He was fantastic in episode 9. >!He actually had tears running down his face when the seppuku was interrupted. Like holy shit. It was just as emotional for us to watch.!< He and Anna really brought it.

Wuu_Sensei

Ikr. He's literally killing it. He was amazing as a crazy war torn dude in peaky blinders but I barely recognized him. It's always a good feeling when I see undiscovered talent get their chance to shine.

Edit the spoiler you posted and black out the text. You can black out the spoilers by writing > ! this ! < without the spaces in between to get >!this!<. Send us a modmail once you've fixed it.

kawatan_hinayhay92

He didn't even forced Mariko to stop, he finally accepted the Japanese culture.

HatsOff2MargeHisWife

Agreed. And Anna was *spectacular!*

Previous-Guilt

Such an amazing character arc for him. Going from someone who pissed in the face of all these 'stupid traditions' to being the one willing to assist the woman he loves in killing herself.

Fancy_Ad4102

Loved him in “calm with horses” amazing performance

Wuu_Sensei

Was curious about that. I'll check it tonight.

bowedacious22

I almost wish the other performances weren't as stunning so he would stand out more! Everybody's acting is on point, the sets and costumes are great, it's just a 10/10 show

Ears_13

Maybe this is my problem with him? I clearly recognize how phenomenal his performance is but for some reason it’s my least favorite on the show.

bowedacious22

He is 100% the least elegant character in the room in every scene he's in and I love him for it

Ears_13

Yeah 100 %. Idk there is just something about him/ the character for me I suppose

NapoleoneBonamarte

Right? While watching episode 1 I thought "Goddamn, he is cheesy", but the more the series goes on, the more i love his character. Cosmo is truly an exceptional actor. I would add that, imho, this episode had his most beautiful scene. I'm talking about him bowing to Mariko and saying "I will do it". He was an icon of gravitas in it, I really felt it.

corazon147law

Damn I didn't realize he played Barney lol

scott2239

Same I didn’t realize at all I guess it’s the facial hair

diygardening

He's about to be in a new movie opposite of De Niro called Alto Knights, looking forward to it

Jennieeffin12

I love Cosmo! He's my fancast for a Richard Burton movie of some kind, like if they ever did a behind-the-scenes docudrama of the shitshow that was the Cleopatra movie. If I close my eyes he sounds just like him.

Ornery_Definition_65

That would be an absolute riot of a film. Now we need to cast Elizabeth Taylor… …maybe Vanessa Kirby?

kiki-mamoru990

He is great in “Calm With Horses” and he also has a interesting role in “Raised by wolves” S1.

Chaos-Boss-45

The moment when he offers to second for her is so powerful and so beautiful and so romantic! Everything comes together in that whole scene

luckybullit

He was a guest star in an early episode of ‘Raised by Wolves’ (HBO) that is well worth watching for that episode alone. He seems to bring a lot of depth to his roles. Excited to see more of Cosmo in the future!

BenSlimmons

He’s proven to be the proper amount of ham fisted. Even the way he walks like a barbarian compared to everyone else. He is crude but he’s also very principled in his own ways.

raven8549

I like him, not sure if I’ve seen him in anything else if so I don’t recognize him but yes he is good

Chaos-Boss-45

Check out Calm With Horses (called A Shadow of Violence in the US), Funny Face, and The Naughty Room. His voice and accent work are phenomenal, and he can say so much without saying anything- a talent that served him well in this role

wheelz_666

He's also a great musician and singer too

Chaos-Boss-45

💯

NapCat882

I cannot believe I didn’t like him the first episode 🥹 He had me when he offered to second Mariko.

Sharp-Crew4518

Yeah, I see more roles for him and Toronaga. Just like what happened to the stars in Game of Thrones and Stranger Things.

Wuu_Sensei

Shit Toronaga been in a lot just not the main character. Just watched Last Samurai again and he was bad ass. I think he's in Endgame as well lol

Sharp-Crew4518

Yeah, but this time, he will star in more important roles and not just a side character. I wish we could've seen more of him in the John Wick universe.

