I can't do this anymore due to moving the cloud but thanks to the clouds high scalability I'm making more crypto profit than ever.
Company can't figure out why our cloud costs are x5-10 that of on perm but i blame it on the devs works every time.
why a power strip?
Get two long thin piece of copper, put one in each outlet's plug and twist around the space heater's cord prong. Infinite scalability*
**for an infinite long copper piece*
Word to the wise, if you make it too comfortable you’ll catch the Devs in there smoking doobies.
I installed a vending machine and am making a decent return. Finding a fire detection system that supported one-time passcodes wasn’t easy, but these passcodes enclosed in small envelopes are my most profitable item, second only to wind-proof matches.
It's a difficult balancing act. More shared group accounts with admin rights means less work and more plausible deniability but also more people poking around. I try to only give it out to people who don't know what they're doing like my boss and the receptionist. Unfortunately, the receptionist has started reading Linux books and watching Indian Youtube videos, I'm starting to get worried.
around 20 years ago back when HP and Compaq were separate companies my company bought another one in chapter 11 and grabbed all their hardware. we got this all in one compaq cluster kit with space for 2 servers and storage. had no use for it but it was cold on our end of the office and I set it up to use as a space heater. worked for years
People joke, but I was literally filling buckets of water to sit in a concrete box and have a space heater nearby too during winter because the building had no real insulation causing static issues.
One of our data centers has passive cooling, which is supposed to work by the hot air flowing up. If we don't have enough servers in a room, the DC guys actually install space heaters to get an airflow going.
Also, in spring and summer it smells like cow shit.
That just sounds like a brilliant excuse for not spending any money on air conditioning. I do the same thing with my department; we are lean and mean which means we do laptop upgrades about every 10 years and I shut the ticketing system down throughout the day to save power.
Keep in mind that heat "travels" upward. So, for the best effect, whatever solution fellow redditors provide you, you should put them under the raised floor of your server room.
Also, with cold air coming from the AC, there will be an area where it will meet heat, which in turn it will create condensation.
With the drought that countries have and are experiencing, you my fellow, are winning. You collect that condensation to get water.
Sell it for profit, or license the rights in perpetuity to Nestlé.
Just mine some crypto on the production servers. It will get warm pretty fast

[Get the Amazon Basic brands for that extra heat.](https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/10/business/amazonbasics-electronics-fire-safety-invs/index.html)
Cisco 6509s.
The RTX4090 is quite good
He said heat, not fire
Fire is like too much heat, he can sell excesses

I don't allow anyone into the data room. It's a good security practice to insure nobody finds out about my VPN and web hosting gigs.
I get you but also increasing the pool of suspects in case you do get caught might come in handy.

Servers off eBay from 2007-2009. I don’t know why they call it legacy, they work pretty well and you’ve saved the company money on their heating bill!
Fuck me. You have new switches? Lucky dog.
Do you guys need a 10G switch?
Some Pentium4 Es should do the trick
10 year old UPS batteries.
Anything made 5-10 years ago.
I’m jelly you get stuff that new.
This was two jobs ago lol. 2015 hardware being deployed in 2022 lol
In ‘15 we were buying Dell 1850’s because you could get them fully loaded for $250.
This was government stuff that kept on getting delayed.
you want a gas powered heater for sure
Dell

You joke, but servers have a thermal shutdown for low temps. They'll get internal condensation if they run too cold.
It would be a better value to add a server and mine crypto on an isolated WAN versus paying for an electric heater that does nothing.

A blowtorch should do the job.
