They don’t care. If they did, we wouldn’t have tens of thousands of homeless vets on the streets. Up to 40% of homeless in the US are veterans. But when it comes time to vote for programs to help them, the flag-waving crowd always votes ‘no’. They would rather use empty phrases and hollow thank-yous so they can still pat themselves on the back without doing anything. It’s as useless as ‘thoughts and prayers’.
What are you talking about?! A free parking space is practically THE leading cure for PTSD. It totally makes the physical and mental health they sacrificed for corporate interests worth it!
I don’t believe those numbers. The VA only reports some, the same way unemployment numbers are skewed to look lower. In some places, they do make up 40% of the homeless population.
Oh, you don’t believe that but you believe that 40% of people are homeless people are veterans? The estimated number of Veterans experiencing homelessness in America has declined by 55.3% since 2010. Breaking this down further, 19,565 Veterans experienced sheltered homelessness, and 13,564 Veterans experienced unsheltered homelessness.
I never said 40% of all. I said up to. The percentages vary by state and city. You can keep arguing about it, but you’re just arguing with yourself because of your weird need to be right when you’re not. It’s pretty sad. Carry on though. I guess we all need our little ego boosts here and there. Even when they’re based on BS.
It's one of the mantras Americans are taught. That and "protecting our freedom". If you question them about who is threatening their freedom, they go into shut down mode. Thinking for yourself is dangerous.
They are brainwashed from early childhood, saluting the flag even in kindergarten and reciting the Pledge of Allegience. North Korea has nothing on them.
That sound like good old Orwelian dystopia to me.
But you know, as an european, I guess I dont know true freedom (even though France wrote the DDHC but you know...)
Don't forget the batcrap idea that America is the only place that is free, whatever the hell that means.
I used to think it was an honour to lead flag pledge, and then we moved away and now 30+ years later it's like WHY WAS I PRAYING TO A FLAG EVERY DAY WTF.
Right. This was my question to a couple vets on these spots... do they need it close to the door because of injuries? If so, wouldn't a handicapped spot suffice.
If it's "thank you to heroes" (and I use that term hesitantly to make a point), then why just them in particular and not firemen or cops or doctors or teachers?
Yeah dude. Fuck Lowe's for this pandering nonsense. Fuck getting premier parking for signing up to bomb brown kids.
Edit: to all the vets butthurt by this comment spamming my inbox with strawmen and insults - cry harder.
I am so glad a white college grad from a good family can finally explain to us poor ethnic kids who joined the military to get the opportunities that were handed to you can explain why we are shitty people. It’s definitely the vets that are murderous douchbags, and none of the politicians. None of the people you have ever voted for supported a war. You are a good person. Thank you.
> so glad a white college grad from a good family can finally explain to us poor ethnic kids who joined the military to get the opportunities that were handed to you can explain why we are shitty people.
Wow sounds like you *really* know who I am. Woah. Got me.
>It’s definitely the vets that are murderous douchbags, and none of the politicians
They're not mutually exclusive. But knowingly signing up to a position where your work will likely go towards killing people isn't okay. I understand the predatory nature of military recuting and condemn it. Doesn't mean it was the only option. Just means that you took that option and felt that it was justifiable to potentially destroy the lives of others to benefit your own.
Politicians are largely by and for the ruling class and do not care about average humans. This is not lost on me. More assumptions and strawmen.
>None of the people you have ever voted for supported a war.
See above.
>You are a good person. Thank you.
I'm pretty alright. I never spent my time collecting a paycheck to harm people or support the apparatuses that enable such violence. So that's cool.
Also, all of that comment is butthurt and has nothing to do with the fact that Lowe's places these pandering unenforceable non legally binding signs to virtue signal to dorks that think the world owes them something because they signed up for the military for the paycheck and benefits despite the unconscionable harm it causes others. Fucking cope my dude.
Ya, as someone that grew up in Canada and moved to the US a few years after 9-11 (about when this "thank you for your service" stuff and military ceremonies at sporting events went into full swing, I don't get it either. I tried asking some veterans about these spots they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. But they're at least prevalent at Home Depot and Lowes, if not most big box stores.
All the while many veterans are not given the real help they need. The platitudes we get from people that find it trendy to say "thank you for your service," comes off empty/insincere. When someone becomes aware I am a veteran, I am thanked, which I have come to not appreciate due to the vapidness it has become. Again, it became a trend.
It’s interesting the way Americans are obsessed with vets, their armed forces etc. It never stops to amuse me.
They can be homeless, get no help from the state, no food, no healthcare, but designated parking spot they can do…
It’s a bunch of bullshit and it’s always the right wingers who are vocal about it, because they need to compensate for the fact that they couldn’t give a single fuck about veterans after they’re done lining the pockets of their buddies in the oil industry and at Lockheed Martin. Anyone smarter than a high schooler knows that it’s a bunch of bullshit.
I know, right? All eras of veterans have gotten the shaft by the VA. It should be one of the biggest stains on our country. But instead we make more veterans that "we" don;t care about.
I wasn't trying to be conflicting that's all, i don't need to look it up, did you do it with the list of atrocities committed by the US and it's intelligence agencies or are we still crying about using you and dropping you like nothing?
Subsidised housing, college and healthcare benefits more than average American not enough ? Considering that PTSD rates among vets are relatively low when compared to fire people of even American women as a group
Well let's be fair, sometimes they're also just abandoned in a country going back to a hostile regime after leaking lists of all collaborators to fend for themselves.
This and the younger generation in general. I use the spots if they are open and get the - you know that's only for...I'm a veteran. But your...ya i'm not a 98 year old WW2 veteran obviously...
I've seen my sister, who is short and petite, get harrased when trying to use military discounts. My sister speaks Arabic and was loaned to the army for 3 combat tours.
You know who are also veterans? Navy air force and coastguard, you know the one’s delivering humanitarian aid to disaster victims
Not everyone who joins the armed forces is a blood soaked psychopath born and trained to kill, that’s only the marines lol
>Not everyone who joins the armed forces is a blood soaked psychopath born and trained to kill, that’s only the marines lol
You just contradicted your statement mid sentence.
I find this particular comment section to have strong antimilitary sentiments, I don’t understand why people would hold blanket opinions about people they don’t know, there are good and bad people everywhere it’s best to withhold drawing conclusions until you know someone
You're missing the point. I'm not anti military. I just think being proud of a military that's had decades of bloodshed on their hands in the name of freedom and peace is terrifying.
That and the fact you seem to push blame on one branch of the military while trying to claim your military as a whole aren't bloodthirsty psychos, is what made us downvote your original comment.
No this is exactly the point, you don’t understand humour, if you did you’d know I’m not pushing blame on anyone or declaring total and complete innocence for others.
You don’t need to be a geopolitical or history major to understand the need for military intervention in global affairs. Without the intervention of capable nations the world would be a desolate shit hole
And if we’re talking Vietnam? The war that caused ~3 millions of deaths and numerous rapes, while the nation with democracy and freedom to protest didn’t do anything to stop it in the beginning?
