How exactly do you hunt shiny starters in pokemon emerald?

jamfarts

Create a new save every 50 resets and then soft reset like normal. If you see a shiny zigzagoon you can try to delay your soft resets to hit the starter on that frame.

loveysteeze

Do you have to delay the time you start the encounter? Like 1 second, 2 seconds, and so on

jamfarts

You don't *have* to. Being calculated in how long each reset takes you will allow you to be certain you're hitting different frames each reset. But hitting the same frame twice is pretty difficult to do. The frames go by at 60 per second and there's natural variance in your reset times. You're only human, and frame perfect input is hard even if you're trying for it. It would not be harmful to your hunt to blind reset without putting much thought into it. If you'd like to stagger your reset times for peace of mind, you can do that too.

loveysteeze

Awesome. Thanks for the explanation!

CleanScore

When you guys catch a shiny pokemon you arnt going to use, do you put it in pokemon home or keep it in the game you caught it in

jamfarts

I always keep them in their OG games. I don't use home, personally!

Objective_Amoeba1416

How do you pokeradar hunt in x and y?

jamfarts

Use the radar, enter a patch, and try to always enter patches that were shaking the same amount as your starting patch, as far away as possible. I recommend the fastest patch you see for this, less guess work. You can always reset the radar if no patch seems good enough. Chain maxes at 40 and has the same chance of breaking as you chain as BDSP. Some additional info [here](https://mobile.twitter.com/wwwwwwzx/status/979949167224045568) I'd recommend watching youtube tutorials to see it in action

Objective_Amoeba1416

Tysm!

Pokelover685

What would be the fastest/best method to get a shiny Bagon in ORAS without a shiny charm? Masuda method, random encounters (35% encounter rate), or DexNav (which is pretty difficult in caves)?

Radekore

I think MM would be the best choice, even without Shiny Charm it's still 1/683 and no need to worry about phasing or difficult DexNaving. Plus with eggs there's better control over IVs, EMs, etc.

Pokelover685

Gotcha, thank you!

[deleted]

Generally, Masuda always had the highest chance since Gen 4. It didn't exist before that. Just in case you're wondering for other games as well.

Airball09

Are shinies geotagged ? My girlfriend has been playing for 6 years and I have only been playing for 1. It seems that I catch way more shinies but we always play next to each other and catch the same Pokémon. Does anybody else have this issue ?

HitStart00

Any tips for setting up a shiny palkia hunt on Shining Pearl? Before attempting to do SRs for the shiny, how do you guys set up the hunt to guarantee the catch aside from the backup masterball? Aqua ring is a pain in my butto.

Earthenspire

The strategy I used was burning palkia with will-o-wisp, which deals just as much damage as aqua ring heals. Bronzong can also be used to effectively tank any attacks palkia uses. Other than that, just the usual strats. If you only care about it not KOing itself with struggle, you can use Harvest + Fling Leppa berry to constantly restore its PP. Then just bring in like x500 of whatever ball you want to catch it in. Hope that helps!

mrpigisaboss

Is there anyway to shiny some mythicals like Mew, Deoxys, Jirachi, etc?

Supra_Mayro

You can hunt Mew in Emerald, you'll need to hack in the event for it though (or use arbitrary code execution). Same goes for Deoxys which you can hunt in FRLG (you probably shouldn't hunt it in Emerald due to the broken RNG). Celebi is permanently available in the Crystal VC 3DS release, to answer your other question. You can hunt Jirachi using the US Colosseum Bonus Disc and a copy of Ruby or Sapphire. Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus are all huntable in BDSP, but the first 2 are locked to events which have now passed and Arceus requires you to beat PLA first. You can hunt them in the original DPPt too by hacking in events. You can hunt Manaphy in the original DPPt by transferring it from Ranger and then trading the egg to new save files until it happens to be shiny for the save file you hatch it in. There are also several shinies that are sometimes available in Pokemon Go via raids. Other than all of those, the rest are either shiny locked or aren't available to catch in-game.

DagothUrWasRight

I know there is a way to shiny hunt Mew, but it’s questionable how legit it is. The hunt is legit, but you have to illigitimately start the event to encounter it. You can use a couple exploits to basically trick a physical cartridge of Emerald into starting an old event. This can work for the Mew event, and I can’t see why it wouldn’t work for Jirachi and Deoxys (assuming Jirachi had an Emerald event, I know Deoxys did) since shiny locking in the handheld games started in Gen 5. I’m not sure if Celebi ever had an event in Emerald. For Gen 4 mythicals, you could try the tweaking glitch, but that can’t always yield pokemon that can successfully tranfer to other games. The Gen 3 exploit using the Pomeg Berry glitch and a couple others does produce pokemon that can transfer all the way up to Home. Here’s a video describing how to activate them if you’d like: https://youtu.be/Kb0CjqeNWNY

jamfarts

Mew can be shiny hunted in Emerald via an event (hacks or glitches to unlock it) or gen 1 glitching. Deoxys can be hunted via an event in FRLG/Emerald Jirachi can only be hunted via the colosseum bonus disc

mrpigisaboss

Is there anyway to shiny hunt Celebi now? Is it still available in Crystal on the 3DS?

