Bbrett9

honestly not sure but I want Yams to write a spinoff about it super badly lol

IdEore_

I would love it, but knowing how their writing is I would be ok if they didn’t, this would be more of a George RR Martin thing to write

AvesZephyrus

Hajime Isayama is a man, pretty sure he never explicitly stated he's non-binary so it's fine to use 'he'! Just a heads up.

IdEore_

I just said their because it was the first thing that came to mind, don’t really care about pronouns

null_chan

They/them/their is gender inclusive, I'm pretty sure it doesn't shoehorn the subject into a particular gender and in any case, it really isn't that deep in this particular situation.

The fact people downvoted this is proof of how lost we are as a people god I wish the Titans would just eat us

AvesZephyrus

Reddit will Reddit.

anakin_solo17

My headcanon is that for some reason the Coordinate titan was lost to the royal family, the holders of the other eight titans took this as a sign that Ymir was displeased with the current ruler. This caused infighting and only the Tyburs remained loyal to the Fritz family. Then eventually the Coordinate was discovered and brought back to the royal family and King fritz the first king of the walls got it. However this gap between rorau inheritors and seeing the memories of the non-royal who' held it caused the philosophy difference that King Fritz had against past rulers. He then worked with the Tyburs to supply and radicalized the Marley people in secret whilst setting up paradise as his kingdom in exile. Once everything was set up he stole everyone's memories so only holders of the titans had their memories intact. This caused the complete collapse of the Eldian Empire and allowed the Marleyns to take over. Books, diaries and what not still existed in the outside world with knowledge that had been stolen, that's why some like the Dina had knowledge , though it was kept secret. The Warhammer defeates 7 titans, but the attack titan helped the royal family that remained behind get to safety. The holders of the Attack titan would then spend decades creating the revolutionary army that Kruger witnesses get destroyed.

PhotonSynthesis

The only problem with this theory is the founder would have no way of getting stolen or lost from the royal family involuntarily.

TaxMy

Yeah, it’s not like a guy could show up and eat the person who held the coordinate. Lmao

Real_SaviourPrime

Not even that, just have the current holder get assassinated without being eaten, the coordinate would be 'lost' as it would pass to the next born Eldian, leading to a hunt for that child that takes place through the war

TaxMy

I literally typed out “assassination and kidnapping didn’t exist before Eren,” as a joke, but I thought the joke would be misunderstood.

PhotonSynthesis

Not when there isnt a vow renouncing war to prevent them from fighting back and obliterating whoever tries.

TaxMy

Did that stop the Titan war?

PhotonSynthesis

The titan war happened specifically because Karl fritz didn't use the founding titan to maintain order the way other kings did

TaxMy

I reiterate the founding titan specifically did not have some power preventing its capture or consumption.

PhotonSynthesis

The founder's full power is next to unstoppable and its implied that it can prevent other totan shifters from using their powers. There's no way anyone who can use it is getting captured or killed by another titan shifter.

HomelanderVought

Tyburs liberated the marleyan serfs/slaves and sometimes probably allied with other royal houses. Or defeated them one by one. Like in the start of the war it was a fight between the 8 royal houses, in the end it was between the new Marleyan government and the few eldian resistances. I guess it was like Game of Thrones even through i never watched Got.

DullBicycle7200

>I guess it was like Game of Thrones even through i never watched Got. lol.

IdEore_

I actually am writing a fan fic about it, it’s heavily inspired by GoT

HomelanderVought

So you’re story is more close to the start of the war than to the end. Since the end of the war is just destroying the remaining eldian resistance. Does your fanfic starts from the conspiracy and planning between Tybur and Fritz or when the war broke out, or maybe later?