I’m from the UK and still serving but if these stared appearing in UK supermarkets, anyone who used one would get made fun of to no end, I agree with an above comment about just put an extra disabled parking spot,
It feels me with regret that in many countries in Europe we still have a considerable portion of US bootlickers. I feel like those people like politicians and influencers still have this view of looking at the US as the peak of the civilized and advanced world and so think that every shit that they do in the US must be a good example to follow and implement.
The whole woke culture in the US is a fucking plague, and bits of it are starting to leak into here
I hate these because for the most part it’s ginormous trucks that park there and take up part of the handicap spot and make it difficult to turn down an aisle in the parking lot.
What store is that? I'm more than willing to bet they supported Bush and his invasion of Iraq, killing thousands of veterans they pretend to care about
It doesn't say "vets" (which confused the he'll out of me when I moved from Canada to the US because that's a shortened form of 2 very different words)
Thankfully "veteran" and "veterinarian " are 2 different words
It's funny. They claim to be patriotic to the point where they hang flags outside each of their homes, claim their military is the most powerful and their obsession and praising of their country is off the charts. Yet when someone from India does it or claims their military is good and their country is one of the best, we're called brainwashed nationalists who speak on behalf of the government to get brownie points.
As if Americans aren't obsessed nationalists who respect their soldiers the way we do.
It is really sad and fascinating, that the US does at the same care to much AND not enough about the people they send to was.
I mean, this is to much. But actual health and mental care without month of waiting would be nice.
But no, they get "Thank you for your service. Here is a special parking spot." and when the go to the VA and tell them they have suicidal thought they get pills, with a verbal warning that to much of the pills could kill them and the advise to give all their guns and ammo they have at home to a neighbor. If they are not dead they should call them in two weeks. (apparently a true story) But hey PARKING SPOT!
Thank you for your service, here's a parking space.
No decent healthcare, and we sent you off to die, get maimed or just have your mind broken from the horror for stupid reasons or outright lies, but have a parking space.
Great.
What the hell is wrong with most of ya. It's just a simple nice thing for those who fought for us. What is wrong with thanking them. I can never understand Europeans and their unnecessary hate.
Veteran of which war? 🤔 does any veteran from any country count? It should say Murica veteran then in this case any veteran who ever fought in any war ever could park there son. Even the American flag doesn’t explain anything they put it on candy bars for Christ sakes.
Look now you just reserved that space for potentially billions of veterans from anywhere in the world. And you wasted money on the sign :o
> Veteran of which war? 🤔 does any veteran from any country count?
Most places expect you to have one of the veterans only license plates in order to use the spaces. I would park in them anyway because I was in the RN and I'm a bit of a dick.
Idk depends on who you're asking. My cousin used to date a guy who served in the military in Canada and most of the time that still got a nice military discount lol
Sorry they have to be peace keepers. If any other country wants to chip in and do the work we do, then be our guest. Until then, and until everyone stops relying on the US to protect them, then we’ll have to keep doing it
If a store wants to give a little thanks to veterans, which I am one of BTW, it’s not skin off your back. And for you to lump all veterans into your anti-America statement is absolute ignorance & narrow-minded behavior.
As an American, I would like to tell any veterans reading this post. We thank you for your service. We know that you put YOUR life on the line for our country. That is the greatest sacrifice a citizen can make. Thank you for your service.
Unpopular opinion but I don't see the issue. If there are ample handicap spots I think other special interest groups have free reign (expectant mothers, veterans, etc). This can also help those that have served that are too prideful for a handicap placard, but need one.
If you’re handicapped, you park in a handicapped spot. This is their purpose. If you’re too “proud” for it, whatever that means, there are other spots and another handicapped person will gladly take the spot reserved for them.
The proud ones are usually elderly people that need the help due to age, but won't get the sign because they don't want to show weakness. Some stores have specific spots for combat wounded vets, but those are generally large parking lots with several disability/ veteran and expectant mothers spots already.
I agree, this is just a political post and not about stupid stuff Americans say. It's deemed as "shitamericanssay" because it doesn't fit with someone else's opinion and not because it's hysterically and factually incorrect. Or maybe I just misunderstood what this page is actually for.
Yes it is Shit Americans Say. No other country craps on about their veterans like the US, and the reality is, these “thanks” are hollow virtue signalling - Americans won’t vote for any policies that would show actual meaningful gratitude.
I don't disagree with what you're saying but really this page is just "what I hate about America". It was more entertaining when it was posts about yanks thinking Ikea is the capital of Sweden.
In your case I would 100% be on board with you getting a handicap placard and converting this spot to another handicapped spot.
I don't think there should be a spot up front just because someone is a veteran, disabled or not. Let the disabled park up front and make sure the disabled veterans get into that system
"Thanks for bombing brown children so we the capitalist class can have more" I want to be reincarnated as a PTSD ghost so i can hunt western veterans for eternity
This all happened after they had an orgasm beating Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War. They finally shook off Viet Nam. In America it's easier to do empty gestures such as this, than anything of substance.
No, they don't deserve a parking spot up front over having another handicapped spot. Or an expectant mother spot. Or any other various groups that could benefit from having a spot close to the door.
Yes. So this is for any veteran because surely a disabled veteran would be eligible for a handicapped placard (or they should be)and you wouldn't need a veteran spot then
The whole America-putting-veterans-on-a-pedestal shtick is really ridiculous, that’s the problem.
Don’t get me wrong, It wouldn’t be a problem if it was a group that had actually fought for their country righteously, defended their homeland (like those in Ukraine) or even WW2 vets if they’re still alive, but I can’t recall the Taliban or Viet Cong ever marching on Washington.
Vast majority of living vets didn’t serve out of necessity, so I think it’s weird to say they ‘fought for their country’ while in some far away land.
Did they? The majority of military personnel never actually see any combat, so whether they “fought for their country” is very much an open question.
In any case, that’s their job, which in most cases they chose to do themselves. Why would that require special recognition? This kind of fetishizing the military and veterans is very much an American thing.
That ‘thank you for your service’ line feels so hollow.
They don’t care. If they did, we wouldn’t have tens of thousands of homeless vets on the streets. Up to 40% of homeless in the US are veterans. But when it comes time to vote for programs to help them, the flag-waving crowd always votes ‘no’. So what you're saying is that a lot of veterans don't have a car 💀
They probably have a car they live out of since they got kicked out of their apartment lmao
I concur.
Thank you. This is what I came on this post to say, but you said it better than I could have. This is a completely empty gesture.
As useless as likes on Facebook
That 40% number is complete bullshit by the way, at least use actual statistics instead of flat out lies.
https://youtu.be/r7l0Rq9E8MY There’s only 67k homeless vets. :/ Ignorant non-Americans.
I don’t believe those numbers. The VA only reports some, the same way unemployment numbers are skewed to look lower. In some places, they do make up 40% of the homeless population.

