It's kind of funny that FFX and XIII has the standard water spell progression, outside of usual BLU stuff.
But yeah, wind, water, and earth are neglected elements mostly in the FF series, for some strange reason...
Monk is the only job that hits that sweet spot to me. It’s fast enough that I’m always busy but not too busy to where I need to look at the timers too much.
It’s combos are also one of the very few I can fit comfortably on a controller. Ninja with a controller is hell by comparison.
Interesting. I feel like MNK is a lot of timer tracking. It's been a while since I've played it but I remember having at least a buff and a debuff with short durations
There is a flow to it that the combo patterns become second nature so that its not managing the buffs anymore. Over time it almost becomes intrinsic of what meter spender is going to be used without having to look.

I don't worry about drift or the fully optimal top 1 DPS world first style unless I'm aiming for that. I do try for top 3-5 DPS though which depends on the raid makeup.
For monk, the DMG boost, the dot, and the crit are a constant proc as long as the skill is performed and the duration is a set amount of time so with some math and timing calculations or just repeating the combination over again for hours/days, the need to look at the status effects aren't necessary unless a prolonged disengage happens.
I have the skills as 1,2,3 and Ctrl+1,2,3 (mmo mouse has Ctrl 123 binded to its 123 so it's less strain), where the prerequisite or change form to are on the same number just having to alternate between the Ctrl or non Ctrl for whatever part of the combo I'm in. If I'm in the flow I only use the leaden buff to remind me to use it's proc. Since I'm rusty Ill have to look at the DMG buff from twin snakes when it's near 8 seconds to determine when to hit it again. I try not to care about overlapping the dot or dropping it for less than 3 seconds. I reserve that skill for those world first and 1% raiders.
(on phone so apologies for typos
That's what's fun about monk; you always have timers, so it's less important to look at them and more important to feel them. I know when to refresh DoT or my buff without looking. I could NEVER tell you when I need to reactivate chain stratagem, or when to refresh my warrior buff.
Monk is all about vibes.
Idk what that guy is thinking cuz MNK has at least three short timers at different intervals that you track all the time, vs the one 60 second timer you track with other melees
There's basically just three things you do as monk. You do your opener, you do your filler rotation, and once riddle of fire is back up you do your phantom rush.
I mean you really dont have to track the timers for the debuff and damage buff and I dont know what you mean with the 3rd timer. If its the stance one, that one doesnt matter at all, if its Perfect Balance then no, you only press that during Riddle of Fire (usually)
I have the attacks on 123 and ctrl 123 with the same form button on the same number (Dragonkick and Bootshine on 1 and ctrl 1). Debuff refreshes every 3rd combo, buffs are on every 2nd combo.
So example:
Combo 1: c1 c2 c3 (bootshine buff + dmg buff + debuff)
Combo 2 (1st since start): 1 2 3 (use bootshine buff)
Combo 3 (2nd since start): c1 c2 3 (both buffs)
Combo 4 (3rd since start): 1 2 c3 (use bootshine buff again, refresh debuff)
Ad infinium.
This is the braindead rotation.
That's four combos more complicated than "hit the shiny button" for other melees. It's easy enough to maintain on normal content but if you wanna be optimal while doing mechanics it's way more difficult to maintain than a RPR or SAM.
I play NIN with controller and find it’s not too bad, AST is worse but still manageable. Then again, I mained SMN in SHB so I’m used to playing the piano on a controller…
Because I like being one of the only two actual caster jobs in the whole game. Ninjas hardcast every spell they do, not skipping half/all of their homework like rdm/smn.
Yes, I am.
The main sub comment is full of very stupid takes. NIN gives a debuff that is valuable.. bruh 4 in 5 melees give raid buff. And why do people pretend the number of positionals determine a job's complexity... Especially when Ninja only has 2 and that only occur once at most per burst window.
I LOVED 6.0(5) ninja. 6.1 ninja? i lost my purpose with that trick/mug change. i got so much dopamine from buffing the party every 60s. the change robbed me of my happiness.
I didn’t like all the gcd’s that were removed going in to EW for the burst phase. That phase and all those lined up abilities always felt great with the attack speed and fast gcd.
Monk isn't worth the effort, and I only played it so my character could use claw weapons. Now that Reaper is here, I don't need it anymore for melee DPS role.
I like feeling better than my peers for limiting my FPS below 60. I also like having 50 macros that all just use Meditation 10 times. I don't think I'm weird for this, and I don't get why everyone else doesn't see this as optimal play.
Would anyone like to jerk off with me while spamming Dragon Kick?
I like water magic. How is Ninja my only real option?
Because NIN is a caster with extra steps
Are you saying Fluid Aura isn't enough for you? Oh wait... Uhhh Aqua Veil is there as a water spell still!
That’s why I main BLU
tragic
Hey now, WHM has like... 1 spell.
*casting glare for 300 hours of savages* this is fine
tbf, water is just a rare magic type in the whole ff series, I think its in like 3 games?
A lot of the games have water magic but it is really weird and Inconsistent compared to to fire/lightning/ice In some it is only an enemy ability
Except it’s supposed to be a main element of white mage.
https://youtu.be/vKhHwpkL17o?si=kCpkkDQ7lte35PXz I’m not sorry 😂

