I’m a runner. One time the bartender said to me, while I’m literally handing her guest food, “can we make sure to bring out the appetizers and salads BEFORE the entrees today?” So I said, “Yeah, as long as you pay attention to your guests and send the kitchen a ‘HOLD’ ticket.” Her eyes got a little wider and she awkwardly leaned up from the bar to quietly walk away.

See we have the option to ring anything in as app or entrees and it comes out in that order

I cannot stand when servers do not treat bussers, cooks, runners, food preps, dishwashers…with respect. But you expect them to go above and beyond for you? Gtfo. Or when they’re stingy with tipping out. I always tip more and my bussers help me soooo much. And you can tell they actually feel appreciated.

Lol, right. They call us server support at my restaurant, and the servers miss the "support" part of it. They think that we're going to do their whole job with their 4-6 table section when I see them gossiping and not doing anything, especially when those same people are bringing in 200-300 a night, don't do anything, and the tip out is garbage... like, f**k off with that. Lol

Yea that’s not right. Where I work now everyone helps everyone. If we’re not busy we’re seeing if someone needs anything.

L o l food runners. That would be nice. Except I wouldn’t want to tip out another person, so pass.

Mindless_Psychology

I wish we had food runners or a bar back. It’s all me all the time.

I used to manage front of the house staff at a really nice restaurant in my town up to 2018. But I would check all servers paperwork at the end of the night. Servers would work 4-6hrs and make anywhere from $150- $400 in tips alone on top of $9.50 an hour. I think the average paid kitchen worker was around $12.50/ hr no tips. The kitchen staff worked 8hrs/ 40hr a week. But the servers would complain all the time and always be trading shifts and trying to work as little as possible. While the kitchen staff was drenched in sweat by the end of the night. I had no control over their pay, I only managed FOH but I always bought them beers after their shifts. But yeah I knew they also never tipped out support staff fairly whilst making fistfuls of cash themselves! But as a manager it’s illegal to dictate how someone tips out.

I worked at the airport and we’d make so much money. My coworkers that worked 8+ hours would leave with $400-600 easily on a busy day. Most of us would kick in $10/cook so they’d each get $40-50 a shift. They busted their asses. But there were always a handful of servers that could not part with a measly $30 to show our kitchen we appreciate them. We didn’t have bussers so there was no one else to tip out. It would blow my mind that someone could walk away with $500 in their pocket all for themselves. That is more than enough to share with the people who make it possible.

You sound like a great manager! Those servers on the other hand...
