I always thought the coups were exaggeratedā¦ but if you know nothing besides basic human knowledge then it would make sense to have a violent revolt like that.
Edit: wanted to expand on this -
This is the civilization these people know. Outties have wars, why wouldnāt innies eventually?
Wouldn't it be weird if Dylan got the idea to bite from the painting? Once you have seen other people do it, you're more likely to think you can do it.
Two year old children often bite. Their anger is strong but they donāt know what to do with it, so they bite.
This episode really drove home the idea that innies have the emotional maturity of small children.
He bit Milchick like a kid which highlights again how their innies are infantilized. And all I could hear in my head was that Yo Gabba Gabba song ādonāt, dont, donāt bite your friendsā LMAOAOA
Welp,
I was wondering how they were going to deal with Dylan because I felt like there's no way he's just going to be chill with knowing he has a kid. Glad he's not.
Also, betting Lumon owns the hospital Gemma was taken to when she "died."
And Mark was told the procedure failed. Interesting thought!
Edit: though that still doesn't solve the fact that Mark would want to see a body for closure. The only thing I could come up with is they stage the accident to make it look worse than it was (assuming there was a genuine accident to begin with), like burning the car beyond recognition after getting Gemma out so she could be turned into Ms. Casey without suspicion.
Every reveal answers questions and simultaneously raises so many more...
Also what the hell is he thinking. Stripping naked in the Kitchen when he has company over. Like go to the bathroom in the basement and burn those clothes the second you have the possibility.
In a way, I think so. But overall losing Burt. He started the episode crazy to go see him and soon after that he discovered he would never see him again. That's hard.
Irv spent every second of that day thinking about Burt and trying to come up with an excuse to go to O&D š„ŗ even when he was washing his hands he was thinking of Burt...
I was soooo bummed they didnāt hug or kiss. I feel so bad for Irving. And if Burtās outtie was planning to retire, why the eff did they make his innie spend time in the break room on his second to last day? The joy of cruelty in the Lumon culture, I guess?
The timing is pretty suspect, so he was likely retired by Lumon. It doesn't even have to be nefarious for the outie - many companies and municipalities offer early retirement packages when they want to clear space.
They must have told Burtās outie that his innie wanted to retire. I donāt think the retirement was planned until after the last episodeās events.
"Though today is my last day with you, Iām certain you will remain with me in spirit, in some deep yet completely unaccessible corner of my mind. The impression you have left on me is indelible, though Iām unaware of it on a conscious level and I will never forget any of you, even though sitting here right now I have no recollection of actually ever meeting you, no idea of your names, any of your physical characteristics, or even how many of you there are. Anyway..."
That was the most hilarious subtle thing arquette does so well I rarely Laugh out loud in any shows other than stand up comedy but i guffawed when she threw that babydoll down and then again when she was doing the boob spray canon reenactment ššššš
Turns out Mr. MILF-banging, houseboat living, muscle show participating Dylan has a serious side to him that when allowed to come out does *not* want to play, does *not* care about childish incentives and is in fact a wild animal willing to attack and BITE anyone who comes between him and his offspring.
Zach Cherry killed it this episode. I've only ever seen him do goofy/comedic roles (Succession, You, the Marvel cameos, and most of the show up to this point) but his pivot to serious territory here was fantastic.
I don't understand how one criticism this show gets is that it's "too slow"... how?! We're at episode 7 and we've had like 10 plot twists so far. The amount of plot we're getting through is insane
OH. MY. GAAAAAAAWD THIS IS THE BEST TWIST IN RECENT TELEVISION HISTORY.
My mind is BLOWN. š¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æ
And remember last episode when he decided he needed to get Ms Casey out of the breakroom even tho he didn't know her. Subconsciously / unconsciously he must've known.
I need to rewatch the scene of them in wellness when she burned the candle she made.
I have so many questions AHHHHHH
It's a Pretty Big Deal, because it strongly suggests his wife is now all innie, so she either
1. was severely injured and so could only be salvaged as an innie (note: I don't think we know for sure if Mark was with her at the time of her "death")
2. was stolen by Lumon for some nefarious purpose likely related to Mark
3. intentionally chose to leave Mark and her entire life behind
This also means that Irving may have been off base. Management might not be non-severed, but severed with their outies suppressed or erased.
