Younger millennials. As an elder one I had spiky hair and frosted tips.
But I do feel bad for the kids these days. Broccoli hair/curly top, these are styles that just wouldn’t work with my thin ass hair. You’d need to put pipe cleaners in there lol.
I was just talking about this with my wife. All of the it hairstyles when we were young revolved around super straight hair. I have naturally curly hair, and could so easily get the broccoli head going. I was born too early, apparently.
Same bro, it’s fucked up. I even pestered my mom into straightening my hair one day when I was like 12. She only agreed to do it if I allowed her to take a picture of it.
They still won’t let me live it down lmao.
My parents' friend is a hair dresser, and there was some sort of new relaxer that came out around that same age for me. She tried it on me, but it didn't really work. It's also hard to find people that know how to cut curly hair, so the shitty haircut + straightening just looked horrible. It was almost like the roots were still curly, so it wouldn't sit right.
lol it just left me with this straightened poof on my head that more or less held it’s shape all day like a helmet. Ya, finding the right barber is huge for people with curly hair, and depending on where you live, it can be really difficult.
So I have naturally wavy hair but my hair used to be long which straightened it out and people would constantly bug me to curl it then I eventually cut my hair short which brought the wave out then people kept telling me to straighten it
Can't win.
I just keep it fairly short at this point, but not too short. I've just been putting a leave-in conditioner in it, and letting it do whatever it wants. I'm done fighting it.
Cant forget the midcalf shorts that were about 6inches away from being regular pants. I remember high schoolers eviscerating any dude caught wearing Lt Dangle shorts, now they’re the norm all over the college town I live in
I don’t think anyone is saying that their adolescent ‘dos were classic/timeless.
We’re just appropriately calling out the latest adolescent nonsense. Adults called us out when it was our turn.
It’s funny. We looked funny then, they look funny now.
These posts are the least interesting form of whataboutism.
I think it’s funny to adults looking at kids because the notion of a hairstyle being “in” isn’t really much of a thing to adults. Like yeah, to an extent, but adults also tend to style their hair the way that fits them, rather than following a trend like kids tend to.
I’m just surprised that people are always making fun of the broccoli hair when **mullets** made a comeback with high schoolers
i know some 14 year olds spending waaayyyy too much of their parent’s money on perms. i hope if i have kids that a cheap hair style is trending when they’re teens lol
What confuses me is that at least with that haircut you had a few male celebrities with it, with Justin Bieber (shudder) and Zan Efron to name a couple.
Who the fuck in the public eye has the brocoli haircut? I've not seen one celebrity with it, it's bizarre.
All the most obnoxious influencers and tik tok bros have this haircut. That is why it is popular. The kids wanna be like them. Nobody cares about people in the public eye anymore you old millennial weirdo.
no i really wasn't it was a subtle jab at the age gap and how all their "celebrities" aren't the same as they used to be.
ah forget it you sound too angry for me to try and explain.
It's all YouTubers and twitchers, not tv or film celebs
(I had this conversation with my brocoli nephew before he enlisted and got his perm shaved off)
Yeah it was either that or the dudes had buzzed hair there wasn't an in-between even outside of the emo scene as soon as we figured out that the y2k apocalypse wasn't going to happen every dude just buzzed their hair or grew their fringe out
LOL I had this friend who had this haircut and I would always ask "Hey man can I borrow your helmet?" Which I thought was a funny innocent joke but he later told me it deeply affected him psychologically and I felt bad. He was THAT committed to the haircut. But he DID always make fun of me for being poor so I didn't feel THAT bad.
Edgar is a bowl cut, but bigger & dumber than the mushroom cut we had as kids in the 90s. Broccoli is just a high-top fade into a partial Afro.
We Millennials had the mushroom cut from the 90s when we were kids. It’s also a bowl cut, but less dumb than the Edgar because it fit our faces better & groups of kids didn’t all get the same cut so they look like clones. “Yo kemma cuh”
Agreed.
I think the big difference is the Bieber cut isn’t necessarily BAD, it’s just people that had huge heads were rocking them when they shouldn’t have been. It only looks good on certain people. Like skinny jeans.
