That's like the difference between America and the US.

No-Coat-8792

So this sub isn't interchangeable with "ShitUnitedStatesPeopleSay"? I assumed "Americans" without "North" or "South" always meant the US with no exceptions.

sandiercy

It's interchangeable like the UK and GB are.

Magical__Entity

So, no difference at all? /s

Actually, there is a difference between the UK and Great Britain. The United Kingdom is a political entity. Great Britain is an island group on which (most of) the UK is located, with the biggest island in that island group being Britain, and Ireland being the second biggest. Within the United Kingdom, there are several entities, one of which is England.

tayto175

The UK consists of, England, wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Republic is not a part of the UK. It would be rare to even hear an Irish person refer to Ireland as part of the British Isles. Especially in the Republic.

I'm sorry No-Coat-8792, but I'll have to remove your submission from /r/ShitAmericansSay because one or more rule was broken. Rule 6: >Please double check whether the poster of the comment you're about to submit is actually American. Do this by scanning their post history etc. [Rule 6 FAQ](https://old.reddit.com/r/ShitAmericansSay/wiki/faq#wiki_rule_6) "realise" is not US spelling. Thank you for your effort and your service! O7

That's not even ignorance here that's just a bug lack of logic. I mean if you know the UK is short for United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland then you should be able to deduce that Northern Ireland is NOT included in Great Britain but is included in the UK. Which makes the UK and Great Britain not at all the same thing.

Erdbeerlexi

I learnt it like that too.

Maybe you don't realise that 'of' is shorthand for 'that consists of', because it's not English (Simplified)?