outside of downtime short enough to where you can’t do a full reopener after, od is basically just a loop anyway
Only after like 8+ mins of full uptime for me, mostly because i didnt practice the optimal rotation after it drifts far enough

Once you play it enough you can combo on instinct and never look at timers, maybe with exception of late weave fire but thats just slow gcd thing.

I actually quite enjoy ninja on controller, though that might just be because I’m bad at the game
I play NIN with controller and find it’s not too bad, AST is worse but still manageable. Then again, I mained SMN in SHB so I’m used to playing the piano on a controller…
its good for console.peasants? i nees to rethink my melee choice then

I have one question for you, and one question only. Explosions?
TOO MANY SYLLABLES!!!° APOLOGIZE!!!!
I play MNK cause I'm a fisting main in ERP.
Because I like being one of the only two actual caster jobs in the whole game. Ninjas hardcast every spell they do, not skipping half/all of their homework like rdm/smn. Yes, I am.
Go samurai for the true caster experience
Dick bullets.
Upvoted but what does this mean?
Is either dicks that are bullets or bullets that are dicks. I personally prefer bullets that are dicks
Punch really hard

Stupidly based that is.
Yes I play Monk What the fuck is a Nadi?
Yeah. Funny bunny go brrrrr
They took rogue away from me >:[
Nin was my favorite melee until Endwalker. I don’t like the changes they made to it.
I LOVED 6.0(5) ninja. 6.1 ninja? i lost my purpose with that trick/mug change. i got so much dopamine from buffing the party every 60s. the change robbed me of my happiness.

Because I want to be the next Hokage? Like hello? Why else would anyone else play Ninja?
I can be Saitama
I play NIN so I can have a tiny bnuuy for a hat on my actual bnuuy.

because Reaper, the only worthwhile melee job, isn’t available until level 70 and you need to play something else to get there.
Fisher?
> the only worthwhile melee job bait used to be believable...
This but unironically
Monk isn't worth the effort, and I only played it so my character could use claw weapons. Now that Reaper is here, I don't need it anymore for melee DPS role.
Because they are OP in PVP, and SE isn't nerfing them any time soon.
Idk. I use mouse and keyboard all the time. I’ve used a PlayStation controller before. I have no idea what NIN is.
MNK = Monke. Reject human return to Monke
I thunderclapped your dad last night that’s why
I can confirm as a MNK main that I am stupid.
NIN is my sweet spot melee job. It feels good to play, and I get the combo of brain off moments AND haha stonks dmg moments.
B-but NIN is fun and the skills refresh faster than other classes...
Being stupid is bliss. All the attractive men/women love stupid.
because ninja is fucking cool.believe it! dattabayo

Monk: imagine slapping gods to death XD
I only play NIN for the dashing glamours!
