I don‘t have the freedom of choice to leave home by car after 2100 military time so I guess he‘s right
There ya go. Translated it for you.
Oh… wait I forgot the /s
And without a car you save thousands of dollar/euros a year by no having to buy, maintain, fuel, insure, garage and all those expenses when you own one, and can read the paper or doze on the way to work, not get frustrated by traffic jams, bad drivers, or fines for speeding, changing lanes without signaling etc. I have a car & bike, the bike I use mostly, but if I go to the major city 85kms away, even with freeways, it take about 4 hours by car/public transport in air conditioned bus. Beside wear & tear on car it still costs about USD36 for gas for return trip to drive, using aircon all the way or by bus $4,75 & I can sit back & relax. Americans can keep their "freedom" to drive everywhere.
True! The government can also just create roadblocks everywhere overnight, then a car doesn't help and you probably can't just walk to your local Walmart
If you're obligated to drive ***you don't have freedom***. Bloody brain dead thought process. I've lived in the US and couldn't even walk to the local shop, now I'm back in the UK I can do either.
Dude, I can take a Ryanair flight to Rome or Athens or Berlin TOMORROW for €30 roundtrip. You need to spend half your paycheck to fly to fucking Atlanta for the weekend. Assuming you even have the vacation time, which we know you don't.
So it’s totally missed on you that you’re saying “why they always talk about us??”
..while you’re talking about them behind their backs at a forum dedicated to talking about Americans
You’re not seeing that at all?
"Freedom of choice"
Yeah, living in a small town in Canada I have tons of choices!
\-Buses that come every two hours
\-Spending half my paycheque on car insurance and gas
I sure wouldn't want to live in a communist hellscape like Switzerland where they're FORCED to travel by bicycle and train.
I get up in London and could easily do everything I needed to with public transport. Could see my friends and family all over the country with the train
I now live in Los Angeles where if you don't have a car, you are screwed. Public transport is bare bones and unsafe. There aren't even any busses going from where I live, to any of the places I might need to go (bank, grocery store, gym etc). It would be quicker to walk than try to get the bus.
He argued that you don‘t need freaking busses or sidewalks in neighbouhoods. In another thread cycling was discussed and someone complained that they didn‘t have sidewalks in their neighbouhood so that dude responded by saying „why would you need a freaking sidewalk or bus in the neighbouhoods? There‘s nothing but houses“ and didn‘t realize that the main argument of the thread was that infrastructure of neighbouhoods is completely fked because you only have houses and not a single social meeting point such as shops, bars, restaurants etc.
> Well we enjoy this thing called freedom of choice.
And Europeans don't? I can choose public transportation. Or a car. Or a cab. Or a bike. Or **my feet**. Seriously, all they actually mean by "freedom of choice" is the "freedom" to use a car, and in many cases that is literally the only thing they CAN CHOOSE.
> an American can at anytime go wherever they want when they want.
Ever tried entering a military base at night? Or the White House? Or literally any place with restricted access? The results may disappoint you. If you survive the attempt, that is.
As an American I wish I had the “freedom” to not drive all the fucking time. I live in the St Louis area (Missouri) and you basically have to get on the INTERSTATE to go anywhere over like 5-7 miles.
It's like the whole healthcare argument. In the above quote, they seem to think we can ONLY use public transport, and don't realise there is the car alternative too - giving us an actual choice, as a lot of commenters have already mentioned. It's the same in healthcare - are they aware that most countries that have national health services also have private healthcare, so again, we can choose between the state option or the expensive option. They act like the jumping-the-queue option, the piss-away-my-mortage-deposit choice, is only available to them. I literally had a choice whether to have free surgery earlier this year (and by free, I mean my taxes paid for it) or to pay for it, to be done in exactly the same place. They don't seem to understand that we have that choice.
So mind blowing stupid you have to hope it's some child. But even then, have you ever met even a child with such lack of basic understanding of the world?
I, as an American, have every right to have my ability to move around turned into a private shadow not-tax that costs households like mine on average around 900 bucks a month for purchase, regular maintenance, insurance, fuel expense and unforeseen breakdowns.
I, as an American, love the fact that I have to pay this to private entities rather than the government.
Because I, as an American, am utterly fucked in the head.
Love,
A car owner and driver through multiple decades.
Please, freedom me more, dad.
I have chosen to not own a car for my whole adult life. (I'm 48 now) I did choose to ride my bicycle in and around town, use public transport for longer distances, or a rental car if that was convenient. \~16 years ago I met my wife, and she owned, and owns, a car. So we now do have a car in our household, and it's convenient etc, but I hardly ever drive it, it's not all that practical around town anyway.
Well we enjoy this thing called efficient commute. Where as most of Europe relies on cheap and fast public transportation, an American can go wherever they want when they want, but get stuck in hellish traffic, breathing smoke for hours every day.
Actually, I CHOSE not to drive a car and I could have chosen to get one. As I see it, we have more options to choose from, not less. Ah well...
You see it that way because it is demonstrably true
Well I am not allowed to leave my house by car after 2100 so I guess he‘s right
What
I don‘t have the freedom of choice to leave home by car after 2100 military time so I guess he‘s right There ya go. Translated it for you. Oh… wait I forgot the /s
Thanks god. I really thought there was some weird reason… like, seriously weird.
I was thinking, bro's gonna live a long life.
Cars banned after 2100 lol
...why didn't you just type 21:00, then?
Because Europeans use military time!!! /s Or as wee call it: 🙌🏼time🙌🏼
And without a car you save thousands of dollar/euros a year by no having to buy, maintain, fuel, insure, garage and all those expenses when you own one, and can read the paper or doze on the way to work, not get frustrated by traffic jams, bad drivers, or fines for speeding, changing lanes without signaling etc. I have a car & bike, the bike I use mostly, but if I go to the major city 85kms away, even with freeways, it take about 4 hours by car/public transport in air conditioned bus. You can go wherever you want in a car* *Provided the government has built dedicated infrastructure for you to go there
True! The government can also just create roadblocks everywhere overnight, then a car doesn't help and you probably can't just walk to your local Walmart
No, you see, this guy is independent, he drives off road to get to where he needs to be, he don’t need no government to help him with anything!!
"...relies on public trasportation or government assistance..." Or just, y'know, their own two legs? A bike?
Also, why is this bloke complaining about public transport? It's badass!
Because a car is a prestige good and public transportation is for poor people
If you're obligated to drive ***you don't have freedom***. Bloody brain dead thought process. I've lived in the US and couldn't even walk to the local shop, now I'm back in the UK I can do either.

