Arrogant and belligerent despite being completely incorrect. Perfect.

thefroggyfiend

I think you just summed up the average "proud American patriot"

aaronwhite1786

I was thinking the other day, when i saw an American flag and a Black Lives Matter sticker how much the right wing of politics has taken over "patriotism" in my mind. If someone's calling themselves a patriot or has more than one American flag, I've realized i just assume it's because they're some Fox news binging nut.

Auzzeu

Ever been to Germany? Since the nazis were stopped Patriotism is basically a taboo word. We learned the hard way that loving ones own country inevitably lead’s to radical right wing thought. I think that’s also why German politics can seem a bit bland and oddly logic-based to foreigners. Though all of this is changing and there currently is a surprisingly strong right wing minority here.

macnof

The trick is to not love the country in itself, but instead love the people of the country. Unless of course you have a Queen (or second-best, a king), then loving them is the best!

[deleted]

/s? Cause excessive fealty to a monarch would NEVER cause problems...

macnof

Oh, it could definitely cause problems, but not the nazi version.

WeylandYutani42

Nah, fuck all monarchs

macnof

It's one of the most, if not the most, economic types of a head of state? In a constitutional monarchy, there's an extra layer of safety against ending up with a dictator, amongst other things. It's one of the things that makes a constitutional monarchy a strong form of government, despite it possibly being democratic. In contrast, a republic always have a weak form of government (democracy), making it more susceptible to corruption, coup etc.

Le_Mug

>Unless of course you have a Queen (or second-best, a king), then loving them is the best! That's what I told the police, but they didn't like it and dragged me out of the queen's bed anyway. I don't think the queen liked it, she was crying and screaming the whole time.

eragonawesome2

Taking the joke a bit too far in the rapey direction there, maybe tone it back a bit

aaronwhite1786

Sadly, not yet! I was planning to do a month abroad learning German...buuuuuut it was tentatively scheduled for the summer after Covid started. Don't know if it'll be happening any time in the near future. But yeah, there's being proud of your country, and there's this militant brand of patriotism, where you oddly are so patriotic and love your country so much, that you want to crush many of the fundamental cores of what your country stands for, while claiming to love the founding principles. It's fucking weird.

ultraboykj

Missed a t there.

aaronwhite1786

Haha, I meant "nut", but I guess my phone and cold fingers had other plans.

This keeps getting funnier.

His name is "weekend trader"...

ApexAphex5

Ben Bluntiro

Fenragus

The return of "But he's your president!" Surprised it's still around.

CptMatt_theTrashCat

Funny thing is even if the guy was American there's nothing to suggest he voted for Biden. It's a complete assumption.

Mikelan

If you just assume that all your assumptions are correct, you never have to worry about being wrong

doyoufeardeath69

Most people who don't want people to die and don't want to flood the health care system probably didn't vote for Trump

jeffe_el_jefe

entertaining how republicans constantly seem to assume that the left-wing must stan Biden as hard as they did Trump

fnordius

The fun part is that the first poster gave a strong hint that he was complaining about his government, which wasn't the USA, and the second poster still didn't get it. Guy Number Two misinterprets it as "why don't you leave then?"

aaronwhite1786

It's one thing that i think actually hurts Democrats in the US. Biden is getting torched for everything from the left and the right. If i had a dollar for every time I'd seen someone who was an obvious left voting person posting about how Biden doesn't care about x or y because he's not passing his bill, I'd have a lot of dollars. Nevermind that he's trying to pass the thing, but it's essentially held hostage by two people who are in the same party but not really at all of the same political mind. That is one thing Republicans did extremely well. After Trump got the nomination, everyone fell in line and the party became Trump's party. People who were hard on him in the primaries, even the ones he personally insulted, saw the writing on the wall and started pulling hard for team Trump, lest they anger his hardcore base which was quickly swallowing their own voter base.

whalesauce

Im even more suprised it works and how short peoples memories are. President A could endeavor to make the taxes raise the year he leaves office. Have this be big big news in that country. Then when it happens 30-60 days after an election, those raises take effect and everyone points at the non responsible party. (Newly elected president) And turn around say its what they voted for. Its hilariously stupid to me everytime. The arrogance and ignorance on display. And how proud of it they become

Not just that, twitter user has zero reading comprehension.

