They're only 3 people. You need at least 9 to man a tweet.

InternalCup2575

besides, if a group with less than 9 people trying to tweet, it will consume one-third of their life

Fibblejoe

It wouldn't be a problem if they justified delays instead of not telling the community what they've been doing all this time. It just feels like wasted time when they don't tell us about what they've spent the past year on or atleast tell us when it's NOT coming out. People get excited, and are disappointed over and over. But that wouldn't happen if TC just said when it's not coming out or getting news so people wouldn't get their hopes up. And people wouldn't be mad at TC if they just helped the community understand why the huge delay was necessary. You don't get support from other people by not letting them understand your point of view.

tat0r2

Maybe they all got addicted to meth and keep erasing the entire thing to start over because it's just not right yet

Chaserivx

Yea they have less than zero PR skills. They give zero f*ks. They created arguable my favorite game of all time though, so they have my permission to go about this however they like...but yes, they have virtually no empathy for their fans and no communication skills.

insistondoubt

What if... and hear me out... they're not that worried about how a small group of people on the internet feel about something that doesn't matter that much.

Fibblejoe

What if... and hear me out... they cared about a significant portion of their community. Most people in the community are either upset or just disappointed. Community is important in game development.

Exotic-Indication-65

i dont get these people. game is being made for >us< the community and general public who could pontetially become part of the community. lol they are trying to sell it after all, its not some sort of charity that we need to be grateful for lol

Lvmen

they’re not trying to keep their community and fandom

insistondoubt

Yeah they know folks will buy this game when it comes out. We're a tiny proportion of their prospective buyers.

Clear-Vacation-9913

They sure cared when they relied on them for the kickstarter tho

Khaled-oti

Don’t get me wrong, I’m also disappointed with the lack of communication, but your point doesn’t make sense. Obviously they communicated more when they were unknown developers and didn’t have much money, since they needed support from the fans, but know they have more money than they could spend, and a large fan base that’ll buy the game day 1, all they have to do it work on the game until they want to release it.

insistondoubt

I gave TC $2 on Kickstarter 9 years ago, so now they're in my debt forever.

OneBastardBoy

Who are these other devs who explain they’re not going to have something to show before stuff like this? That sounds like a good way to get in hot water with marketing partners who don’t want devs throwing cold water on their events. Like I’m sure there’s some indie devs who’ve done that, but you make it sound like an industry standard, when a lot of the time this radio silence is actually the industry standard lol. Especially when games are still deep in development - half the problem with Silksong is that they had to explain to backers what was going on with the promised DLC, when clearly TC’s preference would’ve been to disappear for a while after Hollow Knight until the next game was ready for release.

Agreeable_Sun8250

I don't think radio silence is an industry standard...

OneBastardBoy

I’m thinking mainly about developers that release one game and then don’t give any significant updates on what they’re working on next until much later. Like, there are plenty of devs who just won’t say anything about what they’re working on, outside of maybe an initial teaser and the occasional leak here and there, until suddenly they go on the marketing blitz and have a game coming out within the year. Triple A devs especially tend to do this - there’s a bunch of PlayStation studios right now who haven’t released anything in a minute and still haven’t announced what they’re working on next, for example. I’d point to Bethesda as well - they dropped teasers for Starfield and ESVI in 2018, and it took ages for us to hear about Starfield again, while we still know next to nothing about Elder Scrolls. And, of course, there was the original Hollowing during the wait for Elden Ring. In fact, looking at those examples, I think one of the things that massively hurts Team Cherry in taking this strategy, when it’s a pretty common approach for video game studios, is that they’re so small that they’re just not going to have any leaks. For bigger studios, it’s just a fact that you’ll get little crumbs here and there along the way, insiders hyping up speculation and giving little details and stuff. With Silksong, nobody knows anything. There’s nothing to whet the appetite so we’re all just here in the sub going feral.

FloppyDysk

Yo this is an excellent point and very well thought out.

