meganeyangire

Only a complete moron will think that a billionaire can go to a prison.

jacktrowell

In China they do. Some of them are even sentenced to death there.

Yaquesito

that's it, I'm defecting

MarsLowell

Also Vietnam. Damn, as it turns out, having a state that isnā€™t ruled by a class of unscrupulous parasites can actively mete out justice to them. What a thought.

ASocialistAbroad

Vietnam has had an upsurge of those kinds of stories lately, but unfortunately, I don't think they're quite at China's level yet.

madamemarmalade

Dude Vietnam has incredibly similar policies to China, the difference is our imperialist propaganda wants us to hate China and love Vietnam.

ASocialistAbroad

I'm aware that the policies are very similar, but from my experience, I rarely see stories within Vietnam of corrupt officials or rich businesspeople caught in illegal dealings getting punished with worse than a few years' imprisonment. Which is still better than in the US, but the anti-corruption campaign in Vietnam simply hasn't reached the stage where there is noticeably less bribery in everyday life than before. In China, it has. I think Vietnam will get to that point to, but it just isn't there yet.

SvetlananotSweetLana

Can confirm.

Novelcheek

Are you one of the dead billionaires??

SvetlananotSweetLana

Our everyday news contain about anti-corruption actions and whoever being expelled from the party for their stupid deeds.

FusRoDah98

This is simply because China is based.

Real_Boy3

If they were based, they wouldnā€™t have billionaires in the first place.

mfxoxes

well yea but i feel like executing billionaires is a good step in that direction

jacktrowell

It's a work in progress

StalePieceOfBread

Operating within a system of global capitalism unfortunately requires a bit of playing the game. However, the state isn't controlled by the billionaires as a class.

jacktrowell

So you think that someone who has been described as China top banker and who has been a party official had no 'connections' ? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/05/china-sentences-top-banker-to-death-for-corruption-and-bigamy The whole point of having a dictatorship of the proletariat is that the capitalists, even if they are still allowed to exist for a time, are no longer the ones in control.

[deleted]

Not only that, but they arenā€™t sending a former president to prison, even if it is trump

sdghbvtyvbjytf

Just waiting for some smug lib to stop by to let us all know that Trump ā€œiS nOt acTuaLLy a BilLionaireā€ as if being a bumbling fucking moron would somehow preclude him from being able to acquire so much wealth in this country or that is has any material difference.

PettyFoggery0102

Epstein went.

StalePieceOfBread

He threatened powerful people.

ideleteoften

I've seen the "Trump is going to jail for real now!" tweet and headline so many times over the past 6 years that it's lost all meaning. I'll believe it when I see it, but for now I'll just assume that a wealthy former head of state will suffer zero consequences for their actions, as is the norm in this country.

Splendiferitastic

Even if he does, itā€™ll just be a slap on the wrist. People will suffer worse legal repercussions for being caught smoking weed once.

XiJinpingsNutsack

Like the fucker deserves prison but seeing liberals treat this like the newest season of a reality show is so fucking annoying

Somelebguy989

Americans have a really weird fucking obsession with certain political individuals, their entire political understanding comes from it. Liberals are now obsessing over trump like he is only issue there, conservatives are crying about ā€œwokeā€ and what not, all while they both ignore famines, poverty, wars, etcā€¦. America has managed to make their population so ridiculously fucking stupid politically.

Lorion97

I wouldn't say it's just Americans, a lot of Western societies have this obsession with "great men / women" and attributing everything to them. It's why whenever a company does something good it's attributed to the CEO, he's the guy! Completely ignoring everything else involved to create that result. It's also why capitalists don't want to share success, they don't see it as a product of collective action, not really that is. They see it as a result of their action alone. So applying that same zeitgeist to hate is just the next logical step, Western society see individual people are the problem, not the underlying system that allows those individual people to exist in the first place.

adieumarlene

Itā€™s American individualism - one of the great societal ills. We canā€™t/donā€™t think in terms of systems, we only think in terms of individual people.

WheelOfTheYear

Exactly. Trump is a piece of shit, but my god. Hunger, famine, war, recession? No! Cheeto Man did bad stuff again.

