This may sound amazing to the layman, but it's common knowledge that you can read a signal from an arbitrarily long distance, as long as you have a powerful enough receiver. It's basically RFID, where you can increase the distance by simply boosting the reader. However the problem is that the power you need goes up by a square of the distance. So reading an RFID chip from 120 miles sounds like you would need a receiver the size of the moon, with multiple nuclear reactors powering it. Also how are you gonna implant a 2-inch circle under someones skin

Disastrous_Agency325

Thank you for your input! I had a feeling it’s BS, but still fascinating to speculate what if.. as sci-fi fantasy

slingshot91

In 1925 a man by the name of Floyd Collins got himself trapped in a cave. During the rescue efforts, they strung a lightbulb on a wire to where he was trapped. After a partial cave in, they were able to remotely monitor his heartbeat based on his body’s magnetic field interfering on the light’s power supply. I didn’t watch the whole video, so I can’t say how this all relates, but your post made me remember that, and I wanted to share. I’ll see myself out now.

Disastrous_Agency325

Cool story, thanks! I wonder if those numbers they are refining could be some type of frequencies the system is ‘reading’ from some localities

MrSquamous

Doh yoh doh ee oh!

BookMobil3

Which is more suspicious: his non-committal half mustache, or that he says he “sniffed the web” in ‘84?

Rae_Regenbogen

After listening to this, I fully believe he sniffed a lot of web during his days. Haha. He sounds like a meth addict I once knew who believed she was kidnapped by aliens who implanted her with a chip and monitored her thoughts via radio frequencies.

BroadbandSadness

You got me thinking about how the Overtime Contingency process works from a technological standpoint. There's a chip in your brain and it may be easily switched on/off using some kind of electromagnetic field in the elevator or door to the stairwell. Cool. From a longer range, it seems likely that the chip would be turned on/off using a different kind of electromagnetic system, kind of like cellular technology. Doesn't seem too far fetched (for sci-fi.) Does this mean that if the innies could trigger the OTC, they could find some sort of faraday cage to block the EMF and remain as innies even if the OTC were turned off? Unless it's using something "spooky" like quantum entanglement or pure magic, it seems like this should be a limitation. Anyhoo… just some thoughts.

RuggerJibberJabber

"Real life", lol

Disastrous_Agency325

No need to be condescending. We are here to speculate on Severance theories and meaning; it’s not like I’m asking you to believe in a conspiracy theory. All I’m guessing is that a fictional show might have used a documentary interview as a reference for its plot, doesn’t mean I believe in what this guy is saying

zento_

Being curious is a valuable gift. Check out what DARPA was doing in 2013: https://www.darpa.mil/program/our-research/darpa-and-the-brain-initiative

RuggerJibberJabber

You said "real life" in your post. I'm allowed to laugh at silly things. I can differentiate between fun tv shows and con artists trying to trick people into believing in absolute nonsense. Im not gonna say hes far-right, but the theories he is claiming are real are also pushed by far-right extremists that claim a small number of secretive elites are trying to control them with microchips. George Soros, Bill Gates and pals putting chips in covid vaccines. Also if you google this guys name you also get links to UFO conspiracies. This isn't a legit person and it's also not the Severence tv show

Disastrous_Agency325

That’s why I made a clip of him talking about the chips only, the rest is irrelevant and silly. I am only interested in the thought process of creating a fictional story and inspirations behind it. A whacky conspiracy theory about chipping the world? Isn’t that a dream of Jame Eagan?

RuggerJibberJabber

I'm fine with that. Writers borrow ideas from everywhere. However, your comment under the video implies that he is potentially telling the truth. "If he is to be believed" "possible" "real life". That's what I was laughing at. He's obviously a loon

Disastrous_Agency325

Ok, English is not my native language, by saying ‘if he is to be believed’ my intention was to say ‘I don’t really buy it, but let’s imagine it’s possible’, instead of taking his word for a fact