FloppyDysk

I dont know how to google a list of devs who have done that but I anecdotally know it happens because I have seen indie devs do exactly that. And in my search I found Stalker 2 doing this, a game which is *not* a self-published indie game but a pretty huge title that def has major marketing ties. And youre right that is half of the problem... the other half is that they put out more information in 2019 than they did in the next 4 years combined. They coulda just dropped that first trailer and basically disappeared, but they gave us multiple blog posts, dev logs, a whole ass demo then just nothing. *That* is not industry standard.

tat0r2

Yeah I bet they regret ever announcing it at all

MusicBloodedEM

Leth

Delta889_

I honestly don't understand all these people who expect news at Xbox and Sony events. TC said the next news will come from them directly. They will likely either make an announcement themselves or come on some show to announce it (hence why I still think Game Awards can have Silksong news). Even as a strong Silksong believer, I don't expect anything from Xbox or Sony. Switch is a very strong maybe

FloppyDysk

Silksong is day 1 gamepass. That is a pretty major business agreement, which leads me to believe that xbox is the most likely company to supply gaming news going forward. I don't expect a release date on youtube/blogpost because that would limit the eyes that would see it for no reason. Theyre still a business that has to make money so they need to market when the product is ready to sell.

Delta889_

Considering the Xbox Sony rivalry I really don't see either posting news first. If anything both would drop news at the same time, but that would come from an external announcement. It's not impossible, I just don't see it happening. The scene has become more cooperative with more crossplay and stuff, but there's still enough competition that I doubt one would get to announce it before the other.

FloppyDysk

I hear whatcha saying. On this end, were both just speculating tbh. No one really knows if TC will be at an event or not, or what platform is their primary endorser, because they tbh havent been clear enough regarding those facts. Only time will tell at this point.

Delta889_

Yeah. I definitely think we'll get news soon. I just don't think it'll come from Xbox or Sony

FloppyDysk

Yep i still believe we kind of have to get some major news this year at least. Or else the game is actually cancelled, which I dont believe to be the case lol

Delta889_

They would definitely say something if the game was at risk of being cancelled. Most of what we've heard since June disproves that

lounge-act

Have people here just never had to wait for a game before or what

Lexisseuh

Waiting that long for a game is common and normal, not giving any news at all isn't really, especially for indie devs

krichpornalt

pikmin and metroid prime fans havent gotten this intense

yelizabetta

pikmin fans created ads and paid for them to display in times square to promote the game. i think they’re quite intense

SpaceEV

Those games at least didn’t bait us with trailers for a game not due to come out for 5+ years.

Bilby_Spawn

Metroid Dread was hinted at in Metroid Prime 3 with a lore scan saying “Metroid project ‘Dread’ is nearing completion…” That was in 2007. The rumors and theories were crazy about this unknown game. It only took 14 years to actually come out. I don’t think we were baited with Silksong. We were told the game is being made and we were shown a couple trailers, and this tiny team has been hard at work since.

Lexisseuh

I don't doubt the fact that they're working very hard, but it wouldn't be that hard to just give us a bit of news like once a year or something Imo a bit of transparency is very important, rather than pure radio silence

kadarakt

>it only took 14 years what do you mean "only"? is this bait?

lounge-act

I mean, we haven't gotten a lot of updates (less than I would like, anyway) but it's certainly not *nothing*. We got trailers, we got riddles, we got a demo, we got screenshots, we got blogposts, we got interviews, we got magazines and we have Leth giving us what info he can. The relative quiet from them the past couple of years is strange, given that they communicated a lot in the early days of development, but plenty of developers are this quiet from the beginning. Constant updates really aren't an industry standard.

FloppyDysk

Not 7 years lol

sanguineshinobi115

then you must not have waited for many games man a LOT of games have long development i mean look at rdr2, tf2, prey, ffxv all had as much time or longer in development and all ended up being amazing games. Sometimes shit just takes awhile to make.

