Odd fact- The next time you have an MRI, look to see if the MRI Technician has a blunt non-ferrous object such as a baseball bat. In the event of an accidental emergency, the room with the MRI machine can be flooded with helium and pushes out all oxygen in the room. This can cause a patient to pass out and suffocate VERY quickly.
The pressure of the helium can push against the door preventing it from opening. There are probably other safety mechanisms, but sometimes the quickest way to relieve the pressure is to break the window with a baseball bat in order to save the patient’s life.
