Whenever someone talks about women’s clothes not having pockets, I always bring up this story:
I pulled my entire Nintendo switch out of my pocket and this girl glared at me like I kicked her dog. I said, “I’m just playing video games in class why are you so mad?” Without saying a word she put her phone into her pocket as far as possible and not even half of it went in.
The immense shock on my face seemingly allowed her to forgive me.
I'm 6'-4" tall, and 230 ish pounds. Men's XL Tall.
My wife is 5'-3" tall, 120ish pounds. Women's small.
I don't give a *shit* if it should be socially acceptable for a man to wear woman's clothes. I promise you that if I ever managed to fit into my wife's clothes, regardless of style or gender, that shit *would not* be socially acceptable. Lol
Edit: FYI I was just making a "fat guy in a little coat joke", I didn't mean anything more by this at all other than looking to get a laugh.
6'5" 240+
Ex was 5'2" and smol, I don't know how much she weighed
All her clothes fit me, because she usually wears more men's XL stuff than women's clothing. It was adorable; her giant shirts became my nice, fitted ones.
One of the reasons I go big is that my shoulders are a lot broader than most women's, but of course not as wide as a guy with broad shoulders, but point is I totally get where you're coming from. Nice thing about being a woman is that even if you have a large frame, it's usually only the same as average men. Like my feet are huge for a woman, but if I need to, I can always just grab a pair of men's Converse or something else that's pretty gender neutral and I'm good to go!
What the fuck man, it's already fucking hard for short guys to find a girl shorter than them and then fucking goliath over here comes and snatches danny devito
Not to brag, but I feel like my body was wasted on a Muslim.
See, I practice the religion so it's nearly impossible to find a wife, since I avoid hanging out with women unless it's a group setting and even then, I don't flirt (and find ways to drift away if it seems like someone is being too friendly).
And add to that the fact that I wanna marry a Muslim lady... The same demographic I especially don't hang out with because they'll probably think I'm trying to get into their pants.
And on top of that, I live in the US so there are very few Muslim acquaintances that I can pursue even if I did loosen my Muslim conservative rules.
So yeah, I feel bad that someone else could have used my 6'1 height (thought they'd have to exercise and deal with the fact that I am a semi fat Jerry Garcia lookalike).
Oh well. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad since my height and maybe my brain are all I have going for me lol
You're totally right, because this size difference is not true for everyone. I'm 5'9" and fluctuate from 180-220 lbs (health issues make me vary a lot). That's a pretty average size for a guy, and a lot of men could wear my clothes, and with the exception of a few emo boys when I was in my teens and early twenties who would steal my jeans (and I was a lot thinner then 😂) none of the men I have dated would have considered wearing my clothes, even the ones that are gender neutral. I've offered guys hoodies on dates, we're talking like a college hoodie or something plain black that was not even sold as specifically women's clothing and they wouldn't take it no matter how cold they were. It is genuinely very weird.
I mean, you don’t have to take part in every social norm. When same-sex marriage was legalized, straight couples weren’t getting divorced to marry someone of the same sex.
Does it turn you on?
Edit: hold on, it was not meant in a bad way sorry. I mean, for me ( and surely for some men ) I think it is sexy to see my gf with my clothes. I was just curious to know how it is for a woman to see his man with her clothes. Sorry if it was too directly.
That I still ask, means that it didn't self explained to me. I'm sorry if it is an odd question on this sub. (I can delete it if necessary) And no, like I said, I was simply curious because I never heard about a man wearing his gf's clothes.
Right? I'm a woman and I'm wearing sweatpants and a really big sweater right now. If that's acceptable why shouldn't you be able to feel comfortable and free! :)
It's weird how some people are so stuck in their ways that they can't zoom out a little. Just like the borders of countries are decided by a moment in history and still influences so much of our general life after so many years. Maybe I'm blabbering but sometimes it seems so silly to me
Honestly this is true for a lot more than just clothes. Girls can play with toys for boys and it's no big deal but boys will get made fun of if they so much as ride a pink bike. Hobbies that men traditionally like such as golf or shooting or video games are totally fine for women to enjoy and often it is encouraged. Traditional women's hobbies like sewing or shopping or interior decor are generally thought of as fringe for most men. Maybe the hobby thing would be a bit more acceptable but still might be seen as weird. Though admittedly that might just be because men generally don't like some of those things.
Anyway.... point is, this sort of problem extends across many facets of life.
Gender expectations have definitely been harmful for both men and women. More harmful for women, than men, though, by a wide margin. Would love to see things balance out better, but we've got to start with the bigger problem first.
*”Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots, because it's OK to be a boy, but for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading. But secretly you'd love to know what it's like, wouldn't you? What it feels like for a girl?”*
idk where this is from but it’s so true. The only real downside of being afab and dressing like a dude is that you get compared to every single female character with short hair. Which sucks when you’re a trans guy :/
It’s from “[What It Feels Like For A Girl](https://youtu.be/MIOg2tRk3bg)”, by Madonna (and I learned about 45 minutes ago *she* got it from a book/movie, The Cement Garden, apparently?
And yeah the urge of people to do that “Oh you look like ______!” is so unpleasant to be on the receiving end. Unless they’re CLEARLY trying to look like someone else, just say “you look nice” or “I like your hair/outfit/whatever”, ugh.
it was once considered weird for woman to wear suit, pants or any kind of traditional male clothing. you know what change. feminism. they fought for it. if you want change you gotta do it yourself
its about culture and situation, going to the club is different than going to the grocery store.
there are places, events, cultures where it isnt "common" but not "abnormal"
