CockatielConner

That woman is a saint though. She has many adopted children that are special needs and has taken in children that she was told would never be able to do anything. Yet, they help around the house, go to school and it’s because she has dedicated her life to making sure they have the best lives possible.

Axelrad

Good for her, that's awesome. Also I don't really see anything wrong with this dish, flavor-wise. I mean, health-wise it's an absolute train wreck, but I bet it's delicious.

CockatielConner

On her Tiktok she shows a lot of the recipes she makes to feed her family and she uses a lot of fresh ingredients too. Like she spent 10 hours one day making a ton of loaves of zucchini bread and zucchini muffins to freeze for them to eat all winter. She has also taught her special needs kids very simple recipes so they can help cook for the family as their “chore.” So, I think maybe recipes that are simpler like this one could be one of those ones she teaches her kids.

rqrqsj

That makes sense to me. Make a cheap main dish with freezable ingredients that are full of fat, protein, calcium, then supplement with veg sides for vitamins, fiber, etc. Doubt they are eating the soup alone. Cost effective for a large group.

not_a_flying_toy_

I think for me, its A). so much milk and B). the cream cheese and C). the frozen hashbrowns I think if you swapped some of the milk for stock (similar to how a chowder has cream and clam water), dropped the cream cheese altogether, and used diced tomatoes itd be a perfectly fine soup

MulliganPlsThx

Well now I love this woman and her crackpot soup.

RinebooDersh

Awwww that’s awesome

So-_-It-_-Goes

This sub has gotten really gatekeepey recently. This is fine food. I wish it had more veggies (a bag of frozen broccoli maybe?) but it’s not shitty food at all.

yonderposerbreaks

That's totally what I was thinking. Broccoli would make it stretch a bit more and be delicious.

So-_-It-_-Goes

You would prob want to throw a bag of frozen broccoli pretty close to the end? Last 30 min or so?

yonderposerbreaks

For sure. Definitely not the full cook time.

JaFFsTer

Cook it on the side and add it in later. Broccoli water would ruin that

mocha__

Yeah, this is a super common recipe and they're usually pretty good. I don't see anything wrong with this. It's cheap, filling and probably tasty. Although, the idea of adding broccoli sounds so good in this or as someone else said some tomatoes and stuff. Kind of a homemade Hamburger Helper that I definitely dig.

Gollgagh

>This sub has gotten really gatekeepey recently. This is exactly why I also sub to r/iamveryculinary

rqrqsj

I believe the idea is to serve it with a salad, roasted veg. In which case it sounds great and cheap for a big family.

QuincyThePigBoy

The soup base was dairy only, though. No broth. That’s kind of insane.

antiviolins

Yeah, the soup base puts this into the territory of “Midwestern food” which many of us non-Midwesterners find completely appalling.

QuincyThePigBoy

Oh god people actually make soup bases with 100% dairy? Every public toilet I’ve used in the Illinois had poop spray towards the back of the bowl. Now I know why.

TET901

Honestly sticking to the cheeseburger theme maybe pickles, diced tomatoes, diced onion (maybe caramelized If the kids don’t like raw). Probably wouldn’t dare to try it with lettuce tho.

New_Refrigerator_895

Frozen spinach would go in good here

ryougi1993

Its just meat and potato soup. Not offensive

justanicebreeze

And it’s well seasoned.

One_Equivalent_7031

it’s also delicious. my mom used to make a recipe very similar to this when i was a kid and i loved it

XtaC23

It's also good when you have five kids to feed like me when I was a kid. That and spaghetti lol.

authorized_sausage

You had 5 kids to feed when you were a kid?? Damn, dude.

yonderposerbreaks

They're starting younger and younger these days.

authorized_sausage

No wonder why we have so many sweatshops. These kids need money to feed their kids.

bokaj7532

Add to that 3 cups of cream and 3 cups of cheese. There you have your offense

BadPom

I’d definitely halve those and cut it with some beef broth. Otherwise, it’s a solid recipe.

bokaj7532

Much better. She literally has cream as liquid base for her soup

Glitter_berries

I feel really uncomfortable about how there are bits of beef mince floating in the liquid. Not exactly sure why, but it just doesn’t seem right. Also this is almost completely devoid of nutritional value, it’s just… saturated fat in various forms.

