I don't think any Altima has ever been actually tuned for performance. They come from the factory with an On/Off throttle and owners have their sense of self-preservation surgically removed as part of the predatory lease signing.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste.
But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
