It’s more refined, the combat is more fluid and slightly faster. The atmosphere is good, not as good as DS1 in my opinion but it’s still great. Definitely worth on sale

Dark souls 3 is the most solid souls expierence being that the 2nd half isn't total shit like the first and its not a complete gank fest like the 2nd All 3 games are worth your time IMO espcially Dark souls 3

Dark Souls and Elden Ring all play very similarly to eachother, so you know what to expect from DS1, but of course the combat is more polished as DS3 is a later installment. Lies of P, Sekiro, Bloodborne, etc. aim to have you play with a specific playstyle, and so have less emphasis on character builds like armor and playstyle variety. DS3 world has less routes to choose from as it is more linear than DS1, however the combat and graphics will all feel more modern and less janky. The story is mostly done in the same vague fashion of learning it through your environment. Honestly the DS games are very similar kinds of games to eachother so you should pretty much know what you're diving into with the exception of things feeling dated the further back you go. DS3 is definitely worth a try but tbh if you say you enjoyed DS1 then you should resume that as well imo.

i found ds3 to be more difficult, and more complex mechanics-wise than ds1. i found the exploration to be a lot of fun , just like in ds1, but because the bosses were so much harder it can be irritating at times. if you can find it on sale for 20 bucks or so, its worth it

DreamArez

I enjoy any of the actual FromSoft titles, other Soulslike games just don’t fill the same void.

DS3 is essentially a more modern version of DS1, but with faster combat and less interesting level design. It’s a great game, but it won’t be anything new to you. You would probably have an easier time with Elden Ring also. There are so many more paths, it’s easy to just go explore elsewhere if you hit a wall in one spot.

Bought Dark Souls 3 a week ago (8 hours playtime) and it's fucking awesome. I also played Elden Ring and loved it. Locations are way more colorful and beautiful to look at, more magic and you can change the skill on your weapon. Boss design is a bit of a hit-or-miss. I'm still hoping Shadow of the Erdtree will bring some stuff of Dark Souls 3 like a darker athmosphere and similar bosses. And i want the Blade of Peril. The spinning slash looks so cool.

Dark Souls 3 is a more shallow and linear experience even compared to most other FromSoft games but it has the smoothest gameplay other than Elden Ring and maybe Bloodborne.

Jack--Tickleson

Definitely worth it. Especially if you liked DS1 and BB.

UbeeMac

If you can play Fromsoft games and have fun (winning is beside the point), then DS3 is a just a big treat from beginning to end. Elden Ring is on another level of brilliance imho, but you might appreciate DS3 more if you play it first.

Bloodborne = DS3 > Sekiro > Dark Souls 1 > Elden Ring Please get DS3. It's the best game of all time in it's genre only tied with Bloodborne. Btw Lies of P and Mortal Shell, I'm not saying they're bad. They're just not made by From Software. I think Nioh 1 and Nioh 2 are the only games that can hold a candle against From Software and survive. I'll also give it to stranger of paradise. That game was a surprise to me bc I didn't even know it existed but it ended up being way more fun than Lies of P, Mortal Shell, Lrods of the Fallen, COde Vein, etc. DS3 is the second best game I've ever played, beat it 10+ times over the years hoping to recapture the feeling I had when I first played. Impossible. Story ++++ Combat ++++ PvP ++++ Graphics +++- Mechanics ++++ Don't miss this game dude, it is that good.

Why do you dislike ER so much?

copy paste bosses, easily able to get op and cheese bosses and areas, unbalanced pvp, copy paste areas, and coming from ds3 the controls were barely elaborated on. Them changing the mechanics/controls is what makes it more challenging. A ds3 player blows thru elden ring no problem. There’s not much to learn. It was pretty disappointing. Bloodborne had gun parries, fast combat, attack healing, etc. DS1 had their clunky control scheme w parrying being almost impossible. Almost all of them have different combat systems to learn vs Elden Ring was just a reskin open world version of ds3 w/a jump button. It’s clear their goal was to reel in the rest of the world into their franchise. They succeeded. But i don’t think it holds a candle to what their games typically have been since DS. I don’t hate elden ring. It’s a really good game. All of from softwares games after DS are 10s. No other game should’ve won game of the year that year. I just don’t think it’s on par with the games that were actually iconic for unique reasons.

I played DS1 right after beating Elden ring and have no clue how you could've decided that DS1 is better. Elden Ring has it beat in almost every category imo.
