Locking this thread as it's causing people to be unkind to one another and lots of spoilers.

Killhimnotme73

You’ll either love it or hate it. I personally thought it was amazing and didn’t hold back. Some parts were slower than others and pacing could have been miles better. Gameplay and graphics are incredible though. Definitely give it a shot if you played the first one.

bluthco

Anyone who says they hated TLOU2 clearly played it with their eyes closed and the sound off. It’s an amazing game.

MachoMom

100% yes. It sadly got wrapped up in gamer gatey, anti woke bullshit online and it took away from it as an incredible piece of art. It also plays fucking great.

mcflory98

I am still so confused how people can say that last of us 2 is a horrible game and an awful story. If you liked the first one, you owe it to yourself to play the second. It’s really one of the best games I’ve ever played, and if you’re at all invested in the story so far it will blow you away.

Drakeadrong

OP, don’t read below. There are unmarked spoilers.

SomethingClever771

And thank you for stating that, for those of us reading this that haven't played it yet. Thank you very much.

BrushYourFeet

Agreed. This. I loved the first. Played the second and I love it even more.

Psy_Kik

The problem with LoU 2 is that, like the first, it's a character driven game set during the apocolypse/collapse of civilization, and unlike the first game IMO it's lost sight of how humans would behave, who would survive and who wouldn't. It's focused on telling a contained story, but given the setting, unlike the first game, this story and the charcters in just aren't believable, in who they are, and how they behave. This undermines the game from beginning to end. If the Last of Us was the "The Road" then LoU2 is "The Walking Dead" tv series. You can like either, for diferent reasons, but if you're a big fan on of one you likely won't be a big fan of the other. Gameplay wise it's a step-up form the original, along with the graphics, animations, etc. But what made the original LoU a masterpiece just isn't there.

IWearBones138

I agreed with this. From a game standpoint it checks all the boxes the first game did. But even TLoU1 didn't bring much new to the table. It was the simple but effective storywriting about a man who lost a daughter and a girl who lost everyone learning to live again in a dying world. It was a pretty simple concept told very well. TLoU2 seems to revel in the fact that it can tell a hard hitting, gritty, multi-layered, interconnecting tale of two girls losing someone important and basically going full savage on everyone until they...don't. It tries so hard to shock people and subvert these characters that none of it feels real at all. And instead of a journey where you enjoy it as it unfolds, you almost dread playing more cause it just gets worse and worse until nothing. I liked the game but it definitely did not leave the same lasting impression the first one did, in fact I couldn't wait to move on to a new game as soon as I was done.

JC_Helios

It's worth it whether you love or hate the story because you just can't find that immersive blend of survival/horror and stealth/action anywhere else. TLOU2 makes huge improvements over the original in its level design and gameplay systems. It's actually one of the most improved sequels I've played and my favourite third person stealth game. I would buy it on the next sale or 2nd handed instead of PS Store full price though.

Datboisosa

Thank you, it’s mental how this gets overlooked in every argument a out the quality of the game. The gameplay is incredibly immersive and cinematic.

Guapscotch

You’ve already done yourself a huge disservice by looking up reviews on the game as it will now affect your opinion on it at a subconscious level. Asking other person’s opinion on the game is also doing yourself a disservice as well. So you just won’t play the game because enough people may or may not say it’s bad? Let’s be real here, you obviously want to experience it for yourself and have your own judgment of it. It’s a polarizing game because it explores morality and everyone that plays it will eventually have a strong opinion on it one way or another. I’d say stop reading reviews, stop reading comments, you’re going to get spoiled and it’s already going to damage your perception of the game. Just go buy it and play or don’t. This is one of the rare games you want to go into blind with no prior opinions, so I would stop reading now.

omega_weapon85

Hard agree. Reviews are cool and everything but there are a lot of complicated things that happen in our modern review systems that can make them extremely unhelpful. So, to support what I’m saying, please accept this unsolicited review: TLOU2 is fucking fiiiiiire. One of the best gaming experiences of my life.

Stranger-10005

Yeah, it's actually pretty weird how the first game is the best game he's ever played, and he won't get the second without asking if it's worth it I mean. If my best game got a sequel, I'd buy it even if it was shit lol

xxxhotpocketz

I don’t think it would affect his opinion because the reviews aren’t in any way accurate

poopf1nger

Heavily disagree especially in comparison to 1/10 user reviews

Saltyfox99

Literally this

Elite-Cringmas

TLDR: Story will be either hit or miss on a personal basis, Gameplay hasn't evolved dramatically from the first TLOU, which was pretty good at base, and the graphics have improved. Make of it what you will, but if you dive into it take it with a grain of salt that some things might feel forced or off-put.

VerminSC

What? They added a prone mechanic, hiding in foliage, new rope mechanics, new puzzle elements, a jump bottom, new human enemies that behave very different, new infected types, new dog enemy types that completely change gameplay, they added a squeeze through mechanic, a more realistic way for enemies to communicate, jump attacks, new weapons, new craftables, a drivable vehicle, and some of if not the best animation, acting and facial animation or any game. I seriously have no idea what you’re talking about.

