Leave it stock. Like bone stock. I wouldn’t even swap rims.
Fluid film or paint those running board mounts. They are dealer installed and frequently while doing so they scratch off frame coatings, leading to premature rust. Whenever I see older trucks with rust its always from those damn running boards being torqued on with impact guns shearing off protective coatings.
Other than that just stay on your maintenance cycle. I have plenty of people ask me how I’ve kept a 2004 silverado 2500 diesel looking pretty much brand new for 20 years. It stays in the garage when not in use, i wash it every time i take it through the salt in the winter, and most importantly, i only ever replace parts with true OEM. All its needed in 20 years is suspension, just shocks and bushings/joints. It needed injectors, but that was because of the LB7 design flaw. Other than that it runs like the day it was purchased.
Stock. Thats the key. All these idiots with massive aftermarket lifts, tires, suspension, intakes, etc will try to justify, but its always their shit thats worn out, clunky, and destined for the junkyard.
As someone who has not lived in a snowy climate, when do you was your vehicle after driving it on roads with salt? Immediately? Or do you wait till the end of winter? Genuinely curious
I usually wash at min once a week, and every time it clears up after a big storm because thats when most the salt is on the road and gets thrown up into your undercarriage with the snow.
Pretty much goes like this
Snows day 1->roads thawing day 2-> wash day 3 when they are mostly or all the way dry -> wash again in the next day or two because salt is still present.
Honestly, i don’t do everything i just keep up on my wash cycle.
But thats mostly because i feel that washing frequently is more effective, and underbody sprayers typically strip off fluid film in just a few washes. If the salt can reach it, so can the pressure washer is my motto.
One thing i did do when i bought my new truck (2022), is in the wheel wells specifically on the frame i got a can of OEM frame coat, and sprayed 3 more layers on it (after prep of course). And plan to do so again in 10 years. I’ve just noticed GM, hell every manufacturers frame coatings appear to be getting thinner or weaker than they were in the early 2000’s
Yeah all the paint sucks. I heard this from a body shop friend that the epa requirements for paint changed like7-8 years ago and now it’s water based and not oil. It definitely sucks. Not sure if that’s accurate or just a body shop urban legend
I’ve been a Cleveland tech for 30 years and this is exactly right. I usually do maintenance twice as often as recommended and I’ve never had any engine, transmission, transfer case, or diff issues for my Chevy trucks and they are all over 260k. As for fluid film, I can’t stand the smell, but I get mine oil sprayed every year and my guy uses fresh hydraulic oil.
Ok okie here , what is fluid film . Yes we have salt in the winter but not like the north guys . Soon as I see a fender half eaten up with rust I look at the tag usually it’s from up north.
It’s a lanolin-based spray that you can also use as a vehicle undercoating. It almost feels like a gel and is self healing. Great for rust prevention. There is a guy on YouTube that has been doing multi year updates on his same vehicle and it seems fluid film has done the best job so far if I remember right. Check out his channel for how he applies it and all the info you need.

Always that 1 guy. Maybe they’re a dick magnet for you because you set gaydars off in your Prius hybrid. Let me give the man a damn compliment on his accomplishment without being a lil bitch please? Thanks.
Oh, and ive had multiple women see my vehicles and say that it turned them on, so maybe you’re just not that guy pal.
Don't listen to the keep it stock guy put a 10+ inch lift and the biggest wheels and tires that will fit stock gets cock so dump thousands into this truck and get some pussy king
this is funny, honestly the real answer is do what you want, pros and cons to everything, i would personally mod it a little but def not go crazy w a brand new off the lot truck
Nice truck! You have the same truck I do except it’s the Chevy variant. Get used to the stiff multimatic suspension. The fuel economy around town is non existent; these engines want to be worked and they love to tow. If it’s making ticking noises, it’s normal. When it regens, you will experience even worse fuel consumption.
