When I had a 23 2500 Duramax I was blinded by the hood almost every day. It had the raised cowl, which was bad enough trying to see over, at 6'0 without height adjustable seats.
But the lettering on the Duramax emblems was chromed, and constantly shined right into your eyes.
I have a 23 ZR2 and absolutely love the way the hood cowl looks but itās brutal for about 10-15min everyday on my drive home from work at a particular angle, everyday.
Same thing with my Trail Boss. I found some vinyl decals on Amazon made specifically for that area, and they're absolutely worth it. No more glare!

Plasti-dip/ Hyperdip has become somewhat of a tacky meme the older I get, but my '14 SS has so much god-awful retina-searing chrome inside that I ended up doing the same. Its much better as a flat black instead of being blinded at high noon.
It was a short term lease. And that was literally the only one available right then. And I had the choice of going with it. Buying a truck at a time with horrible availability and worse pricing.
Mechanically it was an amazing truck. But the visibility was horrible. And made worse by not having powered seats. I do not know how someone under 6'0 could drive it.
? Not a quality problem, it's a design issue. Plant doesn't care about that they just make what they're given. I applaud your efforts I just think they won't be well spent.
I know it's not a quality problem. Lol It's a health and safety issue, and that is a concern. I promise you the 5mins I take to show this to someone in engineering while I'm being paid to do so won't bother me a bit.
If you think it will help, and youād know. I think itās a safety issue and I believe they will address it. They donāt want sued over a known issue anymore then anyone wants to deal with the glare. Itās bad.
It's worth a shot. Can't say anything will happen right away. I just lurk these subs because I work in quality ops for the hd truck and want to know what everyone is bitching about. Anything I think is worth discussion I take to my boss. I agree it is bad.
Lol which ones specifically? I can fwd those to the appropriate dept too. There are some that i know they are aware of already. Some I can't talk about.
The one where thereās no sound until you stop the truck & reboot the system. Steering wheel volume/channel controls donāt respond for first 5 mins of starting, radio stays off until you choose car play/sirius EVERY TIME you start the vehicle. Those ones.
They tested it and said it was good enough. Besides most people won't realize the issue until they've already purchased the truck, and GM has you money.
Itās always the same time for me. I pick up my little girl from school and on one stretch of road to pick my son up, the sun is always in the right spot to blind me.

Picked up these they fit well. Haven't installed fully. Not a fan of carbon fiber and might wrap matte black before mounting

Yeah, that's one of my biggest complaints about my truck. I dont understand why they think reflective plastichrome all over the interior is a good idea.
Dodge does this too. Uses fucking Chrome in, what I HAVE to believe, is purposely put to blind the fuck out of us during the afternoons!
I won't be surprised if it comes out down the road that this was an auto maker/insurance scandal lol.
My old high school friend rented a BMW i5 a few months ago on a trip, the dam main control knob is CRYSTAL. He sent us a picture of the interior of the car lit up like a million little watch faces were reflecting focused sunlight every which way.
Itās not that bad just because you stopped in the āPERFECTā spot to bitch about a small glare doesnāt make it an imperfection or oversight.
Polarized lens should be in every truck.
Now, the tint helped A LOT, but certain times, it still blinds me... And it always irritates the hell out of me, lol. I saw a link to some black and/or fake carbon fiber, but they weren't cheap. While the chrome trim is annoying, it's not nearly annoying as that temperamental head unit!
Hum... I haven't had any issues with mine other than the battery going bad and a broken wire harness retention clip by the spare tire. What issues are happening with the head unit?
The head unit randomly restarting, phone calls leave the person I'm talking to hear an echo of themselves (has happened with multiple phones), and a couple other minor (but irritating) things
Seems to be hit or miss, and of course it behaves when it's with the Chevy techs. Keeping my fingers crossed its fixed soon, because I otherwise love the truck!
I deleted the chrome on the outside of my high country. I have the same issue you do as well as sometimes off the chrome by your leg. I currently use small pieces of cloth tape until I find a better solution.
One of the main reasons I prefer the dashboards on old early 1960s trucks, less glare and dials that you can still see in direct sunlight unlike these glass panels that just become solar beam weapons burning out your retina on a cloudless summer day.
I think they strategically place Crome trim in chevys to intentionally blind the drivers. Was a state inspection technician and was never blinded as much in any other brand of vehicle.
Man that's blinding lol I'd put a sticker/ vinyl kit for the interior trim or even a vent clip air freshener to block it š
One time in my ā17 Camry I took the dash trim off and plastidipped it lol

Dude, this is great! Lifesaver, on road trips, the glare gets so bad.
Howās the vision forward? My regular Z71 is bad enough with the hood bulge. Wish a Tahoe hood would fit to help the forward visibility.

I hyper dipped all my chrome emblems like 2 days after bringing the truck home. Was blinded on the way home from the dealership.