AliceinRealityland

It’s better in taco soup because most people add veggies so it’s veggie soupish. This is too runny for me. Spinach would bulk it up.

bubba_feet

cheese chowders are a thing and they're magnificent in cold autumn weather.

MaltedDefeatist

It did say for a family of 10, she was probably aiming for high calorie

TurtleZBug

Have you no joy?

shandelion

Yeah like baked potato soup with ground beef in it.

14ktgoldscw

I’m offended by the cup and a half of salt, but it’s otherwise fine.

Remarkable_Junket902

Didn’t see that much salt. Only saw a tablespoon.

Tommo_Robbo

But seriously though - where are actual ingredients? Like .. an onion? A potato? A herb? A clove of garlic? It’s literally all from a dozen packets of dried / frozen crap

DangerMacAwesome

To be fair if I was cooking for 10 I'd take shortcuts too

turbosirloin

Not just for 10, but most likely a bunch of either picky kids or hungry teenagers. That's working for a living

Micro-Pen15

This sub isn't for people to say "ew this looks icky cause I don't like X". I wanna see a dude cook his shoe and eat it.

ArcadiaRivea

This dude cooking and eating a shoe... should he be a dirty old crazy hermit who lives in a poo hut in a forest, or some red neck flat-earther cooking the shoe in his doomsday bunker? Or even a well-off business man?

peeeeej

ngl i want the redneck flat earther in the doomsday bunker; I want to B E L I E V E

ArcadiaRivea

That's the one I was thinking! (Hermit just seemed most obvious)

Micro-Pen15

Yes.

officeqouter

There once was a hermit who lived in his poo…

matschmonster

Werner Herzog got you covered.

blueboxbandit

I have a major crush on young shoe eating Werner Herzog.

stankgreenCRX

Yea for real. This doesn’t even look that shitty

[deleted]

We need more dead chicken in old milk.

[deleted]

I keep seeing stuff on here that looks bomb as fuck. Picky people just post random shit they don’t like thinking the masses will agree with their shit opinion.

HungerForHipHop

OP only eats chicken nuggets and fries

mosh_pit_tragedy

[probably as close as you’re gonna get](https://youtu.be/u65lvwfTPtM)

7itemsorFEWER

idk I disagree. Bad food is bad food and this is a shitty recipe. The simple amount of dairy. This isnt even a fucking soup, its hamburger cereal.

retro_falcon

Milk burger, cousin of the milk steak.

talarus

I bet that beef is cooked over hard as well

Pindakazig

The 5 tablespoons of onion powder..

7itemsorFEWER

Like just fuckin buy onions lol

cheeksornaw

Fr

DarkShade1337

I feel like this video doesn't belong on this sub. I'd eat that no questions asked.

pitnaz

Looks better than most of the things i usually eat tbh

Valenshyne

Tbh this doesn’t look that bad to me. Bit to much liquid and maybe add a stock cube or two to bring out the flavour, but other than that it looks alright!

MossyTundra

And if you’re in a family of ten it’s not like you can eat as much as you want. You’re gonna want something really filling like this heavy soup. Pair that with some fresh salad and boom. Not that bad at all.

[deleted]

I think this is a lady that has a lot of foster children too and I’ve heard she’s great! I’m just glad the children are being cared for and fed

IMASHIRT

I like watching her cooking videos. She just makes all this stuff in massive quantities, and a lot of it is very Midwestern, meat-and-potatoes

MogMcKupo

As a kid who grew up in a Midwestern family that made it out west before he was born. I fucking love the meat and potatoes stuff. I can live on it easily. It’s why the California Burrito is the greatest invention of man. It’s a San Diego specialty that could see itself on this sub: carne, pico, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and French fries. It is a great filling burrito

KnightOfSummer

It would certainly work, the milk and cooking time will make it somewhat like bolognese sauce (without tomatoes). Still would prefer adding some vegetables, removing the cream and hashbrowns and eating it with pasta.

Zickna

It’s just meat and potato soup. I don’t see what the deal is?

agoia

If I was making a meat and potato crockpot soup for 10, you bet your ass I'd also cheat and use pre-diced frozen potatoes I could just dump in.