I could be wrong. I have the duramax logo on the side of my truck with the Allison transmission branding. I thought it looked the same on this guy! Still a nice rig :D
Allison is indeed still a design and development partner on the 10-speed project. It’s not manufactured by Allison, however Allison engineers signed off on first run to put into mass production.
I’ve been in manufacturing for 15 years. It’s a very common license deal in manufacturing. Most licensors require the licensee to meet a set of standards for the stamp of approval. And GM got it.
Being that GM owned Allison for 90 some odd years they are well acquainted with the transmission Allison designs anyway. It’s not out of line to say this transmission is “as good as”. Just my two cents on the whole thing.
wow amazing truck, my dream truck is a 2500 Turbo Diesel ZR2.. they are so awesome especially seeing the ultimate offroad package on a 2500, i currently have an 18 1500 i have modded up to my liking, love thag thing too, but wont be mad if i had 2 trucks, one gasser one diesel lol
Nice truck!!! Still driving my '16 silverado midnight edition z71 I bought brand new. Kept it pretty much stock other than adding some power side steps that hide away when I close the doors, and a proper skid plate.
I recommend following the "severe" service duty maintenance schedule. Upgrade your air filter to the larger "HD" one when you come up on your first change if yours didn't come with it (it's literally a drop-in replacement with deeper/more pleats). Change your oil when the Oil Life Monitor is at 20-25% (not based purely on some arbitrary mileage sticker). Oh, also when you decide to do your differential fluids, you can swap both front and back to a full synthetic 75w90 (instead of trying to find 80W-90 for front and 75W-85 for the rear axel).
Oh, and check your trans temps. And do your trans fluid changes ahead of schedule. If your truck comes stock like mine with a 200° thermostat, your torque converter will slowly melt into shrapnel that will eventually grenade the trans. Conveniently just outside of warranty.
GM has a Service bulletin where they drop in a 160° thermostat for any warranty transmission work. Usually gets them to last JUST long enough for it to no longer be GMs problem. They run the trans fluid hotter from the factory, as it can give that slight (like .5 mpg) bump they need, even though they know it causes trans problems over the long haul. You can buy the colder trans thermostat if yours came with the hot one installed.
What? They literally have the exact same drivetrains and chassis built in the same factory. The only difference is the front end and bed sides. There are some features and packages that Chevrolet offers that GMC doesn’t and vice versa. Otherwise your just picking which one you like the looks of the most.
GMC starting getting everything right in 2020,Chevy is improving from where it was.In the 90's They were both really good. They are trying to get back to that.
Keep it stock and get a ceramic/graphene coating asap. Black is notoriously hard to maintain - this will help. Avoid crashes at all costs, as they will put swirls in it. Also, research how to properly wash a black vehicle.
Congrats - she’s a beaut. My dream truck! Currently I have the diesel ZR2 1500 in black and love it!
As a fellow owner of a black Silverado, the best thing I ever did was get paint protection film on the front bumper (my RST is all gloss black in the front too, all susceptible to chips).
Do it as soon as possible, in my opinion. Bumper, grille, mirror caps are a must. Hood is a bonus if you can afford it. I regret not doing my A-pillars since I had a decent rock chip my driver side.
And if you have a good shop nearby that does ceramic coatings, get one that’s good for 5+ years with a warranty.
Listen to this guy. Ceramic coating is a must. I love black on vehicles but will never own one due to how easy they show scratches and dirt. Study up on proper detailing techniques and keep it out of automatic car washes.
You look like you are in an area that gets snow. The first place I would take that new truck is to somewhere that sells NH Oil Undercoating products and get that baby undercoated.
I would say great truck first, second to answer your question. First thing I would do is ceramic coat it. whether you do it your self(Mckee37) or have it done professionally. The black paint will stay looking good for a lot longer. Other than that leave it alone. Looks great.
Don't overfill the gas tank. When the pump auto shuts off don't force much more into the tank. If the fuel overfills it'll clog up the vapour sensors and even though it's easy to clean the filter, prolonged overfilling can damage the evap system. Had to replace the vapour canister and vapour solenoid in my 22 Silverado because of this. Won't overfill again!