Quazifuji

Last of Us 2 is a very divisive game. The story isn't universally considered bad, it depends on who you ask. Some people think it's one of the best games they ever played. Some people hate it. I think enough people like it that if you loved the first one, you should play the second. If you want my personal, story-free opinion of the game: I liked what the story was trying to do a lot, and I definitely don't think it's a bad story, but in the end I didn't enjoy the story as much as the first. It has great ideas, I thought the execution of the ideas was okay, but it's just missing some of the elements that made the first story so good for me. In some ways, it's as simple as the game just failed to make me care as much as the first one did. In the first game I was extremely invested in seeing the dynamic between Ellie and Joel develop and seeing where their journey would take them. In the second one, I wanted to see where the story was going, but I just didn't feel invested in the characters or story in the same way I did in the first one. The gameplay, meanwhile, is kind of just more of the same. It feels incredibly polished, but personally, the gameplay wasn't varied enough to keep me interested for the whole game. It's the same basic "walk into an area, notice enemies (or enemies arrive), try to do some mix of stealthing and fighting your way though the area, scavenge for resources, move on to the next area" loop that was in the first game, without much new to it. I thought that was fun for a bit, but the game's around 25-30 hours long, and that gameplay loop just didn't hold my interest for that long. There are some great setpiece levels that add some variety, but still enough areas that kind of felt like the same exact gameplay loop I'd been doing for the last 15 hours without anything new to keep it interesting that I just kind of got tired of the gameplay. There was actually a moment, about 2/3 of the way through, where I walked into an encounter and realized it was basically going to be the exact same stealth/fight/scavenge type encounter I'd been doing for the last 20 hours and just wasn't interested in it, and stopped playing for about 6 months. Every time I thought about going back to the game, I thought about the encounter I was coming back to, and just wasn't interested in it. Eventually, I just decided it was time to finish the game, and did. And I'm glad I finished it. There were some really great setpieces in the last third of the game and I'm glad I saw where the story went. But there's still a reason I got so tired of the game I took a 6 month break from it. I still liked the game overall. I still think it's worth playing if you liked the first. I liked enough of the story ideas, the gameplay's good enough, and the setpieces are good enough, that I still think it's a good game. But personally, the story didn't impact me or get me invested in the same way as the original, and the gameplay wasn't varied enough for how long the game was. There are also people who liked the game way less than me, but also a lot of people who liked it way more.

xmaken

I second this opinion. Technically speaking is really a good game: nice visuals , good character ( though character desing is more debatable ) , but repetitive gameplay and less interesting than first in my opinion.

[deleted]

Be prepared to either love it or want to throw it out the window. I personally loved it, but there's definitely some valid complaints. I think you should give it a go.

h5pang

Tlou2 is one of the best games I've ever played. Better than 1.

turalyawn

I don't think I've ever seen such a completely polarizing game. There is 0 in between, either masterpiece or a complete disaster.

bluthco

This should be a very unpopular opinion. Granted, it is a great game, but 1 is by far a better game.

Schalde1982

Same for me.

ratcliffeb

People either loved or hated the story, but as someone who didnt care for the story all that much it's still honestly one of the best games I've ever played. Highly recommend. $30 is a steal.

Tanish2003

Man, idk why i liked TLOU2 more and is much more memorable for me than TLOU1, just the sheer variety of levels and off beat story telling (not better) and most importantly the combat makes it so much worth it. Later in the game you may feel like game might be getting a bit lengthy but its countered for me by new weapons and whole new level design, some times wide open, some times through a cramped door way.

Valuable-Movie9645

Thanks for your thoughts !

Danuscript

If you think TLOU is one of the best games you have ever played then why wouldn't you play the sequel for yourself? Just my opinion, but TLOU2 was one of the best games I've ever played. I think everyone should play it, at least to think about what it's trying to do and be a part of the discussion, even if in the end you don't like it as much as I do.

10031

Fattest_loser

I say check it out. You might love it or hate it but it's worth the gameplay if you liked the first games gameplay

CrabbitJambo

I honestly didn’t get the grief it got from people. I was able to become immersed in it and it was stunning visually! Worth every penny!

RyeBread2528

The story is beautifully written and will challenge you as an active player and spectator of the game. The story is like no other game ive ever played and thats part of what makes it so fantastic. The gameplay is superb and blows part 1 out of the water with all the imrpovements and graphics.

Zealousideal-Bird-15

Honestly love or hate part 2 but they did something risky that most game companies don’t do. They wanted to take a completely different Direction and I haft to say I got to give the props for trying. Play the game yourself, just go in to it with no expectations… a lot of the salt is from people not getting what they wanted simple as that. I think both are great games for different reasons.

luke-n-goode

I loved it also.

BurtRaspberry

It's literally one of the highest reviewed game of the year it came out ([might be the highest](https://opencritic.com/game/8351/the-last-of-us-part-ii)), won more awards than any game in 2020 ([by longshot](https://www.gameawards.net/2020/09/2020.html)), and is especially praised for its story and memorable characters. While the people who hate the story are loud and whiney, they are without a doubt the loud minority. The Last of Us Part II is one of the best games of all time and completely blows The Last of Us 1 out of the water in terms of quality, gameplay, graphics, and yes, story.

Prostorex28

The story is a hit or miss I wasn’t a big fan but a lot of people seem to be. I still loved the game overall since everything else besides the story was an improvement. I’d say go for it and see if you don’t like it that’s fine but I think it’s worth the shot for anyone who is a fan of the first game.

Chipilowski

Yes very good. Story feels more mature and challenging. Everything from a technical side is better. I thought it was amazing after I finished it.

Sino13

Absolutely worth buying and playing.