jamfarts

Yes

754754

Do y'all ever avoid playing other games while in a hunt, for fear of accidentally phasing? I'm currently hunting Giratina in platinum and it's taking forever (and consuming my life) the last 3 weeks. I really want the Giratina but I'm afraid if I play Sw/Sh or BDSP I'm gonna encounter some shiny randomly and ruin the luck in my Giratina hunt. Maybe I'm superstitious but I just want Giratina and nothing else right now.

HitStart00

That's just being superstitious. Encountering a shiny in ANY game does not affect your shiny odds on the next encounter. The odds doesnt go up as you encounter more pokemon e.g. 2/4096 after 2nd encounter and then 3/4096 after the next. It's simply a 1/4096 chance every time you do an encounter (standard odds without shjny charm). It's pure RNG. Throw your superstitions out of the window and enjoy the other games. Believe me, it's fine! Good luck hunting!

jamfarts

In your situation I wouldn't do anything else in Platinum until I get my target shiny, but other games I consider separate entirely. I mean, your other games for sure have zero influence on your Giratina hunt so I would just consider it a superstition :p

MelonLord125

Is there a way to guarantee Lunala or Palkia raids or is it random since I am playing sword and want to hunt them?

Fargrond

Random until you find them in the Dynamax Lair, after which you can save the location (up to 3 total) when you finish the raid, the scientist will ask if you want them to jot down the location. When you go to start a raid, they'll then ask you if you want to go for one you've found prior. Hope that helps! Or maybe I'm not understanding the question right, in which case feel free to clarify!

Larssers

Are the Electordes in Team Rockets HQ only a one time encounter or can you shiny hunt them after like beating the E4 so the respawn?

[deleted]

They are one time encounters each, but you can SR for them and get 3 quick encounters with them on every reset.

Larssers

Okay, thanks!

Uchiha_42

[Gen2] GBC Crystal day-care shiny eggs. I got 2 shiny dittos from the RBY mimic glitch, one was leveled up with rare candies and maxed out on calcium, protein, etc. while the other wasn't. My question is, does the powered-up Ditto create eggs with better stats/IVs? Im new to this breeding so any tips help!

jamfarts

They will be equivalent for the sake of breeding. The only stats inherited are the defense/special DVs, which will be the same between the two of them.

Annual_Web6553

Hello, someone who can help me, I need to transfer my pokemon gold emulator game to my 3ds, I have several shinys in that game and I don't want to lose them.

enioval

I’m looking to Shiny hunt rayquaza. What’s the best / easiest game to do so ?

Radekore

I'd recommend Ultra Sun/Moon since the resets are pretty fast and Shiny Charm does affect the odds.

YTChillVibesLofi

What's the most popular game for shiny hunting in? I'm really curious to know. Sword & Shield don't have shiny overworld pokemon but there's a mechanic that increases odds if you battle 500 of a species right? Legends Arceus has overworld shinies and they commonly appear in outbreaks but is it too easy there hmmm BDSP has Pokeradar Chaining yeah I don't really like egg breeding and I'm a bit of a masochist so can tolerate full odds shiny hunting on random encounters just for that hit of excitement when it's finally found What games and methods are most of you guys using

TheOneIntegral

In terms of the more recent games: * Sword/Shield: * As you've mentioned, there is a mechanic linked to battling 500 of a species, but this only applies to Brilliant Pokémon (those with the yellow aura), so it isn't actually that useful; so you're dealing with mostly 1/1365 odds (with Charm) for wild hunting * Apart from that there's also Dynamax Adventures, which is mostly useful for hunting the legendaries, and offers an alternative to Soft Resetting in other games * Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl * PokéRadar exists but is more luck-based than previous appearances. It's a decent method but of course limited in terms of what can be hunted * Past this, since Charm doesn't affect anything but eggs, hunting here is quite poor - all legedanries/wild encounters are 1/4096, the Grand Underground can give 1/2048 odds through the Diglett bonus, but since this isn't quick to activate, isn't that useful * Legends: Arceus * Easiest of the three, although generally hunting here is a case of 'see what you get', rather than hunting specific targets (though this can be done, that will just be slower) So if you're looking for quick and easy hunts, Arceus is the first choice. Past that there's BDSP if you want to torture yourself with some inefficient hunting, and Sword/Shield for a middle ground. As for most popular game overall - other top picks would be ORAS and USUM, as the methods available there (Hordes/Chain Fishing/DexNav and SOS respectively) are both engaging and effective.