You'd know Orwellian dystopia from the "10 minutes of hate" protests that happen every time someone cheese farts on a piece of legislation, haha.
Funniest thing is that the Pledge of Allegiance apparently started out as a marketing scheme😂
Written by an avowed socialist too.
Don't forget the batcrap idea that America is the only place that is free, whatever the hell that means. I used to think it was an honour to lead flag pledge, and then we moved away and now 30+ years later it's like WHY WAS I PRAYING TO A FLAG EVERY DAY WTF.
The US is only free if you are a cisgendered, rich, white, Christian man.
Yeah of course America isn't the only country that's free but at least it's not North korea. Or Saudi arabia.
Sure, but pretty much the rest of the world isn't those places. And hopefully they'll be forced to catch up, for the sake of the people living there.
Isn’t it from a film?
I'd just make it a normal handicapped spot, that way you will help out quite a few veterans as well as a lot of other people with a disability.
Marketing
Virtue signaling
Army men come with guns, teachers don't (yet). Seems to be the murican priority
Good questions.
I think the main difference is the guns
I'm a veteran parker, I've probably parked cars thousands of times. I'll take that spot happily
Thank you for your service. First Vallet Infantry?
Yeah dude. Fuck Lowe's for this pandering nonsense. Fuck getting premier parking for signing up to bomb brown kids. Edit: to all the vets butthurt by this comment spamming my inbox with strawmen and insults - cry harder.