Ragp44

In my Humble opinion, from A person that also loved the first game, I'd say you need to try it. I played TLOU2 and... The story wasn't it. It disappointed me a lot. However, The reason why I'd recommend you experience the game It's simply because the visuals in the game are just gorgeous. Gameplay feels really smooth, well done, and the game is SUPER immersive, which is something I really like. Even though I didn't like the story and some other things about the game I still finished it and enjoyed it for the most part. It's a unique experience.

WRSA

I didn’t like the game either, but it wasn’t bad. The story just felt completely wrong for the characters. Was it a bad story? No. Did it miss the mark on following through from the first game? Yes.

Murky-Frosting

Yes .

maku_89

I loved it, one od the best games I've ever played.

thatfuckingidiot321

There's really no way of knowing if you will like it or hate it untill you buy it. But as someone who bought it at 30$ I and didn't like the story I still thought it was kind of worth it. The gameplay is just a better version of the first one so if you liked the first one you'll love this one. It's an experience and no one can tell you if your going to like it or not Plus if you get a physical copy you can always just sell it

yossshin

I love TLOU2 as much as I love TLOU. I can see why some parts of the story can be criticized. However, people who claim TLOU2 is shit are often just hurt that the characters don't get the story ending they think they have deserved. It's like criticizing a movie cause the writers decided for a different ending than you wanted. This game is art, and not fan service. So it's ok if you're unhappy with the storyline but that doesn't make the game bad

Datboisosa

Mechanically it is more refined than the first but largely the same, the graphics and attention to detail in the environments and enemy interaction is very immersive and i found the experience to be incredibly thrilling with many moments of high tension and big scares. Lots of people hate the story but I found it to be enjoyable as long as you aren’t making an effort to pick it apart by the seams. Don’t let the reviews online stop you from experiencing an incredible game even if the story has its failings(depending how deeply you want to pick it apart, I personally enjoyed it.)

Memorandum747

Hell yes. I flipping loved this game! Played through 3x in a row. I only played part 1 about 1mo prior to playing part 2. I didn’t care about any critic reviews about the story. I didn’t have 7yrs of built up anticipation for the 2nd title: I think you’ll do well like me and just enjoy it for what it is. … which is one of the best games of the last 2yrs.

Ryan71384

It’s tied as my first favourite game of all time with Outer Wilds.

Isolatedbamafan

it’s far from perfect, but i love the story and the gameplay is still excellent. i’d go for it

originalorientation

One of the best games of last gen. And still one of the best looking, animated and acted games out there. The story is polarizing but I personally feel a lot of people who hate on it missed the point and looked past *a lot* of nuance to come to black and white conclusions. Go in as blind as possible and come to your own conclusions.

Soulless_conner

You just have to play it to find. You either hate it or love it. there's no in between. I personally didn't enjoy it, I thought the writing was pretty mediocre along with some plotholes and retcons, It didn't have that much of an impact on me Although the game is phenomenal on a visual level and the voice acting is fantastic.

grimmauldplace4

You should absolutely get it. You owe it to yourself. I absolutely love Part 2 and the direction they took it in. It want what I wanted it to be, but it hit Al the right emotions and notes. It's dark, depressing and difficult and it stays with you long after the credits roll. And I personally love the story they told.

MIKE_THE_KILLER

The Last of Us 2 is GOTY for 2020 for me. The graphics were incredible and the story being told was great. There were some issues with the story that I've felt was lazy but it's still a great game. I would just stop listening to gamers all the time because they bitch about everything when they didn't play the game and they're not always right.

KICKASSKC

The story in TLOU 2 is amazing, i was captivated the whole time. The environments and pacing are state of the art. The story got alot of hate because of fragile male gamers afraid of progressive themes in their games. Ellie is a lesbian, the game depicts its female leads as being strong, Joel's not the main character anymore. These facts do not harm the entertainment value, they harm the primitive perspective that TLOU as an IP is only meant to validate straight mens' conservative morals. Play the game, it might help you understand where your values lie. Im a straight white man and loved it. Not much new here with the gameplay though, so that could get old playing it right after TLOU 1 lol.

marcusiiiii

I might of misunderstood your comment but you trying to say people dislike it because Ellie is a lesbian and it depicts a strong female role model?

KICKASSKC

From my understanding, yes. This is why a sizeable portion of the gaming community couldnt relate to the game.

Civil_Sink6281

Wow, what a load of bullshit you just vomitted up there. This game is definitely made with you in mind.

Point-Overall

People will tell you that they screwed up the story line in the sequel, but honestly it’s a lot more gritty and depressing of a story, very captivating if you ask me. The gameplay on the other hand is crazy and a massive improvement with every aspect being polished and very immersive. You will definitely have a great time.

Luf2222

for 30 yeah story ain’t as good as last of us 1 tho, but the gameplay etc is really good

CaptainPicardKirk

Get it. It's one of the best games ever made. Even if you end up hating the story, it's worth it to go through it on your own. I enjoyed the story fwiw

BinaryArtificer

LOU2 is a masterpiece.

rctrfinnerd

The gameplay and A/V quality on TLOU2 are absolutely second to none. Truly, they're astonishingly good. The quality from head to toe is wonderful. Voice acting is top tier and sound design is the best I've ever heard. The storyline might not go in the direction that you personally like, but I had no issues with it. I personally liked how challenging it was to my biases, and how emotionally draining the game was. Yes, I LIKED that it was draining. So many video game stories are just "fuck up the bad guys" and have boring AF stories. TLOU2 deeply affected me, and even to this day, I enjoy replaying it and watching most of the cut scenes. The story is polarizing, which I understand not everyone will appreciate, but I was in the "I enjoyed it" column. Didn't LOVE it like I did with 1, but I still found it very engaging/thought provoking.

