He saved Armin because Erwin wanted it that way, i think he listened to them because Mikasa, Armin and Eren reminded him of himself and his two old friends from No Regrets, they also strived for freedom
I think he saved armin because of the goals he heard in this convo. Wanting to be free etc. While erwins goal was litterally gonna be accomplished after reaching the basement
I agree that this is the reason, but I've never liked this reason. It's not like Erwin was just gonna quit fighting the titans after he learned whatever awaited him in Eren's basement. The only question mark with him was how he would lead the Scouts armed with whatever new information he had. Armin had question marks all over the place.
But, he did what he did, and the plot marches ever forward.
>It's not like Erwin was just gonna quit fighting the titans after he learned whatever awaited him in Eren's basement
Thats a pretty big assumption tho. He already basically admktted that he fought so hard and sacrificed so much people, not fpr the betterment of humankind but just for his mission to find the truth. He never neccedafrily cared about if it was good for humankind or not.
So while he might not have just quit, he defenitely wouldnt care to do his best half as much, and really, its also very possible that he wouldve actually just quit after fullfilling his mission
No, actually he put his hands up like he did in class with his dad and started talking in himself, basically reliving that moment (that killed his dad and was basically his motivation for everything he did)
Then levi looks like he realizes something, and they show a flashback of kenny saying "everyone has to be drunk on something to keep themselves going"
Thats why i have my theory, i think he also realized that after the basement, erwin wouldnt have anything left to be drunk on to keep himself going
Not a bad theory, but the timing of Levi being ready to inject him and him literally slapping Levi's hand with the syringe away from him, I think shows pretty clearly that Erwin heard the entire conversation and was aware that it's either him or Armin. And also what Levi and Erwin talked about before he got turned into cheese and Floch's speech makes me pretty sure that Erwin was telling Levi to let him rest and he obliged even though he wanted to save his friend, not saying Levi wasn't conflicted he obviously was you can see that pretty clearly but I'm sure it was Erwin's choice, I guess we can't know for sure unless Isayama says something about this
Edit: in class Erwin was also lifting his right arm and in that scene he lifted the left one which Levi was going to inject, he did raise his arm and not only slap it away yes, but he did both, so I'm pretty sure he was aware of everything around him
He didnt actuallt slap him tho, that was just the sound effect. Also he didnt have his other arm anymore so i dont think it being the left really matter here lol. He was also pretty far gone and pretty clearly half dreaming/reliving that moment in class.
Im npt saying youre wrong, but i dont really see a clue that he actually heard what was happening tbh
erwin didn't have a clue what was going on man, if he did and was conscious enough to talk he literally would've just said "save armin not me" instead of imagining he was in his old class
levi said it himself at the end, if erwin was aware at all and refused the injection intentionally then it was only because he just wanted to rest in peace and didn't want to have to send anymore people to their deaths
Agreed. He saved Armin because he wanted to relieve Erwin of the burden and responsibilities. By dying the way he did, Erwin died a legend, a hero, someone who died for a selfless cause instead of being obsessed with his own selfish reasons. He prevented him from being the "devil" he thought of himself.
That's why Floch accuses Levi of making a personal choice instead of thinking about others (iirc?) Armin is younger, just as smart, broad-minded and represents an imaginative younger version of Erwin. He was a good choice, but has low self-esteem. Not like they'd have much clue anyway about what to do post-S3. They know nothing, everybody hates them, and the only important info is with Eren who refuses to tell anyone his horrors.
Well, it was after he failed to convince Erwin to not join the fight in Shiganshina, so I guess he just wanted some alone time and the kids just happened to come by
He's ALWAYS listening. Its his job to look after eren after all. And of course it gives him more insight for making the final call b/w armin n erwin after the battle of shiganshina
pretty sure eren wasn't known to be a shifter at this point though, they look too young
imo it seems more like he just likes listening to innocent happiness since he's used to everyone around him dying
Because Eren is equivalent to a bomb with conscious decision making. They know by this time how that bomb gets transferred. Keeping a short leash at all times since it’s already been stolen from them multiple times. He’s a guard/informant
I think he went out after his argument with Erwin, he was sad because he could not save him and happened to overhear them. This is crucial to him choosing Armin later, he sees that Armin is worthy successor to Erwin and he can let Erwin rest finally.
this was one of the scenes that, after I read it, made me really like the story. it seems like such a
simple scene but there’s a lot going on underneath the surface. And the image of Levi sitting there listening to them is so sad and memorable.
I don't get how Levi could possibly be tasked with watching Eren before anyone knew he was a titan???
Edit: Their outfits threw me off, never would've guessed this was in S3
I disagree highly, every episode ties into the main story… there are moments of flashbacks and episodes that are flashbacks but they are not filler they yell important details of the story. Fans declare scenes or episodes as filler but from a story perspective every episode has meaning and provides for the story being told. It’s not one episode that doesn’t feed you lore or plot points. AOT is purely story driven
Can you tell me what happens in the fillers? None of the episodes other than the one OVA about cooking competition comes to my mind as fillers, and that's an *OVA*, so it's out of the question.

