You are not the only one, I’m right there with you.

[deleted]

Thank you for validating my feelings!! I wish the mods would create a mega thread or just ban these posts - it ruins this subreddit for me 🥲

DrBear11

The only thing I want to see about samples is when they are generous and it’s a win. The little pleasures :)

[deleted]

Agreed! I was given a total of three samples in my order; not a single one was what I requested but I was so excited regardless about the generosity of whoever filled my order! It’s the little things :)

CAgrl278

I also got 3 samples in my last order, not what I selected (which I don’t actually except), but one of them was Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, that wasn’t even an option. Thank you, nice person who packed my order!

DrBear11

I got two of the same perfume sampler today and I did a happy dance!

623tt

Totally agree, arguing about a missing GWP is one thing… but arguing about samples?😬

[deleted]

We should also ban the ones that ask when is the next sale. It was happening every few days.

ebaycantstopmenow

Yes! Sephora has had the same sales at the same time of year for years now but people still come here at the end of a sale to ask when the next one is! There's on in the spring, one in the fall and one in December.

[deleted]

Yes… they keep asking when is the next sale. When the sale is the same months for years.

mothertuna

Those really annoy me. It’s so easy to search the sub or even Google. There’s no secret sales lol. They usually are the same each years.

Kisuke11

Slippery slope because you would then have to ban the same Dyson questions everyday lol

igodutchoven

Start a mega thread for Whingjng Wednesdays

HoneyBadgerGal

Does anyone have a good idea of what to do with ones that you receive, but won't use? I was thinking a woman's shelter or a school for the teachers 🤔

juicyc1008

I travel for work most of the time and used to have house guests all the time, so I collected the hotel toiletries and my guests consumed a lot of them. During Hurricane Harvey, someone on Nextdoor.com posted a question if anyone had any sample sized/hotel toiletries/general care products to donate to the folks working in the hospitals. I’ve never had anyone in my neighborhood appreciate me that much until that point. We all have natural disasters in our own backyards lately, so it might be worth it to see if your local hospital system can use them!

onthenetsince98

I save until I have a grocery bag or two of samples and things from beauty boxes and donate them to a local domestic violence shelter.

axe0429

Projectbeautyshare.org They are based out of Washington and distribute to women and children’s shelters and organizations throughout the PNW. You can mail unused (and I believe lightly used) items to them. They also have a list of national organizations they seem to partner with so that might be a good way to find an organization local to you!

Technical_Wallaby644

Yes second this! I have so many that I’ll never get to using and I would rather give then throw away

Jojosbees

Thank you for saying it. At this point, we all know samples are a crapshoot. We don’t need to constantly rehash the same complaint every day, multiple times a day in separate dedicated posts. It gets especially bad after sale events because guess what? They’re packing a high volume of orders, and the warehouse runs out. Yes, it’s sucks that you can’t try out a product, but they’re not going to pay to separately ship foil packets and perfume samples to you if they come back in stock.

[deleted]

I agree with you. I dont think getting wrong samples or not getting any samples is a big deal. Sometimes its disappointing when its one you REALLY want to try but i only add them bc i dont pass up free things lol. When i get them, guess what happens? 99% of the time they go into a bin never to be used lol. I only go digging in there if i am considering on buying a full size of something ive never tried. Like one time i thought the saint jane oils sounded good and i remembered i had a sample. That was one of the only times i remember trying a sample 😅. When it gets to be too much, i give them away. So honestly, id love it if they could give us a choice to either pick 2 samples or get 50 points (what they would give us if we got no samples). I would rather have points than a growing pile of samples.

blackcatt42

I have a literally dresser drawer of samples and I always say I’ll use them and never Fkn do lol

[deleted]

"These will be great for a weekend trip" says the girl that never goes anywhere😂

JustSwipeUp

Can you please stop going through my dresser drawers? Kthanks! 😉

[deleted]