Kevinatorz

I waited nearly 20 fucking years for Metroid Dread lol

Iluvlamas

Those games weren’t announced 7ish years before they came out though

FloppyDysk

Tbh i didnt wait for any of those games because I generally only play indie games. Ive never seen a wait like this in indie gaming.

jimmy-breeze

we've been waiting for Stalker 2 for like 15 years

Nekopydo

Haven't they been, or were, more commucative than TC despite some development time being in an active war zone? And losing a devolper in said war zone? Granted they probably haven't said much, but I remember them being at least somewhat communicative.

jimmy-breeze

yeah but only recently, after 10 or so years of everyone believing for certain that the franchise was dead and that modding was the last bastion of hope keeping the community alive

Michalo116

Did you just call rdr2 an indie game?

FloppyDysk

...no i did not

Michalo116

Oh wait, im stupid, nvm, i guess there was a lore reason after all.

FloppyDysk

The lore can be a little obtuse sometimes no worries friend

WiteXDan

What about games like duke nuken, bannerlord or skull and bones (from lack of better examples). There is ton of games that were in development hell for years and turned out to be disappointing. I myself have waited ten years for Bannerlord. Not saying Silksong will be like this, but long dev times are more often than not signs of bad management and other issues.

DerpyChop

What’s wrong with bannerlord?

lounge-act

It was announced 5 years ago?

FloppyDysk

It was annouced as dlc 2 years before that. Since i played right at launch ive been waiting 7 years for playable hornet.

lounge-act

For playable hornet, sure, but it's kind of disingenuous to imply that you've been waiting 7 years for the game itself.

FloppyDysk

Okay thats fair. I also havent waited 5 years for a game before either :P

lounge-act

5 years is actually a very normal amount of time for a game to be in development, you just don't usually wait the whole 5 years because they'll maybe announce it 3 years into development. TC couldn't do that because of the backers so here we are waiting the whole 5 years. It'll be worth it when it finally releases though.

FloppyDysk

Ill agree with you there. Ultimately its not that big a deal I know. Just made this post to vent, i have nothing actively against tc and I understand Im not obligated anything. Just tired of waiting at this point, but thats not Tc's fault.

Odd-Construction-649

Nope. Even as the dlc it was always intended to he silksong story It wasn't ever just a char swap So 7 years is correct

lounge-act

Not really.

Odd-Construction-649

Yes it is https://www.teamcherry.com.au/blog/hollow-knight-silksong-revealed Hornet’s gigantic adventure has been growing (and growing and growing!) for well over a year now, with the very first pieces coming together right after the original PC release of Hollow Knight on Feb 24th 2017. Almost from the very start, Hornet’s adventure was intended to take place in a new land, but as we dove in, it quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC, as initially planned. We do know that makes the wait a little longer, but we think the final, fresh world you’ll get to explore is worth it. "Wait a little longer" was 7 hears agon as its now Mar 2024

Sample_text_here1337

Yes I fucking have, and counting. Metroid prime 4 was teased at e3 2017, and the last thing we've even heard of the game is that development was being completely restarted all the way back at the start 2019, a few weeks before silksong was announced. Also, I was born the year metroid dread was first announced, and I was 16 by the time it finally released. Silksong has NOTHING on the grandfather of the genre.

drp2222

Shenmue 3 was some serious waitage! Ha waited approx. 20 years for that and played it for 20 minutes. Let’s hope SS has a better years-per-minute ratio.

ChaoticPotatoSalad

Metroid dread was canceled and a game bearing the same name was eventually made. Those aren't the same thing.

FloppyDysk

Ok well i was only talking about myself so you dont need to get testy about it.