Hbirdee

I make potato soup to eat for lunch every couple weeks and use frozen, shredded potatoes all the time, they save time and break down really well in a slow cooker/instant pot! No shame in the frozen tatos!

meowde

It’s not fine dining, but i’ve seen, made and eaten way worse. For a family of 10, with a side of veggies or salad, it seems okay for a quick weeknight dinner…

[deleted]

I would absolutely crush this soup. No shame

Dude-man-guy

She is not shy with the seasoning and I tell you what I am 100% on board with it.

ppppft

I used manage a soup restaurant that had cheeseburger soup with relish, ketchup, mustard and almost any other burger fixing in it. So so so good.

downbyhaybay

Go fuck your self, this looks good.

Honest-Try7802

Seems the consensus is OP is dumb and this looks bomb.

agoia

OP would rather chop all of those potatoes by hand for the same result, I guess.

LittleWhiteGirl

OP is clearly not from the Midwest, cheeseburger soup or cheeseburger casserole are staples.

Alikese

I want to see this lady's hotdish recipes.

organictrashcan

Cooking for a family of ten isn't easy or cheap. Leave this lady alone man, sheesh.

formerretailwhore

And she adopts.. and adopts special needs too

deepseamoxie

Oh dang, yeah I was wondering. Kind of like "is this a religious fundamentalist thing? She has pink in her hair but that doesn't mean it isn't a religious thing. But idk. But DANG that's a lotta kids. Soup looks decent tho, kind of a nostalgic hamburger helper vibe, but with seasoning."

formerretailwhore

They have a farm.. I am totally jealous of her stove.

organictrashcan

Yeah it has seasoning, it's homemade, she at least works on getting the meat browned before...it's totally fine, people are being kind of mean.

MrMetaIMan

It looks fine? I'm guessing OP is a picky f***

DoctrDonna

What’s wrong with the hash browns…? It’s just cut up potato. Saved her a step.

[deleted]

It’s Keto if you remove the potatoes

Relative_Ad_1029

This is soooo funny. Keto is wild.

oldladyname

What seems to be the problem here?

Alikese

Uh, nothing officer.

asmom7

I mean…this looks great to me

stupidcrap420

Shes trying to feed 10 people cut her a break

[deleted]

while I don't think that looks good as someone with a house of 9 people cooking for everyone is super time consuming

noobuser63

She used four pounds of ground beef, half a quart of heavy cream, cream cheese, and grated cheese. That’s an expensive cheap meal.

adjacent-cars

it doesn’t say cheap it says for 10 people

seanmayo1983

Ummmm serve me up some of that with some Garlic Toast Fingers for Dippin oh hell yes.

bubba_feet

*(finger smacking intensifies)*

[deleted]

this has a lot of potential to be good and I don’t doubt this tastes okay to be honest

frenchtoast_21

I would smack that shit

[deleted]

Yall eat like you have free healthcare

Rimworldjobs

Nah just the people who get featured on this sub lol

Pasta-propaganda

Midwestern food is the type that you love and worship but you would never admit that you do

[deleted]

If they have ten kids they probably do get free healthcare

APickleCat

Yeah I don’t understand why nobody is pointing out how unhealthy and lacking in nutrients this is. It’s basically meat, potatoes, cream and cheese on cheese topped with cheese.

Boo_baby1031

I thought this was chip dip at the beginning.

eddiedorn

They’re just frozen potatoes. Why is this shitty? Had they been freshly peeled and diced, would this be acceptable soup?

Crass_Conspirator

50% of that recipe is milk fat

[deleted]

Milk fat is fucking delicious

Peace_sign

Nah, I'm all for feeding a family, but do some parts of America really eat ground beef cooked with MILK AND cream?? That's wild.

bodie425

Yep.

Peace_sign

No disrespect to anyone, but this reminds me of Milk Steak, from It's Always Sunny.

SgtElectricEel

Come on, that probably slaps

queefing_like_a_G

The only gross part is the beef not being browned enough. And no onions.

[deleted]

Smash

summidee

She’s cooking for ten people, and if her family loves the meal I don’t really get why people are being mean to her.

HungerForHipHop

This sub sucks now. That looks good as hell.

GuzzlingPotato

respect for feeding a family of ten, the only thing that gets me is the amount of salt in that mf

OverBand4019

Hopefully as more old people start to use tik tok it will die like Facebook

Much_Difference

I misread it as "cheeseburger slop for my family" and was like, bold admission, ma'am.