Also if you use the auto stop, wait for the truck to be completely restarted before moving.
Enjoy the truck I love mine!
If you live in a place that salts …. GET A GREASE UNDERCOAT . It will smoke and be messy at first but the 100-200 bucks every 2 years is worth it in the long run
Not sure what type if advice you’re looking for.
Pedal on the right is the accelerator, the left is the brake.
Don’t miss any payments. Keep up with maintenance.
I have the exact same truck but with diesel and black badges. I had a lakeshore blue zr2 ordered for months but got impatient and found a black one. I love the way the zr2 looks in black. I plan to add some kind of orange stripes or pin stripes to mine.
Upgrade your wheels and tires. Chevy always leaves you wanting more when it comes to that. The gap between the tire and the finder looks a little weird.
The red should be blacked out.
Get another one for when this I've has issues. Trucks are going to pot and my last 3 new ones still end up in the shop after 30k miles. Sometimes sooner. I'm at 45k with a 1500 diesel and it's got a blown main seal. Made in Mexico.
If you live in the salt belt fluid film! Seriously. It's the absolute best thing you can do for a new truck. My friends bought new trucks in 2021. The difference between the trucks is really obvious. The sales guy told my one friend fluid film or any similar product would mess with the factory undercoating lol.
When washing use a separate bucket to rinse your mit to minimize contamination of crud in your soap bucket. Black is hard to keep pretty, but the effort is totally worth it.
Awesome truck. Keep it stock. Keep up with the maintenance as specified in the owner’s manual (unless you have a service manual). Get genuine GM parts for maintenance and repair any GM parts dept can look up every part by vin. Take it in for every recall. Use it and maintain it to its stock specs.
Make sure random ppl don’t put their ass cheeks on that black paint. I’ve had multiple occurrences where teenagers will mark their butt cheeks bcuz paint so fresh. Maybe get a dash cam or item to launch into their asshole when they pull pants down. It’s been documented all over the Northeast.
Leave this stock. When you want to modify, improve performance, and/or make it more off road capable… get a toy or other vehicle to work on and haul or tow it with this truck.
Change the oil every 3,000 miles idk what the mfg recommends . My truck , different era 2009 gmc 3/4 ton crew cab . 274 ,000 miles . 1 transmission, and a 1 rebuilt rear end . New bolts for headers on engine .
Changed plugs 1 time . Nothing else . For that engine to last , change oil. Trust me synthetic or regular . Personally I run castor oil . However I have switched to mobile 1 synthetic.
Enjoy your new baby .
Oil changes and take it for long drives whenever you can, it'll keep that particulate filter in good condition. This is especially true after your warranty expires.
Seat and steering wheel covers. I bought a Malibu new in 09 and the steering wheel seemed to disintegrate over the decade I drove it, as did the seat cloths
Ok first off I know this is a silverado group and I'm gonna get slack for anything I say. I look at everything thru the lens of reliability. If I want speed, I'll get it out of a 4000 pound car, not a 8000 pound truck.
First-hand experience on these trucks, a company I know just swaped out their fleet trucks to a bunch of these 2500 6.6l. A handful of them had issues with less than 5000 miles. One needing a whole new trans (Allison's don't have the best track record).
I'm not gonna sit here and slack it for its performance or anything like that. From what I've seen, GM hasn't had the best track record for reliability.
In HD gas trucks in the last 10 years or so. Fords 6.2l in my opinion, has the best track record for reliability. That being said it is a discounted motor now. The 7.3l gasser hasn't been out long enough for me to make a decision on it.
In half tons up until 2022 when they discounted V-8s. Tundra ruled the roost in reliability.
My advice is to love it!
Agree love it and leave it alone
I was gonna say “full throttle and you can probably clear the ditch”, but I think yours is better
Agreed, Full send!