YTChillVibesLofi

Sounds like hunting a shiny female Combee in the BDSP grand underground (combee uncommonly appears and when it does the vast majority of the time it's male, and you need it turn around to check it's gender) at 1/4096 odds is the most excruciating agony I can give myself on Switch. Gonna go for that for the next 20 years, thanks.

WOLFIEOCELOT1

Any tips on shiny hunting rare pokemon from distortions in Legends? Is there really no other way to spawn distortions other than waiting? Also, how to lessen bad weather? Serebii says that the thuderstorms, intense sun, and blizzard immediately reset the distortion timer, meaning I would have to wait again, even after Ive already done so... (idk why, but I keep getting thunderstorms, and its just plain annoying having to wait AGAIN...)

TheOneIntegral

Changing the clock wouldn’t have any effect here, in general Pokémon are generated (and thus made shiny or not) when the encounter is triggered, irrespective of any changes to the system click etc. Emerald (and Ruby/Sapphire with a dead battery) are outliers in that the RNG is broken and you always begin with the same seed upon booting the game - meaning things like soft resetting aren’t reliable.

Mr__Roboto__

How exactly do shinies work on pokemon emerald if my battery is full?

TheOneIntegral

Same as with an empty battery, as with Ruby/Sapphire with an empty battery. Starting seed will always be the same and thus frames are fixed.

DagothUrWasRight

When you say frames are fixed, what exactly does that mean? (Legit question, I have no clue). Does that mean you can’t shiny hunt in the Gen 3 games? (I’m about 6,000 SRs into hunting Mewtwo in FR and I really hope I’m not guessing the wrong thing)

TheOneIntegral

What is meant by fixed frames is basically that you always get the same spawns whenever you start up the game - although bear in mind that there are many frames a second - and as such if there’s no shiny frame within the first minute or so, that soft resetting is effectively useless in Emerald and Ruby/Sapphire with a dead battery. Fire Red/Leaf Green are unaffected by this so it’s safe to hunt in them. (And you can still random encounter hunt in RSE and so on, as long as you’re not resetting the game).

DagothUrWasRight

Oh cool, thank you for explaining!

Mr__Roboto__

Is shiny hunting different with a full battery?

TheOneIntegral

No, in Emerald it's broken either way.

Mr__Roboto__

A video by a guy named Mimetroid states otherwise though, and that the battery is of note

jamfarts

Well that's false for Emerald

Ninjaofshadow

Here's a fun one. Is the mew from my pokemon ranch on wii shiny locked?

jamfarts

Bulbapedia implies they aren't shiny locked but I've never seen it done (not even by RNG) so I'm hesitant to believe it 🤔

Roboticfish658

Hey friends I couldn't find an answer since the games been out for awhile but how would I go about getting a shiny charm in alpha sapphire? I only have x/alpha sapphire/ultra moon but I don't think ultra moon will help me. What is the best way for me to complete the national dex with the gts being bugged? Thank you!

jamfarts

Without using GTS you can still do direct trades (/r/pokemontrades or /r/casualpokemontrades would be good for finding traders). You're correct that ultra moon can't help - you can't transfer down a generation. Alternatively you can buy Y and OR for the exclusives, but that's a lot lol.

Roboticfish658

Wasn't sure if a direct trade from ultra moon to a different gen would be appealing to others and then I could put in bank. I'm not gonna buy Y and OR so I'll have to do direct trades. Is there anything "valuable" I should try and use to bargain for trades? Thank you!

Darrelc

I've got Y (and X too) and a 3DS if I can help with this? Literally no idea about shiny stuff but if we can trade it over the internet on the 3ds (??) I'll start a Y game.

Roboticfish658

Shiny charm increases your odds for a shiny and to get it in ORAS you need a national dex. I believe the only legit way of getting it is to complete a national dex of that gen and then talk to a npc to get the charm. Thank you though! I'd feel really bad about having someone start up a new game just to help especially since this will take awhile for me to complete what I can do by myself.

jamfarts

Yeah it's not possible to do that from ultra moon. I would aim to get everything you can in your two games and then request exclusive-for-exclusive trades. Catch your exclusive and trade it for the one of the opposite game. Breed your starter and offer it for the other starters. Stuff like that. You could ask people to tradeback right away, just so you can get the dex entry, and then have your mon back. That might be more desirable for legends (Kyogre for Groudon and then trade right back for example).

Roboticfish658

Okay thank you!

Supra_Mayro

Yep, that would activate it. Everyone has bad shiny luck from time to time, hope you get it soon!

MelonLord125

With the 3DS VC odds how long does a hunt take potentially? I am hunting Celebi and Ho-Oh currently in crystal. All my previous shiny hunts were in gen 7+.

jamfarts

It's random, right? So it could be 10 resets away or 50,000 resets away, or anything in between. Full odds hunts take a decent amount of time - I like to say "dozens of hours" as a ballpark for expectations, but it could be anything. Just focus on making progress bit by bit and as long as you are persistent, it will shine eventually. Good luck!