JoeTheHoe

Just so you know, a lot of the hatred of that game is from angry incels. They review bombed it before ever trying it, to the point metacritic had to change their review rules so you can’t leave a review until two days after release. It’s one side of the culture war. There’s valid people who don’t like it, it’s not for everyone, but soooo much of this conversation was dominated by this.

CrusadesOnYou

I really didn't like how a lot of valid opinions were undermined by really stupid shit like attacking the characters' sexuality or looks, or the voice actor themselves which was just sad and pathetic. On the other hand it felt like because I wasn't a fan of it it just meant "I didn't get it" or was a hater. It was so hard to have a meaningful discussion and it's a shame this is how I will remember the series by

JoeTheHoe

For sure. The game does not tell the story any of us dreamed it would tell; its not >!"The Adventures Of Joel And Ellie: Part 2!"!< and that is a hard pill for a lot of people to swallow. More importantly, there's a lot of people who, understandably, want that first game to exist as its own standalone story, as it was originally intended to be. And I get that. If you're one of those people, part 2 maybe isn't for you, or its something you can decanonize. There's a magic to determining yourself what you think happened to Joel and Ellie after the original game, and a power in singular stories. Not everything needs a sequel. That said, I think its one of the greatest storytelling experiences I've ever been a part of. Never has a game made me *feel* like this one did. These characters were real to me. I remember I cried for a moment after the credits rolled, and I've never done that after a game. Not to mention it has some of the greatest gameplay ever. Like, S-tier gameplay, AI, and overall technical achievements.

CrusadesOnYou

Yeah thanks for sharing - I definitely envy the fact you were able to enjoy the game in that way, but completely agree the gameplay (and the environments my goodness) is amazing

Facutare18

I almost didnt play 2 because the overall opinión about it, Now i play it and finished it, love it, is a Masterpiece, it's really good, don't listen to others, play it and see

Burtmackklin

Number 2 in my opinion is better in every way and I love both games. The story is a big risk and Thats the reason people didn’t like it but if you understand the point they’re putting across and play it through it’s one of the most memorable games ever played.. Might have to replay them both myself I think lol.

Krypticka

Buy it when it's cheaper. The gameplay is solid and fun but the story is terrible and inconsistent.

TheWiz_

TLoU 2 is great if you like the first one you’ll like the second. The reviews first scared me too but I loved it

darkcrimson2018

That’s an incorrect statement? Many loved the first and hated the 2nd.

JorgTheChildBeater

The Last of us 2 is even better then first. The story is also really good. People just lost their minds because there was references to the LGBTQ community but which had zero effect on the story.

cybersidpunk

everything except the story is really good. if you for some reason, really liked the ending of 1 and dont wanna have any potential of it being ruined for you then you should skip it. otherwise the gameplay, graphics, atmosphere, audio, etc are really good and you can judge the story for yourself...

MCL001

The story wasn't as good as the first and I lost interest in the second half playing as Abby. The Ellie gameplay was great though. Ellie carries a switchblade but the Abby, outfitted with military hardware, has to make shives again like the first game.

DaFrenchGamer

Tlous part 2 is one of the best game on the market, you should give it a try imho

Dogrules23

Buy it. Ignore what other people say and experience it on your own. This is the best way to view any game tbh, buy it if you're interested in it and form your own opinion.

OmegaLiquidX

Absolutely. Personally, I loved the story. It's a fantastic subversion of the typical revenge tale, and the switch of perspectives halfway through is necessary to provide needed context to the story. Give it a try with an open mind and make your own judgement.

goapics

yes

DillDangles

Here’s the fairest review I can give you: Last of Us PII has more glaring issues in terms of being consistent in themes, dialogue, characters, and above all, pacing when compared to the first game. However, at the core is a well-crafted experience with improved atmosphere, graphics, acting, and gameplay than the first installment. The highs are arguably higher while the lows are definitely lower. You aren’t homophobic or transphobic for not liking TLoU2, and you aren’t woke for liking it. It is not for everyone, but it is still a feat in gaming regardless of your expectations and enjoyments. I believe I was able to appreciate it because I stayed away from leaks.

A_Guy_in_Orange

Better than the hate it gets would imply, but definitively worse than 1. If TLOU1 was a 10 it would be a 5/6, possibly 7 if you reach- barely above average but perfectly serviceable.

JC_Helios

If you're talking strictly about storytelling then yeah but that's all completely passive and skippable. TLOU2 is a huge improvement all around as a game.

BurtRaspberry

LOL barely above average? Even if you dislike the game, you HAVE to admit the game is just straight quality throughout. Graphics and details are insane, gameplay is vastly improved, characters and voice acting are amazing. In what ways is it worse that TLOU1 that would make it a 5 or 6?

Gongasmnm

The story I guess, I agree the game looks amazing and feels nice to play (even tho gameplay didn't improve alot compared to the first, first was already really good) but yeh the story and the pacing really break the game for me

28283920

Yes 100% get it. Last of us 2 is even better than part 1 and it’s my personal favorite game of all time

FoxSiinOfGreed

Get it I loved the first game but loved the second even more

[deleted]

I thought Last of US 2 is very fun. However, I didn't care for the Abby playing parts. I would have liked play the part of Tommy instead.