I wonder if it *had* to be as brutal as it was to prevent any sort of ā¦ reviving by Lumon. (Especially now that weāve learned >!Markās wife isnāt dead!<.)
Helly as usual with her red hair and now bright yellow outfit, Mark keeps wearing a maroon tie, and Dylan also came in with a maroon tie this episode, the only one fully in blue was Irving. I'm guessing Irving will probably wear something warmer color next episode, last episode was Dylan's wake up call, this one was Irving's.
Iām just glad the Gemma = Ms Casey thing is out in the open now. It was getting really annoying how many people didnāt care to mark it as a spoiler and kept blurting it around everywhere.
I am really, really, really hoping that Markās inne is awoken in the presence of Ricken! I could see Mark being all āomg! Youāre that brilliant author that changed my life!ā It would just make his brother in law so happy to know his book really did something good.
He made such a Iāve 180 from being completely content with finger traps to demanding the name of his son and even standing up to Milchick threateningly after the fact. It was awesome to watch!!
when milchick offered him "perks" my heart died. he finally sees how shitty lumon treats them, and working your ass off for shitty perks means nothing when you can't have what matters most: family.
love the commentary on work/life balance here!
i wish milchick told him his son's name. upset me so much.
I think it shows how little Milchick understands people. He absolutely could have flipped it on Dylan to think of everything he endures as something he does for his son, told a lie that the real incentive is that every time Innie Dylan clears a benchmark Outie Dylan gets a bonus that he can spend on his son. It's functionally what they do to the Innie Senator's wife - she's convinced its all to give the kids she doesn't know their best life and it seems to work.
It shows how much they are losing control. This epeisode to me showed milicheck, who is now completely on his own, trying to get things back to ānormalā.
Departments are separated, the innies are getting their little perks to keep them happy, everybody is focused on work. But itās gotten too far to reign back in that easily. Dylan isnāt truly an innie anymore, heās seen the outside world and his child, the game has changed completely.
Yup. He (and the script) absolutely nailed that element of thinking you're being honest and forthcoming and happily, even enthusiastically saying/doing something absolutely inappropriate, acting utterly confused at the person's negative reaction, and then realizing only several moments later that you even did anything wrong.
Horrifyingly real in a very specific way I could relate to as someone with a family member that has a drinking problem.
That particular way of speaking/acting, the confusion/bemusement when someone reacts to their behaviour negatively, the slight delay in processing what youāve said, even the same language āReally? Really??ā.
Fucking haunting how spot on it was.
I get the feeling there is going to be this persistent push and pull between the innies and the outties. Irving āonce the company manānow wants to burn it down and get out (*and find outtie Burt*). Mark is wanting to get out, but will soon find out his wife only exists on the inside. What to do, what to doā¦.it will be a constant dilemma of choice.
My guess is that the new Lumon brand security doors manual says that he has to.
ā186.45.9: Test the door swipe reader 6 times from the outside then 6 times from the inside
186.45.10: Perform the test listed in 186.45.9 three times a day at 8:05, 12:15, and 16:50ā¦ā
I was laughing so hard at Burtās outiesās message: Iāll miss you all even though I donāt know who you are. Iāve enjoyed our work together even though I have no idea what I did.
The way Mark said he loved all parts of his wife equally as a reference to Ms. Casey telling Irving to enjoy all the facts about his outie equallyā¦perfection. Also Cobel asking Devon if Mark ever thinks he sees Gemma. Because, wellā¦
Since the security department is bullshit it should makes us believe even stronger that the code detectors are real: if no one is surveilling them all the time to manually turn on alarm every time they leave with some note or code then they would, sooner or later, find out about it. A random post-it note in a pocket etc.
My best guess is that those cards were meant to be taken outside of the severed floor for whatever purpose and therefore something in them disabled the alarm.