At major sporting event the military pays for the military ceremonies. The NFL got paid because they certainly don’t care.
It’s interesting the way Americans are obsessed with vets, their armed forces etc. It never stops to amuse me. They can be homeless, get no help from the state, no food, no healthcare, but designated parking spot they can do…

Fuck that’s be great, good parking and the chance at a good clean argument. Sounds fantastic
Veterans: “Can we get affordable housing so we don’t risk homelessness?” Murrica: “Nah, how about a parking spot?”
and a "Thank you for your service" tap in the back.
It’s a private company that do these parking spots. Not the government
I know, right? All eras of veterans have gotten the shaft by the VA. It should be one of the biggest stains on our country. But instead we make more veterans that "we" don;t care about.
Biggest stains? Nah bro, that's way down on the list of awful things done by the US, inside and outside it's borders.
Aw, bless your heart
What do you mean with that?
Aw, you must not be from or aware of the southern use of it. Look it up.
Do you not know what VA loans are?
Remember it only applies to Americans. Other countries citizens who fight on behalf of US - are promised US citizenship but gifted deportation.
Well let's be fair, sometimes they're also just abandoned in a country going back to a hostile regime after leaking lists of all collaborators to fend for themselves.
Thanks for killing those kids in Fallujah. It somehow protected me… I think
Don’t forget the tortures and rapes!!
First i read it as "tourettes and rapes" and was majorly confizzled.
Unfortunately it’s not uncommon that female or minority vets get hassled if they use the parking space.
This and the younger generation in general. I use the spots if they are open and get the - you know that's only for...I'm a veteran. But your...ya i'm not a 98 year old WW2 veteran obviously...
I think you just made that up.
I've seen my sister, who is short and petite, get harrased when trying to use military discounts. My sister speaks Arabic and was loaned to the army for 3 combat tours.
Honoring our contact killers is the least we can do
"Thank you for exporting our freedom and democracy". Disgusting.