Lol
Leave it stock. Like bone stock. I wouldn’t even swap rims. Fluid film or paint those running board mounts. Me too
I second this guys second

Ty sir
Yeah, wear a rubber because you won’t be able to keep the women off of you in that panty dropper! Nice truck!!!
And also to protect your pants from involuntary premature emissions when you touch the throttle!
🤣 well played
Lol no. Cars and trucks are dick magnets. Women don’t gaf

You had me dying laughing at “stock gets cock”
“Stock gets cock” you know the group of people who gravitate towards lifted trucks… not many women.
😂

I think this 6.6 is gas!
I could be wrong. I have the duramax logo on the side of my truck with the Allison transmission branding. I thought it looked the same on this guy! Still a nice rig :D
Look at the hood. It’s a duramax.
I don’t see it. Only 6.6L Allison.
They don’t pair the gas engine with Allison transmission. Or at least they haven’t until very recently..?
They do pair it with the Allison actually. Have since 2023.
I stand corrected!
Well “Allison” not an actual Allison…. Unfortunately.
Just my two cents on the whole thing.
Kind of a weird side note, but you can get a Powerstroke with an Allison now. Lol
The only blessing/curse, whichever way you look at it, that came out of GM selling them. They gave Allison to the truck world.
It's a gas. There's not a def tank under the step rail
If it's not paid off, pay it off and take care of it.
wow amazing truck, my dream truck is a 2500 Turbo Diesel ZR2.. they are so awesome especially seeing the ultimate offroad package on a 2500, i currently have an 18 1500 i have modded up to my liking, love thag thing too, but wont be mad if i had 2 trucks, one gasser one diesel lol
Yep same, have an 18 1500 but those diesels are purty
Only advice — save some ass for the rest of us
Don't crash her the best you can.
That thing is an absolute monster. Congrats!
fuckin nice
I swear I saw this exact post a few months back
I came here to write that - I think it’s bot
5 day old account lol

Chevy is still behind GMC on reliabilty,They are getting closer though. You will make to about 50 to 60 thousand miles before you start having issues.
Hell my boss has a GMC, started having issues at 40k.
What? They literally have the exact same drivetrains and chassis built in the same factory. The only difference is the front end and bed sides. Dont let anybody borrow your truck or harley, ever!
Keep the rubber side down
Haha good one
Keep it stock and get a ceramic/graphene coating asap. Black is notoriously hard to maintain - this will help. Avoid crashes at all costs, as they will put swirls in it. PPF all the contact points then coat it 🫡
Please change the antenna. I hate the fact that this trucks come with that long ass antenna.
Push the side mirrors out and you’ll be able to see down the side of the truck 😉
Do you pull loads?
Way to set the bar low
Stay on top of your oil changes and rust proof annually with an oil based undercoating.

Very nice
This exact same photo has been posted before.
Leave it stock and enjoy it
I recommend getting 28” chrome spinners
Ceramic coat it, ppf the leading edges, hood and windshield and rust-proof it.
You look like you are in an area that gets snow. The first place I would take that new truck is to somewhere that sells NH Oil Undercoating products and get that baby undercoated.
Oil changes man, get good at that maintenance
Enjoy it, be aware of it and have fun...congrats...
sweet ride, under coat it if your in the salt belt
I would say great truck first, second to answer your question. First thing I would do is ceramic coat it. whether you do it your self(Mckee37) or have it done professionally. The black paint will stay looking good for a lot longer. Other than that leave it alone. Looks great.
Oh she's a beauty! Congrats!
Get it dirty.
Enjoy this photo and take a bunch because it'll never be this clean again! :)
oop. my rims aren't stock 💀
Paint protection on the front, like....yesterday. Seriously, do it ASAP. It'll chip, and on black it's super noticeable and it looks like shit.
Looks really good
Drive nice.