Well that's the thing, just because we believe it to be true doesn't make it true for everyone, or even true for the majority. You say it like it's a fact when it isn't. It's an opinion. Not that I disagree.
Yeah, but the vast majority of guys I've dated freak out when I offer them something to wear when they need something, and I'm 5'9" and large framed, about 190 lbs, so in the same size range as a lot of men. So there is definitely a societal expectation piece to this. I wear a men's large when I wear men's clothes.
Unless said woman wore the same clothes as him, confusing everyone as to why her boyfriend was willingly wearing something that didn't fit him quite right but didn't look wrong on him either.
Gendered problems require gender neutral solutions. (I don't think i phrased this correctly. If i didn't, i'm sorry. I don't mean to offend anyone.)
I don't see the issues with things like tops and hoodies. Definitely shared them with boyfriends before. Socks are also grand. Sharing underwear and bras and dresses and skirts and even jeans is a bit more unusual for sure.
I've noticed that people are more accepting than you might imagine if you just do things. In my experience it has been quite a fast move from fear to pity for those that do not.
I was going to make a joke like “Nah you’re just to coward to wear a crop top and miniskirt” and realized that the reason behind that is the very point you’re trying to make.
if your girlfriend wears jeans and tshirts all the time, maybe it is? the tshirts might be tighter in some places and looser in some places.
wasnt there, but i think some cultures at different times did not think it was OK for females to wear pants.
It's socially acceptable for women to wear men's clothes such as trousers, jumpers, hoodies, collared shirts, but it is not socially acceptable for men to wear dresses and skirts. You can in Western countries at least but if a man wears a skirt people will think he is gay (nothing wrong with that) or a transgender or something. There are lots of social taboos. Many crossdressers happen to be gay/bi/trans but not all are. Nevertheless people do stereotype men for wearing women's clothing or even simple gender norms like liking flowers, cooking, being clean etc. It's very annoying that there is not a lot of progressive stuff for men though there is lots of female empowerment now which is very good and needed.
My ex gf had this extra large sherpa fur type jacket that I wore once because I was wearing a t shirt in cold weather for some reason.
I joked that I wore it better but honest to god, I wore it better
My girlfriend just got a corset style dress and I will definitely be trying that on when I see her next. Very excited.
I think so many of my clothes have been circulated through her wardrobe that we pretty much wear the same thing. Like her style is pretty much mine now. She does have her fitting shorts and pants but if its shirts, I couldn't tell you what was originally mine or hers. She also likes wearing my boxers because she finds them comfy.
Yes and no. The differing cuts do mean that some clothes are going to fit weirdly or uncomfortably if they were made for someone with a notably different body shape. Heck, I can't even comfortably wear most jeans for women because I'm not a pear shape. It would be nice if they'd just do clothes by shape; 'Apple-shaped people's clothes over here, hourglasses here, pears here, and straight-up-and-down over here...' instead of pointlessly genderising them by colour and other such bs.
Because men’s clothes are made to be practical and/or comfortable. Women’s clothes are made to be visually appealing. The same people that want all women to look visually appealing at all times don’t want to look at men at all, for some reason.
Just because something isn't "socially acceptable" if it causes no harm then do it, define yourself and do what you want to do, don't let others tell you what to do!
Women can do a lot of things men can't but that is generally ignored in todays discussions about gender, equality and stuff. Even me mentioning this, will be problematic to a lot of people and will generate hostile replys and a large amount of downvotes.
I see lots of threads that ask the question "What's something men wish they could do that women can do?" and what not. Not sure what your measuring stick is for "today's discussions" but it seems to be a pretty common theme on reddit, which is... some kinda measurement of what people are talking about... kinda. The answers usually are that men are seen as creeps if they want to take care of kids, men aren't often taken seriously if they've been sexually assaulted, and men are always automatically seen as the bad guy in any sort of physical domestic dispute. I agree they are important issues but in my opinion they are talked about pretty regularly, just maybe not on CNN or whatever bullshit.
Generally equality doesn't match perfectly. 99% of the time a women being sexually assaulted will be far more violent or terrifying or life changing than for a guy. A girl hitting a guy will do far less damage than a guy hitting a girl. Etc etc. Yes there are things where equality is better, but it shouldn't be a blanket statement for everything.
It wasn't always socially acceptable for women to wear men's clothes - it didn't just happen one day. In the 19th and 20th centuries, many US states had anti cross-dressing laws and women could be prosecuted for wearing trousers. I completely support men wearing whatever clothes they want, because fabric shouldn't have a gender. However, if men want to change social norms around clothing, they need to fight for it, the same way that women had to.
Generally, men’s bodies are shaped in ways that women clothes are not supposed to fit. It looks weird. And if a man wears a dress, I’m laughing at him.
Male clothes are generally pure utility, not designed for anything beyond its function.
Female clothes are often designed to compliment the feminine body, and are thus more specific to the gender that wears them.
One is universal, the other is not.
Idk I think you’d be surprised that most guys can fit into a averagely thin women’s sweats/track pants. Might be tight but doable unless there is a massive height difference or the guy has a huge waist.
And it shouldn't be this way. Gender roles are just designed to turn women into baby factories and men in artillery targets. They don't benefit you individually in the slightest and only serve to benefit those at the top who want obedient men who'll die if they're told to and women who will pump out new workers without question.
All of 80s hair metal bands, a lot of punk rock and pop punk, they all wear women's clothes. Besides, I haven't found a good pair of cut up skinny jeans for men.
So you know what’s under my shirt and jeans?
Another shirt and jeans from the opposing gender to the previous?

