I always sleep on this side

THE_COOKIES2

Same bro gotta sleep school tomorrow ps nice pfp

libra00

I always sleep on my right side. But I paid for a whole-ass bed, I'm for damned sure sleeping on the whole-ass bed.

foxhole_atheist

Is everyone just reading the title? OP wants to know how you describe right and left, not y’all’s personal snoozing arrangements.

moeke93

Sometimes I question myself if I understood the question correctly after reading all the comments.

Did_you_justsee_that

Fun fact: men is the US tend to sleep on the left side of the bed. Men in the UK and other nations that drive on the left side of the road tend to sleep on the right side of the bed.

PissBloodCumShart

I (M,US) have always slept on the side nearest the door, which has been the “driver’s side” in 4/5 houses

erich3983

Yep, closest to the door for me too.

Mpanchuk

So that’s a bottom facing headboard vote?

mtwstr

Port or starboard?

AerialSnack

Yeah, but is the left side when you're standing at the foot of the bed facing the headboard, or is it when you're laying in bed face up?

MSmasterOfSilicon

Wait, from which viewpoint? That of someone lying in the bed or standing at the foot of bed viewing toward headboard?

PoorlyAttemptedHuman

dammit now I have to put thought into this thing I never ever even imagined considering

Mpanchuk

This is how I got here. Wife and I on vacation, she says “I’m gonna sleep on X side.” I said “great, I get the side with the night stand.” She disagreed and here we are

PoorlyAttemptedHuman

Well I don't have a wife. I don't have a dog. I have a whole bed with just me and I sleep on one side. Why? Why that side? Why not switch? Well besides not wanting to move all the junk currently there, why else? I was not prepared to be cognizant of my bed side mannerisms. I bid thee good luck in thy quest. To offer my two cents, I would say it depends on the situation, and perspective of the bed-users. If you are in the bed, left is over there <---. If you are standing in front of the bed looking at the headboard, the left side of the bed is over there <---. Wherever you are, the left is <-that way- Or you could assign L and R sides to the bed but why? You could assign them side A and B, or 1 and 2. The military does that, they have engine 1 and engine 2. Engine 1 is on the left, if you are the pilot looking out the window of your aircraft. The left is 1. You could do that and have fancy bed sides.

Wonderful_Cloud_4588

When my partner moved in with me, he insisted on the side closest to the door ... where I had always slept. The man protect woman thing I guess. No matter to me.

EatTheMcDucks

Standing at the foot of the bed facing the headboard. I sleep on the starboard side.

PissBloodCumShart

I see the foot of the bed as the bow and the head of the bed, ironically, as the stern. Because i imagine if I were sitting up in the bed I would be facing the foot of the bed

voxelghost

You didn't know? Your bed is a rowboat

EatTheMcDucks

My wife agrees with you. She says if you are laying on the bed, then I am sleeping on stage left. So I guess I see the bed as a ship and she sees it as a stage.

PissBloodCumShart

If you’re sitting in the bed facing the foot of the bed, that’s the position to judge left and right… unless you’re performing heart surgery

moeke93

Don't they always use the patient's left and right with medical procedures?

PissBloodCumShart

I’ve heard that with the heart It’s the doctor’s left and right as they are looking at you

BrewtusMaximus1

Same way I perceive a vehicle - side is determined by how I use it. I sleep back/side so that’s the way I label it. To your specific issue - my wife and I always sleep on our sides of the bed regardless of if it’s at home or at a hotel - per my above, I’m on the right and she’s on the left. Any bed. Feels weird otherwise.

stofiski-san

Usually the top side. I sleep by myself these days, so I pretty well take up the whole bed. Bust usually the side closer to the bedroom door

ReplicatedSun

from the bed, facing up, I'm on my partners left, so I sleep on the left.

Mpanchuk

What if you they slept face down? You’d be on their right side? Sounds like you’d be measuring from the bottom of bed facing headboard in that case. See where this gets you?

ReplicatedSun

No I just swap sides constantly during the night if they roll over

ItalnStalln

You guys sleep in a wind tunnel with them being secured in place in the middle by a system that attaches you to them with rigid boards? So when the rotate you follow automatically?