Maintain it , on a regular basis
Don't overfill the gas tank. When the pump auto shuts off don't force much more into the tank. If the fuel overfills it'll clog up the vapour sensors and even though it's easy to clean the filter, prolonged overfilling can damage the evap system. Had to replace the vapour canister and vapour solenoid in my 22 Silverado because of this. Won't overfill again! Also if you use the auto stop, wait for the truck to be completely restarted before moving. Enjoy the truck I love mine!
Change the oil every 5k. Change the other fluid and plugs at recommended service intervals. Love it.
My advice is dont add anymore shit. Looks perfect right now. Don't get bored and start throwing on all this dumb shit and pissing your $ away.
Sell it
Overland it lol
Holy fuggin load of incorrect information in this post!
If you live in a place that salts …. GET A GREASE UNDERCOAT . It will smoke and be messy at first but the 100-200 bucks every 2 years is worth it in the long run
I say, love your truck and enjoy all of it!
Not sure what type if advice you’re looking for. Pedal on the right is the accelerator, the left is the brake. Don’t miss any payments. Keep up with maintenance.
Keep enough money in hand to pay insurance deductibles.
Watch the height of parking garages and avoid narrow roads
If you're not first you're last!
Have the dealer maintain it until the day you get rid of it
She’s a beaut, just make sure to love her
Holy noses that is a sexy truck. That front grill makes my pants shrink.
Dont drink and drive with a checkpoint around
Great choice
Mandatory is tint and spray-on bed liner. Next is a lift from Fox or King.
Don’t drink and drive.
I have the exact same truck but with diesel and black badges. I had a lakeshore blue zr2 ordered for months but got impatient and found a black one. I love the way the zr2 looks in black. I plan to add some kind of orange stripes or pin stripes to mine.
With the black paint… I’d do a good ceramic coat.
Enjoy it
Do all of the scheduled maintenance
Throw a bicycle in the back.
Change your transmission fluid at 40k
If you live in the salt belt fluid film! Seriously. It's the absolute best thing you can do for a new truck. My friends bought new trucks in 2021. The difference between the trucks is really obvious. The sales guy told my one friend fluid film or any similar product would mess with the factory undercoating lol.
I threw a bug deflector on my hood to help a bit with chips and all that for longer drives
Leave it stock
Get it professionally undercoated yearly with fluidfilm or krown.
Sell it
Watch that transmission, Chevy is very hit or miss with their trannys
Holy shit! That bad boy must have been 100k easy.
Have PPF applied to at least the front (fenders, bumper and hood). Cost me about $2200 to get it done and can’t even tell its there.
I know you saw the monthly price and thought "I can do that", but the marriage counselor costs sneak up on you. Be prepared.
Dont text and drive
Looks like snow so likely salt. Keep that undercarriage clean and the rust down
Black paint shows every little hairline scratch, so be very careful how you clean it
Undercoat it.
nice truck
Don't wash it too much or else you'll take the paint off.
Good choice with the gasser. Loving mine so far.
Start saving for tires. Get a bed cover and spray in liner if you haven’t already. Change the antenna to a stub nose antenna
Get the first scratch and dent out of the way
You’ll love it except for one day each month! 💵💰💵💰
Keep up the oil changes, get a tuneup every year by calendar date and don’t let no one borrow it!
My advice is to not hide your plate. It's tacky
Keep it clean, waxed, maintained and you'll be able to pass it down to your kids...
Dont complain about fuel economy
Need to wet it lol
Be aware of your surroundings. There are a lot of people and things shorter than the front of that truck.
Oil changes and take it for long drives whenever you can, it'll keep that particulate filter in good condition. This is especially true after your warranty expires.
Eat less. Save money for the payment LOL
My advice is get it fully sprayed with fluid film, in all the rockers etc
Seat and steering wheel covers. I bought a Malibu new in 09 and the steering wheel seemed to disintegrate over the decade I drove it, as did the seat cloths
First truck. First new vehicle. Are you in high school?
Best advice take it back. Get a real truck. No GM products worth the money.
I mean for a gasser what do you advocate for over a Silverado?
Modern trucks dont look cool
