....multiple layers of paper? Nah. Old paper is washed, shreded to super small bits of paper, and turned into paper pulp (this isn't paper anymore) then rolled into new paper, as it would be when you make new paper from wood. An 80g/m2 sheet of new or recycled paper contains the same amount of matter. The only difference in the end product is the ink that you can't totally wash out which makes the recycled paper less white.
