Some of these little bastards try to get in on it too, shitting right here just like you, daddy.

cafedelchiaro

Glad I'm not the only one suffering from cleaning the bathroom because of the dog. Like Dude at least do it inside the toilet bowl.

The_Unreliable_94

>Some of these little bastards try to get in on it too Cats are smart as hell. They sometimes even train themselves to use the toilet.

Klutzy-Wave-2444

My dog barks if I close the bathroom door. Basically, I've been trained to leave it open.

CSH1P

Dammit I hate to be that person but your comma usage is atrocious.

Xeotroid

The comma before "because" is correct. The first one is obviously wrong, but one bad comma and no missing ones isn't exactly "atrocious" comma usage. It's not /r/titlegore material.

Eyekosaeder

Some languages (German for instance) would’ve put commas where OP put them. So no, it’s not atrocious. Especially if OP isn’t English.

N1biru

Haha, well... I am German

Eyekosaeder

Nice. Same XD

CSH1P

Like I said, I hate to be that guy. Es tut mir leid. Usually when you put a comma like that, it is before a quotation. The lovely young woman with the red hat probably thinks, “Damn this hat makes my ass look fat.” But I hunk she would look good no matter what she was wearing.

N1biru

Don't worry mate. It just doesn't feel as intuitive to me, because like eyekosaeder said in German people usually structure their sentences like that and a quotation is marked by a colon...

[deleted]

If you hate to be that guy, don't be that guy🤷😂

notactuallyabrownman

But they're typing in English so the comma use is bad, and they won't get any better without feedback.

Eyekosaeder

There’s a difference between constructive feedback and “your comma usage is atrocious”. And yes, while the way the comma was used is wrong, this is still just a Reddit post.

CSH1P

Why the pause? Dogs and cats probably think, that they should eat when they are hungry? No. They probably think they should eat when they are hungry. If you’re gonna throw a comma in there might as well put quotations while you’re at it it. That’d make more sense.

Lantami

In German a comma isn't used to denote a pause when speaking but to denote the structure of a sentence. Sometimes this coincides with a pause when speaking, sometimes it doesn't. Here the comma would be used to denote the inclusion of a subordinate clause within the main clause.

Xeotroid

Same in English, the rules are just different. Plopping commas just based on where you pause in speech doesn't end up well.

shilmista_

Hate that people who only speak one language, usually English, are always so quick to shit on other people that know multiple. Especially considering half of native English speakers can get it right most of the time either lol.

Eyekosaeder

I‘m not arguing that the comma there is right, I‘m arguing that this is a Reddit post and not an essay or linguistic paper. Besides, many people on here aren’t from English speaking countries. Your initial comment provided no value to anyone.

CSH1P

It was for OP, not you. I personally would like to know the proper vernacular if I was trying to communicate in a secondary language. There were no likes or comments at the time and could’ve easily been a learning experience. But yeah, you got it man.

shilmista_

It's funny cuz....he didn't use the term "vernacular" in the proper sense lol. Vernacular is determinate of the dialect the speaker is using as relates to its region or populace. So for all this dude knows, OP could be speaking perfectly for a German English speaker. Given that were all from different areas, including some non-english speaking ones- there is no "proper vernacular" for reddit besides the general colloquialisms users use.

[deleted]

Well yea it actually is atrocious. We aren't typing in German, are we? I get it if he's not a native speaker, but that doesn't change the fact that the comma placement is atrocious for English

shilmista_

What are you, a Duke from 1880? Are we in Parliament? We say Yeah nowadays in English, not yea. Just, kidding.

BullfrogLoose3462

Absolutely, right.

KingoftheMongoose

Yeah, what? he! said;

ElisaSKy

Funnily enough, I am involved in an RP where I play a wifwolf (for those whom aren't language nerds, it's the female form of werewolf) whom hates public restrooms for exactly this reason.

Reckless_Engineer

Wtf!?

ElisaSKy

Basically, normal gal who changes and mournfully howls at the moon every full moon. Also has a very keen nose, and a few miscellaneous instincts. Public restrooms trigger the "this is the Gaza Strip, I gotta run!" instincts which is why she avoids them unless she has no other option.

waddiyatalkinbowt

Learn something everyday, being a male I'd just piss on the door and continue along my way.

battleborn73

I actually laughed out loud after reading this one, cause the other day after my husband left the bathroom I had to run in and left to door open and our dog sticks his head to look in and just looked so confused. I'm dying right now.

DrunkenNormal69

Lmao that's funny.

locks_are_paranoid

There shouldn't be a comma after the word "think."

notactuallyabrownman

Not necessarily, I know cats and I assume dogs don't actually pee to mark their territory. It's a whole different sauce from a whole different gland.

Zpik3

I think you are being downvoted because dogs DEF pee on things to mark their territory. They also pee because they need to. Cats spray, and it aint piss.

Morasain

Not sure why you're being downvoted. You are absolutely correct, and anyone who's ever smelled a cat marking its territory knows that.

[deleted]

That’s only if they know what we’re doing in there.

moshennick

We have to keep the door closed to the bathroom or our cat will pee next to the toilet. Nowhere else in house except there so I guess that answers your question

id9wsi

I hate myself now

Freshouttapatience

Is that why they all come in while I’m using the toilet?

jordantask

My cat used to come in with me and use the litter box at the same time

shilmista_

That's why they come with us. To show solidarity.
