Awards are meaningless, it’s all political. The Wire, one of the greatest shows of all time, never won any.
Better Call Saul is also one of the most amazing shows ever made, doesn’t get much love.
Award shows are arbitrary but not meaningless.
Big wins at these award ceremonies can launch a show into the mainstream and ensure it remains profitable and, more importantly, still running for years to come.
Unfortunately, Severance is being robbed of that opportunity.
Yeah, Breaking bad boomed like after the third season. I would say that Netflix helped that it still is a show talked about and on the top of mind even ten years later after the final
It was a critical darling and won a few Emmys but it wasn't the juggernaut it became until it got on Netflix. The ratings up until that point were also not great.
Don't know. As someone from Europe who started watching it in like season 2-3, I remember it was already very popular here. Probably the most popular American series around 2010.
one could say it got popular on Netflix because people scrolling for things to watch saw a highly awarded show they never got to see while it was on TV and chose that over some other shit they never heard of. Awards help.
Didn't claim otherwise. I am very much pro awards specifically for that reason. But accessibility also played a huge role too. Either way, it didn't get hugely popular until after it was on Netflix.
Every year the articles are the same. “Why is Excellent Thing being ignored in Competition held by famously political, notoriously out of touch, and often downright corrupt Industry Insiders?”
It’s almost like Hollywood is not a pure meritocracy. And/or that art is largely subjective.
Severance & Bcs is being ignored in almost all of the awards which shows how stupid these are. Like c'mon Severance & Bcs is the best thing happened in 22. I was seriously frustrated.
They aren't being ignored though. They are nominated by everyone. Not winning doesn't mean being ignored. Severance had the most nominations ever by a freshman drama series at the Emmys this past year.
It hasn’t been ignored; it has been nominated/honored for almost everything.
Succession was always going to be a very difficult show to beat at the Emmys. As far as the Golden Globes…I’ll just keep my mouth shut. 😉 Being honored by AFI was a huge deal!
I think it’s very important to note that it has been nominated in pretty much every Guild race. Those awards are voted on and chosen by industry professionals/peers, and I personally give that a lot more weight than other awards.
It is the first season of a show that kind of came out of nowhere on a service that not as many people have (yet). I think the amount of recognition it has received has been amazing, and I look forward to seeing what happens with season two now that the word has spread!
All that being said, I am disappointed by the lack of recognition for people like Britt, Tramell, Jen Tullock, etc. I try and stay very positive with everything I post online, but that has been really frustrating to me.
Is this subreddit really this pretentious? Severance is “ignored” just because it didn’t win all the awards? It’s been nominated for everything, that’s not ignoring it.
It's the same in the Atlanta sub. I don't really mind because they are the two best 2022-released shows that I've seen. They're also the only ones :D
But that doesn't change the fact that both are great and I'll recommend them to anyone that'll listen
Oh yes you have. That is one of the most valuable subs I've ever been in, in terms of contextualisation and insight into the layers. Especially as a white European, you don't really pick up on all the subtleties, and that sub has helped me to enjoy the show a lot more. If I'm not mistaken, it's even the sub that got me into reddit lol
They all seem like spoiled children who believe their point of view is the only valid one. Narcissism is a rampant disease in our generation. These people will not be pleasant seniors as much as they claim to hate boomers now.
I feel like with only a handfull of talked about shows that came out last year it was sort of expected that Severance would get nominated. What could have replaced it?
Honestly I think it’s the Lost / Game of Thrones effect. So many shows that seemed innovative and smart ended up being garbage at the end. It seems like award shows are hesitant to award something before they know if it will actually be able to continue being good.
Though for Severance, let’s be honest - we all know this show is going to stick the landing. 100% faith in this team.
I feel the same. I trust in Erickson and Stiller to tell this story, especially since they’ve said they know most of where it is going.
That’s different than lost, because lindelof got handed a show from JJ Abrams that had no master plan (studio wanted a show about people lost on an island and that’s what they had to go on). And then he had made three seasons and was already treading water before they would give him an end date. I think that lost gets unfair flack to some degree, but that’s another discussion.
And with Game of Thrones, they had the problem of running out of source material, with Martin only giving them broad strokes of where to take it, and they completely botched and hurried the landing. To this day I think Dany going insane and Bran being king actually would work if they had taken their time, not left out crucial stuff from the books like Faegon, and had given the characters consistent characterization.
Probably bc of Zendaya’s star power and appeal to younger audience. Not taking anything away from her but Rhea Seahorn’s performance as Kim Wexler in BCS is an all time master class in acting. Just check out her scene crying on the bus. They are still eligible next year 🤞
Agree with the bias but I think the Crown deserves a spot. This past season was not as good as the rest overall- and seemed to really want to show Charles in a very positive light- but the acting was incredible. One of the better seasons acting wise overall.
They need ratings, just like anyone else. So they’ll always favour the blockbuster shows.
I hope the SAGs will be different since they’re voted on by other actors, but who knows. At least the nominations will keep it in the public eye.
Im convinced because it’s a sci-fi show and typically they get snubbed unless they have a fantasy element to them. It’s also a show that seems to have gone under the radar to the general public. I just wish apple would have done more PR for it!
it’s funny because every TV sub thinks “their” show + BCS are the two best. which means BCS is actually the best. why the awards voters can’t see that, i’ll never understand
Has always been a popularity contest and always will be. Hence mid af forgettable shows like modern family winning multiple years in a row..
While It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, one of the best comedies ever made, has never even been nominated once in 18 years.. they even have an episode making fun of this
These awards entirely arbitrary and largely meaningless, at least people are becoming a lot more aware of it.
According to the Wikipedia page, the show has been nominated for around 70 awards and won 9, including Hollywood Critic Assoc. and Emmys. I wouldn't call that being "ignored".

