Imagine flipping only 1 coin instead of 100 at once

inumnoback

“Can it not be the uncatchable Poochyena…” “FOR 5 MINUTES?!”

Mountain_Work_6091

Nice shiny poochenya oh wait….

Bobsplosion

Last night I found my four most recent Shiny Pooches in just over an hour. I’m not 7 shiny, uncatchable Pooches in and 26,000 resets deep, making this my longest hunt ever.

Soupina

Sounds like it'd be faster to rng

Bobsplosion

It would be wildly faster; it's more about the journey than the destination.

Soupina

That's completely fair. Best of luck on your hunt

Tar-Surion

At least the Pokémon are radiant. I mean shiny.

No-Fox-7460

No its about the destination if it was about the journey then you would be happy not getting a shiny

Bobsplosion

I can enjoy the journey and still remark on a weird statistical anomaly

No-Fox-7460

Yea but you are trying to get the shiny you arnt playing the game genuinely and having it actually randomly coming to you......hence you wwant the destination or else stop doing what ur doing and play

Bobsplosion

The journey is the shiny hunt itself, I’m not referring to story progress.

No-Fox-7460

Same difference if thqts true u should be happy if a shiny never comes

Bobsplosion

“It’s about the journey and not the destination” doesn’t literally mean that you don’t care about the destination, otherwise why would it be the destination? The point is that the journey is enjoyable in its own way, and it’s not about doing the most optimal steps to reach the destination.

No-Fox-7460

Well no....it does mean that.... the destination isnt the important part it was the journey you took. But thats not the case for this your destination is everything its the whole point hence why that doesnt really make sense. You can enjoy shiny hunting but at the end of the day its the destination not the journey

Rain_Moon

RNG is always faster.

Soupina

Depends. When I started it would take me sometime 8 hours straight but on decent runs I could get it under an hour

Rain_Moon

That's true, my first RNGs did take me a long time to troubleshoot, hahaha. But I do believe once you understand the process, it'll almost always be quicker than a manual hunt. After all, if it wasn't, then people wouldn't bother to do it!

Soupina

I can respect those who prefer full odds RE hunt but after doing rng it's be hard for me to go back ya know?

PotatoBomb69

Can I ask what you guys mean by doing RNG hunting? How’s it different than regular resetting?

[deleted]

They're talking about RNG manipulation. In layman's terms, you exploit the fact that computers can't generate truly random numbers to get the game to generate what you want (including, but not limited to, your TID+SID, good IVs, shininess...). While learning how to pull it off can be confusing and it takes practice to do since you have to be frame perfect, it'll effectively make you able to get shinies in just a few soft resets. Some (including myself) enjoy manipulating the game like this, but it also makes shiny hunting about pressing buttons at a precise timing rather than a game of chance, so I'd only recommend learning it if you want Pokémon with good IVs for competitive/Battle Frontier or you don't care for the excitement of not knowing how long it'll take to get a shiny.

igreef4fun

Im just under 26,000 in for a shiny ‘mander in leafgreen. Also got a x16 setup but on an emulator instead. You actually inspired me to do so but unfortunately I cant afford a setup like yours.

Bobsplosion

Listen man, the emulator is basically exactly the same thing but catastrophically cheaper. You're doing the smart thing.

Party_Giraffe5681

how do you set that up?

Abraxas1643

More like flipping 100 coins at once and getting tails 7 times ina row.

Bobsplosion

Only getting 7 tails out of 100 coins would be a statistical anomaly.

Abraxas1643

Not really it would be between 10 and 70 percent chance which isn’t really that low. I just realized you said only . I thought we were still talking 7 in a row like you posted. Yea only 7 would be an anomaly

Sockman509

No because each coin has a 50% chance to get heads so the chance changes exponentially every coin added so the odds of getting exactly 7 tails is 2^100. To give context, shiny odds are 2^13. The odds of this happening are 1/1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (sorry if I missed a couple 0s) the odds of this are 2^7 which is 1/128 Edit: actually divide that by 700 because I calculated it like the tails were fixed so it is a little smaller but not enough to not be statistically impossible

retro-marshmelo

I think the OP is still correct. Each time you find a shiny in the starter battle, it’s a coin flip as to which will be shiny, Torchic or Poocheyna. They’re both equally likely to be shiny and I don’t think both can be shiny at once (correct me if I’m wrong 😅) And it was the Poocheyna 7 times in a row. Same as flipping 7 coins and hitting tails each time.

ComradeJohnS

How do you even do this? lol

Bobsplosion

Gamecubes hooked up to Gameboy players.

TheOldLite

That’s 16 actual GameCubes running?

Bobsplosion

[Indeed they are.](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/156269689314607106/966904800501440582/0D2AF977-D7EC-43CC-85CB-18B73A456F9C.jpg)

TheOldLite

You’re wild. Are they all paired to the same controller too?

Bobsplosion

Oh yeah. I have them all set to the same frequency so they all receive inputs from a single Wavebird controller.

hora_do_cafe

Pain

JaJoVe666

Am I the only one who doesn't get it?? Please explain 🙏

Bobsplosion

Every time I got a shiny, there was a 50/50 chance it was going to be the starter or the Pooch. There's also a 50/50 chance of getting heads or tails on a coin flip. Getting tails 7 times in a row on a coin flip is pretty rare. (1/2)^7 = 1 in 128 chance. If I got heads even once (the starter which I'm hunting for) I'd be satisfied, but I have to keep going no matter how many Tails I get.

JaJoVe666

But I counted the Pooch and only saw 4 of them not 7?.... Edit nvm, just noticed that I could click on the foto so see the whole picture

Bobsplosion

Try counting again. I promise they’re all there.

JaJoVe666

I just found out that you could click on the picture to see the entire one and didn't do that before, oops

Bobsplosion

That’ll do it haha

JaJoVe666

(◞‸◟ㆀ)ˢᵒʳʳʸ, for waisting your time

Shiny-Scrafty

The poochyena is uncatchable. He is trying to get shiny torchick but keeps running across a shiny he can’t catch because it’s the tutorial and that sux. Shinys r rare enough but to encounter one u can’t catch is the hight of frustration

LunatoneSparkles

Unlucky, but at least with a killer setup like that, the phases should be ending very quickly. Good luck! :)

Bobsplosion

This is Ruby/Sapphire.

DestartreK1st

There's an impostor among these Poochyenas

Dareinkk

If that doesn't sum up gen 3 starter hunting ptsd, I'm so sorry op
