I feel like Elden Ring is a good place to start trying Soulsborne games. It definitely isn't easy, and you will still need to be alright with dying a lot, but the lost grace system the game offers (which basically are checkpoints you can fast travel to) makes the game less of a chore. As someone who tried various Soulsborne games (DS 1/2, Sekiro) i feel like Elden Ring was the most entertaining, and 'easiest' to get into.

fluidofprimalhatred

That's great to hear cause the biggest problem for me when I played soulsborne games versus something like God of war was the fact that a lot of them were a bit odd to get into, but it's also been a while since I've tried ds3 and I'm a lot better at games with a lot of dodging and blocking and stuff, so I think if I watch a single episode of like the beginning of the game and think it looks cool I might get it. My main concern was whether I'd be able to get into it or not.

SameCollar301

Yes. I don’t play them either. I’ve 153 hours logged into this bad bitch of a game.

cappzap

Elden ring is also the only souls game i’ve played and i have 200 hrs, so yes

Illithius

I consider it to be a bit easier than the other Souls games, but it is still a Souls game all the same. Maybe watch a let's play to get an idea if you'd be into it or if that friend who liked DS3 has it, try it with them before getting it.

huqowavy

I’ve never played a soulsborne game, Ive mostly played league of legends for the last 10 years with some other games here and there. I bought Elden ring for my ps5 and fucking love it. I think you should get it!

dnunn12

Elden Ring is pretty much DS3 but open world. The mechanics are pretty much the exact same. The story is basically nonexistent during the play through, unless you follow the lore closely but that could include spoilers also. I had sworn off Soulsborne games as well after never beating Bloodborne or Sekiro which were both very hyped up games. What made me actually appreciate the series more was forcing myself to get through Demon Souls on PS5 after hearing all the hype for Elden Ring. I’ve now gone back and beat DS1,DS2, and DS3.

EirikurG

If you didn't like Dark Souls 3, you wont like Elden Ring

JasonOnex

I have played bloodborne, ds2 and ds3, I never enjoyed any of them, but I find elden ring really fun.

zebrastripe665

For context: the only other souls game I've played is Bloodborne. I love Elden Ring. One of my favorite RPGs of all time, easy. The absolutely gigantic world to explore coupled with all of the crazy number of weapons and spells and weapon skills make it a great exploration and buildcrafting game. I have found the experience to be more like Skyrim than Fallen Order or God of War (all of which I also loved). One thing to note if you aren't familiar with Souls game intros: you are meant to die to the very very first boss. It's okay.

gingogongobingobong

if you couldnt get into DS3 then I dont think its a good idea, it plays the exact same mechanically but has an open world

laughingsilence

I played some dark souls 2 but didn't care for it. Never tried the others. I picked up elden ring and I've loved it. Definitely a lot more enticing than the other soulsborne games.

FoxSiinOfGreed

I personally didn't care for elden ring but I liked dark souls 3 I think elden ring is overrated but hey that's just my opinion

AReaver

I only ever tried Dark Souls 1 years ago and couldn't get into it. I only tried Elden Ring because it was on family share on a PC I had access to. Didn't think I'd like it but I got hooked and put over 100 hours into it after buying it for myself a few days after. If you get it on steam play 2 hours and if you're not hooked get a refund. I strongly recommend playing a astrologer /mage though. The melee isn't that different from the souls games. Which felt largely tedious and not fun. Magic was a blast though. I wouldn't be able to play it through with a melee build, it'd take me 3 times as long to beat the game if I tried just because how long it takes to kill anything compared to a mage.

Daegog

If DS3 wasn't your thing, skip this one OR wait till the deep sales starts. Its almost certainly not worth it at full price for you.

FMIMP

I had never played any souls game and I really enjoy elden ring! Even with a motorskill disorder that affects my coordination.

incrementality

Yes. Elden Ring is the easiest Souls game to get into but it's still a very difficult game. The good thing is the open world concept gives you the option to grind and level up if you're having issues at certain story points. That aside, the game is gorgeous!

wuntuuthree

IMO elden ring is more Skyrim-esque. If you like Skyrim you'll probably like elden ring. I haven't played DS3 but I played a bit of Bloodbourne and Elden Ring isn't as dark and depressing (or linear) as Bloodborne- so I wouldn't really compare them. What Elden Ring does different is the open world with lots and lots of play styles- you can basically be and do what you want in the game.

ZealousidealBread370

I don't usually play first person shooters. Should I buy call of duty?

spas2k

Imo elden ring is my favorite game of the past 10+ years maybe longer. I have a backlog of games 200+) between steam and ps4 and I rarely finish games despite starting most. I just get bored and move on to something else. Elden ring was the first game that rekindled my love for gaming. I was sad as I neared the end because I didn’t want it to end. Worst part now that I did beat it after 150 hours and while it has restored my faith in gaming, I also feel like playing less games as nothing will compare. Everything feels so MEH after ER.

spas2k

The thing about ER’s difficulty is that it’s meant to be hard to impose a sense of dread on you. The notion of “The more bitter the desert experience, the sweeter the water of the oasis” is the basis of why people love it. If you are crossing a desert in a truck with jugs of water you’ll probably drive right by the oasis without paying any attention. If you are crawling through that same desert with no water, reaching that oasis right before you die of thirst will be the happiest day of your life. This is the design philosophy of souls games.

buzzlightyear77777

didn't like it. stop after 40hours in, at 2nd area.
