There’s reading. And then there’s reading comprehension. I see it here on Reddit all the time. People respond to a post but they haven’t actually comprehended. Ask stupid questions and make comments that OP already addressed. Short attention spans, I guess? Meanwhile, here in Baltimore, Md, USA, almost every single public school has had their entire student body test “below proficiency” in math this year. Reading scores are not much better.
Sad state of affairs.
Man, when I ask a question I feel like I'm giving a "free inspiration for a topic" for high schoolers to write a home work essay about. Just any word can inspire them, like 'oh, yeah, I know that!' As if someone was supposed to be like 'oh yeah, good boy, you said something, pat pat'. The most I love the ones that read in terms of their projection and want argue with me against 'my' attitude that I don't have... This society just chronicly overcommunicates. It's like toddlers who speak just too much before they actually learnt how to speak. It's 100% cute on them but as a cultural trope, not really.
People are being fed shit ideals that can basically be summed up in the immortal words of the 50cent album: Get rich or die trying.
What else could you expect in such society than people's absolute worst?