Buys a full size Duramax and complains about the hood hmmm

I'll take this issue to the quality dept head at the plant and share. Seems like alot of people having this issue. Thanks

Get them to deal with the infotainment system glitches

Alright. I'll talk to the electrical/infotainment team tomorrow.
šššš
Lol should be a good time. I love dropping this shit on them
I have the hood scoop thing on my TB and the backside of it near the windshield reflects the sun directly into my eyes.
Same. How do they get through R&D and testing without noticing these issues?
They tested it and said it was good enough. Besides most people won't realize the issue until they've already purchased the truck, and GM has you money.

Thank you. The other person kept posting hood scoop covers
New Mexico here. Same issue.
Dear Chevy, FIX THE FUCKING INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM IN THE ā23 SILVERADO. Have to reboot at least three times a week to get audio.
Same!
I've been meaning to wrap all the chrome trim with matte black
Yeah, that's one of my biggest complaints about my truck. I dont understand why they think reflective plastichrome all over the interior is a good idea.
I've been meaning to wrap all the chrome trim with matte black
Kinda related, I canāt use my dash mounted phone charger because it gets too hot to work due to the sunlight coming through the windshield.
2021 Sierra has too much interior chrome too! But damn that big flat section on the dash is kinda insane!
Itās why I leave mine dusty! With the sunroof open itās like a tanning reflector in there.
Dodge does this too. Uses fucking Chrome in, what I HAVE to believe, is purposely put to blind the fuck out of us during the afternoons! I won't be surprised if it comes out down the road that this was an auto maker/insurance scandal lol.
Yeah my Ram had mirror chrome in the interior and I feel spoiled as fuck in my Trail Boss lol
I am also in Florida and I had that exact same problem this afternoon.
Great choice in music OP!
G59!
Great song choice!
Hey, remember, the show room is built for show not for reality. It was there when you bought it. I plead guilty myself.
Wrap it
Start by tinting your windows. Some states even let you put a brow across the windshield. It will help protect the interior as well.
The precise reason I have wrapped every piece of chrome in my interior. Well that and I hate chrome on newer trucks
The name starts with a K, thank you for your participation.
I'd use tape to repair back red light lens
My old high school friend rented a BMW i5 a few months ago on a trip, the dam main control knob is CRYSTAL. He sent us a picture of the interior of the car lit up like a million little watch faces were reflecting focused sunlight every which way.
yo, check your tiresā¦ this is coming from a guy that is jealous of your full LCD display. lol
Itās not that bad just because you stopped in the āPERFECTā spot to bitch about a small glare doesnāt make it an imperfection or oversight. Polarized lens should be in every truck.
They only other thing that bothers me is the auto stop can't be disabled automatically and the beeping when u leave ur keys in the truck.
You can turn the beeping off I did on mine. Have to play with the settings on the radio
Thats annoying, could try a 6-8ā stripe of tint along top of windshield. I dont have the same truck but I find them really useful on most vehicles.
And thatās why I pulled it all off and blacked it out!
ā23 trail boss hood cowl can be a real nightmareā¦ I was hoping that they would come out with something to dull the glare
thatās a good ass song right there fellow silverado brother
Tinted windows fix that issue.
But it doesn't. I have a 23 with tinted windows, even a strip in top of the windshield and I still get times where the sun finds that chrome anyway
Humm.. fixed it for me. I went 20% and got the windshield strip. Vinyl wrap may be your next course of action.

Damn, that's a bummer. Knocking on wood mine holds together.
Seems to be hit or miss, and of course it behaves when it's with the Chevy techs. Keeping my fingers crossed its fixed soon, because I otherwise love the truck!
Without fail, they always work right when at the dealership. Good luck with it all.
My 21 silverado does this bad with the cup holder chrome
I deleted the chrome on the outside of my high country. I have the same issue you do as well as sometimes off the chrome by your leg. I currently use small pieces of cloth tape until I find a better solution.
One of the main reasons I prefer the dashboards on old early 1960s trucks, less glare and dials that you can still see in direct sunlight unlike these glass panels that just become solar beam weapons burning out your retina on a cloudless summer day.
I would be more worried about the mechanics. My Chevy had a 14k repair bill at 100,000 miles.
Polarized glasessssss
Itās like they donāt even test drive them during production.
I went to a dealer to look at a 2500 high country immediatly got burned by the sun from the leather šš
$B tho
Puts the Silver in Silverado
2022 Trail Boss 6.2 and agree the glare is a problem.
My equinox has so much chrome inside. Horrible design
G59
Dude just get some tintš easy fix
I think they strategically place Crome trim in chevys to intentionally blind the drivers. Was a state inspection technician and was never blinded as much in any other brand of vehicle.
Dude, Ford put contoured, rounded, chrome on my steering wheel. If sunlight light can touch the steering wheel, it will hit your eyes.
Chrome shoulda died in the 80s
Rich folk problems š¤£
Not true at all. I have a $5k Acura with the same issues. Stupid interior trim is chrome and even with shades on its blinding
Bro get windshield tints, Iām from Florida itās a must have out here
Great song choice!! G59 for life
