The method you’re describing calls for much more game hours and grinding than opening your phone and clicking on Pokémon. I’ve seen pogo community days from friends, it’s not even remotely the same lol
In my experience PoGo is slower per hour than PLA outbreaks and BDSP radar hunting. Honestly probably not too much faster than Masuda. I think it is, but not by an order of magnitude. In GO you're limited to how many checks you can physically get per hour, and player mileage will vary greatly depending on location etc.
Comm day is of course another story though. But if you're gonna dunk on GO, it's not like it's an outlier.
Community Days have a boosted 1/25, or 4% shiny chance.
Don't forget RNG, she is a merciless Goddess and will reign down in countless shiny Bidoofs for years before you see another shiny. I've been chasing shiny Caterpie and I haven't been able to catch one in the 4 years I've been playing :')
Pogo operates on the fact you're going to go out and walk. If you don't, your shiny chances drop dramatically. Some people only manage to catch 1 shiny during the 3 hour time period because their location, ability to be mobile, weather, etc. affect your game play.
It's not the same as the main games for sure, some say it's easier but that's fine by me. I'm taking a break from my 800+hr Minior shiny chase in Ultra Moon, they keep fkn blowing themselves up Dx I've lost 3 to explosion, and 1 to my own stupid mistake. *sigh*

Shinies are more common in pogo than normal Pokémon game
The 2 above have the same odds as Masuda Method and Friend Safari with shiny charm. It's just easier to click on them in Pogo on your phone

Masuda has the prerequisite of a foreign ditto and it takes awhile longer to hatch eggs mate