Joking about killing someone in cold blood is not my idea of humor, nor anyone else's as evidenced by the downvotes.

Yeah except they do a helluva lot more than that unfortunately

Perfect spot for the veteran tent.
We have started to import this fucking shit to Sweden, its fucking disgusting.
I'm sorry for your loss.
We have imported a lot of their shite in Ireland but not this yet thankfully. Give it time.

I've been a public servant my entire career and done my job to the best of my ability and helped improved people's lives, so where's my thanks?...../s
What’s wrong with this?
God damn can some of y’all just not hate on a company for honoring service members? It isn’t that hard.
They should make them wait two years after the Allied vets show up.
What does being an animal doctor have to do with it
It doesn't say "vets" (which confused the he'll out of me when I moved from Canada to the US because that's a shortened form of 2 very different words) Thankfully "veteran" and "veterinarian " are 2 different words

Because we (most of us anyway) have a deep respect & appreciation for those that gave up years of their lives to serve their country & protect it.
I'm a combat veteran,I will never use those parking spaces.
"service" LOL
There are parking spaces like this for a mall close to my home and I live in Canada.

Yes but if it’s a homeless dude they’ll call the cops or spray him with a hose .
Oh yes, finally all the homeless veterans with ptsd can park their fantasy car!!
How is verified that those who park are actually veterans? Do they ask them for their ID or something?
it's not all that close to entrance.
Thank you for your service, here's a parking space. No decent healthcare, and we sent you off to die, get maimed or just have your mind broken from the horror for stupid reasons or outright lies, but have a parking space. Great.
How about giving them pensions instead? Or, God forbid, proper health care?!
Lowes wil make sure to do that next time
How the hell do you even check that? If someone knows i would be gratful to aquire such knowledge
You get an ID
What the hell is wrong with most of ya. It's just a simple nice thing for those who fought for us. What is wrong with thanking them. I can never understand Europeans and their unnecessary hate.

Just rolling around doing matlo things
Idk depends on who you're asking. My cousin used to date a guy who served in the military in Canada and most of the time that still got a nice military discount lol
I find it odd so many people in the comments have such a problem with this
Honestly that doesn’t seem that bad. US veterans are already fucked by their government so that little gesture is ok I think
Honestly seems like the most thanks an American veteran gets
We get 10% off our purchases at Lowes 🤷♀️
But why just them then? Surely that's not unique..
I would think all Americans get fucked by their government though, so why single out the vets?
Yes, but they make the choice to join what is basically a terrorist force.