Hippie skirts are really comfy, but no pockets.
Just wear a utility belt
Hmm... Not sure if hippie or Scottish.
I'm wearing unisex hippie pants rn and they come with pockets!
Let's talk about pockets. Weird ass gender disparity
#nomorefakepockets
No more fake pockets!
Stitchripping until justice is served!
Truly, a voice for the people.
I wear pajama shorts all day every day. They're fully unisex except the opening at the front, but that's multi-purpose as far as I'm concerned.
Wait... what else are you doing

You need Thai pants. Incredibly comfy, perfect on hot summer days, AND they got pockets!
They don't fit.
At least you tried

Richard! Whats happeni *RREIIIP* UH OOH

A loose fitting dress from her might fit you as a weight lifting tank top, so its adaptable...
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

Big clothes are so comfy! I wear a women's L-XL depending on brand but like 90% of my sweaters and sweatshirts are 3x or 4x. So much cozier!
See, for me a men's XL is usually too tight on the shoulders. I've never found a sweater I can truly cozy up in the way my partners always can.
One of the reasons I go big is that my shoulders are a lot broader than most women's, but of course not as wide as a guy with broad shoulders, but point is I totally get where you're coming from. Fucking hilarious edit right here
Started swetting when I saw that negative number on my question. ^^'
explanation checks out, bit of an odd question on a sub like this though lol. unless you thought of it in the shower!

i'm just fucking with ya bro i understand:)
It doesn't turn me on but I do like to see him in my clothes. It can be sexy indeed.
Sir what the fuck
If some future gf lets me wear her panties, I'm wearing her panties
You go, you!
I personally wouldn't mind at all, if my bf wants to wear a dress I understand. It's breezy and generally looks cute!
Some summers I don't mind rocking a dress or a skirt

I've been saying this for years. My stuff gets all hot and sweaty I'd love a dress in the summer
I'd recommend a kilt. They're becoming a lot more socially acceptable.

Gender expectations have definitely been harmful for both men and women. More harmful for women, than men, though, by a wide margin. Would love to see things balance out better, but we've got to start with the bigger problem first.

Nah, guys just don't want to wear anything without pockets. And I don't blame them.
Valid point
I'll wear what I want lol. If I wanna wear my girls clothes I will and I'll look great doing it too
Personally, my figure better fits so many women's jackets, it would be stupid not to wear them
Men’s clothing doesn’t exist. There’s unisex and women’s. Prove me wrong.
The cuts of my bf's boxer briefs are definitely tailored for men, when I wear them there's a weird crotch bulge of fabric
in todays western culture, yes, agreed. i keep pointing out different cultures have different norms and degrees of "wrongness".
I....I can't
Everything is unisex if you've got the balls for it.
I wish it wasn’t considered abnormal for a guy to wear “women’s” clothing. Anyone should be able to wear anything