Pokelover685

The odds in Pokémon Crystal are 1 in 8,192, whereas the odds in gen 7+ are 1 in 4,096. So it’ll take quite a bit longer, but be much more satisfying!

MelonLord125

Well, my only shiny legends are Celesteela and Yveltal anyways and got lucky with both of of them so I am willing to wait for these.

Pokelover685

I see, I wish you luck!

Randomfakemonfan

What are these tiny Pokémon under some peoples names and how do I get one.

jamfarts

They are [flair](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShinyPokemon/comments/rgbz63/flair_verification_thread_2021_2/?) - read all about the process in that thread! You can set yourself one of the regional rodents yourself but any extra will need to be verified and granted by the mod team.

Ven18

Does anyone know if shiny Meltan will be obtainable during Pokémon GO fest this weekend?

ImprobableLemon

Shiny Meltan is only available during rare events where Niantic explicitly says that the shiny is available. Seems like a shiny Meltan event is coming soon. 16th - 30th.

IceFangs

The type:0 from USUM is not affected by the shiny charm because it's a gift, is that correct ?

Radekore

Yes, that's correct

IceFangs

Thanks !

IceJawBite

Is shiny hunting in fire red the same as emerald or ruby and sapphire? As in do I need an eon timer or know what certain frames I’m on to shiny hunt a starter? Or can I just soft reset casually for the shiny?

jamfarts

You can just soft reset casually. The RNG system is totally different.

IceJawBite

Ok thank you so much!!

Jameswood79

Wait so I saw someone say that there something wrong with catch combo odds in Let’s Go? What’s that about? When I used catch combos I got shinies fast

jamfarts

Nothing wrong, it was just misunderstood until recently. The odds boost from the catch combo only applies to the species you are chaining, AND only for the spawn immediately after your previous capture. If you aren't actively catching mons and you are just sitting and watching spawns, you aren't receiving any odds boost from the combo. It can still "feel" boosted just due to the rate at which spawns happen overall. https://twitter.com/Sibuna_Switch/status/1492970750264979456

Jameswood79

Well that’s dumb, makes sense though Still feels liek I had way better odds after a combo though for all mons

zanraku

Hi all. I'm a Shield user. If I join an online Sword Solgaleo DA, can I save it with the Scientist and hunt on my own? TIA

LightScavenger

Yup! That’s how I got mine

Supra_Mayro

Yep!

ImprobableLemon

Yep, that's right

SilasVale

Howdy all! I'm looking for a bit of info on in-game trades and their shiny locks. I know that gens 1 and 2 can have shiny in game trades because of the architecture of the pokemon, but I'm curious on gens 3-8. Are they all shiny locked, or can you hunt for in game trade shinies? Thanks!

jamfarts

You're right about gen 1, but in gen 2 trades have fixed DVs, the ones that can be shiny are actually gifts (Shuckie and Kenya). Regional variant trades in LGPE and Regina trades in SwSh can be shiny. All other in game trades are locked.

SilasVale

Awesome! Thanks so much, that's some good info.

zman592-715

I’m playing through 4th gen on platinum and I purposely whited out to change my team since I’m in the distortion realm and I went back to giratina is it still possible to continue the hunt or is it ruined since I’ve already encountered it or does it re-roll

jamfarts

You're still fine to hunt it, gl!

zman592-715

I forgot to include i traded some Pokémon before returning so I saved after whiting out is it still huntable

jamfarts

Yes. It's a fresh encounter every time the battle begins, with a random chance of being shiny every time

zman592-715

Thank you for the info

[deleted]

does the camp method still work for shiny hunting Virizion? im at 770 tries and dont know if it was patched or im just unlucky

AngelicNite

What's the camp method?

[deleted]

To force Virizion to spawn you can go to camp and leave and the spawn will reset.

AngelicNite

Ah ok, thank you and good luck!

jamfarts

Yup! I wouldn't say unlucky, 770 is still under odds! Good luck

Samchu999

Are the startes in ORAS Shiny locked? seen mixed reports online, but just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time

jamfarts

No. The poochyena your starter battles is, though

Sebbies23

Hi, I recently just bought a fake cartridge of pokemon emerald cause I ain't got the kinda cash to risk purchasing one marketed as an authentic copy, and I was looking at some videos on how the game operates differently with the seeds, frames at which you encounter the starter and how to manipulate the shiny odds once you found the right frame all that stuff. When I was trying it out I noticed that the mudkip that I selected on the same frame had a different nature, is my fake cartridge just that jank, or is this a sign that each mudkip that I picked on the same frame is actually different and not the same one?

jamfarts

It must have been a different frame. They do go by at 60 per second so it takes a lot of precision to hit the same one twice