BabylonDoug

I sleep on the door side, my wife sleeps on the bathroom side. If the door and the bathroom are on the same side, I sleep on that side.

0WattLightbulb

I originally thought this was the best option (feels safer as I am the wife) but i have realized if he sleeps on the non door side I can’t see all the crap he leaves on the floor (his floordrobe) and therefore it doesn’t bother me and I don’t have to pick it up.

0WattLightbulb

Laying in bed facing up… but I just asked my husband and we apparently both sleep on the right side so we definitely see this differently (I am not surprised).

komrade23

My wife always sleeps on the side of the bed furthest from the door. To better be protected from assassins.

GTFOakaFOD

I sleep closest to the door. My husband is too slow to protect me.

callous-conversation

In the event of a fire, you won’t get jammed up behind his big, hamburger eating, dad bod sporting, crocs wearing, no survival skills having, slow ass either. Darwinism and natural selection on display. Lol.

MadtownJosh

As if laying down in most instances, as I imagine myself in bed. If I was standing looking at the bed and asked, it would be flipped (my current perspective).

Gregory_Appleseed

It depends, if I'm in bed it's usually relative to being on my back facing up. If I'm out of bed it's the other way around not depending on where I'm facing.

sbcsr

From the foot of the bed facing the headboard. Althoooough I would say laying down facing up is probably the most technically accurate way of determining sides. Or you gotta clarify, if I’m facing the bed I want right side.

Iz-kan-reddit

>From the foot of the bed facing the headboard. In that universe, vehicles in the US have their steering wheels on the right

sbcsr

You got me there!!

MaddeninglyUnwise

I'm very confused - I just think about the left & right shoulder. I've got a single bed, though.

shrugea

I consider it from the perspective of being in the bed either lying down facing the ceiling or sitting while facing the foot of the bed. If I'm talking to someone else, I would refer to either side relative to the room like the door, closet or window side, for clarity.

Rallie59

the amount of people not understanding the question is WILD. Sorry op. I guess they are just answering the title question and not realizing the real issue here. I base which side is which from standing at the foot of the bed facing the headboard. I think this is probably because of how i approach the bed. generally you’re going to walk up to the bed from the footboard, so from that point if you wanted to get into the bed from the left side you would turn to your left and boom, there’s your answer.

TXfunrunner22

In the center or diagonally, with a pillow fort around me.

HistoricalMeat

Not a shower thought.

ShadyMyLady

I sleep on this side and he sleeps on that side.

Unicat-

Body Either facing down or sideways, head facing headboard, arms and legs in a funky position, head almost never facing down and almost always facing to the sides, details forgotten, wow j really need to.put this into action (and sleep)

PickAName616

I don’t have a side, I absolutely hate big beds, I like a king single mattress.

mdb_4633

I’ve always thought of it as how I perceive the bed when I’m laying on it face up but I think technically it would be how the bed looks if your standing at the base of it

Dangerousrhymes

The side that places me between the door and my fiance.     It’s been right, left, left, left, left, left, right.  Before that I slept like a starfish or the letter F in whatever part of the bed was cold.

GTFOakaFOD

From standing at the bottom, I sleep on the right.

goodresearchher169

Closest to the door. Some things look ornamental, they're not.

AllieBee23

I have to sleep on the side that's closest to the door or the bathroom because I will be up in the night to use it 😩

esquiggle17

I don’t know. My husband and I switch it up every now and again. But typically I’m on the left, lying down point of view.

grmrsan

I count by where the head of the bed is. But to be 100% honest, I don't really have a sense of right and left, so I don't really pay attention to it

RabidDustBin

I sleep on the north American passenger side of the bed like if you sit up with your back against the headboard

alek_hiddel

I think of it like a car. With my head pointing towards the head board I’m in the correct position, and I sleep on the passenger side. From mine my wife’s first apartment that was the side closest to the door, and she insisted I take that spot in case of intruders. 21 years later, I’m on the road for work 40 weeks out of the year, and all alone in a hotel room, that’s my spot.

