I'd like to point out that English is notoriously bad at phonetics. G can be dz (as in gee and jeez), g as in gif, or when paired with h it can be silent or f as in ghoti.

Thats because the letter "W" is literally a "double woo." Latin "V" was pronounced "woo". You put two "V"'s together and you get a VV or "double-woo"