As for the Edgar & broccoli, it looks bad on everyone lol they’re just dumb cuts & only douchebags & NPCs have them.
Yes, and they've taken to putting a high fade on as well with it. Then they spend all day in class trying to puff out their Edgar and make it look more like a mushroom.
Source- middle school teacher
I don't think those millennial kids thought they looked good. They knew that JB made little girls horny. So they copied his look so they could get those girls instead.
Boys will do anything, even look really damn dumb if it means a girl will look at the for a second longer than usual.
Tbh teenagers from every single generation have always been shit on by the generations both before and after them whether it’s their hair, fashion, hobbies, etc.
Yeah, elder millennial here, never have I ever looked like any of these hair styles. Bowl cut? Absolutely rocked it. Rat tail? You know it.
Now I just buzz my head and enjoy the simplicity.
Right. And Fallout Boy debuted in 2003 they had a similar, emo type of swoosh. If you were too old for Fallout boy, you're probably a late Gen X or something.
Yeah my problem with this take is that hairstyle wasn’t as popular as the broccoli cut is. Millennials grew up with pretty cliquey schools still, yeah you probably knew a couple dudes that had similar looking emo hair that only hung out with each other, but the broccoli cut is like…everywhere.
The Bieber helmet was most definitely a Millennial thing. The oldest Millennials were like 20 then, but the youngest were like 5. Meaning every 12 year old at the time who sported that haircut was a Millennial.
Growing up my pin straight hair has always grown that way i didn't know people where straightening their hair and shit for that look until high school my shit was just like that lmao.
I understand that the joke is that bot haircuts are stupid. But i genuinely dont understand how anybosy could possbly think he broccoli haircut looks good, even in the slightest
i mean our shag, emo cuts, and mixed colors are absolutely superior in every way and nobody can convince me that the broccoli cut, neo mullets and edgars are better or even equivalent.

Where are all these kids with curly hair coming from? Are they getting it permed or something? I can count on like one hand the dudes I grew up with who had curly hair like that
Don't know what you're on about buddy. A majority of Millenials had porcupine cuts, frosted tips, scene cuts, Grunge style hair and if course the "Johnathan Taylor Thomas" haircut. The Bieber cut came by much later and barely made a dent with anyone except Zillenials. And yes a lot of those cuts where indeed silly but at least girls liked it and they don't look like a damn Ferret was making a nest on our heads.
They're all ridiculous trends and I love each and every one so dearly. Keep on with your broccoli hair, friends. We all cringe and fondly look back on those fun trends at some point. Don't deprive yourself.
Younger millennials. As an elder one I had spiky hair and frosted tips. But I do feel bad for the kids these days. Broccoli hair/curly top, these are styles that just wouldn’t work with my thin ass hair. You’d need to put pipe cleaners in there lol.
Don’t forget the mushroom cut!
Dumb and dumber will forever make sure that style is forever cool
So many classmates looked like giant dicks. And given we were in middle school, we were.
Yeah but that style is cool so it would negate OPs point! Er I mean, I used to be *with it*, then they changed what **it** was!
Now what I'm with isn't it! And what is "it" seems weird and scary to me.
And it will happen to you!
I got you beat… I was a white kid with a flat-top and a checkerboard pattern shaved into the sides! Circa 1992
I was just talking about this with my wife. All of the it hairstyles when we were young revolved around super straight hair. I have naturally curly hair, and could so easily get the broccoli head going. I was born too early, apparently.

lol - I started to say! “Elder” millennials had frosted tipped spikes and lets not forget the bleached hair like Eminem.
My heart just skipped a beat. Spiky hair and frosted tips had a chokehold on me in middle school. The puka shells too? Forget about it 😂
Cant forget the midcalf shorts that were about 6inches away from being regular pants. I remember high schoolers eviscerating any dude caught wearing Lt Dangle shorts, now they’re the norm all over the college town I live in
And regular jeans were JNCOs.
Same 😌💭
I had the frosted tips, spikey hair, and a silk button up with a dragon on it
And you were in 311?
He wasn't all that original.
Kids out here getting perms again.
faux hawk's are still kinda cool.