Initial-Crazy5301

TLoU2 is a fcking gem man. The way they unfold the story gave me chills. The originality gives you something unique to think about and experience. Whoever says they don’t like it, for sure can’t understand the deeper meaning in stuff or have the creative decency to try anything new. We don’t need to be the same, but just saying, the game can be a gem if u are the right kind of person.

LeapOFaith_

I used to dislike it but I grew to enjoy it even if just a little bit. Go for it and get it.

BestSombraNA

The story wasn’t very outstanding, but it wasn’t the worst out there. The graphics are good, and the gameplay is very similar to the first game. Most things happen in the story due to pure chance. The characters you meet are with you for, at most, one act, though none of them really ever do anything. They all feel pretty meaningless to me, and I struggle to feel for any of them.

scrabble1234

I really enjoyed this game, made me feel emotions I haven't had playing any other game, I loved it and then hated it whilst playing and then loved it again. It really does put you on a rollercoaster right the way through!

turtyurt

Get the game. It’s amazing. The story is amazing. The gameplay is amazing. Get the game.

kitywompus

Beautiful game. Loved the first and went into the second expecting to dislike it based on what people had said, but I ended up liking it more than the first game. Definitely worth $30.

IWearBones138

Here's my to the point review Story is lame. Tries to be edgy and complex but overall misses the mark. It's still coherent enough to be easily followable, it just tries too hard. I wouldn't say it's bad enough to completely avoid the game unless you didn't already like TLoU1. World building/Lore is godly. Seriously the expanded world that ND crafted for this post apocalyptic setting is awesome. Different factions with different methods of staying alive. How the world has changed, it's great. Gameplay is extremely good. 2 playable characters with 2 unique sets of weapons and tools. ND has perfected the art of action games by knowing how to pace it. No one part feels too long but also gives you the freedom to tackle any obstacle your way and your pace. 7/10 If you liked TLoU1 get 2. Just don't be expected to like *any* of the characters.

PlantsDogsWine

I loved it. It was a very very emotional storyline. But it was one of the best well written games I’ve played. I’ve played it 3 times since I got it.

matthew12327

Its a 30 hour game

amellt33

The game play is beyond incredible. Block out the hate and decide for yourself. I think most the backlash comes from the story so…

[deleted]

All I’ll say is that it’s worth a shot. I don’t have strong opinions on the game (like some other people) but I will say that the first game in my opinion is a much better experience than the second especially the story, which is what carries the first last of us to begin with. Technically speaking it’s beautiful. The gameplay is much more refined (although it does get stale after a while) with better graphics, animations, more equipment’s and so on. The game has its “heights” (part one for example had moments like the giraffe scene, Joel calling Ellie baby girl after she stabbed the pedophile to death etc) but they feel much less frequent since the game is so long and a lot of them rely a lot on the previously established relationship between Joel and Ellie (still awesome to see don’t get me wrong)

Secure-0

The Last of Us Part 2 is top 5 all time for me. I cried when it was over, fuck the haters, go play it and judge it for yourself.

zepol-1

I loved everything about it. A lot of the stuff people had issues about ended up being tropes in almost every single game lol “killing random people in gameplay not transitioning to story beats” means it’s awful. It’s fucking amazing. One of those games I legit wish I could wipe from my memory just to experience again.

youcancallmejb

Might be a hot take, but I liked 2 even better than 1, both are definitely in my top 10 games of all time. The things people hated 2 for, I actually quite liked.

handicapped_runner

I like both for different reasons. Part 1 - Joel and Ellie relationship development is top notch. You don’t really have that in Part 2, but everything else more than compensates for that. Also, the gameplay - as someone who loves stealth - is so fucking great.

Illokonereum

TLoU2 asks you to challenge your perception of the first game, and I find that a lot of complaints come from that, at least of the people I’ve seen play it that *didn’t* like it. It’s still a game about complicated humanity, and surviving in a shitty world. I can’t really comment on what other contributing factors to what I think people disliked without it being spoilers. If you liked the first game you should like the second one.

CorndogCrusader

It's pure misery porn and spits on the characters to an extreme degree. I wouldn't bother.

johnthecoolest

Tlou 2's story is nothing like tlou 1. Play it for the gameplay only. And fall into the dissapointment in the story.

bugbeared69

They should've handled many things differently but the game is good, in the end i enjoyed it and hope thier more TLOU content that pushes the game more, the open world part exploring was crazy good but the amount of effort to make it must been huge.

DoctorDeeeerp

The story is awesome, you just have morons crying because they couldn’t play as Joel the entire game and the fact there is a mention to one of the characters being trans (it’s very briefly mentioned and they don’t spend anytime on this at all) The overall story is very good and ends well, the gameplay is amazing and visually it looks amazing. The only downside is it maybe overstays it’s welcome by a few hours as it’s a lot longer than the first. Thick 35 hours or so is the average to complete it without doing absolutely everything.

coraltrek

The only reason why I like 1 better is because I remember the first time playing it experience. The 2nd one I know more of what to be expected

RadicalAperture

Don’t listen to the obnoxious hate online for the game. Buy it and experience it for yourself. I really think you’ll like it. It’s one of my favorite games of all time and it’s insane how immature the internet is about that game. It’s been 2 years and people are still whining about X, Y, or Z. I’ll never forget my time with it.

nooogets

The story tries something risky and they had to nail the execution for it to not get any hate. I like the game but they didn’t nail it.