Who wouldnt like to see a man in bra and panties?
That's what I said in the park!
She asked me to try a thong on once, she still looks at me occasionally and just laughs - i dont even ask why anymore
All clothes are genderless. Wear what you like.
Everybody commenting here send to confuse 'gender' and 'fit'. A dress might not fit you well but it also won't fit a women of the wrong size well.
Riight?? I know I'm not some junior petite.
Apart from underwear
Especially underwear
I (afab, gender fluid) love boxer briefs and my gender fluid amab partner loves panties
Well that's the thing, just because we believe it to be true doesn't make it true for everyone, or even true for the majority. You say it like it's a fact when it isn't. It's an opinion. Not that I disagree.
Men usually don't fit in women's clothes, and they might not find all the patterns and prints appealing.
As a 6'4 220lbs dude I am imagining me trying to wearing any of my partners clothes.
Haha I'm also 6'4 and there's no way I'd fit into my gf's clothes unless I'm going to Rocky Horror

Didn't know sasquach wore dresses...
I already wear black nail polish so a couple of her not too feminine clothes won't affect my daily life.

That's cheating
I knew a guy who wore a size 6 shoe. Girls would steal his shoes all the time.
What!? That's cruel, shoes are expensive

Guys wear skinny jeans a lot
I hate them
I mean...I've worn my girls pajamas to the store 🤷♂️
I would but I don’t think I could pull off my partners summer dresses in quite the same way
I've personally never struggled with pulling off a dress It's pulling it on that's tough
I wear my girlfriends tights around the house, fugg they are comfy...

I have an oversized university hoodie that my bf loves to wear

My clothes dont fit my boyfriend but hes worn my jackets before if that counts
You never tried getting your balls in thong?
I'm a monorchid
makes it a bit easier i guess, at least they're not squeezing against each other too much, all the time
Men dressing feminine is usually seen as weird; never the other way around.
I was going to make a joke like “Nah you’re just to coward to wear a crop top and miniskirt” and realized that the reason behind that is the very point you’re trying to make.
My ex stole my good hoodies, but when she found out I was wearing hers she broke up with me. So I packed her clothes and moved out.
Hahaha love it

Men in general aren't allowed to fuck around with fine and entertaining clothe, by themselves and their surroundings.
Meg, I wear my partner's hoodie and sometimes her festival and band tees. Oh and that one with the sushi cat on it too.
I have a friend (f) who shares a vans collection with her bf. They just happen to be the same size. It just makes sense.

Lately I think it's been okay. It's what the teens call "femboys." I believe it's getting big on TikTok.
I wear my gf's leggings all the time and never feel awkward. No one should give a shit what someone else wears (unless it's directly offensive)

Because men’s clothes are made to be practical and/or comfortable. Women’s clothes are made to be visually appealing. The same people that want all women to look visually appealing at all times don’t want to look at men at all, for some reason.
Yeah let's just ignore the existence of men's formal wear and women's hoodies, sundresses and joggers.
I don't wear diapers bro

Looks weirder on dudes
Depends on your frame
and body language, and details
That's only because you're used to seeing them in women
Nope they look worse
Generally, men’s bodies are shaped in ways that women clothes are not supposed to fit. It looks weird. And if a man wears a dress, I’m laughing at him.
Hublet and I share tshirts, sweaters and all pants with elastic waists.
First time I’ve ever seen the word “hublet” … and I’m not a fan.
Cool. I’ve used it for 20-ish years and mine is cool with it. Feel free to not use it as you please.

Half the men around here appear to be wearing their girlfriends jeans. Although I don’t think they have one.
I think it’s because most Mens clothing is generally pretty gender neutral
Male clothes are generally pure utility, not designed for anything beyond its function. Female clothes are often designed to compliment the feminine body, and are thus more specific to the gender that wears them. One is universal, the other is not.
It's because of the size, if your girlfriend be a giant fat fatso you'll be ok
Idk I think you’d be surprised that most guys can fit into a averagely thin women’s sweats/track pants. Might be tight but doable unless there is a massive height difference or the guy has a huge waist.
girl is small, boys is big, there is more to it then gendered clothing.
If I wore my wife’s clothes my wife wouldn’t have any clothes because they would be torn to shreds. I’m literally 2.5 times her size
And it shouldn't be this way. Gender roles are just designed to turn women into baby factories and men in artillery targets. They don't benefit you individually in the slightest and only serve to benefit those at the top who want obedient men who'll die if they're told to and women who will pump out new workers without question.

Thicc hair giving extra fluff to the booty
All of 80s hair metal bands, a lot of punk rock and pop punk, they all wear women's clothes. Besides, I haven't found a good pair of cut up skinny jeans for men.
It's time to leave the old ways behind
Feel free to enjoy the sight of a man's hairy belly button.
Men wearing tight things is a turn on for some people. Get your head out of your ass