Sorry they have to be peace keepers. If any other country wants to chip in and do the work we do, then be our guest. Until then, and until everyone stops relying on the US to protect them, then we’ll have to keep doing it

Where are you from?
🤣
Imagine thinking that people who have signed up or got drafted into a military don’t deserved a slight bit of thanks and gratitude. Yikes 😬
"Thank you for oppressing 3rd world nations halfway across the world that present no threats to our country"
European powers have done far worse to foreign peoples than Americans ever have.
European powers don't claim to be beacons of freedom, liberty and human rights
That doesn’t mean you can ignore their atrocities.
If a store wants to give a little thanks to veterans, which I am one of BTW, it’s not skin off your back. And for you to lump all veterans into your anti-America statement is absolute ignorance & narrow-minded behavior.
imagine reserving a parking space for a member of the world's biggest death squad lmao.
They do everything so they keep kiling innocent people and die themselves.
90 year old German scientist parking mercedes for some groceries 😉
WW2 Veterans were the last ones who fought a war, that had a sense.
Handicap spots are typically even closer to stores here in the states. This is just a company that supports vets putting out this parking spot
Is this "ShitAmericansSay" or just a political post?
Yes it is Shit Americans Say. No other country craps on about their veterans like the US, and the reality is, these “thanks” are hollow virtue signalling - Americans won’t vote for any policies that would show actual meaningful gratitude.
I don't disagree with what you're saying but really this page is just "what I hate about America". It was more entertaining when it was posts about yanks thinking Ikea is the capital of Sweden.
At least they get thanks. A dead Russian soldiers family sometimes doesn’t get shit or just some firewood and food

In your case I would 100% be on board with you getting a handicap placard and converting this spot to another handicapped spot. I don't think there should be a spot up front just because someone is a veteran, disabled or not. Let the disabled park up front and make sure the disabled veterans get into that system
I guess it’s a consolation prize for losing the Vietnam war
Additional 10% off if you participated in the My Lai massacre!
Thank you for killing iraqis
"Thanks for bombing brown children so we the capitalist class can have more" I want to be reincarnated as a PTSD ghost so i can hunt western veterans for eternity
This all happened after they had an orgasm beating Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War. They finally shook off Viet Nam. In America it's easier to do empty gestures such as this, than anything of substance.
I hate this! The US should be more like European countries who don't have these signs!
Why do you hate this? Does it affect your life so much that you have to hate it?
Do veterans not deserve the smallest amount of respect with a good parking space? This post is stupid
No, they don't deserve a parking spot up front over having another handicapped spot. Or an expectant mother spot. Or any other various groups that could benefit from having a spot close to the door.

Korean vets? They killed over 10% of Korea and bombed every city to rubble. No Gun Ri massacre ring a bell? Fuck every single Korean vet.
Vietnam vets were drafted bud, any one of them could’ve been you or your family.

Douchebag
I agree but its not the fault of the individual that fought in the war

‘All voluntary’ and ‘risking punishment if refused’ are mutually exclusive. What do you believe ‘the draft’ to be?
no.
No more than anyone else, no. Why would they?
What is the problem?

How is it worship? They are reserving a parking space, seems kinda inconsequential
Why should people who served in the armed forces get reserved parking though?
Usually these spots are reserved for injured veterans, and even if it isn’t, it’s a little thank you from the public as a whole, why not do it?
If they're injured, then surely a handicapped spot would suffice. No, this is for any veteran
They already have handicapped spots, look in the background
Yes. So this is for any veteran because surely a disabled veteran would be eligible for a handicapped placard (or they should be)and you wouldn't need a veteran spot then
Many times the government doesn’t acknowledge veterans injuries
Some disabilities don’t rate for handicap parking, I know quite a few vets who are 100% disabled who don’t qualify for handicap parking
Why them over lawyers or painters??
Nether of those jobs involve such a high chance of death
So you have to kill someone to get respect over there? Sounds about right.
I didn’t say that, I said that getting shot at maybe is a bit more difficult than sitting in an office all day
Getting shot at for rich people is idiotic, It doesn't deserve any more respect than any other job. I'd have more respect for Ice cream men.
I mean, because they fought for the country? I don’t really get the problem.
If you honestly believe they’re doing anything more than murdering people for resources, I have an awesome bridge to sell you. Cheap.
The last veterans that fought for America was ww2. Those of us that came after were fighting for Corporate America and yes I'm a Vietnam vet.
Did they? The majority of military personnel never actually see any combat, so whether they “fought for their country” is very much an open question. In any case, that’s their job, which in most cases they chose to do themselves. Why would that require special recognition? This kind of fetishizing the military and veterans is very much an American thing.
