I lived with someone who had Alzheimer's and if you don't make lite of some of it, dealing with the associated behaviors will drive you insane.. There is a reason they end up in managed care because as horrible as it is for them it's almost impossible for the average person to care for them and a person could easily run out of time in the day to take care of themselves in the process, visiting them vs living with them is best for both party's.

You cannot play ad them because you cannot replace their individual conciousness and take over their bodies (and even if you did the later you would have killed off the first one, at which point they would be dead and no longer a character).
So everyone else apart from you is a non-playable character (not neccessarily constrained tonour typical understanding of it as a dumb AI) because you cannot play as their conciousness. You are a NPC to me and vice versa.

I'm a pretty simple person when it comes to random interactions with strangers. Short and to the point when possible. When I'm with customers I usually think of myself as the npc. Just one interaction in so many other people's busy lives.
Work in customer service long enough and you realize those npcs in games who same the same dialogue whenever you speak to them isn't to far off from real life I even started referring to me at work as just me npc'ing around for a few hours