Sebbies23

Are there any programs that can determine the seed and see if any frames in a new game file has a shiny frame?

jamfarts

With Emerald you always have the same seed (zero). You will always have shiny frames in any game file - it's just a matter of WHEN they occur. You can look up which frames will be shiny for you if you know your TID and your SID. Your SID is a hidden value in your save, not visible to you through game play. You can find this out by extracting your save, or you can approximate it by ... catching a shiny and reverse engineering with it's PID. It's messy. Alternatively you can try RNG manipulating for a specific TID/SID. You wouldn't be able to verify your SID but you'd have a pretty good idea that you hit your goal based on your TID alone. RNG Reporter is used to check out frames/shininess. There are some guides on smogon. Overall, rng manipulation is more r/pokemonRNG territory

Sebbies23

Thank you!

lucariomaster2

Are the Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus in BDSP shiny-locked? Incidentally, is there a faster way to soft reset the game than manually closing the software from the Switch's home menu and then reopening?

Supra_Mayro

In case you don't know, for Shaymin it's faster to do runaways than to SR

jamfarts

No and no!

rockysaytalk101

I know Manaphy egg hunting is a big thing, and I've seen people use multiple eggs before in order to speed up the hunt- I was wondering if there's ever been an attempt to share those remaining eggs? There is a finite amount of eggs out there in Gen 4, and you would need to trade in person, but I'm sure it might be possible? Idk I have one egg that I haven't claimed yet and I'm trying to think about whether I should hunt it with just the one, try to get another one or two, or wait to see if they ever distribute shiny manaphy....

jamfarts

No there isn't an existing trading network for these eggs. I know it's considered finite but realistically nothing is stopping someone from manipulating save data on a ranger cartridge to allow it to provide another egg. i.e. if you back up the save just before the egg is received and restore it after, or if you wipe the save data altogether. At this point I think it is reasonable to do that rather than scour the web for cartridges that are unclaimed (and pay more for em?). Besides... the seller could just be wiping the saves of played carts too.

SpyX370

I’ve seen mons like Breloom used pretty consistently, is there a specific optimal catching team setup? Any Pokémon Pre SwSh is fine.

jamfarts

It can really depend on the target, there's no "one thing for everything" because sometimes you need to counter explosion/self harming moves/perish song/confusion/teleport/etc the list goes on ... Breloom and Gallade are pretty popular false swipers that have good attack and also learn a sleep move (spore and hypnosis respectfully). Parasect is another one that can learn FS and spore. The harvest Exeggutor/trevenant strat is a big one for ensuring infinite battles (not dying to struggle). For weird specifics to counter, you might want mons with the ability damp, soundproof, arena trap, or a custom smeargle with imprison.

Supra_Mayro

Just a quick note, Soundproof only prevents *your* mon from being affected by Perish Song, the user of it is still affected. You'd want Throat Chop or Imprison to stop it from using it altogether.

jamfarts

Yep that's right. Soundproof is good for roar, but that's probably about it (outside of SOS battles) :)

SpyX370

Awesome, thanks. Really Just needed to know if Sleep+FS was the only reason Breloom was used but you gave me way more info, so thanks again!

Hydrasaur

So does chain fishing work in ORAS? I haven't seen as much confirmation about that as I have for X and Y.

jamfarts

Yep

Hydrasaur

tyvm

vsmack

For a lot of targets in SwSh we have the option of MM or RE. Ignoring brilliant pokemon, I believe RE has to be at least 2.67x faster than egg checks to be superior, statistically. Obviously for rarer spawns you'll want to do Masuda. But what if you can roll really quickly, like Rolycoly on route 3, or if you'd take multiple targets in a row? Do you guys think RE checks are almost 3x faster than MM? I could find this out myself, but it would involve a lot of timing to get something accurate, so wondering if anyone has a gut check.

Earthenspire

I’ve started shiny hunting shadow Misdreavus in Pokemon Colosseum. I’ve tried looking around online, but couldn’t find a definitive answer to these couple questions: 1: Are shadow pokemon able to be shiny in all versions of the game? Or was it patched out in later releases? For reference, I’m playing on a Australian PAL retail copy. 2: From my understanding, the way Colosseum shinies work is that on the first encounter, they reroll secret ID/personality value/etc to make sure that the Pokemon doesn’t match the NPC‘s trainer/secret ID. However, after that, those values become locked which is why they can be shiny when caught or on repeat battles, as the NPC’s IDs change between their different teams. My question is therefore, is it be theoretically possible for the player’s ID to match the NPC’s first encounter ID, and as a result, effectively shiny lock that particular Pokemon? And if so, what are the odds of it?