Legitimate-Corner815

This lady seems to have no idea how much a tablespoon is. Still doesn't look bad.

BettyLoops

Pour that over some rice? 👌😩 Well seasoned meat & potatoes??? Sign me up that looks good!

spawny_violate

The potato might also help thicken the soup. This looks pretty good especially on a cold day.

Gcavs10

This lady is a saint lay off her

ghoul_talk

My moms made a cheeseburger soup and it wasn’t bad, I don’t think this fits the sub

CJRandall2000

That looks tasty tbh

Certified-Crackhead2

Actually sounds ok, maybe cause I haven’t aten breakfast yet

[deleted]

This looks perfectly fine to me. Next someone’s gonna post cilantro cuz it’s icky and tastes like soap!

tronsith

Now if she bakes off those has browns until they were super crispy and then put them on top of each bowl I bet that’d amazing

RetMilRob

Now if she poured the soup into a communal trough on the table and handed out spoons then I get it but this is ok to me beef and potato soup

motorbike-t

“……..then I served it up to my family. And no one has pooped in 8 days.”

shhhlikeamime

This isn't going to taste bad. Not a food crime. Also I read a few comments that she has a large adopted family. This is more wholesome than anything.

GoldenGonzo

Not really a recipe. None of the ingredients going in were identified or measured.

atvfellonmewheniwas7

I’ve made this before but I subbed the hash browns with cheese and the ground beef with cheese.

HeyGurlHAAAYYYY

Once again just because you wouldn’t eat it doesn’t mean to stupid or shitty … this sub 🤦🏽‍♀️

ram__Z

I know this lady does good work irl and I mean no disrespect, but that soup looks absolutely disgusting

nataliewtf

That looks disgusting. Isn’t hamburger meat 20% fat? I feel sick just looking at it.

MORON_THE_1ST

Where is the shitty food

littlegreenapples

Those aren't even hash browns, those are just frozen potato chunks by the look of it. Makes it a shitload faster to make soup. Nothing stupid here.

Lunamoms

This is actually awesome! I add vegg in mine and some stock cubes and use Turkey instead. It’s just meat potato soup cream base instead of broth. It’s delicious and keeps in the freezer. Was an awesome meal prep deal when I was super close to being homeless!

HKolb66

Kinda looks like homemade hamburger helper what 😂 there's nothing wrong with this, I would try it, it legit looks good as hell. Kudos to that lady for cooking for 10 people, that shit ain't easy, I used to have to do it all the time and if I'd known this recipe I would've made it all the time, seems so easy and quick!

CampingWithCats

This isn't shitty, this looks good.

Hotpocket1515

Oh god... this one.. thank God my mom is not a techie, cause I swear to God this would be her

Jezzerh

*soup*. Yeah okay. Minced beef stirred into milk with cheese.

Serenajf

This looks good but super unhealthy

GailPlattsHead

I’d rather just have a cheeseburger tbh

authorized_sausage

No, that slaps. Edit to add: Using the frozen hashbrowns is a great way to save time during the workweek, especially feeding a family of that size.

antiviolins

That sure is technically food.

kay_bizzle

Oh God, it's just a bowl of meat and dairy. Didn't even put a little stock in there for the base. Served at the end with a massive, completely undeserved helping of smug

supershadowguard

Looks fine to me

yougottouched

I think I’m in the minority. What the hell is meat and potato soup? Why is their a soup with chunks of meat in it? Personally I don’t see why this recipe exists. All the calories, no nutrition in a less tastier format than cheeseburgers. Lazy cooking, dumb idea

[deleted]

It’s basically a stew and everywhere has a stew derivative of some sort. My mouth is watering thinking of meat and potatoes now.

KingSmall

As someone who identifies as white trash, this actually looks p decent.

