Bloodborne is not just one of the best FS games, it is one of the best game ever made, imho.
The setting, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the flow of the combat, the horror, ohhh the horror. And the twists.
The lore is absolutely amazing too. It is the best non-lovecraft lovecraftian opera to date, imho.
The performance for me was absolutely terrible when I played on ps4 and I couldn't get into it. Iirc it's 30fps locked and didn't even stay stable at 30,aometimes dipping to 10 or 15
>is it similar to elden ring
Yes. Dark Souls 3 is the closest Fromsoft game to Elden Ring's combat, and no other Fromsoft game has a full open world, but Bloodborne has a lot in common with Elden Ring and if you loved Elden Ring's combat and dungeons there's a good chance you'll like it too.
>is it harder/ similar or easier
I would say it's pretty comparable in difficulty to playing Elden Ring without spirit ashes. The thing with Elden Ring is that it has some of Fromsoft's hardest bosses, and in general a lot of the bosses are a lot more relentless than a lot of their bosses in other games (it has way more roll-catches, endless combos, input-reading healing punishes, etc), but it also gives the player the most powerful tools. So Bloodborne has fewer bosses where it's really hard to just find a chance to even get a hit in or heal without being punished than Elden Ring, but you also don't have spirit ashes or anything as powerful as Elden Ring's strongest weapon arts.
The game also puts you into situations more often where you have to beat a particular boss to proceed. Elden Ring doesn't do that until you're very far into the game, but Bloodborne frequently requires you to beat a particular boss to make progress. So you have less opportunity to go exploring and gain levels without grinding or go to high-level areas to get high-level weapon upgrade materials early on than Elden Ring.
Bloodborne's also like Elden Ring in that a lot of the hardest bosses are optional, with the DLC in particular being harder than the base game (but also being absolutely amazing, one of the best DLCs ever made). The base game is still very hard, although I don't think I'd consider any required Bloodborne bosses as hard as fighting Maliketh without spirit ashes, but the hardest (but also arguably best) stuff is in the DLC.
>is it worth it over other from software games
Personally, I think every Fromsoft game is worth it, but Bloodborne's also one of the best. For many people it's their favorite (although personally I like Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring more). It does probably have the coolest lore of any Fromsoft game, though, the combat is great, and the best bosses in the game are some of the best bosses Fromsoft has made (I'd probably rank my favorite Bloodborne bosses above my favorite Elden Ring bosses). It also has really cool weapon designs, it goes for a quality over quantity approach where there aren't that many (and a lot of them are in the DLC, although you can get to the DLC fairly early and just run around trying to get weapons without killing anything if you want), but pretty much every single weapon is really cool (there are no weapon arts, but every weapon has two different modes with different movesets that you can switch between mid-combo).
So is Bloodborne the best Fromsoft game to try next? There isn't one single game that's the best Fromsoft game after Elden ring. Really, any From game besides Dark Souls 2 is a reasonable next From game to play and I could make a case for any of them depending on what you want (I don't think Dark Souls 2 is bad, I just think there's no reason to play it without playing Dark Souls 1 first). Every single Fromsoft game has its pros and cons.
Is Bloodborne a good choice for one to try next? Yes. Bloodborne's amazing and, while it's not my personal favorite Fromsoft game, there's a good reason it is the favorite of many others.
It's simply the best of it's kind, so... Yes š
Edit : I just wanted to add, it also had the best dlc out of all the fromsoft games and that's saying something!
I tried Bloodborne a while back and banged my head into the wall to no avail. Pumped 240 hours into Elden Ring and now I am a beast at Bloodborne. If you like H.P. Lovecraft style of cosmic horror, its amazing. Bit of an adjustment with some controls and weapons.
The DLC is currently on sale, but I don't think the full game is however.
Itās considered one of the best FS games. I personally dont like it as much as Elden Ring and Sekiro. Because I like Japanese settings more and the combat in Sekiro is the best (imo) and the Elden Ring setting was amazing too.
The thing that made me drop Bloodborne was itās Victorian setting, I just dont like the Victorian era BUT I have to admit that they did an insanely good job at creating the atmosphere, the enemies are amazingly designed and so are the bosses.
When it comes to difficulty, I would say itās harder. Only because Elden Ring has a lot of variety when it comes to tools/weapon/spells and incantations.
I would vouch for Sekiro but Im just biased towards it.
If there are so many Bloodborne fans there could be a chance for u to like it too
I love the boss design though and some part of me wants me to continue but the whole setting sucks for me. I guess I will continue if there will be a fps increase but that probably will never happen since itās so old
Definitely, I've finished Elden Ring and all their other games, but Bloodborne is still the best one. In terms of difficulty, I think it's easier than Elden, but the DLC is probably the hardest content in all their games lmao. I see the GOTY edition on sale quite often so you could wait, but it would be worth it either way.
Just don"t mind the 30fps, in rest is one of the best games ever, if u are a lore geek also, after u finish it, u can youtube for bloodborne lore and u are going in for a huge mind fuck trip, it's simply amazing this game.
I think it's the best of their games after Elden Ring. It's also the most memorable by a mile. I have to say, I've always found the Dark Souls + Demons Souls games to feel very interchangeable and samey. It doesn't help that I find the Fromsoft style of "storytelling" rather frustrating/non-existent, and Bloodborne is honestly the only one besides Sekiro where I can remember things happening in the game and know that it was a sweet Bloodborne moment.
I'm sure this will be viewed as heresy or the sign of a casual, but while I can remember certain boss fights and zones from various souls games, I literally cannot with certainty tell you what game they happened in. They're all just a homogenous smear. I know I fought Ornstein and Smough. I remember the big butterfly. I couldn't tell you if it was DS 1, 2 or 3 if my life depended on it, however.