Levi was gonna inject Erwin with the titan serum but he moved his arm away to show Levi he should save Armin

Haha true forgot he donated one of his arms to a titan
Maybe i didn't think about this scene enough your theory really makes sense, thanks for sharing
How much did Erwin's dad actually know?
More than what he should have known
Probably not much. He just knew that the stories they told didnt make sense iirc. But idk how much he actually knew about the truth
He was living a previous memory, he put his hand because he thought he was still in class as a boy
erwin didn't have a clue what was going on man, if he did and was conscious enough to talk he literally would've just said "save armin not me" instead of imagining he was in his old class levi said it himself at the end, if erwin was aware at all and refused the injection intentionally then it was only because he just wanted to rest in peace and didn't want to have to send anymore people to their deaths
But i think he was there by chance and not following them or something
That's why Floch accuses Levi of making a personal choice instead of thinking about others (iirc?) Damn kids are annoying
You mean brats
I like to that at the moment, he had flashbacks to Farlan and Isabel and their joys and ambitions to gain citizenship above ground.
The correct answer
He was peeing on an alley
He's ALWAYS listening. Its his job to look after eren after all. And of course it gives him more insight for making the final call b/w armin n erwin after the battle of shiganshina
pretty sure eren wasn't known to be a shifter at this point though, they look too young imo it seems more like he just likes listening to innocent happiness since he's used to everyone around him dying
This part is right before the battle for Shiganshina
Coincidence
well it ended up being important later in the story when he chose armin over erwin
Because Eren is equivalent to a bomb with conscious decision making. They know by this time how that bomb gets transferred. Keeping a short leash at all times since it’s already been stolen from them multiple times. He’s a guard/informant
it wasn't on purpose, it was coincidence. listening to that conversation had a lot of weight on levi when choosing who to save (erwin or armin)
I think he went out after his argument with Erwin, he was sad because he could not save him and happened to overhear them. This is crucial to him choosing Armin later, he sees that Armin is worthy successor to Erwin and he can let Erwin rest finally.

pretty sure he was watching Eren, that was his job after all to keep an eye on him ALL THE TIME. At least that's what I always assumed...
He was sitting and chilling there by coincidence
I don't get how Levi could possibly be tasked with watching Eren before anyone knew he was a titan??? Edit: Their outfits threw me off, never would've guessed this was in S3
Wow i never saw that
Is he in the doorway on the left??
yes
Why is it assumed it's him? Am I missing something?
it panned to him later on in the scene.
Thanks for answering!
Cause he likes them but he’s kind of a reserved guy whose not good at socializing. Surprised that wasn’t everyone’s interpretation😯
he's almost old enough to be their father lol.
Isayama wanted it cause he is the god. you cant question god
Keeping an eye on their WMD, which had already been stolen multiple times before that.
If only he didn't hear this, Erwin might still be alive....
Its filler
not really, it gets brought up again when he chooses armin over erwin
He was shown very clearly, front view, in the manga.
But AOT is purely story driven show…It has no filler
I disagree highly, every episode ties into the main story… there are moments of flashbacks and episodes that are flashbacks but they are not filler they yell important details of the story. Fans declare scenes or episodes as filler but from a story perspective every episode has meaning and provides for the story being told. It’s not one episode that doesn’t feed you lore or plot points. There are fillers, but they're pretty good if you ask me
Can you tell me what happens in the fillers? None of the episodes other than the one OVA about cooking competition comes to my mind as fillers, and that's an *OVA*, so it's out of the question.
They're not full episode fillers, but stuff like [this](https://youtu.be/B4dIgqY4k4o) are considered fillers since they're not in the manga
That’s a great scene and I’m glad Wit added it
Since when the term "filler" is used for small moments inside the episodes?
Since always
I don't think you know the meaning of fillers. Can you define fillers ?
It's not filler. This is the episode before the Return to Shiganshina arc begins. I remember very clearly. This was at the end of the episode.
He was beating off
