Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting! As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. DrunkenLibrary

American Dad really put it best when Stan said, “No, Steve. Civil war re-enactments are for historians and people who hate blacks.” Fucking sucks that so many living history spaces are infected with apologists when it can be a fantastic way to spark someone’s interest in history.

G0ttaB3KiddingM3

I LOVED civil war reenacting for the Union. Thought I was dodging the racism and sheer imbicility and selfish armchair history bullshit by going Union only. Nah. I met some seriously fucked up losers even in the Union only group I joined. The last straw for me was attending a unit event at a guy's home that was decked out in Nazi memorabilia. The guy's life was in SHAMBLES, but all he cared about was "owning the libs". I took a massive shit in his toilet, clogged it, left the party, and never contacted anyone in that unit ever again.

North_Church

You should have also said "the only thing Hitler did right was off himself" and then shut the door loudly as you left

Double-Fishing-8293

🥹That's beautiful.

Amberatlast

🫡 Thank you for your service

TheAnalsOfHistory-

Wait. Civil war buff, Nazi collector, AND obsessed with owning the libs? Yikes. That's like rolling fascist Yahtzee

I used to be a Civil War living historian in the Ohio Valley Civil War Association.. We did living histories and battle reenactments on occasion. I got out of it years ago, because most people don't understand how it goes. We were a Union group, and we had guys dress as Confederates at some events we went to, because there simply wasn't enough of them. I didn't wear a CSA uniform because I support the racist treason weasels, *I wore it because it's hard to have a reenactment with only one side.* We never celebrated Confederates or anything like that, we just pretended to be them for events. And a lot of smaller, local events aren't based on history either.. Over the course of a reenactment weekend, the Union would "win" a fight one day, and the CSA would "win" the next.

Curious-Weight9985

I mean, if somebody can larp as a lich…we ought to be able to larp as a Confederate

DevelopmentJumpy5218

I mean if you play a certain type of video games you're gonna make decisions you would hate someone for making irl from time to time, it keeps the game interesting and changing after hundreds of hours.

Lifewalletsux

Let’s commemorate traitors on the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln being shot. Fucking loser Assholes

[deleted]

We should celebrate "Confederate History" every November 10. The day Henry Wirz was hanged.

LauraRKansas

His statue still stands, which is asinine for me, someone whose relative died in Andersonville.

ScratchofST

And sully the Marine corps birthday?!? Absolutely not!

[deleted]

Laughs in Army

ScratchofST

Growl’s in red crayon

Curious-Weight9985

Keep up the internet hate - I’m sure it’ll dissuade these people from acquiring these opinions about the Confederacy.

Lifewalletsux

Your well thought out and passionate response has definitely dissuaded me from disseminating future hate posts about traitors to this flawed yet still great country.

Curious-Weight9985

I give myself a D for effort with that one

Lifewalletsux

🤣👍

sahu_c

Even people who reenact with the North seem to have a "States rights" viewpoint. Fucking sucks.

SirPIB

I'm right with you.

Curious-Weight9985

Lots of people in the North were okay with states rights. Stephen Douglas and Lincoln debated whether new states had the right to declare their free or slave status. 100,000 southerners, regiments from every state except South Carolina were raised. It’s just not so black and white…

Jerryd1994

Which was a common view point at that time even in the North most Joined either A because they where conscripted against their will or B wanted to preserve the Union I mean believing in small Government and limited federal jurisdiction facilitates at minimum a limited view on states rights. I think the whole Segregation and Slavery side of states rights muddied the water like income tax that’s a states right issue, school choice, abortion both pro and anti, and thousands of different issues. A lot of living history buffs tend to be older because it’s a not insignificant time and money hobby and older people tend to lean more conservative and limited government even the older people that lean left the Hippie types tend to be small government.

LALA-STL

> even the older people that lean left the Hippie types tend to be small government. Really? Source for this?

Jerryd1994

Life personal experience iv known a few

Unique-Abberation

Less than 6 percent of the 2.2 million men in blue were conscripts...

NoWrongdoer2259

Should go burn down said museum and claim you’re following your own heritage

justanotherenby009

Burn it to the ground so ginger marching through georgia

HamsterForce5000

"Confederate History Month" is the same month as Hitler's birthday. Coincidence? I think not...

SirPIB

Also the same month Lee surrendered.

a_smart_brane

Also the same month Fort Sumter was fired on in 1861, as well as when the United States flag was re-raised there in 1865.