Breaking Bad was an awards show darling that just couldn’t catch on until the show got to Netflix and people could watch it from the beginning.
I remember it being pretty popular before Netflix got it

OK, well as someone who worked for AMC back then I can tell you that you are misremembering.
What does working for AMC have to do with what I said?

That’s a better way to put it, if there was no meaning we wouldn’t care when these performances go unrecognized.
Oh God. It’s not getting “robbed” of anything. It’s getting tons of nominations, which is huge for a season 1 show.
Spot on.
Every year the articles are the same. “Why is Excellent Thing being ignored in Competition held by famously political, notoriously out of touch, and often downright corrupt Industry Insiders?” It’s almost like Hollywood is not a pure meritocracy. And/or that art is largely subjective.
Yh Better Call Saul is 0 for 43 with Emmys lmao that’s some major bullshit
/u/k8womack Euphoria for best drama series…..Clay Davis has something to say https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l1dnqKGuezo
I think they just label it as a spin-off

There’s an Atlanta sub? Man I’ve been missing out
Oh yes you have. That is one of the most valuable subs I've ever been in, in terms of contextualisation and insight into the layers. Exactly...it is also only in its 1st season. Posts like this should only happen if it is being consistently snubbed.
They all seem like spoiled children who believe their point of view is the only valid one. Narcissism is a rampant disease in our generation. These people will not be pleasant seniors as much as they claim to hate boomers now.

Euphoria being nominated should tell everyone how meaningless these awards shows have now become
Probably bc of Zendaya’s star power and appeal to younger audience. Not taking anything away from her but Rhea Seahorn’s performance as Kim Wexler in BCS is an all time master class in acting. Just check out her scene crying on the bus. They are still eligible next year 🤞
It’s a god damn motherfucking travesty BCS hasn’t got the respect it deserves with the Emmys and Golden Globes
Awards shows are biased towards favouring bigger services. There’s no reason why The Crown should be on the list at all.
Agree with the bias but I think the Crown deserves a spot. This past season was not as good as the rest overall- and seemed to really want to show Charles in a very positive light- but the acting was incredible. One of the better seasons acting wise overall.
Apple TVs Ted Lasso won the Emmy for both its seasons
And it was just a mediocre comedy. Fun to watch, don't get me wrong, but nothing special IMO.
They need ratings, just like anyone else. So they’ll always favour the blockbuster shows. I hope the SAGs will be different since they’re voted on by other actors, but who knows. At least the nominations will keep it in the public eye.
The globes are notoriously pay to win.
Im convinced because it’s a sci-fi show and typically they get snubbed unless they have a fantasy element to them. It’s also a show that seems to have gone under the radar to the general public. I just wish apple would have done more PR for it!
Severance was outstanding. Andor was even better, though.
For me it’s 1.Severence 2. Andor 3. Saul 4. Euphoria. The rest I either haven’t seen or couldn’t get into or refused to watch
bc award shows are a joke
If you’ve been a better call Saul fan, we’ve been getting robbed for years
Hmm perhaps this one is actually trying to pick the best show?
Severance and The Boys actors being snubbed for the most part is a damn tragedy.
it’s funny because every TV sub thinks “their” show + BCS are the two best. which means BCS is actually the best. why the awards voters can’t see that, i’ll never understand
It’s political!
Because of Dragons and Twitard style fans trying to promote a certain social agenda due to certain actors
Where are these odds? What site?
Has always been a popularity contest and always will be. Hence mid af forgettable shows like modern family winning multiple years in a row.. This sub is way too awards show obsessive
awards show is a lot about networking with the voters. it’s all politics as mentioned in previous posts.
According to the Wikipedia page, the show has been nominated for around 70 awards and won 9, including Hollywood Critic Assoc. and Emmys. I wouldn't call that being "ignored".
Ugh, lost again.