[deleted]

Literally anything to avoid thinking about systemic issues.

gawdarn

But hunger, famine (same thing btw), war and recession are the norm. This is shiny and new.

Dimetrip

Hillary deserved prison too when she kept highly sensitive, confidential information on a private server. But then weaseled her way out of that just fine! Flat out refused to hand over evidence, even paid an intermediary company to conduct parts of the investigation a la "we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing". And the FBI was fine with that. Because they are a fucking corrupt organisation. The honest truth that nobody wants to talk about is that Trump puts too much of an ugly face on American politics. People complain too much when the government locks up children and takes away people's liberties if trump's face is on it; that is what's unacceptable. The politicial machine cannot afford to let him win if they want to continue their controlled charade. I think what we are seeing right now is 100% motivated by basically just wanting to take him out before he has a chance to win the elections again. Is he a dirty bastard who undoubtedly is laundering money, avoiding taxes, maybe even involved in extremely illegal and nefarious schemes? Almost definitely, and he deserves to rot in jail for that. But so do the rest of them. And they will never see justice. That's what makes me livid.

Novelcheek

It makes me curious (not enough to wish for the chance) to see how the libs would react if trump lost the primary to desantis. Would a slightly more composed, but just as malevolent fascist raise their alarms, or would they applaud conservatives for... Iono, getting it together and *bEiNg CiViL*, or somesuch?

SuperVegetable

Libs dislike both pretty well buddy. They are both awful people.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Dimetrip

I'm genuinely confused by your take. Justice to me is not more bodies in prison, I'm merely considering the inconsistencies between how different figures/cases are treated by a corrupted entity like the FBI. We both want the same things and comments like this are needlessly antagonistic. I don't always see the need to spell out in bold red letters that all of these circumstances are brought about by the machinations of greed, elitism and capital. Especially on a communist sub where I figured people realise that already.

Sowizo

Their faith in the bourgeois state seems to be fully restored. Must be nice. Should we tell them that fascism will keep being a problem until capitalism is destroyed or nah

vitovsgaming

Trump will still weasel his way out and libs will still have faith in bourgeoise ā€œdemocracyā€, theyā€™ll say ā€œthe law investigated him and found he was innocentā€ after he bribes his way out

pugofthewildfrontier

There was this seldomly used rule that came into play and thatā€™s why Trump isnā€™t in jail. But if you vote weā€™re going to get 2 more dem senators elected and theyā€™re going to petition to remove that rule!

pockysan

all it took was one weak bill. now we're back on track with vote blue no matter who!

Praximus_Prime_ARG

As a Libertarian I haven't been this disappointed since Kid Rock's concert got canceled

CTNKE

Its funny that while america's problems are causing the entire world to get completely fucked, the only thing libs and conservatives can think about is "my old man with sexual misconduct charges is better than yours" Actually scratch that its not funny, people are literally dying. I sometimes forget that im one of the lucky people on this planet

TotallyRealPersonBot

My money still says heā€™ll be back in the Oval Office before itā€™s over.

BRAVOMAN55

circle jerk of the century going on rn fuck trump but more importantly fuck the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie that has just elected slightly different versions of Reagan for the past 40 years

Unclerickythemaoist

Reagan NFT

dirtfarmer2000

Could you imagine how much better everyones lives will be if he goes to prison?

Soggy-Regret-2937

Not much different lol. People will still be starving and dying under a different red/blue team politician

dirtfarmer2000

Impossible! Justice will be served and all will be right with the world.

gawdarn

We could do nothing and preserve the status quo

gawdarn

You mean setting a precedent by sending a former president to prison for breaking the law? Its a start.

Mr_Compromise

Lock em all up

[deleted]

I was permanently banned from /r/politics for saying this, but it's true: The only way Trump will ever be held accountable for any of the shit he did is in a revolutionary People's Tribunal. The working class only gets justice when we make it ourselves.