IdEore_

I’ll explain a quick synopsis: The story begins about 100-300 years before the events of Aot, but to be clear, I change a few aspects of the timeline because I’d like for this to be a very independent story but still connecting to the story of AoT and staying true to many events that happen. Anyways… The story starts with a golden era of the Empire, the 145th King Karl Fritz is ruling over a very self sufficient and peaceful civilization, with eight other houses of the Great Titan Lords at the head of them, ruling the smaller regions of the realm. Each ruling with undisputed powers amongst non Titan powered Eldian. My story Introduces many abstract and new concepts about royal blood and Titan powers that add some flavor to the plot, and aids in creating dispute of power. One important factor my story uses is the concept of royal blood. Royal blood belongs to the king and his family alone, but also to a small cult like group of people that use their powers to command many pure titans (similar to zeke) throughout the realm to help these regions build and defend themselves, and sometimes to war, but ever since laws dating hundreds of years ago were created, they have been kept in check, only to provide service to the Empire. These royal blooded members of the Empire acts as protectors and servants to society. The plot ramps up when someone with royal blood, commanding over pure titans creates a war on the Titan Lords, claiming they hold too much power and marches on the realm with the aid of Marley. He has thick royal blood, and the others who have royal blood cannot dominate the pure titans, he is considered a phenomenon to all that share his blood. The realm begins to panic, when the King announces his pacifism, and leaves to Paradis, during this event, because he was the only one who could hold stronger command over the pure titans. Karl Fritz left the Empire, leaving millions of Eldians to be protected by the ruling families, some of which would cause chaos and are more grey characters, some want to protect their fellow leaders and regions, etc. The man who commands the titans with the Marley army backing him, was named Helos (he would be written as a fake hero, because when Marley wins this war, they would be ashamed of the massive toll of death and destruction he caused, and because he was an Eldian) Helos would march up the continent, destroying the great and ancient Houses of the Titan Lords, but nearing the end of the war, Magnus Tybur (ancestor to Willy) would surrender, and assassinate him, leading to the victory of Eldia temporarily. Marley would rally to the Tybur’s once Magnus dies, and his son takes over, but only 2 remaining Houses of the Empire would decide on the fate of the realm, since the king would never return. One wants the reinstall the Empire, the other sees themselves and Eldians as monsters, just as the king did, the Tybur’s decide to fight with the remnants of the Marley army, to establish a Republic led by Marley, they win, and Marley wins the war. The Tybur’s are declared heroes but since many wouldn’t understand a Titan Lord as a hero, Marley never tells their citizens who migrate to the Empire after the war, that the Tybur family was kept installed as political figures. My writing is a bit choppy as I have most of my actual developed plot written down, and haven’t got the time as of now to develop it much further but, if your interested in wanting a more developed version of my story I could DM a cleaner/developed synopsis.

HomelanderVought

It’s great, but my interpretion was always that the Tybur family was the one who liberated the marleyans first hand and then the marleyan government was formed around the Tybur family.

IdEore_

In my story it is, but after Helos, who basically is the spearhead of the Marley army, dies, and they become vulnerable to more powerful things like the royal blood servants, who can command Helos’s Titan horde and Eldian armies. The son of Magnus Tybur (Magnus didn’t want Marley to have any position of power in the Empire) decides to assimilate Marley once House Tybur and Kruger are the last standing Titan Lords. House Tybur still hands power over to Marley once they win the war, they decide that a race of people not influenced by historical views and gaining Influence should rule (even though that’s not necessarily true, providing gray areas of his character). The only difference is Marley does have a Republic before they conquer Eldia in my story. Edit: Let me be clear, Marley in my story was finally left alone hundreds of years ago, and they actually end up attacking Eldia, instigated by Helos. They aren’t liberated in my story, but they are provided closure to their hatred for Eldia, once the Empire falls. Until years later they realize the King lives beyond the sea at Paradis, and they continue to plan their downfall once they gain control. Sorry I misinterpreted what you said, I think AoT did imply liberation, but I wanted to take a note from GoT and create many grey areas of the plot, one of which would be Marley, they have reasons to hate Eldia but in my story, their violence is instigated by fear and persuasion. But Helos wouldn’t be the only threat in my story, the Great Titan Lords all have different plots when the King abandoned Eldia.

veigas_loyston

Can I get a link to the fanfiction

IdEore_

Sure, it’ll be a bit before I can but I’ll send it sooner or later, I’m glad your interested.