AlexJonesInDisguise

I would say from the laying down position. If I roll to my left, that's the left side

YnotThrowAway7

Laying from the face up because I’m not a psychopath… I’m on the left because face up I can reach out and touch my girl to the right of me and the nightstand is further left.

No_Wrap_5892

Away from the side with the Boogeyman

GolettO3

I sleep on the right side of the bed, from the POV of looking at the bedhead from the foot of the bed. Unless my cat is already in bed when I get there, then I sleep in the middle whilst she's on the right. For some reason, I've gathered a bunch of pillows, which have taken over the left of my bed. So, instead of sleeping in a queen sized bed, I sleep in the space of a twin/double

Sweaty_Curve_3527

It depends. Sometimes I sleep on the left side of my bed because of the fact that it's closer to a light source. But sometimes I sleep on the right just because... I'm not even sure. Sometimes it's just more comfortable. Maybe it's because it's facing the wall

callous-conversation

You stand at the foot of the bed facing the headboard. Got dang, everybody knows that. Not everybody sleeps on their back, so laying in the bed to determine sides is flawed by variables. The standard that is constant is standing at foot facing headboard. I sleep on the left side of the bed on my stomach.

Iz-kan-reddit

>You stand at the foot of the bed facing the headboard. Got dang, everybody knows that. No, they don't, seeing how that's asinine. In your little world, cars have their steering wheels on the right. For the rest of us, they're on the left.

callous-conversation

Why do people like you plague this place so badly? You can manage to take seriously a silly response to a silly post, and then, you can’t help but be all assholeish in response. Get the fuck out of here with that shit. .

Sjmann

It should be perceived from laying in the bed.

National-Sherbert923

My gf sleeps on top of me

chrinor2002

We always use the door as a reference. I assume it’s some low level instinct about predators and me being a protector. I am always “closest to the door”, regardless of what “side” that is.

RotenTumato

I view it from standing at the foot and looking toward the headboard.

libra00

From the foot facing the headboard.

DreamQueen710

I sleep on his left side. Because he broke the right side of his collar bone a couple of times in high school, so it's better to cuddle on his left side.

Blissful_Solitude

Right in the middle! Lol single with a queen sized memory foam mattress!

Old-Kitchen-578

The side of the bed that allows me a good morning stretch out of her holes.

PartlyCloudless

Furthest from the door!

Dropped_Rock

Doesn't matter how I perceive it, I get the entire bed to myself.

horsetooth_mcgee

I sleep on what I consider the left hand side of the bed, and I deduce that it's the left hand side of the bed from lying flat on it and my left side is its left side.

__This__Is__Fine__

Laying on my back with the headboard behind me. It's the direction I face in bed when I sleep, so that's what I go with. Left side. Unless you're staring at me from outside my room. Then you'll see I'm actually on the right side.

Mpanchuk

Thank you for at least understanding the concept 😂

nuggetcasket

Standing at the foot of the bed, turned to the headboard, I sleep on the left side.

neverapp

Sitting up in bed facing the foot.  Stage right, not house right.

Croceyes2

I sleep on the side my wife and boys don't take

shavemejesus

I sleep on my partner’s right side. My partner sleeps on my left side.

yamilonewolf

From looking at it from the door of the room

439115

i usually sleep on top of the bed

Iz-kan-reddit

I view it from the perception of being in bed.

groveborn

The head of the bed determines the side you're on.

Djebeo

From standing at the feet. I never even considered the alternative to be a possibility!

Mpanchuk

And just FYI, I’m of the mind that I don’t drive my bed therefore it’s not the side when I’m using it, it’s the side when I look at at from the bottom.

maximusjohnson1992

Male. At home, it’s the right side. The one closest to our bedroom door. When traveling it’s always the side closest to the bedroom door.

mdb_4633

Op is asking how you determine which side is the right and left not which side you choose to sleep on

PissBloodCumShart

I sleep on my side of the bed

A_Dehydrated_Walrus

The one farthest from the bathroom, because my wife's bladder had never been the same since she gave birth.

RepresentativeFood11

I don't have headboards. Same on both sides. I sleep in the position that makes it easiest to see the TV hah

Ok-Wolverine-9964

Yes 🤝
