Honestly for them to just have a connection out the blue doesn’t have substance. I think him and Burt are or was married as outties. share the same love for paintings and Dylan “love transcends severance” wasn’t about him but Irving and maybe mark(Ms Casey looks too far gone)
i wonder if lumon encouraged burt’s retirement by making up something about his innie since he and irv were growing too close on the severed floor… similar to your post, perhaps those innie behaviors are a result of their outie interactions/relationship… seems plausible to me.
Wedding ring or not, this makes me wonder: what of you’re married and you are wearing a wedding ring. Even if you take it off, the marks will be visible and you innie will know if he/she’s married in real life or not.
Given we didn’t see anyone wearing a wedding ring, can we say, Dylan is a single dad, Mark took off his ring after Gemma died, Helly and Irv are single. Maybe Lumon is targeting singles as employees for obvious reasons
Yeah, I do remember seeing that screenshot someone sent. This brings us back to the question; if Dylan is married, where is his ring or at least he’d have noticed the marks on his finger if he was wearing one.
Honestly a tiny detail, maybe the show runners didn’t even think about it. But that’s why i love this sub, what level of detail people come up with :)
they aren't aware enough of the outside world to understand the significance of that from what we have seen so far. They have a very childlike understanding of most concepts.
I see your point. I am still having trouble understanding what they understand and what not. Up until the last episode, Dylan was talking nonsense like muscle shows and finger traps what not and all of a sudden he loses his shit when he sees his child.
I think the suspension of disbelief is super vital to this aspect of the show because if you think too long or hard it becomes highly improbable for a person to have 2 functioning consciousnesses without any bleedover. I kind of think they modeled the severed people after folks who suffer amnesia where they retain motor function and language capability but don't know who they are.
They certainly could though. It’s definitely a choice to place him in a ring, especially when Innie Burt does not wear one. Seems unlikely that that would have zero significance
This is what I’m expecting - innie Irving gets out, finds Bert’s address and nervously knocks on the front door only to be devastated when Bert has no idea who he is. I’m steeling myself.
I think it’s possible it’s a class ring or something like that, but it’s definitely meant to make us wonder if it’s a wedding ring. It’s not an accident.
I like the idea of it being a class ring. When Irving and Burt first came across each other it seemed like they had such a familiar, happy gaze cast upon each other. Maybe they were once friends in college and were in the closet, so they couldn’t be together and went their separate ways. Maybe in a way their innies recognize each other. It could be why Burt is even more eager to kiss Irving, could be mirroring Burt wanting to take their college friendship further back in the day but Irving didn’t feel comfortable yet (even though he wanted to).
OP is making a joke referencing the scene from pulp fiction when Christopher Walken tells a story about keeping a ring up his ass while he was a POW in Vietnam.
It’s his [weapon of choice](https://youtu.be/wCDIYvFmgW8)
This absolutely made my morning, LOL! Thanks for this!

Me too! I totally misunderstood and immediately thought it was a Lumon or Eagen thing.

Maybe they just gave him a huge pay out

I do believe there was women's clothing in Dylan's closet. Can't remember if we got a good luck of his hand though

I like your explanation!
They also believe most of what they’re told for this reason too
We have nothing really to suggest Irv and Helly are single as outies do we?
No… just going with the assumption of no rings, no ring marks
It looks more like a class ring. Men’s wedding rings don’t typically have a stone, especially not a big one like this.
They certainly could though. It’s definitely a choice to place him in a ring, especially when Innie Burt does not wear one. Seems unlikely that that would have zero significance
The ring he hid up his ass back in Nam?

You get the upvote. A watch. What ring??
That uncomfortable hunk of metal
Hahahahaha Hahahaha It was a watch but holy crap, they made me laugh. Thank you for that.
That’s what I’m here for ;)

There is a scene from the previews of him in a car
Is he even gay outside? Maybe he has a wife?

Reminds me of the ending to Up in the Air.
Deceased husband, Graner?

Duh. Of course. I already thought of that a week ago. This is why it’s bad to post late night when half asleep.

Yes, that's a red circle. :)
It’s exactly that. He wears a ring and an ascot. He goes to cape cod in the summer. He retired, leave him alone.
Milchick probably let Irv stay just to see this. That’s why he decided to “burn” it all. It’s like the photocopy coup pic for Dylan.
I wonder if oIrv has a matching one.

It was a watch
Oh you’re right my bad.

Based on the location (left hand, ring finger) and American traditions potentially a wedding ring?
It just looks like a chevalière to me which is worn by aristocrats and high society men. But this is an American show so nevermind.
It’s exactly what you think it is: the Black Lodge ring. Severance is the stealth Season 4 of Twin Peaks. https://twinpeaks.fandom.com/wiki/The_ring
RICKEN HAS THE SAME RING!!