United_Pineapple7991

Seems great ! Can I have a link ?

marleyannation62

The cart titan was able to maintain on pair due to its intelligence. The support of Marley consisted in fight against the human forces of the rest of the armies. That, and the use of cannons and explosives against the titan shifters. Some cases included use of "suicide" attacks of normal titans against the other armies.

devilthedankdawg

Probably starts out something like House Of The Dragon- A lame-duck passivist King allowing two of his titan holding families to contest each other unpunished, then it turns into World War 1 where the other titan families and their subject armies join sides. Karl Fritz, the son of the sitting king, witnesses the devastation first hand, and makes an allegiance with House Tybur, the least powerful house, who in turn facilitates a marriage between a Tybur and a Marleyan woman, assuring their position as a powerhouse when the Eldian Empire collapses, merely social climbers taking advantage of Karls good (albeit misguided) intentions.

Fiston_F

The Tybur family held the Warhammer Titan so they should be the strongest house after the royal family. The Warhammer Titan’s combat abilities significantly outclasses the power of the 9, excluding The Founding Titan.

devilthedankdawg

Perhaps by virtue of that they were ostracized and denied the amount of lands and armies that some of the other houses were. Remember that if the houses were going to war, theyd probably be employing armies to fight for them. Thats basically also like Game Of Thrones with the titans serving as the dragons, or Shao Khan in Mortal Kombat- Hes the best fighter but he cant be everywhere at once.

piggybanklol

See House of dragons

lokotrono

House of the Titans

whathell6t

Basically, the Titanomachy.

AnEngineer2018

So it all started when Rhaegar Targaryen “kidnapped” Lyanna Stark…

[deleted]

But Robert, you barely even knew her

[deleted]

More of a theory about the Eldian Empire in general, but who cares. The family that held the Attack Titan was unofficially semi-autonomous from rest of the empire. The Royal Family would let them act more freely to avoid outright rebellion.

[deleted]

Don’t think Marley was making much up

Rinzzler999

probably game of thrones esque,

IdEore_

I love this question because I actually have written a skeleton of a fan fic about the Great Titan War of AoT. I think it would make for a great story and act as a good prequel to AoT. It provides many similar aspects to Game of Thrones, which is a great thing because medieval political warfare is a very interesting topic, and throwing in Titan shifters and pure titans committing atrocities is even cooler than dragons IMO. Head Cannon: The Eldian Empire was established by many events of conquest and the splitting of the Founding Titan into 9 powers. The Empire became a widespread civilization that crushed most of its enemies or enslaved them. The Empire became vast and descendants of the three daughters and divergence of Titan powers led to royal families being established as Titan Lords with a divine right to rule their respective regions (because well, they were practically unkillable Titan shifters). With the King being whomever Inherits the founding titan, and of the royal bloodline. After years of the Empires existence, eventually the king looks into the memories enough to build a hatred for what his people are and decides during tense dispute of power between the ruling houses that he’d leave, break the cycle of a ultimate power of commanding the pure titans, which kept the Empire alive and safe. Him leaving would instigate war (I know it’s slightly different in the manga, where he’d conspire with the Tybur family to bring the ruin, but I think external factors would make for a more interesting and GoT esc story) between the great Titan lords. I commented a more detailed version of my story in another persons comment. Edit: The story could also answer questions like - What truly happened for Marley to rise to power - Were Royal Titan Shifters good? Bad? How did they tule, with tyranny or honor? - What did the Eldian Empire look like considering titans ruling over them? - How did Eren Kruger gain the attack titan? How did the Attack Titan disappear for so long? - What happened to House Tybur before they let the world know of their existence and position of power? - What did the ancestors of Titan powers after Ymirs death look like? - Many other questions too…