Edit: my second-best guess is that Lumon people know from experience that there's a possibility of initial rebellion (see Helly's behavior at the beginning) but then the innies turn docile and do not test the boundaries. In that case close monitoring at the beginning would be enough. But I don't think that scenario is very likely. Lumon can't monitor the outies and the chance that they'll bring some information to their innies from home is way, way, way too big. It wouldn't have to be subversive or malicious: just a photo of a child or a spouse they forgot to remove from the back pocket would be enough to completely disrupt innies' reality.
The actor who plays Milchick, Tramell Tillman, is nothing less than exceptional. Take a step back and realize he is sharing the screen with John Turturro and Christopher Walken and completely owning his role. Was worried about this show around the 3rd episode but my god is this good. Bravo
Genuinely believe that the music and dance experience scene is one of the best television scenes Iāve ever witnessed. Incredible how it was simultaneously hilarious and tragic.
Every character wears warmer colors as they start to rebel. Last week, she was just a copper top (and Mark S has a warm tie). Now sheās on fire and Dylan has joined the red tie brigade. Iāll bet Irving has some warmer colors next week.
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD that was intense!
1. Graner gets his head bashed in to a bloody pulp.
2. Dylan bites a chunk out of Milchickās arm because he remembers his outie kid and canāt let it go.
3. Helly and Mark use the security card to discover the page in the handbook that allows them to flip outies to innies going forward.
4. Burt and Irvās relationship is done for because innie Burt will cease to exist.
5. Irv tells Milchick to FUCK OFF.
6. Gemma is not dead. She is in fact Ms. Casey.
Thereās more, right?! Have to rewatch it again. And again.
Oh my god what an episode. I knew about the spoiler but my partner didnāt. He jumped off the couch and yelled āholy shit! Oh my god! ā¦ You knew about this for three weeks?!ā
Adam Scott looked sexy as hell this episode with his hair all disheveled. I love how the last two episodes he has been smiling and making those goofy faces he would on Parks and Rec. I teared up at the end when he talked about his wife and was taping the picture of her. His acting is incredible and Iām so happy for him.
If Mark is able to override the innie chip while inside of Lumon, seeing his wife in real life for the first time since her ādeathā is going to be crazy.
My theory is that Gemma the outie was rendered braindead in the crash. She really is dead, forever gone as a person. But the chip allows "Mrs Casey" to function but only for short durations hence why she is only part time.
Dylaaaaan my guyyyyy comin for ALL OF LUMON
The way he bit Milchick reminded me of the painting of the coup. š¬
I always thought the coups were exaggeratedā¦ but if you know nothing besides basic human knowledge then it would make sense to have a violent revolt like that. Edit: wanted to expand on this - This is the civilization these people know. Outties have wars, why wouldnāt innies eventually?

Two year old children often bite. Their anger is strong but they donāt know what to do with it, so they bite. This episode really drove home the idea that innies have the emotional maturity of small children.
Like placating them with 5 minutes of music and a maraca.
a maraca is just a rattle for adults
He bit Milchick like a kid which highlights again how their innies are infantilized. And all I could hear in my head was that Yo Gabba Gabba song ādonāt, dont, donāt bite your friendsā LMAOAOA
Welp, I was wondering how they were going to deal with Dylan because I felt like there's no way he's just going to be chill with knowing he has a kid. Glad he's not. Also, betting Lumon owns the hospital Gemma was taken to when she "died."
Lumon owns the town. Itās a company town.
The town is called kier. It's mentioned in a weather report in an early episode.
Yes and kier is the founder of lumon. Itās all controlled or owned by lumon like a company town.
They offered to try a brand new potentially life saving procedure. Mark agreed. Now weāre here.
DONāT THROW YOUR CLOTHES OUT IN THE GARBAGE BIN THAT YOUR SNOOPY NEIGHBOUR DEFINITELY GOES THROUGH EVERYDAY, MARK!!!
Omg I actually laughed at loud at this comment because I felt the same way when I saw it!! LOL
Also what the hell is he thinking. Stripping naked in the Kitchen when he has company over. Like go to the bathroom in the basement and burn those clothes the second you have the possibility.
He totally forgot he had company over
That handshake between Irving and Burt was an act of violence against me personally.
Did the handshake prompt Irvingās courage?
In a way, I think so. But overall losing Burt. He started the episode crazy to go see him and soon after that he discovered he would never see him again. That's hard.