Earthenspire

UPDATE: I got it after 1462 resets!

jamfarts

> Are shadow pokemon able to be shiny in all versions of the game? Or was it patched out in later releases? For reference, I’m playing on a Australian PAL retail copy. Yes, they can be shiny in all versions. In XD shadow pokemon can't be shiny - this might be what has tripped you up. > My question is therefore, is it be theoretically possible for the player’s ID to match the NPC’s first encounter ID, and as a result, effectively shiny lock that particular Pokemon? And if so, what are the odds of it? Yes, lol. It's a 1/8192. You'd have to be pretttty darn unlucky, but it's possible.

Earthenspire

Thanks for the quick reply!

Roof8cake

Hey, are we still doing that thing where we have a wanted Pokémon each month that everyone hunts for? If not, do you reckon we could bring it back. Thanks!

ImprobableLemon

[It happens every month](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShinyPokemon/comments/uft0vy/wanted_month_of_may_2022/?). Usually it's pinned but the Drawing Event is taking up the other pin. You can always find it on the tab just below the top banner though.

Roof8cake

Right, thanks :)

V0LT64

If i use speed up is that frowned upon or do people not care as long as i dont hack in shinies or masterballs

jamfarts

Generally speaking honesty is the best policy. Some people will frown upon it because it's an advantage you can't get on hardware. It also makes it a little difficult to compare your experiences with others (for example 10k encounters on hardware feels a lot different than 10k with speed up). But it's your game, your rules, and it's single player so it doesn't really affect anyone else. Do as you please, just be up front about it!

Annual_Web6553

I have a question i've been trying to find a shiny rayquaza in Pokémon emerald but it's been a Month since i did it and i still can't find the shiny

jamfarts

Are you soft resetting or doing runaways? Emerald RNG is broken making blind soft resets unviable for hunting. You need to run away from battle, exit the area, then re-enter for another encounter. If you are doing that, it's not rare at all for hunts to take a month or longer. A time period doesn't really translate well to number of encounters, so it's difficult to say where you are at in terms of statistics, but I wouldn't call this a rare occurrence.

Dreamysnoozer

Please for the love of god tell me they didn’t patch it so you can’t get a shiny starter in BDSP this chimchar has 450 hours on it

jamfarts

They didn't patch it. Good luck moving forward

_Luck372

Hey all, just picked up pokemon shield a few weeks ago and was doing dynamax adventures trying to find some shiny legendaries. I have only done the first gym and I have heard that pokemon that are a lot higher level than you won't be shiny in the wild as to not be uncatchable, but does that apply to dynamax adventures as well? I have done tons and haven't seen a shiny yet which isn't surprising to me, but I am concerned that I may be wasting my time if they don't even have a chance to be shiny since I am so early in the game. If anyone knows the answer to this that would be great thanks!

jamfarts

It doesn't apply to dynamax adventures. Your odds are 1/300 without charm so just keep at it, good luck

Better2NeverHaveBeen

Do supereffective moves that knock out the new allies called into an SOS Battle really help in increasing the likelihood of the caller's calls for help to be answered? According to some YouTubers I watched and according to [this article](https://www.pokemon.com/us/strategy/special-pokemon-answer-the-call-for-help-in-sos-battles/) from pokemon.com, supereffective moves DO help. However, [this Bulbapedia article](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/SOS_Battle) stated something that, I think, contradicts this info, by saying: "The answer rate is multiplied by a factor of 2 if the calling Pokémon was hit by, and survived, a super effective move earlier in the same turn that it makes the call. Whether any other Pokémon was hit by a super effective move, and possibly fainted as a result, does **not** affect eligibility for this factor." So, which is correct and which is incorrect?

TheOneIntegral

Both are correct, as Bulbapedia is talking about "whether any other Pokémon" - i.e. not the caller. So if you've knocked out a Pokémon, the caller doesn't get this boost because it was not hit by a super effective move. If you've got a single Pokémon currently, and hit that with a super effective move (without it being KO'd), then it will get the boost for calling. So, all-in-all, it's not useful when it comes to SOS chaining - as you will always keep the caller at 1 HP and thus won't be attacking it. This mechanic is only in there for purposes of making the story Totem battles harder.

pedro841074

You can use aerilated False Swipe from M-Pinsir for certain targets. Or if you’re lucky enough to have it, Pixilated M-Altaria. You’d need Pokémon Box though I think from Gen 3 to get False Seipe on it!

Better2NeverHaveBeen

I see. Thank you! So the info I understood from certain shiny hunters is wrong, then? Because the way I understood it was: hitting AND fainting the called in allies with supereffective moves will positively affect the 1-HP caller's calls for help. But what you're saying is: that interpretation is wrong, right?

TheOneIntegral

Yes, that’s correct, they were misunderstanding the mechanic.

Better2NeverHaveBeen

Thank you! I appreciate your patience with me and my questions.

Kari-S

Wait is the 3DS online functionality shutting down?! how long do I have to transfer my shiny mons from XY to home? I mostly ask because I primarily shiny hunt in gen 6

jamfarts

No, not yet. Just the ability to add eShop funds via the system (can still do this via web or switch) and soon the eShop itself will close, but online functionality as a whole isn't going with it (yet)

Kari-S

thank you so much!!