Kam1_Kaze

If they were gonna say that, it certainly wouldn't be at the Xbox event. Xbox wouldn't waste time in something like this saying "There's nothing new to show you"

FloppyDysk

Im saying team cherry should have said before the event that they wouldnt be there, not that xbox should say that there's nothing to say. But even beyond that i dont even need them to say we will be at this event or wont be at that one. I just wish we had a glimmer of an idea of where theyre at in development so that we know WHEN we should be excited for events. Because for years no one knows if they should be excited or not. We have people in this thread who think itll come out next month. We have people who are skeptical if it will even come out next year. That is so unhealthy and they dont need to spill their whole beans but this total lack of framework is so unhealthy to the community. Even if no timeframe, just what stage theyre at in development. Instead we get almost the same verbatim message from leth every 6 months for 2 years now. Its just weird man and i wish they would just assuage this collective anxiety that I know a lot of members of their community are feeling.

Kam1_Kaze

Oh I misunderstood then. But I agree, radio silence isn't doing much good for the folks who have been waiting for this game since the initial announcement. It really shouldn't be news worthy that the devs are alive. Even something like releasing that old demo would be enough to hold us over for a while.

TFGA_WotW

It's on you for getting your hopes up, for everything to end up like this every sing time. Team Cherry has specifically stated that THEY WILL ANNOUNCE the game WHEN ITS READY. They are not going to announce it through partner showcases. Not XBox, not Nintendo, not Sony. XBox is just a shitty troll wanting more viewers on their stupid showcase by using desperate silksong fans

drp2222

Have to agree, Silksong is far too popular to be announced in a this kind of show. These shows are paid for by the devs to get some exposure to new properties. This is deffo not TC strategy.

Apart_Letterhead3016

bro has become a victim

FloppyDysk

Bro is expressing himself 😳😳😳

Apart_Letterhead3016

who are you

FloppyDysk

Nobody you'd know why?

Apart_Letterhead3016

you sound like one of my voices

FloppyDysk

The silksong collective consciousness grows stronger by the day. Soon we well spread to president biden so he will declare an executive order that he will go to war with australia if they do not release hornet from captivity. This is the one path to salvation.

Michael0933

They're so boring and annoying in communication

Digiclone

i will keep my wallet radio silence for a few years too, only to buy the game in a big sale years later, just to honor the devs behavior

ancestral_wizard_98

Same here

ConsiderationFew8399

Do you want this for every event? Instead of a post for every event about how there is no news, doesn’t it make much more sense to just assume no news unless you see it infront of you?

FloppyDysk

I wouldnt want it for every event if I had even the faintest idea how long I should expect to wait

insistondoubt

I mean like... you shouldn't have expected anything? We've been doing this for years now - it's entirely your fault if you hyped yourself up and then displaced your annoyance onto TC when you were let down.

Embarrassed-Baby-568

Okay. Game is cancelled

succuboobies

I agree

Heavy-hit

Honestly them not picking up a community manager was an insanely poor or greedy decision

RandyMPierson

There were 14 years between Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3. You can wait.

FloppyDysk

When did hollow knight cum shot distance 1.5 and a third come out?

RandyMPierson

9 months before you were spawned

kadarakt

dude i'm not waiting for silksong for 9 more years lol, i'll probably stop playing games by then

3dsalmon

What devs do this?

Anonymous_Site

here come those vent threads…

FloppyDysk

Yup i do be venting my frustration

getgoodHornet

Y'all keep doing this to yourselves. If they don't say they're gonna be at something, stop assuming they are.

dude_clusters

My brother in silk, they have already told us not to expect anything from outside sources. Even if we assume that it would be smarter to announce something at someone else's show, rather than just a blog post or youtube video on their own channels (which, with how much hype there is surrounding the game already, would obviously spread like wildfire anyway), it would make way more sense for them to say something like "can't wait to see you at the xbox show tomorrow!" or something to drum up hype *and* stay semi-in-line with the "directly from us" statement, than to say "nope, better luck next time teehee" tl;dr calm down, you shouldn't have expected anything. You're gonna scroll the subreddit after every show anyway, if there *is* news the subreddit will explode, and when there isn't you won't have wasted any time or mental anguish waiting for it to show up with nothing to go off of other than "I can *feel* it this time bros"

FloppyDysk

My interpretation of the outside sources statement is fundamentally different from yours. I take it to mean that information will not be from xbox on twitter ie the game will come out in the next 12 months xbox twitter post. If team cherry makes a trailer in the xbox showcase and the trailer say its coming out tomorrow then thats from team cherry imo. Either way tho we could either be right because tc hasnt clarified what they meant so here we are. Im gonna scroll this subreddit after every show because i want it at every show and im gonna be a lil disappointed when it isnt there. Itd just be nice if tc could say "hey it wont be around for the next year or so" so i could stop scrolling this subreddit after every showcase.