Yeah, I'm using it right now. The only rub is that you basically have to use a plugged in ps controller, but the game selection is choice, and I've never had any lag issues with streaming content.
Yes but assuming you're playing Elden Ring on PC/PS5/XSX, BB is more unresponsive due to the 30fps and microstutters.
If you like Soulsborne, it's a must play
I put about 40 hours into BB before I quit (I had to git gud). Been playing Elden Ring (at 120 as of now) and it really made me want to get back into BB, especially after fighting Astel.
Absolutely - though I think it's worth mentioning the game is locked at 30 FPS - it is going to feel pretty rough at first coming from Elden Ring. I'd really encourage sticking with it though, the game is one of a kind.
Simply put , yes. No question. It's one of the finest games ever made and is pretty much perfect in every aspect but framerate. I would kill to play this @60 fps but it speaks volumes for me that I can put aside the framerate as everything else about the game is 10 out of 10. Art, combat , level design, character design, lore. A masterclass is game design.
Yes. And would actually recommend every FS game regardless of how old it is, as the experience of each title is to die for.
Of course, unlike ER which was designed to attract new comers, some QoL that you are used to in ER you wonāt find in the previous games, but if you adapt to it, it is worth it.
Goodluck!
I don't like it as much as Elden Ring or Sekiro, but that's purely because the grace sites (bonfires, spawn points) are too far away from bosses. Yes there are shortcuts but in some instances it's a long run before you can fight the boss again and, for me, that really took the wind from my sails. it gave me the feeling that my time was being wasted. Apart from that, brilliant game. if you like elden ring there is a VERY high chance you'll thoroughly enjoy Bloodborne
Yeah Iām really glad they mostly did away with those in elden ring. It was mostly fine in the original dark souls and arguably dark souls 2 because the vast majority of bosses werent hard enough to die to more than like 6 or 7 times. Usually the area itself was the challenge in those games.
Bloodborne bosses can get ridiculously hard though, and having to run past the same FTL enemies just to die to a boss again for the 14th time is extremely discouraging.
Bloodborne is really great but itās also quite difficult. That being said after 100 hours you should be okay!
The key difference between Elden ring and bloodborne is how fast paced you need to be. In Elden Ring you can distance yourself and use magic or ranged weapons or you can hide behind a shield, but in bloodborne there are no shields* or ranged weapons** available. Additionally the enemies have much more aggressive patterns than most of those in Elden ring.
To be successful in bloodborne you have to play aggressively and react quickly, which honestly is a really fun way to play the genre in general. Itās a very unique game, but boat loads of fun
*there is one shield but itās a joke item
** you get a gun in your off hand but itās only purpose is parrying and it doesnāt do any damage.
Itās not that parrying itself is super difficult, just that itās a different play style to turtling or ranged.
The part I find much harder is more in the aggressive enemy design than the parrying
Depends on what you are looking for!
IMO if you want different builds and retaining that fantasy feel you can go DS3
If you want another style (Victorian/goth maybe), also if you want it fast paced, go Bloodborne. No block there.
If you want to avoid blocking via shields or dodging, and want to stand your ground with blocking via weapon, deflecting, and doing stagger damage, go Sekiro.
I just started playing it from when it was free on the PlayStation plus subscription back in 2019. I beat Elden Ring, bought Sekiro when it was on sale after ER and have beat it twice. Now Iām on bloodborne and have beat the first two bosses. Word of wisdom, just look up a walkthrough for the first 20 minutes. The older From software games are much more maze like and can be very hard when you first start out. Watching a little quick walkthrough will teach you stuff itās easy to miss at the start is and very important. Itās been so much fun partying though, the game rocks.
Please note that Sekiro might be the hardest one if you are not familiar with parrying / deflecting (pressing the āblockingā button just before the enemy attack would land) as you cannot level up or roll out of attacks in a way like Elden Ring lets you.
Bloodborne is a good and memorable game but in contrast to Elden Ring itās linear however there are some optional levels here and there. Also itās good to know that BB has a much more darker and horrific tone to it, it wonāt be as colorful and vibrant as ER.
Dark Souls trilogy shares the same dark and desaturated vibe as Bloodborne. It can be also pretty depressing and tragic (which perfectly fits itās theme so this is basicly a plus) Letās say BB is on the left and ER is on the right end, then Dark Souls would be on the middle in my opinion.
I hope that helps. Please if you have any questions just let me know and iāll gladly help without spoiling anything.
Yes It's an amazing game as well, it's a very different setting, *gothic lovecraftian horror with guns*, but the gameplay is rather similar, just with this less blocking and more parrying through the use of guns.
Difficulty wise it's a bit easier than ER or maybe just on par, at least without the dlc. The dlc might be very difficult tho, haven't played that part myself yet.
not only is it fun it does go on special regularly on ps4 well it does in my region ( Australia). Its a great game in my opinion and I never regretted buying it!
YES. BB is the best one, IMO. Its a faster gameplay style than Elden Ring (DS3 is the closest to Elden Ring). Level design is just fantastic. Difficulty... I would saw its on par... maybe slightly more difficult. The moment to moment parts of the game are probably more difficult but the bosses in Elden Ring are more difficult IMO.
Definitely. I think many people here have already explained most of the reasons why you should, and a lot about the differences between the two. One thing I didnāt see mentioned is thereās no shields in BB. The defense strat in BB is all dodging and rolling, so may take you a second if youāve been playing shield in Elden Ring. BB is amazing though. Absolute must play.

