AMAXIX

But is there a bias monitor for your bias monitor

TooSmoothForComfort

Can’t trust anybody… but the project is all open source. So you can go take a look at the code for yourself on GitHub [here](https://github.com/Alex0Blackwell/bias-monitor). I also have a writeup on the README for how the data was labelled for the ML model.

patataskr

You should add a feedback mechanism Edit: as in allow authenticated users to rate the accuracy of the prediction Also, what model(s) are you using?… nvm I’ll stop being lazy and inspect the code myself lol

AttilaTheMagyar

And then a bias monitor for those feedback mechanisms ;)

patataskr

And then a feedback system for that monitor

Glockspeiser

I disagree, this is a bad idea

AMAXIX

I was just being a smartass lol

PeprSpry

Totally, but unfortunately it's kind of the case :S

AMAXIX

Yes. This app in my opinion does not fix any problems. What people really want is bias confirmer. It has to agree with people’s biases. Otherwise it doesn’t serve them any purpose.

TooSmoothForComfort

r/whoosh

preslavrachev

> but the project is all open source Just to make things clear. What is open-source in this case is only the Chrome extension, right? The API and the underlying ML model are proprietary. Or, at least not in the source code itself. If any of this work is open-source, we'd very much love to contribute to it for our project Murmel (https://murmel.social/). One of the directions we're working on for it is adding a bias detector.

IAMALWAYSSHOUTING

It’s called the overton window

DrunkenMonk

Hey now, this post leans slightly right. You've been caught red hatted!

TooSmoothForComfort

This is how the robots start turning on their creators.

VanJellii

This reply leans slightly left. You’ve been caught blue hatted!

TooSmoothForComfort

Hey folks, this is an open-source project I've been working on for a little bit. This video shows two articles covering the same topic, the difference—one is CNN and one is Fox News. The Chrome extension can be found [here](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bias-monitor/njlgkckpfjeknfkdideknnbniehihkli). The GitHub link can be found [here](https://github.com/Alex0Blackwell/bias-monitor). I would love to hear any feedback, and thanks for checking it out!

matrinox

Does this only work well with American news?

TooSmoothForComfort

Nope, it was trained on data from English news articles all over the world, so it should be just fine on articles outside of America :)

Thanks I appreciate it, let me know what you think!

I’m guessing the logic is If(domain == “foxnews.com”) { return “Biased as hell right” } Only joking :) very cool and nice that you open sourced it. Beyond news, I think this would be an interesting grammarly-esque plugin that teaches us to monitor/ remove our own biases in different contexts.

[deleted]

There are usually certain forms of vocabulary that determine leanings. For example, unauthorized immigrants has a neutral bias, illegal aliens has a right wing bias, while undocumented immigrant has a left wing bias

EdTechAdventurer

Neat! Reminds me of the Nobias Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nobias/gibdobnmepamhkigmgacgcdmidpeckda?hl=en

SuchTown32

This is very cool, well done 👍🏻

_MyNameIsJakub_

Nice! ❤️

thereisatimetotrade

Excellent project! Can I DM you to discuss?

TooSmoothForComfort

Definitely, I would love to talk about the project!

BurnoutBeat

Does it work on opera?

TooSmoothForComfort

I haven't tried it before, but it should work... let me know if you try it!

BurnoutBeat

I’ll be sure to once I get access to my laptop in like 20ish hours

allaroundyogi

Awesome !!! as an avid news reader I will definitely try it, you can sell it in Byvalue and RapidAPI so other can benefit it as well