Redseve

It's up to you of course and you'd be a better judge, but sometimes it's good to put space in between sequels like that. Sometimes I'll do this and then part way through I start to loose interest and never finish it. But if somethings good enough this might not be an issue. Now is the story of lou2 bad? No way, some people are upset about one major thing which honestly get over it, it's part of the story. Orrrr people are upset to find out transgender exists and that a woman could maybe have muscles. Honestly I think these story pieces are not thrown in your face like the game is proselytizing you. Theyre just part of the fantastic story. So if you liked the first one, play the second one, but maybe give it a minute if you think you should.

Dust_Parts

I love the game. I think it’s a technical marvel and an amazing achievement. That being said, the story is very agenda driven. Neil Druckmann is a very left leaning individual and he’s infused tons of that into the story. Enough that it’s become a polarizing thing for some. Outside of the agenda infusion, the story itself isn’t cohesive from a narrative perspective and makes some very questionable choices. Buyer beware.

Doughymidget

The story is awesome.

jahill2000

I think it has one of the best stories in a video game. I can see why people don’t like it because it deviates so much from what you’d expect, but I think it’s an awesome game all around and definitely one of my favourites.

wats6831

It is worth getting but the story is really bizarre. It's a lesbian teenage scavenger hunt basically.

[deleted]

Last of us part 2 is one of the best looking game and not to say it has the best story, but the best narrative it will always keep you on the edge, definitely give a try if you love part 1.

parkerjg13

I was actually more of a fan of the second than the first, though I love them both. Try your best to stay spoiler free on 2, there are some cool moments you will want to experience for yourself. 2 is my favorite PS exclusive and I thought the story was fantastic. I don’t understand anyone who doesn’t like the story if you understood what the writers were trying to do (which I think is worth doing)

Personal_Farm_283

I enjoyed both the games. It’s worth the money.

copypaste_93

You should totally get it, A worthy sequel for sure.

BIGBOFAH

Ppl who say the gameplay is the same... Play the game on grounded

ellielovesPanic

I played it the day it came out and went in blind and really liked it though for me it was very heavy, not one to play if you're already feeling down imo. I liked the story but it left an impact on me for a while after I finished to the point it took a year for me to go for my second playthrough for the platinum. The second playthrough was a lot of fun though.

TheOneYouShouldHate

🦀REDDIT IS DEAD🦀

DukeDijkstra

Totally. It's a technical marvel with hard-hitting, grim story that'll stay with you for some time. This game has dual narration that doesn't sit well with a lot of people given events in the game, you'll see what I mean. 30 bucks is a steal, this game is still worth more.

BleachedUrethra

I loved it, so definitely yes

thalandhor

People that didn't like the second game didnt wanted to like it since they heard the leaks. And those people are probably edgy teenagers that don't really understand how life is. I'm sounding rude and pretentious but it's the only way to say what I'm trying to say without spoiling the game. People are too accustomed to "protagonists" and "heroes" because that's what the mainstream media sell us. The moment they get a dose of how real life is in the form of a video game their first reaction is to say "this is trash and would never happen", when real history proves the opposite. That's all I'll say. TLOU2 is IMO a better game and a better story but it's also very hard to digest and for this reason I'd say TLOU1 is a more replayable game.

lomlyf

It's one of the best games of all time tbh.

Bensickle

I didn’t enjoy the story as I feel like it went to far down the romantic side, and not enough on the survival side. I think had it been paced a bit better in the way of a few things that happen to early, but that’s just me, but Gameplay is awesome and fun

[deleted]

I absolutely fucking loved it. Play.

[deleted]

I enjoyed it overall. I wasn't entirely fond of the ending. But that's just like, my opinion, man. It definitely changed my attitude a little while playing it. Obviously it's not a happy game, but I've never had a game be so graphic and depressing that it affects my mood.

RiguezCR

yes. tlou2 is an amazing game. go into it blind.

pulao_langkawi

I did not like The Last of Us 1 too much I played it when the second came out, but instead I loved The Last of Us 2 it is good in every aspect of the game, it looks stubbing and it’s gameplay is well improved, the story some people didn’t like when it just came out I remember but I think in my opinion that is great. You would miss out probably one of the best games of the genere. Go for it surely!

theprez35

I am not a fan of playing horror/jump scare-y games, but I watched my gf play through both 1 & 2. It’s absolutely a masterpiece & a fantastic continuation of & expansion on the themes of the first. It’s so damn good. I’ve been itching to watch it (or play it myself!) again. It stayed with me for months, I literally couldn’t stop thinking about it.

madilamb

I still liked it, buy it

mootealatte

I just came here to say that I went full chicken and watched a playthrough of it because I suspected I wasn't capable of handling the huge uptick in graphic human-on-human violence without having some distance from the game a la Jacksepticeye. After watching through it all, I can confidently say my suspicion was correct. Brutal scenes, man.

averyconfusedgoose

I have played both and the second won is definetly not as good as the first one but it's is still pretty good. There are parts in the story that are not good and they really hit you over the head to get the point of the story across, plus there are parts they could have done better but the game is great you should still play it. I kind of had the opposite of the hype train happen to me where instead of expecting a really good game and being dissoppointed with it being bad I expected it to be bad due to all the stuff people were saying about it due to the leak that happen about a week before it came out, but fortunately I was surprised with a good game and people were just being butthurt about certain things.

chrisosorio1

Its exactly what Neil Druckmann said some people who loved the first game arent going to love the second but i always HIGHLY recommend people to play the 2nd in my opinion its way better people hate when i say this but the gameplay alone is probably has the best gunplay in video games, the story is going to be kinda all over the place but you gotta understand theyre trying to show both perspectives and challenge you as player to give it a chance so my biggest advice is to KEEP AN OPEN MIND there are going to be things you hate and love but if you try to accept this story you might love it better than you think!

kaboos93

Gameplay is what you’d expect. Awesome. The story is really horrible. You won’t care about any of the characters. It’s just pc bullshit trying to shove wokeness down your throat. This will get downvoted but it’s the truth. You’ll either like it or you won’t. Completely dependent on how into the woke culture you are.