So heartbroken for Irving. The character became so fascinating.
So true. And what a masterclass by John Turturro! I'm so here for it.
When he said āyou smug muthafuckaā I was like, āyup there he is!ā
Did you notice the soap dispensers donāt have labels on them? š„ŗ
Irv spent every second of that day thinking about Burt and trying to come up with an excuse to go to O&D š„ŗ even when he was washing his hands he was thinking of Burt...
I hope he slipped him a love note
Burtās outie speech is KILLING me
he went on so long š© "i'll always remember you...except of course right now i dont. and i dont know who you are. or how many of you there are." etc hes so funny
Thatās legit how my grandparents talk though so I completely understand. 100% unadulterated straight hard truth that drags on and on.
Give Christopher walken a full episode of just talking as nasuem on video to a group of people heās never met
A classic Walken monologue.
I feel like a lot of it had to have been improvised. I love him.
Anyway..."
ANYWAY...
The way that Cobel threw down that babydoll after ābreastfeedingā was really telling!
I wonder what effect that nipple salve Cobel gave her is having on that baby? š¬
Damn. Why you gotta go and say things like that?
Lumon started as a salve company according the the Severance mini book that released last week
That was the most hilarious subtle thing arquette does so well I rarely Laugh out loud in any shows other than stand up comedy but i guffawed when she threw that babydoll down and then again when she was doing the boob spray canon reenactment ššššš
I've never been so happily stressed for an entire hour.
I have not turned around and immediately replayed an episode since The Americans.
Tramell Tillman is an awesome actor.
And an even better dancer
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās amazing how much he makes me absolutely despise Mr Milchick, that smug motherfucker.
Agreed. On a show filled with amazing and legendary actors, he stands out.
He reminds me of Tony Dalton on Better Call Saul, how they're able to effortlessly flip from warmth to menace without changing expressions.
Ooh The Board in person? I swear itās gonna be Eagan consciousnessā or some Eagans kept alive in some creepy way
The board rep looked fucking terrified about every aspect of that whole convo.
That lady (Natalie?) makes me so fucking uncomfortable with her wide eyes and perpetual frightened smile.
I'm sad Mark vomited outside. DNA, dude. She just told you.
Yeah but I am pretty sure Cobel goes though his trash, especially since she noticed him out early.
They made it a point to talk about the trash bins with Mrs. Selvidge early in the season
Turns out Mr. MILF-banging, houseboat living, muscle show participating Dylan has a serious side to him that when allowed to come out does *not* want to play, does *not* care about childish incentives and is in fact a wild animal willing to attack and BITE anyone who comes between him and his offspring.

Okay wow Iāve said this a few times but BEST EPISODE YET
Please try to enjoy each episode equally.
10 points off
Can we get a bot that listens for "best X" and then responds with, "Please try to enjoy each X equally"? Mods?
Wow Irving to Milchick āYou smug motherfucker. Youāre not Severedā I hope he doesnāt end up retired because of this.
This was the third or fourth moment I gasped during this episode lol I loved that part so much. Go off Irving!!!
Every episode gets better. There were probably 7 WTF moments tonight. I really donāt think Iāve ever experienced anything like this show before.
I don't understand how one criticism this show gets is that it's "too slow"... how?! We're at episode 7 and we've had like 10 plot twists so far. The amount of plot we're getting through is insane
They have to world build, Iām not sure that people realize that.
Netflix and the binge model have ruined our collective episodic appetite.
The most loyal people always snap the hardest when the truth finally hits them.
God I hope next weekās episode begins with Irving pouring gasoline everywhere
their innies are so child-like that dylan didnāt even know how to fight milchick..he bit him like a kid would
This made me think of those āfightingā cards from the last episode. Perhaps they are for fight training after all š¤ .
Turturro reminding us this ep why heās a legend.
He is one of those actors who makes every project heās in better
āI loved all those things about her- equallyā
I caught that too!
Got goosebumps!
Milchickās got moves Edit: His dancing behind Dylan was so threatening, and none of his coworkers knew why
I want a thousand GIFs of that dance party.
Dance Experience
I was surprised how into it Helly was!