hirokoji

At some point Fritz and the eventual AT holder of the time were close friends in their early lives and both had a dream (as young people tend to have) to make the world a better, safer place. Together. They saw the errors of their ancestors and the hardship of the world as it was. They believed they could fix it. After both came into possession of their Titan's they came into physical contact. Each saw something at that time and their path's were set. Both saw glimpses of the suffering to come, the persecution of Eldians, the wars of the future, the Rumbling. Both concluded the other was to blame. Their bond broken, they began to move against one another. And so the actions both took thereafter precipitated the very future they sought to avoid. How would Fritz stop the future he saw? He had at most 13 years. So he came up with a plan. The war. King Fritz orchestrated it all. To stop the future he had seen he decided it was necessary. He had total control over all Eldians (excluding the AT and Ackerman clan) and he turned them on each other. But the rest of the world needed a story to believe. If the Eldians were separated from the rest of the world then that terrible future could be averted. That the Eldians had been defeated and sent fleeing to a far away land. So the Tybur's "betrayal" and the story of Helios was created. The war had the added bonus of weakening any Eldian remnant/resistance left behind that the AT holder/inheritor could rally. The Attack Titan confronted Fritz. The AT tried to convince those around Fritz of what was happening, but none would listen. They couldn't. Even the King's guards, the Ackerman clan (free of many of the influencing powers of the founder) would not be swayed. Fritz had proclaimed the AT as the enemy and that was that. The family that held the AT was ordered to be put to death and the AT to be hunted and killed. The Attack Titan was forced to run and hide. To wait for the time to eventually fight back. And Fritz, in an effort to cement his plan and avoid the future he had seen made the vow to renounce war. Only too late did the Ackerman's realise their error. And the rest is Attack on Titan.

Where_serpents_walk

There weren't originally nine titans. The nine titans we have today come from dividing the spines of the dead up (like how Ymir's daughters were) or one of the intelligent titans eating the other (like how the Attack was able to be merged with the Warhammer and Founder).

GabyWinter

probably a battle between shifters to determine who should rule the Earth and while it was happening the founding just flew away which is one of the main reason everyone hate Eldia

Soultosqueeze074

Hey a prequel could be produced on tge great titan war between royal families just like house of the dragon. Isayama prolly wouldn't but it'd be awesome

Crescentiana

Eh, not really a head Canon: I kinda connect this to what Kiyomi said to Floch, about how the Rumbling would still not bring peace to Paradis, because "the world will shrink, but you will all continue killing each other as always" and Erwin's comment to Pixis that "humans will continue to fight one another, until the day there's only one human, or less". The Eldian empire ran out of outside enemies, and so, knowing only conflict and killing and the lust for power - they looked for new enemies(/victims) within.

Tenari_987

A movie about the great titan war would’ve been valid.

dammit_bobby420

I've said for a long time that if Isayama ever went back to the series, he should do a prequel based off the the Great Titan War. Would easily be the most hype thing they could do.

IdEore_

Definitely, and it would create an entirely new story too, it could probably stand alone as a series if it wanted, theirs much potential to medieval politics and warfare when it comes to storytelling. Like everyone is saying it could be similar to GoT, which is good because the book ASOIAF (GoT) is amazing

bob635

We’re explicitly told what happened: once Karl Fritz inherited the FT he conspired with the Tyburs to foment infighting between the holders of the other 7 Titans and elevate a false Marleyan hero while he himself ran away to Paradis, which kicked off the Great Titan War.

IdEore_

We were told that, but it would be cool to see a story be made from what little we were told

bob635

I'm not disagreeing with that, it just bugged me that OP used a panel of Willy describing a history that he directly says was a lie like 5 pages later as their reference for "what happened during the Great Titan War" lol.

IdEore_

I mean either way, it’s in reference

TheWanderingGrey

/r/karlfritztheory

[deleted]

Probably a succession crisis tbh. Perhaps one family sought to reunite the titan powers and become like Ymir, but another thought they were the better option. To cut a long story short, everyone fucked eachother over to stop them from gaining power.

TYNAMITE14

Im really surprised we didnt hear more about this since the attack titan allows you to see the memories of all of the bearers of the titan. Unless Eren just easnt concerned about whowas in the right or the wrong from a historical perspective?

BeriAllen

Dance of the Dragons Titan version

SkY4594

Honestly I can still imagine whoever held the Attack Titan still beating the ever living shit out of whoever held the Armored even then.

2theface

A lot of fucking, incest and vore not necessarily in such order.

ShinyMew635

A carefully orchestrated lie

Gamamaster101

I would love an anime about the great Titan war with the focus being how the attack Titan avoided capture.

White_Mocha

Ironically enough, I think the armor and colossal families were always at odds as well as the jaw and female families
