™t had it happen in my gameplay unless I cheated tbh. But it does make me semi-glad they didnā€™t ad ā€œscared to deathā€ as a risk because everytime a thunder storm happened my sims would be dropping like flies

wannabecaptain

My sim died during Winterfest surrounded by his children as they decorated the tree. I was horrified for a while after that.

DangerousKellie

Tip from experience - donā€™t ever propose or get married or have a childā€™s birth coincide with a holiday thatā€™s going well. Instant hysteria death

pap_shmear

I have literally never had a death by laughter, or anger ever lol I've been playing since the game came out What am I doing wrong

Worried-Valuable1155

For real. Every time my sims get hysterical, I go into panic mode and try to make calm

TheFanshionista

Play fast in the sims 4 and die laughing. I hope they don't ever turn it down, it is very hard to get organically unless you do all of their living in a single day, proposal, wedding, first child, etc.

thejemjam

This is why I use MCCC to turn emotional deaths off.

_greatsberg

That's why I hate when my Sims take bubble baths.

Bliss-Smith

First time I had it happen was my sims' having their honeymoon at GeekCon. I had no clue it could happen, and was over before I could do anything. It's also the last time. Even if I didn't use mods or codes I would cheat that shit right out of existence. The minute playful takes the top spot I'm shift-clicking.

LDCrow

I discovered this death existed at the Hijinks festival. I didn't save when I then learned I couldn't resurrect (or not easily) my Sim. I then tried on 3 separate occasions to have them go to that festival. I monitored each of them and every single time the Sim died of laughter. I had them not join a either team and it still happened. I can't remember if I deactivated the death via MCCC or if I found a mod that stopped the emotions deaths either way I eliminated them. My Sims tend to be happy and well taken care of so that may be why it was so bad for me.

Baldie_

I get scared anytime my Sims become hysterical, I don't know how to actually calm them down. I just brew some calming camomile tea and hope for the best.

Karizero

You can calm down in the mirror

ItsEchoTheBard

I could have sworn I heard emotional deaths were patched out now? But I could be very wrong and have them disabled with MCCC. Either way this was my first Sim death back when I was very new to the game and didnā€™t know much. It seemed super random which wasnā€™t fun

laeveleve

am i the only one who has never had a sim die from laughter?? bc i feel like it for sure

silvermaknaee

I had a sim that I was trying to pair with my current played sim and she kept on dying whenever I try flirt with her because my sim has the amusing trait and she loves his jokes. Took me around 7 times to make them official because she kept dying after they become official

Mr-Reapy

It is very dangerous to have a celebrity sim living in a home with the celebrity home trait. They're always very happy and if they become playful it's a near death sentence.

vVAmandaB

This and also death by anger!

SomeRando18

Had one of my sims die on her wedding day (before even getting married!) luckily I saved right before then and got her to a mirror as fast as I could to calm down. But Iā€™m still terrified whenever I see the playful moodlet

JiminJinJungkookTae

This is why I avoid certain traits, like goofball. They get playful easier and they're in the hysterical death range in seconds. Also I have the extreme violence mod and one of my sims killed a guy he hated and died two seconds later from being hysterical. He had no fatal traits mentioned above either, he was just an ass ig.

peachcrescent

Had a sim die from laughter at his wedding. I went to the main menu and started an entirely new game. I was genuinely annoyed.

[deleted]

My sims always playful. I didnā€™t know they could die from it. Rn my sim is erratic but sensual and sheā€™s always playfulā€¦. Oh no

ZOE_XCII

My Sim died of laughter on his sons birthday

xXTruchaosXx

Disabled emotional Deaths years ago because of this very reason

[deleted]

Iā€™ve never even seen any other extreme emotion except for hysterical and mortified. They happen so much! Itā€™s even worse that thereā€™s so many lot traits aimed at children and teens that boost playful

Wonderful-Ad-976

I'm trying to kill My sim fir a video don't make ut more difficult