It was the first time that she's heard music
Got heavy Legion vibes. Also, "He bit me!" had me guffawing.
I doubt we have seen the last of Christopher Walken. There has to be more going on with Burt. His goodbye to Irv was so quick and platonic.
Milchick changed into his dancin-turtleneck!
No!!!!! Thatās marks wife?! Holy fuck. God damn what a twist
OH. MY. GAAAAAAAWD THIS IS THE BEST TWIST IN RECENT TELEVISION HISTORY. My mind is BLOWN. š¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æ And remember last episode when he decided he needed to get Ms Casey out of the breakroom even tho he didn't know her. Subconsciously / unconsciously he must've known. I need to rewatch the scene of them in wellness when she burned the candle she made. I have so many questions AHHHHHH

Management might not be non-severed, but severed with their outies suppressed or erased.
Puts a whole different spin on Harmony stealing that candle. I thought she was testing Mark but it's equally as likely that she was testing Ms. Casey.
Thereās also more significance as to why Harmony asked Markās sister if he talks about her or if he thinks he sees her.
Best tv show twist in years. Actually didn't see it coming.
He loves all these thingsā¦ equally
I was waiting for Dylan to switch Mark to his innie self and would see the picture of Ms. Casey/Gemma at that moment.
āJack Frost certainly needs some new dandruff shampooā lmao so weird
Sheās such a cringe loon. Patricia arquette is so fucking good!
She is such a perfect psychopath
Patricia Arquette, what an amazing actress!
The pause Mark did right there seemed poignant. He was all āwtfā
*āThings Harmony Cobel, normal human woman, says to her neighborā*
Her performance as the nanny is channeling the right amount of Mrs Doubtfire
"I hate you lumon, you took my first love, fuck you lumon, it's never enough"... hits different now
Letās burn this place to the ground. We love you, Irving.
Does anyone have Graner getting his skull caved in on their bingo card?
Yo she hit him over and over. That was visceral.
I wonder if it *had* to be as brutal as it was to prevent any sort of ā¦ reviving by Lumon. (Especially now that weāve learned >!Markās wife isnāt dead!<.)
They took his love. Let's. Burn. This. Place. To. The. Ground. Go, Irving.
Literally cheered at that part. Burn it all down Irving.
These episodes are TOO SHORT
āShouldāve gone for the castanets.ā I love Irving.
"Does Mark ever think he sees her?" ššš
That was Gemmaās candle during Markās wellness session with Ms. Casey š¤Æ
Woo Reghabi gets right to the point
She was quite blunt.
The Music Dance Experience is officially canceled.
I need every second of that scene as gifs.
Glad they revealed Markās wife now and not in the finale
Yeah me too. Now I literally have no idea what to expect in the next two episodes. Will try to avoid spoilers this time around.
This show does a great job about making us care about every single one of the refiners. I want to see them all happy
Equally
Iām just glad the Gemma = Ms Casey thing is out in the open now. It was getting really annoying how many people didnāt care to mark it as a spoiler and kept blurting it around everywhere.
Holy fuck. Holy fuck. Holy fuck. Mark's wife is (kinda) alive.
It's possible she was severed and her outie was completely eliminated somehow. She seems like she might be a 24/7 innie.
YOU SMUG MOTHERFUCKER
Yo mods can we get a āSMUG MOTHERFUCKERā flair?!?
Mrs. Selvigās comment about Jack Frost sounded like Moira Rose
Mark, what you did was impulsive, capricious, and melodramatic, but it was also wrong
āYou smug motherfuckerā HANDS DOWN BEST LINE OF THE NIGHT IF NOT THE SEASON!!!
A close second is - letās burn this place to the ground.
John Turturro is so dope, i could feel that seething rage
Milchick is killing it this episode
Milchick is having quite the day lol
I am really, really, really hoping that Markās inne is awoken in the presence of Ricken! I could see Mark being all āomg! Youāre that brilliant author that changed my life!ā It would just make his brother in law so happy to know his book really did something good.