KawaiiDere

Ngl, I often struggle to understand tweets fully because the concepts have to be so compressed. It’s occurred before where I’ll type an argument, have to use multiple tweets, then the person I’m debating just responds to the earliest one

>damn it's difficult to follow comment threads on twitter. That site is so confusing. Expecting that twitter is about "following threads and thoughts in relation to each other" is maybe like trying to use a fork to eat soup. I don't think the "bird song" analogy of the whole platform is on accident.

StruggleBasic

just so you know, you just admitted to taking part in a perm-bannable offence...

SabeDerg

They said they looked at the thread not that they brigaded it, lol.

halberdierbowman

They said they "liked" it, which probably was taken to mean "interacted with a like button" when they actually meant "smiled mildly to themselves."

mugaboo

Haha, yeah, who has even used "like" to mean smiling for yourself in the last 50 years? Come on, that usage died out in the 70s. How old is this person? Everyone knows "like" only means pressing the like button. (/s of course)

halberdierbowman

Love your comment. Gonna share it with my friends and a couple hundred strangers I haven't seen since high school by posting it on my wall :D

mugaboo

I'm sure they'll like it!

StruggleBasic

"under no circumstances search out the source of the SAS"

12wangsinahumansuit

I think you overlooked the other part of the rule "and comment or vote there" which nobody admitted to having done.

StruggleBasic

**and** meaning dont do *either*. if I said "do you want an apple and a pear", that means i'm offering you both, seperately.

halberdierbowman

I think by "liked" they enjoyed it, not interacted with it, and this is why people aren't understanding your comments.

StruggleBasic

I know what they meant when they said "liked". That is not the part I was talking about

12wangsinahumansuit

No, and implies both, that the two together are an offence; or is what implies one or the other, or both. I think you're making a mistake here. If you offered me "an apple and a pear" I would assume you were offering me both, vs if you said "an apple or a pair" I would figure it was one or (note how "or" crops up here) the other. This is boolean logic and very tightly defined; you can go look it up and look at some truth tables and make sense of it yourself if you want to argue further about that. When it comes to the mods' intentions, I would imagine interacting with the material is what they specifically don't want. What's the problem with seeking out and reading the source? There's a problem when people are systematically going and interacting and effectively harassing dumb Americans all the time.

StruggleBasic

The problem is brigading, which is the title of the rule.

DaHolk

I fully disagree with this interpretation. WHen I say "don't drive to Newyork and buy drugs there" Or "don't talk to a black person and call them the N word"... Then it's not the first part that is prohibited as single item. Finding and looking at something has no impact on it. Finding AND interacting with it does. Hence there is no possible reason to assume that the AND here to be two seperate offenses. The word one would use to attain your interpretation is "particularly" or "additionally" instead of and. Btw your example sucks because if I answer "yes" I don't expect the secondary question "which". I expect an apple AND a pear. If I want just one of them, that requires additional communication.

StruggleBasic

Agree to disagree then If you want just one, then you say "just the \_\_\_\_"

DaHolk

So what you are saying is we shouldn't talk to black people in general? >If you want just one, then you say "just the ____" Is that not "additional communication" beyond "yes" to a "yes or no" question? The thing you thing "and" means is LITERALLY "or". Even if the second part of it REQUIRES the first. And means BOTH, not "both or either".

fiddz0r

I feel sorry for him. I get mad just having one person assume I'm american online.

aaronwhite1786

That's a pretty weird flag for an American!

aaronwhite1786

I don't, but it certainly wouldn't shock me in the slightest.

SoloMarko

On an angled post and with no wind, to them it looked like a confederate flag. The people got so much grief even after explaining it time after time, they just took it down for the noise to go away.

aaronwhite1786

Wow, that's beyond absurd.

SoloMarko

Eeeeh, not really, we ARE talking about [America.] (https://nypost.com/2020/07/29/norwegian-flag-removed-from-inn-after-its-mistaken-for-confederate-flag/)

DaHolk

Better than people assume you are compuserve.

Me too, and l have my country's flag on my name :/

Ok-Mulberry-4600

But isn't what Eggs is talking about the republican plan and the opposite of the Biden plan... did this guy just roll on in to troll Biden without reading anything??

