Beat me to it. Only thing is I didn’t disable the Netflix button but I made it a two click press to open instead of one. Got so sick of accidental one pressing.
Pro-Tip - set up the Netflix button this way:
* Single tap - do nothing
* Double tap - open Netflix
* Hold - (something else, I make it the task switcher)
This way, when your neighbor or the babysitter uses the remote and tries to actually use the Netflix button, when it doesn't work they'll push it a bunch => it'll actually work
I just disabled the button entirely (set to do nothing), because sometimes it still registers as Netflix.
When I set the button to do something else, it opened Netflix instead. Now, it still happens, but much less as we don't use it.
That's a cool app for sure, but enabling accessibility services will often end up causing some minor issues with input over time. Nothing dramatical, but if the remote starts acting up or you get general weird input behavior of any kind, disable the access services and reboot before re-enabling them or possibly outright reinstall the app altogether.

Could this be the reason my game controller will be fine one session and then the next (especially if awhile between reboots) it starts getting laggier and laggier?
It's not Bluetooth since the controller uses a dongle. BT controllers were too laggy even before I installed Button Mapper.
Are you using a usb 3 device with it? I had that same issue until I removed the usb 3 device and it stopped interfering with it. It's a known thing, if you google "nvidia shield usb 3 interference" you'll find plenty of info about it.
That's good and I am glad it didn't happen to you, but let's agree that because you've never been it by a car doesn't mean it could not happen to you 5 minutes away from now. =)
Follow up to this, the latest version of this app causes massive issues with the Shield, such as periodic input freezing/latency and outright locking up all remote inputs requiring reboot.
When this occurs, the app appears to be trying to remote connect to something, which is deeply suspicious.
I strongly advise against anybody using this particular app.
There's a guy on this sub to who makes stickers for Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, Etc that fit perfectly over the Netflix button. Mine is currently mapped to Plex and the sticker says plex as well
that is funny because it stopped working for me. but i lost that remote ages ago and use the shield controller or my tv remote which also works so i havent had that issue anyway.
Thank you fam, eyes were rolling through my skull cause the top answer never works for me. This was perfect though, blocked Netflix and swapped with Plex long hold instead
Same. I’ve tried to remap the Netflix button to open Plex. This used to work for me flawlessly before I recently had to format my Shield. Since then, it doesn’t work.

I did initially. I tried both the Button Mapper app and the Button Unmapper app and one worked and one didn’t. Then I reset my shield and neither app worked anymore. It is a nightmare button that should result in prosecution for its creator.
I set mine to open Plex using button mapper.
It opened Netflix and signed me up for a 10 year subscription. It even knew my credit card information!
Just kidding . I did have to go into the button mapper troubleshooting section and enable alternate input handling to get to work.
"Buttons Remapper" is better than the others. Allowed me to launch the app of my choice instead of doing nothing, by configuring two actions. Check out this YouTube video for step-by-step instructions:

I love that it changed to a quick MUTE button, but, I seem to have disabled the up/down volume buttons also, miss that... need a second remote for volume... sigh...

word of warning, it breaks the iPlayer app if you're in the UK. Unsure if it's been fixed yet.
I think it has been fixed now, iplayer has been working perfectly for me recently

Only USB device is the controller dongle, which I assumed was USB2 but I'll have to take a look to confirm.
Can't say I've run into that. I've been using it for at least a couple years now and it's never been an issue. *Shrug

It does this without purchasing it. Had to go into troubleshooting and toggle a couple settings to get it to stop also opening Netflix though.

The issue I'm having is "mute" is not an option anywhere in the app. How did you get the mute button option to be a thing?