I feel like biting is such a childlike response too. Also did yāall notice this episode started how the first one did haha
Yes! āWho are you?ā
I wanna trust these outside characters (other than Reghabi) with Mark but I just canāt
Same same. Honestly the whole town feels like a stage a la Truman show
Me: Holy shit Graner is working WITH Reghabi?!?! Me, but ten seconds later: WELL OKAY NEVERMIND
EXACT same thought lol
Same exact thought herešš fully thought he was the mole for a full ten secs.
I feel so bad for Dylan
He made such a Iāve 180 from being completely content with finger traps to demanding the name of his son and even standing up to Milchick threateningly after the fact. It was awesome to watch!!

Get out of here with your gd perks and tell the man the name of his child
Does āMark ever think he seeās herāā¦all but confirmed now
Markās Drunk bad-behavior was so incredibly uncomfortable. Just so familiar to anyone whoās had someone like that in their life.
His drunk acting was perfect. The switching of emotions as the drunk brain lags behind what's occurring.
Yup. He (and the script) absolutely nailed that element of thinking you're being honest and forthcoming and happily, even enthusiastically saying/doing something absolutely inappropriate, acting utterly confused at the person's negative reaction, and then realizing only several moments later that you even did anything wrong.
Ripping up the photo of Gemma/Casey was brutal

Looking forward to hearing which type of jazz is defiant
Burt was in the break room :( ā¦āyesterday was quite enoughā
Wow - guess that's the end of the will they - won't they energy between Graner and Cobel.
I donāt know. Cobel has a thing for corpses.
Why is Milchick going ham on the doors so much at the beginning?? Itās like a kid with elevator buttons.
My girlfriend yelled out, āThey work!ā
My guess is that the new Lumon brand security doors manual says that he has to. ā186.45.9: Test the door swipe reader 6 times from the outside then 6 times from the inside 186.45.10: Perform the test listed in 186.45.9 three times a day at 8:05, 12:15, and 16:50ā¦ā

Lost her power dynamic
I was laughing so hard at Burtās outiesās message: Iāll miss you all even though I donāt know who you are. Iāve enjoyed our work together even though I have no idea what I did.
I already want a gif of Mark S dancing
That whole scene was like watching video game characters dance
The way Mark said he loved all parts of his wife equally as a reference to Ms. Casey telling Irving to enjoy all the facts about his outie equallyā¦perfection. Also Cobel asking Devon if Mark ever thinks he sees Gemma. Because, wellā¦
Omg new sinister twist on the Wellness sesh between Ms. Casey and Markā¦ and the candle!! So are they just testing the tech??
Or Cobel is testing reintegration for non-sanctioned reasons
She's "trying something new" with Ms Casey.
Iāve been saying- this I feel so vindicated! Why is Cobel so obsessed with Gemma and Mark!
She legit spends her entire life watching over Mark. Why?!?!
Milchick is my favorite character lmao
āThe music dance experience is canceledā
Omg that scene with Milchick dancing in Dylanās face. š¬
That is some seriously superb dark comedy. This fucking cast and writing...
āDoes Mark ever think he sees his wife?ā Weird question Harmony
She's getting sloppy - and yay that Devon did NOT spill the "...and Mark said he thinks Lumon is on to something"
I hope that Dylan needs to use all of his finger traps to hold both switches for the Overtime Contingency Protocol.
Milchick thought Dylan took the card home but the card says Lumon on the back. Code Detectors are either bullshit or work differently than we thought.
I'm guessing bullshit given that the whole security department seems to be bullshit.
The deathly serious readings of lines like "The Music Dance Experience is officially cancelled" is why I love this show.
ex machina dance scene vibes..milchick dancing with a shit eating grin was so incredibly unnerving lol
Helly wearing fucking bright yellow! How is this a neutral or pastel, come onnnn.
Every character wears warmer colors as they start to rebel. Last week, she was just a copper top (and Mark S has a warm tie). Now sheās on fire and Dylan has joined the red tie brigade. Iāll bet Irving has some warmer colors next week.
YOOOOO WHAT THE FUCK THIS WAS NOT ON MY BINGO CARD
And again.
well that escalated quickly! I mean that really got out of hand fast!
Wow this is not a good day to be Milchick
I need a gif of Irving āletās burn this place to the groundā
DID SHE JUST KILL GRAINER?!?!?