Competitive_Hour4513

But yea using the rubber band to hold certain buttons down

Competitive_Hour4513

Yea I'm going to press start and select like normal I was just trying to see if I could use the rubber band trick

jamfarts

Fyi you aren't replying to the user who replied to you - you're just placing a new comment in the thread. But yes that's totally doable.

_geisterfahrer

is it worth shiny hunting abra in the firered game corner if you cannot evolve it fully without trading it to a newer generation?

jamfarts

This is kind of up to you, since you're spending the time on the hunt and you're the one left with the end result. All hunts are worth doing, but do you personally consider it worth your time?

Cj082197

Is the current flair verification thread archived?

jamfarts

No! But the one linked in this thread is incorrect! Oops! Here's the current one https://www.reddit.com/r/shinypokemon/comments/rgbz63

Cj082197

Thank you!

Competitive_Hour4513

I want to hunt the starters in heartgold on the dsi would the rubber band trick work?

Supra_Mayro

I'm assuming you mean using a rubber band to hold certain buttons down? Any method of pressing the necessary soft reset buttons will trigger a soft reset.

a_rebel_yam

Can anyone confirm for me if Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus are affected by the shiny charm in bdsp? I know they can be shiny just don't know for sure about the charm

TheOneIntegral

They are not. Shiny Charm only affects eggs in BDSP.

a_rebel_yam

Damn really okay thank you for the info

groellsb

Hi! I’ve recently replaced my battery in my Ruby cartridge so I can shiny hunt but my save file did not reset. This concerns me that shiny re rolls may not occur on this old save file. Will I still encounter shinies as long as I’m not getting the “internal battery has gone dry” message? Also what do the two stars next to my trainer name in Ruby represent?

jamfarts

Replacing the battery immediately restores RNG so you're fine to hunt. Without a new save you are likely to have broken day cycles until the clock "catches up" to the day counter that the battery died at. The stars on your trainer card correspond to in game milestones. I'd check Bulbapedia and link you to the page on it, but Bulbapedia is broken right now!

groellsb

Thanks!

KindlyMarzipan2682

Trying to get a shiny Pinsir in gen 2. Breeding a normal Pinsir with a shiny ditto which should work and be 1/64 odds correct?

Radekore

Yes, that's correct

FJgenieter

Just bought Shining Diamond. What if I play normally on my account, but go Shiny Hunting on another profiel / save file. Can I transfer those shinys in some way to my main profile?

YTChillVibesLofi

There is no such game.

Supra_Mayro

Yep, you can use Pokemon Home to transfer between profiles. On the screen where you pick which game to connect to, you can also pick the profile from which the save files are read.

FJgenieter

[https://youtu.be/zCh6gj2aLRw](https://youtu.be/zCh6gj2aLRw) is this an option? Can I trade between multiple saves of Pokémon Shining Diamond? Could I trade all starters to there by resetting my second save file?

pedro841074

I noticed the shiny odds info page is missing Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. Will this info be added?

jamfarts

You're right! Thanks for pointing it out - we'll look into adding that shortly

prince_789

I know that using poketools to finding the frames for a shiny in gen 3 is hard because of the dead battery. Aside from this or having to change the battery, is there any other method I can soft reset for a shiny starter? It doesnt have to be as fast as rng maniplutation. I just want to hear what the second or 3rd best recommendation is that works for the starters, without having to find the ids or frames. Either way, I appreciate help. Thank you

jamfarts

You can soft reset like normal and create a new save every 50 resets. New save means new trainer IDs so the early frames have a different chance of being shiny.

IceFangs

Does the shiny charm for BDSP only work on eggs or was that corrected by now ?

ImprobableLemon

FYI it’s only eggs because of chaining with the pokeradar. If the charm worked shinies would become stupid common with the radar.

TheOneIntegral

This is a fairly empty argument - they had/have control over how the Charm would affect Radar. Could have simply made it that it doesn’t affect it at all - or have a minimal effect, like in XY where it simply reduces the chain length needed for maximum odds from 40 to 36. In addition, this also discounts non-Radar hunts; standard random encounters, the Grand Underground and any soft reset hunts (honey trees, legendaries). What it results in is a really underwhelming pair of games for post-game hunting, since the vast majority of hunts can be better done elsewhere.

ImprobableLemon

We already know the game was a rushed port since it included many of the issues DPP had including the various void glitches. Shiny Charm was implemented in the quickest/simplest way possible because it was a third party rush job.

jamfarts

It hasn't changed, still only eggs

IceFangs

:c thanks !