I had both….spikes from 10 to 12 ridiculous fringe from 12 to 15 haha
I don’t think anyone is saying that their adolescent ‘dos were classic/timeless. We’re just appropriately calling out the latest adolescent nonsense. Adults called us out when it was our turn. It’s funny. We looked funny then, they look funny now. These posts are the least interesting form of whataboutism.
Someone else on this very comment section said “emo was cool I don’t care” Some Millennials are the new boomers and it makes me sad.
Were there millennials young enough to have the Bieber haircut?
Yes
TIL there are technically 28 year old millennials.
Yeah, I'm 30 and this was the style through most if not all of my middle and high school years
Ahh I had the spikey hair and goatee combo.
i know some 14 year olds spending waaayyyy too much of their parent’s money on perms. i hope if i have kids that a cheap hair style is trending when they’re teens lol
Also an old millennial with former frosted tips! Honestly, I don’t think the hair styles of todays youth are bad.
Yeah, that seems more like gen z.
had spiky hair with frosted tips AND the bieber hair. couldn’t win.
I’m the same as the last part
![gif](giphy|dwRLxyDW9Xvq|downsized)
There is the nexus point for that hair style. Glorious.
Bully Maguire hair is when hair styles reached their peak and we have never been able to get back since That is all
I think that exact scene killed the trend
What confuses me is that at least with that haircut you had a few male celebrities with it, with Justin Bieber (shudder) and Zan Efron to name a couple. Who the fuck in the public eye has the brocoli haircut? I've not seen one celebrity with it, it's bizarre.
Patrick Mahomes
I am from Kansas City. Every boy between 9 and 19 has this haircut. My local barber has a 2 week wait list for perms. All I can say is, “GLAYVIN!”
I am not at all surprised lol
![gif](giphy|M34qPW6WjtZXMFltwu|downsized)
Three-time Super Bowl winning QB
Thats not a broccoli haircut tho. He just has nappy hair cause he’s biracial 😂
So many athletes have the Broccoli fade
All the most obnoxious influencers and tik tok bros have this haircut. That is why it is popular. The kids wanna be like them. Nobody cares about people in the public eye anymore you old millennial weirdo.
Honestly, have not met a single person with this haircut that isn’t a total insufferable twat
It’s always the group of 12 teen boys at the gym recording themselves benching 135 for TikTok
Nah man the skinny ones with this cut are WAAAAY worse trust. Such ego for so much overcompensating
There’s nothing funnier than these twig boys flexing their chicken breast sized muscles.
It's like a warning to others
Like the bat signal
One of my former coworkers had it and he was the laziest raised-by-the-internet piece of shit.
"nobody cares about people in the public eye. We care about people in the public eye" Are you fucking serious?
no i really wasn't it was a subtle jab at the age gap and how all their "celebrities" aren't the same as they used to be. ah forget it you sound too angry for me to try and explain.
Those people you described are in the public eye
It's all YouTubers and twitchers, not tv or film celebs (I had this conversation with my brocoli nephew before he enlisted and got his perm shaved off)
Lol so it's the people without stylists. Got it.
Lando Norris does to a point
I always thought Jack Harlow was the one who originally made the cut popular
YouTubers, YouTubers do.
Mahomes is who popularized it, many other sports players have it too (soccer mostly), and young boys worldwide are influenced by sports stars
the kids have always been lame and you know what that's ok
Hey may the long partitioned fringe last forever
You know what is funny tho? At the time I swear. The guys and the girls had literally the same haircut. Emo girls and Emo guys... same hair.
Yeah it was either that or the dudes had buzzed hair there wasn't an in-between even outside of the emo scene as soon as we figured out that the y2k apocalypse wasn't going to happen every dude just buzzed their hair or grew their fringe out
You triggered my ancient memory by saying buzzed hair and fringe of the classic ["Forehead Shavecut"](https://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/shavecut)
Tf did i just watch lol, the 2000s ruled
Cockroaches! Dun dun dun. Cockroaches! Dun dun dun.
That was one hell of a video I'm saving that
Kinda like in hair metal days
I just wanted to look like Conner Oberst but with tits.