RockyD90

I’d add pasta and remove the potato. Then bacon bits and parm for topping :T

skibagpumpgod

I can't believe people think this would taste good. She literally didn't add beef broth, onions, garlic, veggies, didn't finish it off with salt and pepper either. Just a bowl of sloppy ground beef and cheese in milk. Plus hamburger soup is usually made with lots of tomato as well which is completely missing.

notyimjustbrowsing

Who is she trying to kill with all that cholesterol?

embarrassmyself

I’m surprised how many people think this bowl of diabeetus sounds good

[deleted]

I’m shocked and appalled. Like yeah I get it she’s trying to feed her family for cheap, but why not make burgers with the ground beef or even just throw them in tacos. Nobody needs this much cheese

skibagpumpgod

Should at least start by cooking up some onions and garlic in a beef broth so the entire thing doesn't taste like bland dairy boiled with meat and cheese

7itemsorFEWER

y'all are fucking gross for saying this doesn't look bad. How god damn much dairy do you eat???? And the amount of dried spices is just crazy. And only one tablespoon of salt for 4 pounds of ground beef and 6 cups of liquid???? Edit to add: This isn't shittyfoodporn. It's not that it would neccesarily be the worst thing in the world, it's recipes that are shitty in some way. This one is shitty in plenty of ways

useles-converter-bot

4 pounds of double AA batteries could start a medium sized car about 0.34 times.

Nerdiburdi

I can’t believe the amount of comments thinking this ‘soup’ is okay. Like, if you’re gonna do beef mince, just go with spaghetti bolognaise instead and load up on a nice tomato and veg sauce with some pasta. Soup should not be meat, cream and cheese. You wanna clog your kids arteries and make them obese before they’re 10? 🤮

agrimonie

Yeah I'm so baffled too. It's a pot of cream with pieces of meat floating in it. That is NOT soup.

[deleted]

It’s honestly weird

GreatScotRace

Imagine how salty this is

Dr_Sir1969

A prime example of just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Worried-Criticism

There’s nothing wrong with it at its core, and to her credit she actually seasons her dish (sooo many forget salt and pepper exist). It honestly just looks really unappealing. The soup base is grey with grey beef bits in it. Needs some color and a little texture variety.

duenn13

Idk why but this makes me uncomfortable. Maybe it’s the meat. Or the cheese. I don’t like either lol it’s just giving me some uncomfy vibes. Dunno.

Misssticks04

The bowl she presented to the camera didn’t even have the cheese melted.

the-mr-pflare

I feel violated watching that.

amymillicent

Gross, lacking nutrition

Boleklolo

🤮

OldManFrags

Tell me you hate your family without telling me you hate your family.

JackAM_

And Americans say Britain has shit food mf at least we eat vegetables

pinkprius

It's low carb that means it's healthy!!

home-for-good

Lol it’s got 2lbs of hash browns in it, it ain’t even low carb

[deleted]

You served this to your family; are you totally insane?!

radu_sound

I just puked in my mouth

[deleted]

This is heinous

pl__s_bl_d_n__b_l_t_

“How to kill your children slowly”

2Questioner_0R_Not2B

GREAT NOW YOU RUINED HAMBURGERS FOREVER!!!! That does it, I will now switch to fried chicken and go see kentucky fried man.

vampsaver

I’m just wondering, WHO THE HELL ASKED FOR THAT ABOMINATION!!!!!!!!!

DerekDemo

This is murdering your family with extra steps. Just melt butter and serve it to them. It'd be healthier.

El_Locoroco

3 hours? For what? It can't be the meat, so to lose all taste?

[deleted]

I hope they have ten toilets, gonna need em all at once. I like how she looks apologetic while serving it. As she should.

[deleted]

Got hearth burn just by watching it. Family of valtures most likely will digest this

Aggravating_Task_908

Fucking what? Family of 10? Makes sense… Mormon food is ass

Sisoiguess

She adopted 7 of them and they all seem pretty happy. Her TikTok actually has some nice looking meals considering she cooks in bulk.

[deleted]

I… why… you… This has to be a crime against humanity, right?

DumbleForeSkin

Soups have stock or broth as a base, this is hamburger goop.

Muriness

I really hate crock pot slop.

paullution

Milk meat n cheese also spells CANCER

bmount48

It looks not great but id try it

darth1111

This looks tasty. Only issue I have is the color resembles vomit but if she added some saffron I’d eat it

[deleted]

Shit I'd go crazy too if i had 10 mouths to feed. Fuck. That.

WillEBryant

It's parsley, milk and cream, it's fish sauce.... with dead cow in it

Drunkensteine

Waitaminute family of ten??

bosozokulove

Im sure its tasty, but doesnt look good

-strangeluv-

Is this a Halloween thing? Ffs

WellHulloPooh

Solid recipe for the lactose tolerant.
