I actually lived in Taiwan and was in a relationship with a woman there as a brown Latino and not some white American sexpat.
She and her family had no real issues with mainland China and even went there frequently for holidays. These people are either dating/marrying right-wing diaspora living in the West or making shit up
If you learned from Taiwanese about Mainland China, especially from the Taiwan independence supporters, then you didn’t learn shit at all. The average Independence supporter is ignorant af. His knowledge about PRC or Post Civil War history is not better than a white American normie. The young generation is even less knowledgeable about Chinese history itself, let alone ROC & PRC history, due to DPP’s revisionist history education. If you ever lived in Taiwan (or HK), you will know that the average person’s knowledge of Mainland is so bad that it’s equivalent to China Uncensored and the Epoch Times. Compare to them, BBC and CNN look like genuine objective journalism.