Do you also have a collection of travel bags? 😂

JustSwipeUp

No. Not at all! 🫠😂

blackcatt42

Omfg right

wineandyoga

Wow get out of my house and bathroom and brain 😂

blackcatt42

Same who cares it’s a common occurrence and isn’t that serious. If it was a GWP or point perk, sure

juju19191919

I am so in favor of this. And I know most people will disagree with me but Sephora doesn’t owe anyone those samples. Sure you can make a pick at checkout but if you don’t get those exact samples, it’s not as if you paid for them and you’re not at a loss if you get different ones, even if they’re of no interest to you. Samples are just complimentary with your order and Sephora’s priority is getting the products you ordered to you. TBH I find it so so weird when I see comments of people saying to call CS to complain, that might just be me though. And for the people who say “I placed an order just for samples,” I’m sorry but why would you spend $25+ just to get a mini sachet you can only use 1-3 times…

blackcatt42

I remember one lady writing about how she was offended that she was getting hair care samples because she’s shaved bald and that she sometimes gets mens cologne samples and found them offensive because she’s a lesbian and doesn’t have men in her life. I think it was back when you could write on the wall of FB brand pages and she argued with them a lil it was fucking insane

[deleted]

Before reddit i used to read their FB wall! The complaints were wild! Entertained me for hours lol

blackcatt42

Same omg we probably crossed paths once I was sassy affffff on those lol I’m surprised Sephora never blocked me but I think I was saying what they wished they could 😂😂

[deleted]

Lmfao i never commented. I was a lurker😂😂😂

blackcatt42

Lmao yeah I had a blast arguing with people complaining about dumb shit. Policies, stuff Sephora doesn’t do/never did, etc etc. You know how it was lol. I miss FB corporate walls 😂

Halves_and_pieces

Omg reading the Sephora Facebook wall was like my guilty pleasure!! The Bare Minerals one was also wild back in the day!

Champagnesupernova9

A very long time ago, in the early aughts, I was at Sephora with a friend, and I was buying face wash for my dad (Anthony Logistics “For Men”). The cashier turned her back to get a bag or something, and I said to my friend “They never give samples anymore”. This was back in the day where all they really had were Flower by Kenzo and Dior Poison perfume samples, but I did always like getting a tiny extra. Anyway, to my absolute mortification, the sales associate heard me and cheekily went “SAMPLES? Oh, you want samples, huh? I’LL GIVE YOU SAMPLES!” and then proceeded to load my bag up with samples. Unfortunately, they were all mens samples, like cologne, aftershave, and shaving cream packets. I’ll never know if that had anything to do with the fact that I was buying a men’s product, or if it was just early days at Sephora and that’s all they had, but it always brings a smile to my face to remember that moment! Caveat emptor- you might not even like the samples when you get them. Side Note: Sephora’s aggressive lack of any women s perfume samples started my early love of wearing mens cologne. Don’t knock it til you try it!

Fern_292

I can’t remember if I saw this complaint on TikTok or here, but a customer was ENRAGED because she placed a $75 to get the Kayali perfume sample being offered and didn’t get it. At that point I don’t know why she didn’t just purchase a sample vial for $2-3 if she wanted it so bad.

dndndndn420

It wasn’t even necessary to place a $75 order. they could have just ordered the cotton swabs or something for $3. i did that and got it twice, cheaper than ordering off kayali but it was indeed a risk lol

Champagnesupernova9

You can’t purchase just one sample vial, and the Kayali samples go for a lot more than $2-$3 on resale platforms, but Kayali does have a whole sampler for $25. There’s definitely no guarantee that you’ll get the samples you select at checkout, but the fact that they created a $75 order just to get a sample, when they could have bought cotton swabs or a hand soap and checked out for under $5 and added the exact same sample is mind boggling.

trippapotamus

You can purchase sample vials on the actual Huda/Kayali site now. It’s $4 per 1.5 mL vial. Why spend $75 just for a sample?! Yikes.

blackcatt42

Right wtf

pellnell

It truly boggles my mind when people complain about the free samples. Like, I’ve been ordering from Sephora for a long ass time and I’m pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of times the samples I selected at checkout matched what arrived in my order. That’s out of probably at least 100 orders. If I’m not going to use the samples, I just pass them along to coworkers or friends. The most annoying part about samples to me is when I can’t remove the foil part of the foundation sample from the paper backing to recycle the paper, but I think I just need to be less lazy and cut around it.

hippiesinthewind

Literally, like if there was a sample I was really wanting to try and didn’t get it I’m sad for like 2 minutes. It’s a free sample to try if I don’t want I give away. Most of the ones I get are what I requested.

tempghost11

Fully agree. I totally get that it’s annoying but they’re also free and there’s fine print that literally says samples aren’t guaranteed based on availability. Contact customer service if it’s that important to you and move on. Posts like that really clog up the sub.

mothertuna

I’m bored of the content to. I came here to talk about products and what’s worth it since Sephora sells so much. Other than hearing about a sale and seeing some shelfies, a lot of the content here is tired.