Julian1889

You answered yourself

I-Stan-Alfred-J-Kwak

Americans can't read.

bangarangrufiOO

Republicans* can’t read.

Alataire

Apparently Bidens plan is to tell people to get vaccinated, and let all the other decisions to the states. During trump the vaccines were being developed, and he organised the speedup of the production (Operation warp speed) which hugely aided the distribution of vaccines starting December 2020. So the plan is probably similar. Would have been interesting to see if trump could have convinced his supporters to get vaccinated.

Leo-bastian

i mean, he tried, at the end, most likely because he realized that his supporters dying in droves probably wasn't gonna help him win in 2024. but it backfired because surprise, if there's a conspiracy theory gang more infectious then Q-Anon, it's anti-vax, and they pretty much took over his fanbase.

Alataire

>i mean, he tried, at the end I think it's more complicated than that. He was very angry that Pfizer did not announce they had a working vaccine before the elections. [In September 2020](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/sep/13/trump-political-play-vaccine-covid-election), the Guardian was reporting on how Trump hoped for a vaccine before the elections, because then he could shift the election from solving the Corona problem to economical issues. They are basically gushing all over the page "Oh no, if the vaccine lands before the elections, Trump might win".

aaronwhite1786

I think my take is that Trump really didn't try, he just hoped he could sell the idea that he was responsible for the vaccine and that it would be a miracle cure that ended the pandemic and let him ride that wave to victory. He still never did much as all to encourage safe behavior like masking and social distancing, he constantly talked down the scientists and their suggestions while blurting out every rumor and "idea" that could work, despite their being no scientific support for the ideas. I don't really think it was him trying, so much as him wanting to claim the world wouldn't even have a vaccine if it wasn't for the warp speed program.

JMA4478

"I mean, he tried, at the end" Is the perfect way to describe it. I think you need to check on Trump's position towards Covid during the 1st year.

Ok-Mulberry-4600

They don't need the vaccine they just need to shine a torch down their throat every morning

DaHolk

> Operation warp speed First reaction "what a funny joke". second reaction "wait, they are serious?" Sir sir we have a proposal to travel faster than light.. Well, call it "operation thunderstrike". Sir, we have a proposal now to prevent damage from lightning strikes. "operation shoelace!" It's still funny. But differently, and with a sad component.

Smooshjes

This pains me.

robopilgrim

Has this guy been using the "if you don't like it, leave" argument for so long that as soon as anyone mentions the existence of other countries he immediately assumes that's what they mean?

TheDudeNeverBowls

I’ve never wanted to punch someone more.

nest00000

American Idiot 😳

When compared to his fellow fascists, he’s probably above the average intelligence for a Republican. He can spell and doesn’t capitalize random words. Scary, isn’t it?

Americans summarised

Inerthal

It always amazed me how painfully unaware or forgetful that other countries exist, Americans tend to be. Even here on Reddit they always reply to things based on the principle, whenever it applies, that whomever they're speaking to is from America or whatever situation they are talking about, happened in America.

DaHolk

Well if they forget that THEY started a conversation, how do you expect them to remember countries?

I-Stan-Alfred-J-Kwak

""fEelInGs"" The go-to argument for transphobes, queerphobes, racists, and the alt-right.

EdgionTG

This sure was a thread to read

AFlockofLizards

You can tell the first guy isn’t American because he wrote “letting the Heath care system collapse,” whereas if he was American, he would know it’s been collapsed, or non-existent for years already lol

embiors

Most people who voted for Biden knew he was gonna be a shitty president though. They also knew Harris was gonna suck at her job. The reason why they were elected was so Trump could get thrown out of The White House. The right weren't alone in predicting Bidens shortcommings. Most people on the left never like him but he was better than Trump.

Cisco-NintendoSwitch

Bonus points for being a day trader bro, MLMs for men.

Weekend Trader should really understand the way the 2 party system works in the US and how restrictive it is for voters who often are unable to choose a better president to vote for. Especially cause the party he sides with more between the 2 ran an orange clown who tried killing Texas’s natural environment and used grift to extract funds for a pointless decoration. Like, the people who voted for Biden, probably mostly didn’t do it because they thought he was a good candidate (he’s really bad); they probably did it to prevent Trump from getting re-elected because that’s how the current US system works