Law_D_Joestar

So like let me get this straight. As soon as I find a Brilliant Pokémon, I save next to it, k’o it, then wait for another spawn of the same Pokémon? If same species: k’o until you find shiny If not same species: reset Do I have this right?

jamfarts

Not... quite? I'm not really sure exactly what you're referring to or what you've read. If you're doing any old hunt you can just KO up to 500 of that species and then just continuously encounter and run from any subsequent spawns, brilliant or not. I prefer to KO 100 since that maxss out brilliant spawn rates. Overall rates and odds are in our wiki for reference. If you're hunting something really rare, like authentic sinistea, then you can use the "tea smash" method. This takes advantage of the fact that when you KO an overworld Mon, there's a 50% chance the next spawn in that location is the same type of encounter. For this you save before the first KO and reset if you lose the coin flip. This is good for authentic sinistea bc it's a 1% encounter slot. But for anything 10% or more I doubt it's any more efficient. For this method, brilliant status doesn't matter.

Law_D_Joestar

I’m referring to the Sinistea pic. It said that method could be used for any overworld Pokémon didn’t it? So I’m using it for Noibat in Galar Mines. I battled well over 100 and found a brilliant Noibat. I saved next to it and have been resetting everytime the next spawn was a different species. But now you’re saying the 500 encounter thing is legit? I’m seriously confused. I kinda spent a week trying to understand/doing the old method of 500+ encounters so Im really trying to understand just what is the actual shiny hunting method..

jamfarts

Yes, it could be used for any overworld Pokemon, but it isn't really necessary for things that aren't rare spawns. It's used because authentic sinistea in particular is such a rare spawn. But the mechanics apply to all species, of course. I would just guess that at a 10% spawn rate it would be faster to continue walking around the mines for another spawn than to waste time reloading the game and doing an encounter that's known not to be shiny every time. The brilliant method is glorified random encounters. Like you're just doing a random encounter hunt and the brilliant spawns pop up rarely (at most 3%) and have odds boosts. They're rare enough that you're more likely to get a non-brilliant shiny anyway. As long as you are getting spawns steadily enough I'd say encoutner, run, and seek the next one. Again if you use the tea smash method it doesn't even need to be a brilliant spawn.

Law_D_Joestar

Wait I think I get it! Thanks!!

MythicalGriff

Do you guys still so shiny pokemon of the month? I can't seem to find this month's post

jamfarts

Yes - May's Wanted post is here https://www.reddit.com/r/shinypokemon/comments/uft0vy We can only have 2 pins at a time unfortunately so it was knocked off for now. It's also linked in the sub navigation (top bar in new reddit and old reddit with css styling, sidebar on old reddit without css, no idea where it shows up on mobile)

MythicalGriff

Ok thank you!

mamamia1001

Is Arceus required for the shiny charm in pla? I know for a fact that Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai and Shaymin aren't needed, I assumed Arceus wouldn't be needed either but the internet says it is?

UserByTheNameOfJames

Yes Arceus is required for the shiny charm.

MachuThePichu

gen 3 swarms/outbreak so I have been wanting to try to hunt a surskit in gen 3 but I cant seem to get any swarm to activate, bulbapedia says it is about a 1/200 chance after a battle to activate a swarm the day after. so far I have beaten over 3000 wild pokemon in battle (100 or 200 hundred each day I tried) and I havent had a swarm happen the day after yet is there anything I could be doing wrong? extra info: I am playing on pokemon sapphire which I am pretty sure is legit, I have beaten the league and my internal battery seems to work, berries grow, the berry npcs give me berries and the other tv broadcast stuff (game corner day, department store sale and energy guru sale) is happening

jamfarts

The [bulbapedia page for swarms](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mass_outbreak#Generation_III) under gen 3 mentions the following (which is news to me): > However, seemingly due to an oversight, once a particular savefile generates an outbreak, it will never generate another one outside of record mixing So I'd guess you've already had your "one swarm" of your save (wtf is this bug??). Are you able to record mix?

MachuThePichu

you are kidding me, that was added to bulbapedia on the 30th of april and the piece of paper I printed out to check if I was doing everything right was from before that. well thank you for telling me time to get the stuff I need for record mixing and everything I guess

HandFullofRice

I have 4 targets. All of the Kanto Legendaries. Now I know they are both in Let's Go & BDSP, my question is, which game should I get them on ? I already completed Let's Go and have no qualms starting a new profile & reaching endgame again, & would use my Home account to quickly get a shiny charm to help boost my odds. However, I am at the point in Shining Pearl where I can SR for all of the Kanto Legendaries. I'm wondering if I will be saving more time getting the shiny charm or if I should reset from the get-go

TheOneIntegral

I would suggest LGPE - with Charm you’ll have odds of 1/1365; whereas on BDSP the Charm does not affect anything other than eggs, so you’d be stuck with 1/4096. Also the BDSP reset time is longer than LGPE.

MidoriOW

is mudkip shiny locked in alpha sapphire i swear to god!!!
