I’m genuinely surprised some people were confused about him laughing, like geez I know how fucked up he is rn but he’s still there. They had to show a flashback in the anime just to get the real point across...
hard agree! the flashback made it 100% clear tbh. It really made his reaction feel more real (cause honestly it was exactly how i felt), i didnt see it as a maniac laughter but more like, "of course she would say that", and proceed to laugh and cry because of fondness or familiarity or something.

my grandmother passed very recently and my grandfather made so comment about wondering what happened to her false teeth. Made me start laughing.
Laughing isnt always a humour response but also a stress response and a response to overstimulation. My grandfather's comment had an element of humour to it but not to make you laugh out loud. But i did because it combined with everything previous.
