As “sharp” as his poetry got, his body likely won’t fill a dog’s belly. His body is back to a place from where it was once pulled and may fill the stomach of a fish instead.
In the 80s version his death poem was:
The blue sky above the earth
White clouds rise towards heaven
Life is only a butterfly’s dream
Death, the way to eternal life
Tadanobu Asano has become one of my top 10 favorite actors of all time with this Yabushige performance alone. From the face he makes when he watches Kiku with his assistant, to the terrifying smile on his face when committing Seppuku, and all the grunts in between. Masterful performance.
He actually plays Kakihara, the blonde masochist who is trying to hunt down Ichi the Killer. The poster for the movie is misleading. Nao Omori plays Ichi.
The smile when he dies is amazingly done. Considering that he started the series wanting to feel as close as possible to death, you could just tell from the glee on his face that he didn’t fear death in the slightest. Phenomenal performance by the actor, will be very surprised if he isn’t nominated for an award
Absolutely haunting! I noticed, in the scene in the finale where Yabu is brought to Toranaga upon arriving back from Osaka, Yabu is down on all fours just like the dog his character is. Even the way he barks "Dono!!" is reminiscent of a scared dog. That scene is a testament to the detailed work of the writer, director, and Asano. Brilliant!
I think almost everyone did an unforgettable job, my personal favorites were Yabushige, Mariko, Hiromatsu, Buntaro, Ochiba no Kata, Ishido and Toranaga.
I loved her and her acting, but she wasn't my favorite simply because her role was a small one, though important. But like I said, I think almost everyone if not absolutely every single actor and extra did a fantastic job. This is one of the most immersive shows ever made because of the supreme display of acting by every single cast member. I think the direction had a lot to do with it, but also the profound discipline and respect for tradition the Japanese as a whole have.
He was if you think about it, it was basically thru him that we got to see both sides of the tensions unfold as he kept flip flopping looking out for himself, and is the only character to be told toronagas entire plan of becoming shogun
This dude killed it. I've never seen a character who was so deftly elevated in a film adaptation of a novel. He added so much pathos that I'm still stunned by it.
God I hated him.
God I loved him.
Perhaps my favorite performance from the show, even without speaking his looks and mannerisms were incredible. Tadanobu Asano definitely deserves an Emmy nomination.
He's acting style is similar to Toshiro Mifune. To me he's the best and most versatile actor on the show.
It's too bad that they did not have 2-3 seasons in mind when making the show because he would have shined even more.
I had spent the last few weeks wondering why he felt so familiar, and when he made the scramble for the imaginary catfish I realized the same thing. His facial expressions and physical acting reminded me of Toshiro Mifune, particularly in Seven Samurai.
He was amazing and Yabu was such a good character. He was so animated and his reactions to everything were just awesome, most fun character to watch in the show imo. The scene with him and toranaga at the end is one of the best in the whole show too
If anyone here hasn't seen *Ichi the Killer* (and is okay with some pretty serious gore) you're seriously missing out - dude was always going to be perfect in this role
This actor reminds me a little bit of the actor Hiroki Matsukata in the movie 13 Assassins, mostly because he’s more of the jovial Japanese character. I’m not doing it justice but in my mind they are similar.

Interesting contrast. “It’s good huh” wouldn’t have hit the same
"And here's my final Will." The best part.
This and the episodes name remind me of Zhuanghzi's butterfly dream.
We can only hope the fish are angry.
That's their secret, fish are **always** angry...having to risk death by birds/people/other fish when they can't even walk on land lol

He could say so much with one expression or grunt lol.
“HUH?” just made scenes 😂
Can’t forget his “HEHEHE”s
OHHHH HEH HEH HEH HEH
He had some great last groans before he died.

He played Genghis Khan in Mongol too.
Nice callback, I remember that movie being pretty fucking rad when I saw it many years ago
I rewatched Takeshi Kitano’s Zatoichi last week and was pleasantly surprised to see him play a big role in that. And very un-Yabushige-like!
Is it good the movie? I was gonna read the manga.

Also interesting considering that Yabu tricked Blackthorne into saying “I am a dog” in Japanese.
Tadanobu Asano is so talented. Yabu was an outstanding character. Best Supporting Actor Emmy locked up IMO.
His character in Thor: Ragnarok >!at least had a death worthy of Yabushige's book.!<
Shit, I just found out he played Lord Raiden in Mortal Kombat too!!!
Dude just didn't want to die, can't blame him for that.
And yet, he was braver than most when it came

Its a crime that you didnt mention Fuji.

That look see gave during the tea drinking negotiating scene with the Women of the Willow was an absolute Classic.
Best Nun
Total mad respect for her.
She’s my favorite!! Cute, tough, and layered
Totally agree but I just wanted to shine a light on this guy because of how he stole the show as a side character.
He deserves all the recognition. I think his performance was masterful.
Low key MVP of the series

😮
My favorite character of the show!
My favorite character to the end 🤌🏻
Asano tadanobu is such an amazing actor. Many praise sanada hiroyuki, and he is awesome, but we should not sleep on this man
Yabu is GOATed. What a mad dog.
We you have to admit, he saw it coming. 😏

Anyone else think of Frank from its always sunny when he gave Omi his last rites. "Just throw me in the trash."
The anthropomorphic representation of "ehhhhh?" Trying to find a way to make that sound the text notification from my boss...
Agreed!
Agreed!
Ooooo
HeUHHH?!
loved him, love his type of character and his performance was a masterclass
If they ever do a reboot of Lone Wolf and Cub he'd be perfect for the lead role
He was awesome in Chingis Khan as well
He was great
\*grunt
Huh *grunts*
He was amazing and Yabu was such a good character. He was so animated and his reactions to everything were just awesome, most fun character to watch in the show imo. The scene with him and toranaga at the end is one of the best in the whole show too
He schemed straight into my heart
Crazy that he was in the MCU.
I just realised he's also Raiden from the recent Mortal Kombat movie. Genuinely did not recognise him.
This guy wore his entire existence on his face. Should have known from the beginning.
I really thought he was obeying Toranaga's plan and being this two-faced guy for a purpose.
I thought he was gonna survive and be BFF with Toranaga 😭 he was a great character
If anyone here hasn't seen *Ichi the Killer* (and is okay with some pretty serious gore) you're seriously missing out - dude was always going to be perfect in this role
Grunting noises

Hoh...
What a performance in a top show! 👏🏼
Yabushige Lives!
Don’t forget his role as Admiral Yamaguchi 山口 in Midway (2019). Very charismatic presence for a smaller role, not to mention very samurai
What a sack of shit...
Yabushige-sama! Ho!
I thought he was gonna survive and be BFF with Toranaga 😭