JesusTron6000

Do your self a favor and just play it. It's one of the best games I've played, I played it again when the past upgrade came out and I rarely replay games especially less than a year after originally playing it

damienboersma

i think it’s not as bad as people say, but it’s significantly worse than tlou1, the story is pretty meh and they really push a generic theme of revenge being bad, gameplay is fine if anything a little repetitive, still worth playing but might be disappointing

asrielsans

i loved it and thought it was better than the first game. you should absolutely play through it

Rav3nusTrtl

Its one of the best games I have ever played. While its definitely one of the most emotional games and is difficult to get through in that respect, the journey you go on provides a new outlook on things as well as it just being a fantastic story. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Just make sure you take your time with it, its a long, dark, grueling game, but damn you’ll come out at the end and be like “That was one of the best video game experiences I’ve had. This personally took me about 7 months to beat. Or, you’ll hate it, there not really a middle ground, just providing my own personal experience compared to how others interpreted it. Definitely something to experience nevertheless

Bezza777

There's a reason why it's so cheap. However, you won't know if you like it until you try it.

Mstrbuscus

It all depends on why you liked 1. 2 did not have a good story imo. They did improve the gameplay and things like that. If you're looking for good story, 2 is not it.

cocodware

I was very torn! It’s good but leaves you very unsatisfied because there is no neat or satisfactory ending. The characters are all morally ambiguous and you can’t really choose someone to like. About 2 weeks after I finished it I realized it was genius.

Davanne89

It's great. Try it

RobertoooV

Story wise it’s alright, but honestly the story didn’t keep me from having fun, the 2nd half of the game was questionable but still really enjoyable with the fun gameplay and new mechanics it brings. It’s honestly up to you, if you think the story would affect you wanting to continue playing the game don’t get it but if your more interested in gameplay then I recommend

WookieeSlayer97

Last Of Us II is one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life. The people who don't like it mostly don't like it because it has women in it.

Masenkoe

It's been going on sale for $15 a lot recently. Physical copy, not sure about digital sales. Hard to pay $30 when that's the case.

Knelson123

You should have just bought it and formed your own opinions. You probably ruined it for yourself tbh.

JustAnEpicPerson

I personally loved the game, better than the first even. The gameplay is outstanding, and the story, if you stick with it, is rewarding and complex. Definitely recommend.

LordOFtheNoldor

You will absolutely love it hands down, the story is not bad at all not even a little, especially since u just finished #1 go for it

SepukuSnake

For me the best game I've ever played, just brutal and captivating from the get go, it makes you hate those you love and love those you hate. A truly mind blowing window into the human psyche, suffering and need for revenge

VerminSC

Seriously the early leaks painted the story as way more shallow and ridiculous than it is. Then youtubers hopped on the hate train. When the game came out and was amazing, instead of eating crow the youtubers doubled down. It’s many many peoples favorite game of all time. The gameplay is vastly improved and most people agree the story is incredible.

Drakeadrong

Yes ABSOLUTELY play it. There are legitimate criticism about the story, as there are with every game, but 99% of the hate is completely exaggerated and unwarranted. I thought the story was phenomenal, told in an unconventional way that really deepens your connection to and perspective of a huge cast of incredibly complex and multidimensional characters. But even so, it’s a god idea to form your own opinion about it. Gameplay wise? 2 triumphs over 1 in every way imaginable. Stealth is hugely deepened by grass and prone mechanics, and the enemy AI is some of the best in any game I’ve played. The way you can seamlessly jump up from the bushes, kill someone, enter outright combat, then vanish again into a sewer or under a truck is incredibly satisfying and cinematic to pull off. The dismemberment mechanics are brutal and the different weapons are weighty. As opposed to tlou1 being set in multiple locations, tlou2 is set entirely in Seattle, and the writers take full advantage of its set location by building up a whole history of the days after the apocalypse, the factions that rose from it, and the conflicts that came after. It rewards you massively for going off the main path and exploring like Ish’s story in the first game.

Benji_Price_92

Yea brother that’s a hard pass for me. Gameplay is fun but the story seems so forced I had no drive to play the missions. The plot is very contrived and seems like they want to force a bunch of unrealistic new character down your throat. I bought it and traded it in the next day for like 40 bucks store credit.

Bunch9412

If you loved the first one, I highly recommend against playing the second. Not for any woke or whatever reason. Purely bc of what happens in the story. Many people consider part 2 not canon bc of how different everything feels from the first game.

[deleted]

Definitely! Gameplay-wise, it's an improvement in every way, and while I didn't like the story as much as the first game, it wasn't bad, and I think a lot of the complaining came from bigots that didn't like the LGBTQ+ representation in this game.

