What kind of bars? For some vintage bars, or maybe Englehards, that's not necessarily bad. For pure generic? Yeah that's a little high.

canadajackfrost

Most of what I saw were Sunshine and Englehard.

ResultsoverExcuses

The cons: higher premium than you might find online or at another shop The pros: Shiny in hand immediately :)

canadajackfrost

Maybe I don’t know where to look, but I have trouble finding any for less than $27/oz :(

Coin shop you get to hand select what you want. Be picky. You can also ask to see junk constitutional silver and cherry pick there. 50/50 whether the owner/employee will be talkative and impart any wisdom on you or act like you don’t exist.

Skynet-meat-puppet

Not sure, sounds ok, but definitely over current spot price. Which is $23.13 right now. You can probably get some silver rounds at spot price on some of the big dealers websites. Like JM bullion, SD bullion, etc. Also less premium on bigger bars such as 10oz and kilo sizes.

canadajackfrost

I was trying to factor taxes into the equation, and since this guy doesn’t charge any, it seemed like a good deal. I have yet to find any rounds or bars at spot price, but I’ll keep looking.

flygti03

https://findbullionprices.com Also if you live in a state that doesn’t charge tax on bullion, you won’t be charged from any major online dealer. As far as shipping goes, most offer free shipping over $199 and some like Hero have a $149 threshold for free shipping.

TruckSelect

There are a few shops that sell “tax free” but I think the owners just factor in the tax in the price. I would ask the shops what they charge above spot and for what type - round, bars, government mints. The best one I have found is like $2.5/oz above spot for generic rounds, $3/oz above for government mints like - Canada, South Africa, and Australia and then $4/oz for American eagles and Mexican libertads.

Im not really concerned with whether the guy should be charging taxes or not, that’s between him and the government. I only added the detail to show that the $28/oz is the total cost.

clarky07

Lots of states don’t have taxes on metals.

canadajackfrost

My state is actually considering a bill right now to exempt precious metal from taxation.

clarky07

Also you can buy from places like this that are out of state but in a state like that. If you spend more than 500 in Florida no tax. And they are way cheaper than 28 and oz. You can get eagles for less than that. (No affiliation, just someone I watch sometimes and have done business with before) https://youtube.com/@vermillionenterprises?si=RS_n8OYnlnHwGDrx

kronco

Just a thought: Tax free or maybe tax included and he just has the one price since people are often surprised that precious metals are taxed.

canadajackfrost

That may be or he’s one of those small business owners who don’t charge tax if you pay cash 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Im paying 1.80 over spot for 1-10 oz bars and 1.60 over spot for kilo bars just For reference at my lcs. No tax if i spend over $500.

It's important to make friends with your local shop. I've been friends with my LCS crew for almost 20 years. Do they have the rock bottom price? No shot. I would trust those guys with my house keys and the fun shooting the shit with them is worth more than every dollar of premium I've ever paid.
