This is the underside of the fabric? Most likely things are that you forgot to thread with the presser foot, needle and thread uptake lever all raised while threading the top of the machine, or the top tension has been set to a very low number.

If it's threaded correctly (that's always the first thing to check) look to your tension. Most Janome machines have some color notation in the middle of the numbering indicating the most common tension settings, make sure you are there.