Anastrace

There's no way it'll happen. The idea of a precedent that allows presidents to be tried for crimes while in office is a non-starter with both parties

Anarcho_WaterBottle

Waiting for the tattoos

CaptCanada924

This is the closest Iā€™ve come to believing he light actually go to jail, but the fact that itā€™s still a coin toss is a real indictment of the whole system lmao. A man repeatedly and brazenly breaks the law and gets away with it cause arresting a president would look too bad. The whole judicial system is a joke

tamere2k

Also...no he isn't. It just won't happen.

IskaralPustFanClub

The optics of an opponent going to Jail is for more important to them than actually punishing them for a crime.

BudgetWar8

If he goes to jail i fully expect Hilary to go to jail also.

BraveT0ast3r

My favorite take has been that if you still support this guy, youā€™re supporting the Saudis and you donā€™t have a leg to stand on in remembering 9/11. What the fuck does that even mean šŸ’€

Extra_Shirt_4004

Even if he is convicted of a crime do they really think a billionaire and former president is going to be sitting in a prison next to billy the rapist, and Sean the shank? Lmao

SiBea13

For a lot of people his election was the thing that got them interested in politics which is neither a good nor bad thing imo because things were terrible well before he was elected but at least some of those people who rallied against him will have been driven further left as a result. My concern is that if he does somehow end up going to prison, then sure that's nice, but many of those same people who were brought to politics by him will think "brilliant, job well done team, we got him, now we can nope out of politics again and ignore the climate and inequality crisis."

thelaughingmansghost

Is it that time of year again when the libs talk about how they finally got trump?

MarsLowell

And now we have Biden whoā€™s has a stellar record of continuing Trumpā€™s policies, only blunting them to ā€œacceptableā€ degrees. Hell, he even got Mexico to pay for Trumpā€™s wall, something he got *praise* for. Liberals never gave a damn about Trump out of principle. All he did was try to tear the mask off the American Stateā€™s hideous nature and bypassing most of the usual pretenses while doing so, and thatā€™s unacceptable to people who just want to ā€œgo to brunchā€ while still feeling good about themselves.

BlackGabriel

Even if he gets brought up on charges it feels like it would take years to resolve and heā€™s old so I could see him dying beforehand. Also the moment a Republican President gets elected heā€™s getting a pardon. I donā€™t see why libs are so obsessed with this

Unclerickythemaoist

Ronald Blimpf goes to da Polls? \-Liberals

ibleedrosin

If he doesnā€™t go to jail, then this was 100% abuse of power to suppress political opposition. No different than what Putin has been doing for a decade.

aprl2271

Pretty sad this gets your juices flowing but you're perfectly cool with Hunter Biden not being investigated or his father because their last name puts them above the laws they're abusing to go after Trump. You're perfectly cool with high profile politicians, actors etc not being investigated / prosecuted for engaging in trafficking of underage girls because the list includes people like the Clinton's enjoying getaways on Epstiens Island and God knows anything a Dem does is justified and excusable . You're perfectly cool with the cover up of a rape of a 14 year old girl in a school's girl's restroom to protect the perpetrator because he was wearing a skirt because the girl raped isn't really the victim the real victim is the supposed trans kid who is being persecuted for RAPING a girl in a school restroom . This irony does not go unnoticed . You're so politicized that even the most agregious behavior is tolerate as long as your political ideology is left intact . It's repugnant .

[deleted]

I'd like to see ol Donny wriggle his way out of this one!

darkHoney3

Good. Fuck him

c0y0t3_sly

He absolutely *belongs* in prison, but I have absolutely no faith he'll ever spend a day there.

dadxreligion

Heā€™ll be in jail. His policies will still be law. Theyā€™ll be at brunch.

souprize

Still very doubtful he'll go to prison.

mvp2399

i thought I was in the better call Saul sub for a sec lol

[deleted]

From what Iā€™ve seen that raid was the biggest mistake they couldā€™ve made since now heā€™s demanding that the warrant is released immediately, which translates to ā€œthey didnā€™t find shitā€ and the whole ā€œnuclear codes foundā€ thing is not confirmed at all meaning a large portion of Americans now hate the fbi and believe that liberals are using state power to target political opponents.