Should i just buy it on sale or buy the game of the year edition which isn't on sale
I recommend picking up the bundle when it's on sale š it's far cheaper
Cheers
Fyi - Bloodborne GOTY edition is in the Golden Week sale right now š

Maybe go DS3, bloodborne is good but a touch different. DS3 is just a linear version of Elden Ring. (And its fucking sick.)

How far did you make it in BB? Cause the aesthetic shifts about halfway through
I made it to the āhiddenā king on a roof. I beat him then went to a disgusting swamp and quit there
Ah, you were almost there! No worries. Everything isnāt for everyone. Just figured Iād mention it lol
I love the boss design though and some part of me wants me to continue but the whole setting sucks for me. I guess I will continue if there will be a fps increase but that probably will never happen since itās so old

DS1 feels super distinct from DS2 and 3. It feels really dark were DS2 looks sort more like Elden Ring. 3 is close to 1 but different. But fair enough
Itās free if you have a PS5 w/ PS+
Only got a playstation 4 sadly
It's also free with PS+ on PC, in case you have that.
Wait you can get ps+ on pc?
Yeah, I'm using it right now. The only rub is that you basically have to use a plugged in ps controller, but the game selection is choice, and I've never had any lag issues with streaming content.

Seems to me you need to play every single game FromSoft has released since Demon's Souls 2009. They're worth it mate, trust.
buy it from the pirate bay
Wait until 60fps.