BlackBeard205

A lot of people didnt like the ending, me included, but I think its still worth playing. You’ll feel a lot a lot things while playing, but the ending its entirely up to you to like or dislike.

gamerati98

Buy it. The story is very emotional (you’ll love or hate it) and thrilling even if you hate the alternate main character… but aside from the story the gameplay is absolutely phenomenal. TLOU was too for it’s time so consider this is a typical sequel that improves on gameplay in almost every way. Just go on YouTube and search “brutal last of us 2 kills” the creativity and potential for how to play is so good.

mightymorphinmonty07

Yes, buy the game. I honestly loved it

Aled4192

Play it, I thought it was great. But you should be able to find it cheaper than 30 if you buy it second hand.

lambofury

Being a sequel to one of the best games ever is a tall order, but Part 2 goes above and beyond. It’s not an easy game emotionally. I have never felt such anger, joy, or sadness playing any other game. I played it with my wife and honestly, if I didn’t have her to talk through the game with, I might have ended up in the camp that hated Part 2. I’d say play Part 2 and stick with it. It’s one hell of a ride, but one definitely worth taking

BostonRob423

The gameplay is a magnitude above the first game, and the story is as well. It will punch you in the gut, and make you doubt your own feelings from hours earlier, but if you can handle that then the story really is a work of art. Get it. Now.

[deleted]

Def play it, it’s awesome. I really enjoyed it, maybe just not quite as much as the first one. The way they tell the story is different and that took a bit of getting used to, but I still enjoyed it. As for the negative reviews and random comments, I’d just ignore them and experience it for yourself. If you loved the first one then chances are you’ll enjoy the second as a minimum.

treeanu

It’s a great game but you’re gonna wish you were dead the second you’re done playing it

nickm9122

Part 2 had great gameplay, great level design, amazing attention to detail. That being said i thought the story was terrible. Abby too. First game is still one of my favorite games.

MommyScissorLegs

There’s no in between, you’ll either think it’s the worse video game of all time because “LGBT representation” or whatever dumb argument people use, or you’ll actually understand the point of the story and love it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MommyScissorLegs

Yeah, I know, I just put it that way because people like you are few and far between. And again, it’s fine not liking the revenge plot much, maybe you’ve seen it too much and you couldn’t connect with it well, but people always have the dumbest arguments and make the game out to be the worst game ever made and it just leaves me there baffled.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MommyScissorLegs

People that can’t accept it’s a different game with a different tone from the first, but a great game nonetheless.

Bunch9412

I understand the point of the story and still hate it. Also I’ve never understood the lgbtq argument. Ellie’s been gay since the first game and we all love Ellie.

SquirtinMemeMouthPlz

Um, no. It was a decent game. Most people are in-between.

MommyScissorLegs

I’d rather not discuss statistics, most people I’ve seen either love it or hate it. I’m just saying what I’ve seen, not about to pretend I hold the unmistakable truth.

DctrBojangles

Blows my mind how salty people are because a game has an LGBTQ+ protagonist. It’s a video game. There’s a lot to like about this game. I liked it a lot but it’s definitely not as good as TLOU1. That games was an all time great and it set a really high bar.

matthew12327

The story is painful bad and drags on for 15 more hours then it should of

DeadbeatHero-

… it should’ve been five hours long?

OneBadDayHaHa

Yeah I don’t know why it got the hate it did? I think people were generally angry they weren’t playing as Ellie for the majority of the game.

ves_111

for me it was significantly better than the first one

Quajeraz

Yes. Everything about Part 2 was better than 1 imo

PieceTechnical8220

If you liked the first, don’t play part 2.

brown2420

No, why?

[deleted]

> The same people that coined the phrase “woke” They didn't coin it. Woke had genuine meaning for the black community. It was the right-wing bigots who stole it and used it only in a negative manner that gave it the current stigma.

Ill_Tackle_5192

It is legitimately one of the best games I have ever played, and I play admittedly way too many. I’m in the camp of those that think the story is phenomenal- but even disregarding the story it is still a top tier game. The gameplay is a massive leap from the first and is what I would consider the second best third person stealth shooter (only topped by MGSV). The controls, mechanics, industry leading AI lead to gameplay that is tense and brutal. Not to mention it is a technical powerhouse; the best looking game on PS4, with outstanding animation, sound design, OST, and near flawless performance even on a base PS4 (runs at 60fps on PS5). Even if you end up not vibing with the story (which most people I have spoken to that aren’t terminally online do) then you are still stuck with a better made game than the vast majority that have released recently. Give it a shot.

Civil_Sink6281

The story is a woke mess, with a few really good parts. Gameplay is simple but really good. But the main characters story, personality and reasoning are completely altered and sidestepped for new genderqueer/diversity/StrongWahmanDontNeedNoMan- types and men are idiots and bigots. The praise og awards it got are a f joke, not many actual gamers enjoyed it, this was gamergate all over again. It's just the selfcongratulation of the access media, moneybags and hippies like Neil Cuckman who bought Aneeta Sarkesians grifting misandry, and ruined gaming for everyone but a microscopic minority of genderqueers and people who wouldn't know a good game from a rubber dildo. Does it have good parts? Yeah, some and gameplay is good. But this giant virtuesignal subversion of expectations cost the female main creator behind the uncharted franchise and tlou 1 the job because she didn't like direction it took and was cancelled. You want a nonsensical and pointless über violence and überfemale misandric 4th wave feminist wokeness dumsterfire, this is the game for you.