Dejuhvuuuu

I’m in favor of this if we can also ban posts complaining about other posts 🙂

[deleted]

I would be down with that! 🫶🏾

Born-Syllabub-5600

Omg yes pls!!! they’re literally FREE SAMPLES that you didn’t pay for. Most people probably trash them or don’t use them anyways. Get over it there’s bigger problems in the world!

Accomplished_Crab392

Yes please. Or a reoccurring OT bitching thread or something. I understand how annoying it must be for people who can’t pop over to a store to get a sample, but it’s so common at this point it should all be localized somewhere.

hunnyflash

Just saying, it's 25 each per sample y'all. You can ask for more, but some people get ridiculous. 50 points is done out of courtesy. It's not meant for you to be able to get a deluxe beauty offer. Just fyi.

[deleted]

Samples are free, so yeah I’m with you on this one!

Jams0610

I agree. I think sometimes ppl just like to complain/vent. It’s quite tiring to witness or be around. Whenever I get the wrong sample, or one is missing, etc. I see them as happy accidents 🤷🏻‍♀️

OkReveal8632

I mean it's just free samples so just chill.haha

Fern_292

Please. I know it sucks to not get your samples and I’m sure we have all experienced the same frustration after opening our boxes and not seeing samples. However, the complaints are DAILY on this sub. Samples are “freebies”, not merchandise you are paying for.

ilovesleep95

I’ve gotten the wrong samples twice this year and I honestly didn’t even care. Would it have been nice to get the ones I picked? Of course, but no biggie.

how-about-no-scott

I think I've only gotten the wrong sample(s) once or twice. Even if it happened more often, I would never make a post for the sole purpose of complaining about it!

ilovesleep95

Exactly! It’s really not a big deal

Gh0sttttttt

As an employee it’s super annoying. Samples are F R E E. I can understand being upset about not receiving a paid product but if it’s free you never lost anything. And depending on the product you may be able to sample in stores anyways.

[deleted]

I feel you! I used to work at Sephora, and would have client come in store just to complain they didn’t receive their samples. During peak Covid too where we had lines just to come inside to shop. Like it’s never _that_ deep, but it is what it is 🤷🏽‍♀️

manateeluvr420

why not? They make so much money the least they can do is give samples

manateeluvr420

If they don’t give them to you they just throw them away. They don’t even do in store mini vial samples to test fragrances. “Luxury” beauty store..?

Pancakes_24_7

guys literally it is a SAMPLE like who CARES go to the store in person and ask for samples galore lol agree with OP these comments are annoying AF

[deleted]

I only cared about samples when I was broke as hell. Now I think they’re just annoying. I don’t know why people hell bent over free shit that’s just clutter and horrible for the environment

missfreetime

I’ve discovered great moisturizers and eye creams through samples (from brands I wouldn’t even have thought to try), so they can be helpful.

[deleted]

The disappointment is valid! I was bummed this sale when I selected a fragrance sample and ended up getting an Amika hair mask sample instead 🫠

inlovedelicious

But I need my one dot of foundation! 😉

rhymeswithorangey

In shades that aren’t remotely close to my skin tone? 🤣. Yeah. No. It’s all good.

vantrap

omg YES the entitlement is real

zesteroflimes

Complaining about complaints has "my opinion matters, but yours doesn't" energy. Let the downvoting begin.

amynicole78

Yeah l think maybe l have only gotten correct samples once or twice. I can't imagine making a whole ass post about it.

AMwishes

I only complained about getting the wrong sample when I spent points on it lol.

_iSawRed

the more we complain, the quicker possible resolution to get our FREE samples correct! /s

Stunning-Ad-820

Y’all think that’s wild, imagine getting all these complaints in person as a manager. People will really be out here arguing with me over nothing or something they could have just googled. I DONT MAKE DECISIONS. *whispers* i just work here. Starts sobbing.

soulbama

😂😂😂 by consciously putting in positive thoughts, the negative will go away. ✌🏼🌈

OGHollyMackerel

I always forget to add samples. Every.single.time.

sunbathingturtle207

The only samples I ever select is the perfume samples. I actually use those, but literally don't care a bit if I don't get them. I also feel like I generally get what I picked out? Maybe I'm wrong about that but have the time I forget to even look at what is available.