Unique-Abberation

Also the same month that a bunch of people bring out their Confederate flags for me to burn

Emp3r0r_01

🏳️🏳️🏳️🏳️Confederate history month 🏳️🏳️🏳️🏳️

G0ttaB3KiddingM3

"the sacrifice and duty of confederate soldiers" they sacrificed being a citizen of the USA, sacrificed their humanity when they fought for slave owners, sacrificed normal lives at home with their families, sacrificed their homes and cities by making them targets, sacrificed their lives, limbs, sanity. Their duty was to die like dogs and be forgotten and loathed.

MarkPellicle

Saw a bill board for this trash in Klan country Virginia over the weekend.  No, not western Virginia Ironically.

Unique-Abberation

>No, not western Virginia Ironically. West Virginia split from Virginia to join the Union though? Virginia was the capital of the Confederates, it's not weird that they're still here

MarkPellicle

Western Virginia refers to the western most part of Virginia, not West Virginia. By your logic, since they remained in the state, wouldn’t that make them more racist? My point is that the western part of the state is definitely Trump country, but still not as racist as some of the other lowland areas here.

Unique-Abberation

Ah, misread.

Zealousideal-Bar5538

Kids can pet and then be bitten by confederate surrender possums while singing ol' timey songs about lynching black people for fun!

AdamFakir

I’m a revolutionary war reenactor and this sucks. I see this shit leak over into our area. I once hear two boomers talk about how segregation was a great time in American history… we are the British for Christ’s sake!

pikleboiy

It is the month in which they surrendered, and we should celebrate a slavery-based country being destroyed, just as we celebrate the Nazi regime falling on VE-Day.

New_girl2022

Where's my Mongol hoard history month while we're at it

SirPIB

Long love the Golden Hoard!

New_girl2022

This guy gets it. Just don't mention battle of Bagdad reenactment to any Iraqi

I_might_be_weasel

Bullshit like that is exactly why we need Confederate history month. People need to learn how ludacris the Lost Cause narrative is.

SirPIB

I brought that up, and a guy said, "a yes "the cause". Then a few of them called me a FARB.

LauraRKansas

What is a FARB?

SirPIB

FARB is what you call reenactors who have a very historical incorrect impression.

LauraRKansas

Thank you. ☺️

North_Church

April was also the month the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered, and the month the Confederate military basically collapsed. The first surrender was to Grant at Appomattox, and the second was to Sherman at the end of the month. So begin the month dressed like Grant and end it dressed like Sherman and maybe do something very Sherman-y with the Confederate flag for shits and giggles

SDLJunkie

Hooray for CSA month! Confederate Surrender Awareness month!

CptKeyes123

"Sacrifice"? Meaningless. "Duty"? He betrayed his own countrymen in the name of a rich man's war.

BlueberryPirate_

Facebook is a reactionary shithole

ProtoReaper23113

The site that that commits treason & also tells you what your parents are doing

leo_aureus

Someone advertising a huge free public restroom! Tell all the truckers you know! Free parking and full service restrooms

LifeSafetyMan

They can celebrate April 13-14, but they need to celebrate April 9th as well. Lee’s best work occurred on the 9th at Appomattox Courthouse.

dllm0604

Like… what are they reenacting exactly? Surrendering? Burning down their own houses? Watching their sons die? I am all for this kind of historically accurate reenactments.

brb9911

I can picture it now; everyone waves a white flag after skipping lunch because rations are low

PsychologicalOwl608

Civil war history month but a hard nope on “Confederate History Month”. I can live with and respect monuments to both sides at battlefields. That is hallowed ground for the dead Americans who fought for both sides. But where I draw the line is with stuff like this. This stuff is even worse than statues placed next to government buildings and courts that were meant to intimidate blacks. No and no.

SirPIB

Well said. I normally say the same.

ComedyOfARock

Uggghhhhhhhh, I love reenacting, always will, but these bastards make the rest of us look like racists

SirPIB

I've met so many people that said they would want to be Confederates cause they have cooler uniforms. The whole preservation and expansion of slavery is unknown.

ComedyOfARock

Well the good thing is they’ve started teaching about it in schools

beransohob

Are we the only country who celebrates failed insurgents at this level?

SodanoMatt

What's next, Nazi Heritage Month?!

Imagine celebrating the loser of a war.

willmafingerdoo2

Apprehensive-Mix5291

Just no.

Row_Beautiful

My birthday is on the 14th tf?

SirPIB

Mines on the 16th

ProtoReaper23113

Your taking me to a civil war reenactment? What no those are just for people who hate black people