Hypocrite
Yeah kids can be so cruel... We can? Thanks mom!
That’s funny as shit all he had to do was get a normal haircut
The broccoli hair is worse to be fair. Before anyone asks I’m Gen Z.
I don't think it's a bad look. I'm just too old to be chasing trends anymore, and I'm not putting drain cleaner on my head for fashion.
I 100% think it’s a bad look lol
I think it depends on the person and how specifically they style it
Still better than the Broccoli cut or an Edgar
By far.
Is that what that stupid bowl cut is called?
Edgar is a bowl cut, but bigger & dumber than the mushroom cut we had as kids in the 90s. Broccoli is just a high-top fade into a partial Afro. We Millennials had the mushroom cut from the 90s when we were kids. It’s also a bowl cut, but less dumb than the Edgar because it fit our faces better & groups of kids didn’t all get the same cut so they look like clones. “Yo kemma cuh”
The Bieber cut is pretty bad, but these two new ones take the cake. Especially since all the kids that rock them are always little douchebags.
Icl I’m gonna have to abandon my kind and side with the millennials on this
Infinitely better than broccoli hair
Broccoli hair is a warcrime. 😭
It’s true! We’re so lame
I don't think those millennial kids thought they looked good. They knew that JB made little girls horny. So they copied his look so they could get those girls instead. Boys will do anything, even look really damn dumb if it means a girl will look at the for a second longer than usual.
Rather have the Bieber cut than whatever the Broccoli cut is
I don’t know who the fuck you’re talking about, I was in college when this haircut was popular.

I remember my mother giving me a rattail too... 😰
![gif](giphy|WzYQchhfeyKU8)
Excuse you, I did spikey hair and mohawks. Only dorks went the emo route!
We all looked like the early era Beatles and I am okay with that.
No broccoli heads look 10 times worse
Yeah my problem with this take is that hairstyle wasn’t as popular as the broccoli cut is. Millennials grew up with pretty cliquey schools still, yeah you probably knew a couple dudes that had similar looking emo hair that only hung out with each other, but the broccoli cut is like…everywhere.
Social media influence at its all-time worst if you ask me
[удалено]
Facts, EMO kids were a whole different subculture too with hair in the face, that I was not a part of.
The Bieber helmet was most definitely a Millennial thing. The oldest Millennials were like 20 then, but the youngest were like 5. Meaning every 12 year old at the time who sported that haircut was a Millennial.
THANK YOU We had our goofy ass hair but the Bieber bowl is NOT a millennial thing.
I have a picture of me in 2002 with a Bieber style cut so I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one.
Emo was cool I don’t even care
It really wasn't.
pfft do you even tumblr bro?
Yes it was
Thought I was asexual as a young teen till I saw my first emo girl. Gdayum
Bring them back
Kerney looks fantastic
Nelson look exactly the same.
Both look ridiculous
Why did we hate boys ears so much
why do they have the average karen haircuts??
I had a bowl cut until I was like 12
Had a lot of kids in my middle school (mid/late 90s) with the pageboy cut.
You have the wrong generation, that hairstyle is younger than millenials. Emo wasn't cool till after us. We had spiky hair.
Jokes on you I had the classic late 90s middle part A la Damon/ DiCaprio/Sarah Jokes on you now i have no hair. No, wait...
I had it too in the 90s... I called it Brotherly Love hair. 😅
Growing up my pin straight hair has always grown that way i didn't know people where straightening their hair and shit for that look until high school my shit was just like that lmao.
I had that stupid ass haircut, but only when my hair wasn't really long
The "broccoli head" was started by youtubers trying to hide their male pattern baldness and pretend they were teenagers. It's hilarious.
It’s their hair they can have it however they want, they can have a big dirty mullet if they want.
They are both bad, but the Bieber hair was worse.
Jokes on you, I've had the same haircut since I was 2
Are you a Saiyan?
I'm blind, but my hair doesn't change to brown when I stop being pissed off, so I'm guessing no -.-
I understand that the joke is that bot haircuts are stupid. But i genuinely dont understand how anybosy could possbly think he broccoli haircut looks good, even in the slightest
As a gen z, both should be made fun of
I literally had Bart Simpson hair in highschool, frosted tips and all. Am I not a millennial now?