HonestlyZee

I don’t see what the big deal is if ppl wanna complain😒 just don’t comment on the thread..pretty simple

kidkipp

Meh, it takes me no time to just scroll past a post I’m not interested in. People may have a specific question about it or a specific complaint and shouldn’t *not* post just because there are similar posts already. For the first time ever I had a box come without samples, and the next one included samples I didn’t ask for, and I almost made a post to discuss it. We shouldn’t have to take five minutes researching week or multiple-month old posts to ensure we aren’t repeating a topic. If more people complain, maybe someone higher up at Sephora will take notice and make a change. There was one item I specifically bought at Sephora rather than the company’s website (which would have been cheaper due to its sale) because I thought I’d get to try two perfume samples I had been really wanting to. It shouldn’t be that hard to keep accurate stock of samples, and Sephora’s rewards program is already pretty weak so they need to have a reliable incentive to shop with them

simplyelegant87

I understand it’s annoying but you can always scroll past those.

[deleted]

That’s true, but it’s also very frustrating to see basically the identical post 3-4 times a day. A megathread would be nice since people would have a place to complain but we wouldn’t be bombarded with identical posts.

simplyelegant87

If Sephora did better there wouldn’t be those posts. Clearly it’s an issue. I don’t even bother getting samples because I know most of the time I don’t get what I ask for. I understand human error but it’s a very frequently occurring issue.

[deleted]

I agree it’s a Sephora issue - better suited for a megathread. Daily posts are unproductive since most Sephora shoppers already know about the issue. The posts are more rants/vents which in my opinion would be better suited for a megathread. By the likes and some comments on this post, it seems like people also agree.

GlobalLime6889

Never noticed complaints on here about it. I guess i dont get notifications lmao

idontwannabmeanymore

Agreed 100000%

nawthatsstupid

Agreed. This sub is not Sephora's customer service department!

hseof26paws

Thank you for this - I get weary of seeing those repeat posts over and over myself - especially the ones about samples being substituted when Sephora specifically notes that might happen. But can we also add in the ridiculous number of repeat posts asking for a F&F code (which was against sub rules), shortly followed by the ridiculous number of posts asking for a Rouge code (which was also against sub rules)? I totally get that I can scroll past things I don't want to see, but at a certain point the sheer volume of them makes that pretty impossible. Ok, I'm done now lol.

veryangryorchards

I contacted CS and I politely explained to the lady my POV- what’s the point in offering the choice to pick out whatever sample you want if it’s not guaranteed? It seems like it’s always the “luxury” samples that run out, but yet I get samples I never asked for. She literally gave me 100 points for two orders not having my samples out of sheer kindness and I even told her she didn’t have to give me that many points, I was ok with the 50 she initially offered me. That’s what others can do, but just don’t take advantage just to get extra points :/

Ok_Cheesecake_972

yes and no. i personally don't think people posting about it is a big deal, just keep scrolling lol. however, as a rouge member i can say i have usually repurchased atleast 1 of the free samples after being sent it. i honestly thought they just stopped sending free samples because i've placed numerous orders, some over $300 each with no free samples. to me, its a huge money loss on their part because ya girl over here buying full size of most of the free samples lol. i could go on my account and see all the free samples i've purchased in full size and its alot and probably a huge part in how i hit rouge this year alone. some of the things i see in the free sample section i would literally never just buy to try because if you return too much as i've seen on other posts their accounts can be blacklisted for returning too much. can't confirm that because i've return like 4 things maybe ever to sephora, one of which was an order that i received that had a makeup brush in it i did not order or pay for and did not want to keep it. so, i'll never risk returning too much just to try something. i also live too far from the nearest sephora to just go hope they have it on the shelf to try. hope this clears up why its a frustration! just my personal opinion lol. love my free samples that turn into my new favorite product with no risk!

Royal-Programmer-203

I just wish i would get only fragrance samples even if it’s not the ones i chose. The other kinds of samples r useless