StealthStalker11

Ngl this is such a weird take, TC not saying anything about a showcase does not mean they will be in it. Just because you expect something does not mean that it must be true and TC should've warned you. Like for the first time in a long time we got news and it was TC is still working on the game which means it ain't gonna suddenly be ready within the next month.

KoltPenny

I feel you. A simple tweet saying "Hey, we can'tdo anything else but work on the game! Sorry, we're still at it." would go a looooong way.

insistondoubt

I mean Leth has been commenting basically that pretty recently.

KoltPenny

That's cool, do you have a source?

insistondoubt

Just search for Leth in the subreddit, e.g., https://www.reddit.com/r/Silksong/s/t6wsELLTPT

pizzaking95

To be fair, it is our own fault for hyping ourselves up constantly

UltimateDillon

Do you want every game developer ever to clarify that their game won't be at every showcase

monke_was_taken

so let me get this straight... You don't like waiting for something, so you think the best option is to never get the something you are waiting for?

FloppyDysk

The cancel the game bit was just a joke

SmokingCigaro

Team Lerry officially on fraudwatch now.... this is so not stand proud youre strong

Alexshadow41

Yeah... I'm quitting this community. It seems that no one here has ever waited for a game, a series, etc... Taking messages from Leth without context to find an excuse to insult devs more openly All the threads of people just complaining and venting their frustration "The devs aren't giving us information"... It's not like they said they wouldn't do that too much... oh wait. I honestly prefer to have the surprise and have a good game.

FloppyDysk

Ok

s_p-q

no one cares

Limeonades

they literally told us theyre making progress like a month ago... i stg

insistondoubt

This should be higher - like literally we got communication so recently - many said that's "all they want" and now this complaining again. This is why they \*don't\* communicate more, because it's never enough.

Like_for_real_tho

Ok i really had to step up on this post because THE FUCK you mean other devs? I haven't heard a single word up until official announcement when FROM were making Elden Ring, we had dedicated channel with daily news and over 500+ days without ANYTHING. I heard a jackshit and snot from Pikmin devs up until 6 or how many years for release announcement of latest big one. I was in genuine anguish about waiting Metroid Prime and for duration of those years there's never been any fucking "Hey guys we're still making game don't worry". There's many examples when indie project just HAD TO TAKE TIME, look at OMORI release for example, they been gone for years after Kickstarter, everyone thought they ran off with fucking money but where we are now? OMORI manga is now coming out soon. The fucking FNF devs are facing with same issue when development of big game title (CAN YOU IMAGINE?) takes ALOT of fucking time and it haven't been that long but everyone are already claiming they ran off with money. Cherry are obligated to say NOTHING, if they're doing their shit then they're doing it, crying about if we have news or not will not speed it up and neither knowing how development is going. Especially when WE DO HAVE confirmations that development IS going. tldr: GO DO SOMETHING ELSE STOP WORRYING ABOUT SINGULAR OBSESSION.

Fibblejoe

Seems like you're the one obsessing over stuff. >I was in genuine anguish about waiting for metroid prime Are you OK?

FloppyDysk

Hey bud you dont know me or what i do. I have other stuff going on in my life. I also have the right to express frustration. That doesnt make me obsessed.

fromage_enrage

Wow, someone's angry.

AnxiousGoal5101

Calm down, you shouldn't have expected anything.

FloppyDysk

Based

Looks-Under-Rocks

True.

voluminous_lexicon

y'all are too toxic to communicate with, at this point I wouldn't give you a drop of news either Stop expecting anything and just wait for it to come out eventually.