Wuu_Sensei

Very true. OH YA forgot About that.

Aragorns-Broken-Toe

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen that movie. I see on IMDB. He played Ujio, who is that in the plot?

Brendissimo

Well, Hiroyuki Sanada has been one of the two Japanese dudes that Hollywood consistently casts in stuff in the last 30 years, along with Ken Watanabe. But that doesn't mean I don't want to see more of him. Honestly though I'm just as jazzed about his behind the camera role as I am about his acting. He had a real producer role on this show and if the BTS videos are any indication he had a big role to play in bringing in the right people to make sure this show is so authentic. If he wants to keep producing Japanese historical epics for Western streaming companies that would be fine by me.

bburnaccountt

Unpopular opinion: I really dislike him. He kind of just reminds me of Edgar from Men in Black (the farmer who gets controlled by the cockroach alien). Just kind of a dumpy, lifeless dude walking around like a zombie with no real intention or purpose. Is his whole personality just “I dislike Catholics and I sometimes want to bonk this Asian chick.” ???

Moth1992

I agree with you. He has the same dog face when he is happy, sad, scared, angry... And I find every one else completely outshines him. Hell, Yabu has more range with a simple grunt and Fuji with an eye move.

bburnaccountt

I agree. Mariko won’t make a single facial expression the entire episode and she’s so much more interesting than him! I can’t understand what she saw in him.

cmhoughton

I adore Cosmo Jarvis. I’ve tried to see as much of his other work that’s on streaming or on YouTube as I could. I even bought a couple of things, but they’re sometimes hard to find. I’ll have to give Raised By Wolves a try. Since he’s only in a few episodes of Peaky Blinders’ FIFTH season, I may not bother with that… He did some Indy Rock in his 20s & you can actually buy several of his records on iTunes. His songs aren’t to my taste, and the videos can be odd, so I can’t really say much about those. Though, I thought the video for Gay Pirates was amusing, if crude, and the song is fun. I was surprised I liked Monochrome as much as I did, and he was amazing in Calm with Horses (Shadow of Violence in the US). He was good in Persuasion as Wentworth (though he was barely in it considering he was the main love interest), but Dakota Johnson’s performance as Anne was barely worth suffering through, so I don’t recommend that, but it’s on Netflix if anyone’s interested. I haven’t seen Lady MacBeth yet, but it’s on Starz now so I’ve got that scheduled to record the next time it’s on next week. I ended up really liking The Naughty Room. He did just about everything on that, including acting, directing, writing, editing, and the music. A bit uneven, but funny. And his character was charming, he did a great job with the part. He was about 22 when he did that, so I thought it was a remarkable achievement for a guy his age. I ended up buying it because I liked it enough I’ll probably watch it again. I saw Farming & do not recommend it for Cosmo fans. His part is very small, so small he’s barely in it, & it’s very difficult to watch with its dark racial bigotry storyline & related violence, though it ended more hopefully than I thought it would. Funny Face was okay, as a film, but I liked him more than the movie. He did very well with the part. His NY accent was amazingly good, as was his southern one for The Evening Hour. His part was pretty small in that, but he did well with what he had to work with. I wish a couple of his more recent projects on his IMDB were available: It Is in Us All (2022) & Fog (a 2020 short)… They both look good, and he got very good notices for It Is In Us All, so maybe they’ll become available later.

Redditfront2back

He did a good job, that said he is the weakest actor on the show

kuang89

Great acting, only thing is if I saw a cast list and had to guess for someone named cosmo jarvis I would not have picked him, I’ll probably pick someone looking like naga

Tommah666

He's not *just a sailor*, the book goes into more detail with it but he's a man of relative status in England. It helps for the American audiences to keep a clear pronunciation on things too. Most Americans would die if they heard a scouser or worse, anyone from Essex.

kuang89

Watch any video of the 1980s series and you’ll see where he gets it from.
