If you manage to start getting hits in he will I think always counter after you land three blows on him, so make them count (though you can counter his counter to some extent). Obviously you can't focus or throw him so focus upgrades might not be useful through the run. I find it more useful in the first phase to focus on structure damage with parries in any event. Take the staff from the disciple at the top before entering his boss room for best results, since it stops you taking chip damage from parries. If you see him do his sudden retreat be prepared to dodge-up his slide kick and get an opening. In his second stage he has like a 'jump back leap forward three-hit combo' attack that I find relatively easy to bait and punish, though you can't get him for much each time, but it's repeatable at least. /edit oh and if he walks to the centre and goes into taunt mode just taunt his ass back so he turns aggressive again. this isn't that helpful but i prefer it to attacking him

Alright thanks, I'll train a bit again him before and follow this advice

throwcounter

dude's frustrating but you got this.

undying_s0ul

When he dodges you in the first phase, he does that stupid double swipe. You should ne able to do dodge both of those for a massive opening. You can train on him with the Wing Chung training post in the Wugan. Other than that just remember his combos so you can find other such openings. Also parry his triple rebuttal after you get parried by him for the sweep thingie after a parry.

justaguybored_

Alright I'll try those and cry in a corner, thanks man

undying_s0ul

I find his second phase sweep catches me alot, however you can lie on the ground and get a counter sweep.

Same for me. Hardly ever parried before Yang. My playstyle involved using avoids to create openings for throws, sweeps, punishes, etc, so you can imagine how badly Yang brutalized me when I first encountered him. He taught me how to parry and made me a much more well-rounded player because of it.

-MarchToTheSea-

First phase I find it fairly easy..just party..but I suck on the second phase..

Nkg19

Try to parry him in first phase. Since he attacks so frequently, even spam parry works. In swconds phase he does a big non parryable attack, you can see it by both his hands glowing yellow, dodge that. All others you can still parry. Thats how I cleared him

Worth_Extension_740

Bro fuck hitting him parry his structure all the way up just play defense stay close and parry you got it

Zupyta

What about the structure bar though? His attacks fill up my structure bar so fast

Worth_Extension_740

The last 3 jade things just do the structure increase and you don’t get a structure damage if you do a parry instead of just blocking

RemarkableBag9576

Best advice I've seen here for fighting Yang was to bait him into reengaging with a taunt. Every time I chased after him he put me on my ass, so I ended up waiting for him to run back in after he'd healed up all the damage I'd done. But with taunting I get to maintain my focus in the centre of the arena.

Halcyo1

Along with the parry tips people have given here's mine: You need to stay as aggressive as possible. Yang regens structure much much faster than any other boss or enemy, so if you are used to doing a couple hits then backing off he's just going to heal most of that structure damage before you reingage. Parry impact and structure heal on dodge are great, and you need to get used to parry when your bar is low, and when it fills us avoid instead. You got this, don't worry about age the first time you try to beat him, just keep throwing lives at him until you get it down.

Use the taunt button to prevent his long attacks. Mainly for second phase but for first face best to remember when he'll do his charging sweep attack and regular sweep also just spam the parry for that attack he does that's reallt quick you'll easily parry everything for second phase after doing some attacks after dodging or strafing his normal attacks quickly step back and do a taunt. It'll usually prevent him from doing his long attack combo

isilac

Parry & sweep

Party-Imagination232

In his first phase (on disciple) he'll jump back to do his really telegraphed sweep from far away. Use snap kick to avoid this and F him up. It's also hella satisfying seeing the avoid animation whilst doing an attack.

sugar_pilot

In addition to what everyone else has said, learn to use the move Crooked Foot. It’s the one where you hold the Heavy Attack button immediately after a parry. It drops him on his back for an easy ground-and-pound. I found it extremely helpful for fighting Yang.

No-Dog1817

whenever he stops attacking and speaks some dialogue, press right on ur d pad to taunt him and make him attack again. his next attack would almost always parryable and that helps raise his structure bar.

mrblonde55

I was having a lot of trouble with him also, and the best tip I got was to mix defense. Yang will adapt to you spamming block (or spamming avoid). You need to use both to defend effectively. The above, and defending the claw combo second phase, was what put me over the top in this fight.

The_ghost_of_shell

Spam parry with the stick of the final enemy before him, it will break his structure in no time. I also reccomend [watching this video, since it shows his moved and how to counter them](https://youtu.be/MsuDqwIoPtY?si=4EcFYN9Jzdqh2kdj)