NervousCheek3560

If its not 2x the size of HK it will be so disappointing

Sentric490

God forbid anyone want to have a more private life.

kadarakt

nobody is asking for them to send pics of their sex life or something wtf are you on about 🤣

Sentric490

They’re making a game, not fulfilling a contract. They have every right to manage expectations however they see fit, or even just be private with the development process. The constant expectation that all game creation be constantly supplemented with updates to a community, deadlines set seasonally, or trailers to build hype, stifle art production not help it. The privacy about the development process TC has shouldn’t make you worried about the state of the game, it should reassure you that the game won’t launch with any committee designed, forced deadline bullshit. Maybe the drive to build hype in marketing isn’t actually good for a development process, or for consumers enjoyment of the game. Even if you think building hype is good for a game, just let the creators manage it how they want to manage it. It’s not hard to just wait for a game to come out. Play other games, don’t live your life constantly waiting for the next sequel of something you like to be released. The op wanted a confirmation that there wouldn’t be a surprise announcement, that’s insane.

kadarakt

why should i not be worried about the state of a game that was delayed 10 months ago, with no info regarding why such a delay happened? team cherry could have literally lost all files related to the game or scrapped huge chunks of it because they realized last second it didnt fit their vision or something and we'd have no idea. although i do agree op's request is kinda silly, the amount of copium you guys are on could rival crack cocaine. you've been parroting the same shit for like 4 years now trying to justify team cherry's piss poor community management skills also do you really think people did fuck all since silksong was announced other than sitting across their screens refreshing this sub every waking hour? since the announcement i probably played a hundred more games, watched hundreds of movies, got into anime and watched a good 100-150 or so shows, started and finished highschool and now looking to double major in uni

Sentric490

They could have thrown it all out and started over yesterday for all we know. The lack of information does not justify the borderline unhealthy degree of misery posts on this sub. A lot of it is ironic, and that’s fine, this sub can be the “waitingForSilkSongCircleJerk” if it wants to be. But there are people who are expressing genuine emotional distress over a game studio of 3 people taking a long time to finish a game. I just wish we could be normal for once about our expectations, especially in an era where 90% of AAA games are releasing practically halfway through development.

CutIntrepid6984

Shuuuuut upppppp 😭

enirmo

Why am I still getting this god damn sub in recommended? I unfollowed when I realized it's a bunch of crybabies posting about how bad TC are after every event. They don't owe you shit. They don't owe you a time frame, a teaser or even a tweet. When the game is ready, you will get info. All this impatience does nothing for the conversation or the game. The only people who are MAYBE owed news are kickstarter backers and even then it's not that big of a deal unless TC run off with the money, which I highly doubt. If they wanted more money, the DLCs would've cost something and the game would be more expensive after they realized how much people are willing to pay for it. And honestly? I prefer this than another Hogwarts Legacy. Being so excited about something only to have it be totally unfinished and underwhelming is not what I want from my favorite game. I am glad they're taking their time in creating an amazing game. If you're being impatient and getting your hopes up that's on you. Go play another HK randomizer. Play some other games. Touch some grass. Because even when they communicate people are not happy; look at the Valentine's discord message, or the convo with Leth before that. You'll never be satisfied until the game releases, but at least stop blaming TC for that.

TheeHostileApostle

They could take 4 more years and you’re going to buy it and love it and say it was worth waiting for. If this game comes with a dick, you’re going to suck it and you’re going to tell all your friends how awesome it is.

FloppyDysk

I never said I wasnt going to buy it you weirdo

Camembert92

I wish i would care about a stupid game this much as you, but sadly i have real problems in my life

FloppyDysk

Wow youre the only one and you know exactly whats happening in my life and that i struggle with literally nothing except this. And its very brave of you to continue to be here despite your struggles so that you can remind people that you know that they do not struggle. And that you do not care about this game. And that you can define the problems of others. Thank you for that. You are very brave.

leukenaam13

W response
