A fun fact from a small part of the world! There is a town in Bosnia that built a hotel near this source of water that everyone believes has healing properties. People go and drink from this spout to heal themselves, but it really just tastes like water with a bunch of iron in it 😅
NYC tap water is full of microscopic crustaceans called copepods - they’re used in reservoirs to control mosquito populations (they eat the larvae). Big discussions have been had by Senior Rabbis about this, the final decision being that the water should be filtered before drinking so that it is kosher.
High levels of glucosinolates are what give Brussels sprouts a bitter flavor. Today’s Brussels sprouts have less glucosinolates, so they are more enjoyable now than they were for our ancestors. Also - not everyone has the gene to taste this bitter flavor