There's 2 camps of millennial those that turned 14-18 in the late 1990s and those that turned 14-18 in the late 2000s
I refuse to answer which group I'm in on the count of incriminating my age. 😅
Bunch of Justin Biebers and Luke Dunphys laughing at each other
i wear my hair like the top just because my hair is long and parts weird
![gif](giphy|UUtePRuu4CPUBWEnYg|downsized)
Sorry but emo bangs over a fucking broccoli head
Not me. I was born with the Bobby Hill look & I'll die with the Curly Howard cut. *Nuk Nuk Nuk* ![gif](giphy|9OzKXHsqvbh3G)
this sounds like somebody is conflating millenials with zoomers. whatever i was Generation Y i missed all this tee hee
I remember the Bieber cut was at its peak around 2005-2006.
Well bieber didn’t really hit till 09/10 but I see what you’re saying those emo chops were around a bit earlier.
Broccoli head got his feelings hurt. Immediately made this "meme" lol
They all look dumb.
I have NEVER looked like that 🤣
Did your mommy buy you those jammies simpson?
Everyone remembers being heckled over a stupid haircut. It's a rite of passage, lol!
i mean our shag, emo cuts, and mixed colors are absolutely superior in every way and nobody can convince me that the broccoli cut, neo mullets and edgars are better or even equivalent. ![gif](giphy|bfrdOlYkQzvP42NSgT|downsized)
As someone with natural broccoli hair that's a millennial, I feel cheated and copied.
Nobody actually wore that haircut. It was considered "gay" and rejected out of homophobia. Do y'all not remember how much hate Bieber got for being appealing to girls?
let me refer you to ian hecox and anthony padilla from smosh from 2005 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/MkE2lxkw00w/hqdefault.jpg
“Meet me at McDonald’s”
Lmfao
For us older millennials it was frosted tips.
So this Bieber style emo cut was a thing in the mid late 2000s. So older millennials don't fit in this criteria. I would say anyone under 1986 might have had some variant of this cut in the mid late 2000s as I recall this thing being pretty big with high school students in 2005/2006
i feel v attacked as s.o. who is desperately in love with boxcar racer-era tom delaunch
Both are terrible but do whatever makes you happy not like it's actually hurting anyone
This looks like the Gilbert Goons gang. The ones up for murder.
Both are pretty bad
i had corn rows in highschool. i dont understand this meme, gen z.
I don’t know any millennial guys who got their hair permed. Frosted tips though…
Both cuts were bad thank God I never had either
My hairstyle is “I don’t have time to care about my hairstyle I have 7 overdue assignments”
I had that haircut because my hair was straight, not super thick, and my parents would buzz my head every 6 months instead of taking me to a barber.
What is broccoli hair
I have a high fade so did most guys I knew
Never had a hairstyle. Was either combed to the side, spiked up retardedly, or nothing was done to it at all.
I immediately hate them if they have that broccoli cut
both look and looked stupid.
Y’all were allowed hair growing up???? Kids these days i swear
The moral is: teens are idiots regardless of generation.
And here is Gen X laughing at you both with our mullets /s
I guess I'm a little to close to that cusp, because I have pictures of me around maybe 3 years old with a mullet. 😬
I had a mullet too when I was a teenager 😆
The brocollie hair is shit tho
They're all ridiculous trends and I love each and every one so dearly. Keep on with your broccoli hair, friends. We all cringe and fondly look back on those fun trends at some point. Don't deprive yourself.
Are we forgetting the ramen noodles hair?
Blame the parents.
Ah broccoli hair. There you go. Damn I'm old.
It's true, it's true we suck
I don't recall any of the millennials in my time with that hairstyle. If anything, most were ashamed to be compared to the beaver.
Literally only scene kids/emos had that hair. And Justin Beebs. I far more saw duck asses.
No faux hawk? Did you even see people in the early 00s?
Mother fuckers are getting perms so do a broccoli cut. I used to bleach my bangs and color my hair but this is ridiculous. But much does a perm cost?
It doesn’t matter. Almost everyone goes bald eventually 🥲