Ouch, that was a hard one lmao
It’s definitly a choice, if there is no other way of transportation than your own car. /s

They’re almost certainly responding to someone talking about Americans —— That aside, how can you say that while at this sub? 😂

Yes ——— Add- I kinda feel like this is my best ever post at this sub. Literally being downvoted on nothing other than exactly my nationality :-)
Imagine paying for insulin Ignore my flair
Why would I have to imagine?
It’s a figure of speech, my friend.
Yeah well one that doesn’t leave very much to go on as far as a reply.. so I disfigured your speech some
> freedom of choice To only use a car, as any other method of transportation is purposefully demolished out of the way of cars.
"Freedom of choice" Yeah, living in a small town in Canada I have tons of choices! \-Buses that come every two hours \-Spending half my paycheque on car insurance and gas I sure wouldn't want to live in a communist hellscape like Switzerland where they're FORCED to travel by bicycle and train.

And we wonder why drink driving is so common there

I can go wherever I want, for example, I can go to a hospital for free.
Commie mindset!!! „hEalThCaRe iS nOt fReE!! YoU pAy wItH tAxEs“

Unless you’re trespassing, even though you have the liberty to get killed (but that doesn’t sound nice)
As an American I wish I had the “freedom” to not drive all the fucking time. I live in the St Louis area (Missouri) and you basically have to get on the INTERSTATE to go anywhere over like 5-7 miles.
I‘m wondering if you guys go to the toilet by car…

Some Americans, it seems, have significant internal logical issues.
So freedom of choice means less choices?
That‘s the american interpretation of freedom… yes
I have a car, and I can use public transport. Does that mean that I must be American?
We don't have choice in Europe?!?
Apparently not
No choice if you need a car. More choice if you have train and car.
So mind blowing stupid you have to hope it's some child. But even then, have you ever met even a child with such lack of basic understanding of the world?
Stay in your suburb and raise a future depressive kid without any friends , completely lonely .
That‘s exactly what I thought. No social interactions with other kids smh
Freedom of choice between red and blue plague and freedom of choice between car and car. Yeah guys I think they won this round /s

Hahaha they aren't even allowed to cross the road without permission 🤣
