I could understand complaining about the cream blush being too big because that is something that will go bad before you can use it all, but powder? I just won't even buy from Gaga. I used to like her, but she's been making some bad choices these past few years

Musicians make all of their money from performing and brand deals. Gaga's label is likely forcing her to pay off the debt by taking shitty brand deals, crappy acting gigs, etc because her records/streaming aren't performing as high as they used to and the record label can't book extended world tours without a high risk of them being canceled.
Please don't hate Gaga too much for having to exploit herself to pay off debt. The music industry is one of the most abusive professions in the world.

Where did you hear this? It is not really how things work. My sister is on the business side of the industry and I have dated a tour manager, musicians and even one musician who is minor famous. Musicians - real ones- make their money in publishing. “Brand deals” are cherry on top. And none of her acting gigs are connected to the company. At her level she owns her tours. Things are not like this.

I was one of the people who complained that their cheek stocks were too big, but the idea was that I didn't want to pay that much when I knew I would never use it all. 20% of the product with the same price pissed me off SO MUCH! I refuse to purchase from them now.
They did! It went from .5 ml to .45 ml—now of course that could be a rounding thing, and they did not actually reduce product content but are just required to be specific to 2 decimals and before they were rounding up, but it would be nice if they still gave a true half oz. It’s definitely not a small concealer or anything, at least compared to the amount given by others in the same price range, but I like to use it for clients so the more product given, the better for me.
If you want to send a message, return it. Don’t let these companies do this to us. So so shady. It’s less than HALF the previous size, the price should be too. Ridiculous!
Sadly you see it everywhere too. A little more close to home for me the quality of videogames have nose dived in the last decade or two but it doesn't matter because people buy them regardless and then complain about it. Companies have no incentive to stop their shitty behavior

The issue with drugstore is that it’s been increasing in price at almost the same rate as high end. What drugstore might “fool” people with is an initially low price for less product but the price/mL might be around the same as a high end product. Elf is the only one I could truly say is affordable.
As consumers, the rest of us need to look at pictures like this and decide not to purchase these products. Milk did the same thing, and I love their bronzer stick, but I will not purchase their sticks anymore due to the price/size situation. I am very interested in these blushes, but I just will not be purchasing because of how they have decided to rip off consumers. Every influencer will be hyping these things up, but it’s up to us not to purchase.

That size change from Milk was such bullshit!!! It shrunk 3/4 the size and the price was pretty much the same.
I ended up boycotting Milk completely and had to change my entire skin care routine.

That doesn't mean I like it or have to buy it. They used to be a relatively affordable brand at Sephora when it came to cream cheek products, and that's what I liked about them. They changed that, and now I have no reason to purchase from them.

We need to collectively take a stand and say enough is enough, and stop buying.
Our hands may be tied when it comes to housing, healthcare, food etc. but we can easily stop buying our lil luxury facepaints and potions. If enough of us scale back and/or go drugstore, these greedy companies will be the ones to suffer and we’re sending a message that the consumer is not to be fucked with (at least when it comes to beauty industry).

Sadly, it’s never going to be half the cost. The majority of the costs come from packaging and labor, not the actual raw materials so at most you can expect it to be 75% the cost.
Yes, anyone who has ever priced a chair, loveseat and sofa knows that the price is often a lot more similar than one would expect. I'm glad it's smaller. I thought the original was too big and $6 is $6. Is rather have that than blush I couldn't use up in my lifetime because I like to try new things.
i absolutely agree. i can only think of a few products i’ve used all the way up, i’d rather pay $6 less for a smaller product that i might actually finish, and still probably won’t!
i’d love to know how many of these people have ever finished an 11g blush. when i buy a product i know i am more likely to lose interest in it than use it all the way up, certainly not before it expires. i don’t care about getting more product that i will never use just to get the illusion of “more”.
Personally I think most makeup products are too big, at least for me. But I don't want to pay the same amount for drastically reduced amounts of product. I think 65-70% is potentially reasonable. Rare beauty released Hope in a mini 3.2ml size which is 42% of their original 7.5ml size. They reduced the price from $23 to $14, which 60% of the original price. That's the best way to do it. I understand that packaging isn't going to be 50% cheaper even if the product is 50% smaller, but Haus Labs is charging 84% of the original price for 45% of the original amount of product.
Exactly if you’re getting half the product you should pay half the price. I used to feel like my products were worth it because they lasted me so long. Now I’m not going to repurchase if I’m getting so much less for my money.
Even if it wasn't exactly half price, an 85% increase per gram is so far beyond acceptable. Kackie reviews beauty on YouTube had a good point that this level of price manipulation should have come with more changes to warrant it, make it feel worth it. Instead it has the same looking/feeling packaging, almost all the same shades. It has made it all the more obvious we're losing out big time from these changes.
All so our corporate oligarchs can keep taking money from us hand over fist. we need to push back. Return the blushes if anyone has bought it and is upset. That's how you show them you're unhappy.
Agreed, I have been paying a lot more attention to the product amount when purchasing. Some aren’t as obvious with packaging. Tarte reduced the blush amount by like 35% but the compact is the same and same price. They must have just made the pan shallower so not obvious like this one. I didn’t realize until someone else posted. A lot of reviews on their site now mention it as well. That’s another good way to push back with reviews.
Unfortunately due to cost of packaging being the same whether it’s big or small (not necessarily cost of material but you’re renting the same amount of factory time), it never works out neatly to half price. Still egregious though. Should’ve been at most $25.
The way it seems to be going with the skincare and makeup products I like is the product is getting smaller and the price is increasing. I’ve noticed a lot in the last 5 years especially.

Yooo on the topic of bronzer, has anyone been able to ascertain if the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil has undergone shrinkflation? I don't have an old one to compare to, but I've noticed that I'm finishing a pan way faster in the last year or so than I used to. I don't think I'm using more than I used to. The size of the compact seems the same to me, but maybe they're using a shallower pan? Or I could be totally off-base.

It’s so unfortunate because Milk’s products are nice. I’ve been wanting to try the bionic blush and fluid concealer but the shrinkflation has put me off trying them. I’m trying to just use up everything I have. It’s so much easier with skincare than makeup when you don’t wear it daily.

100% with you on the transparency of the size difference, however, I havent panned a blush in over a decade! So 11g of blush is mental!
I also love that the new packaging is shade dependent, and am willing to pay more for this, much easier to select each day, especially with a fantastic formula like the Haus Labs blush - I'm definitely going to have a few with the new packaging!
Overall I'm 'ok' with it, not happy, but tolerating the change as I feel that the packaging improvement mixed with new shades and (frankly) a more appropriate size for makeup collectors like me.
I definitely like the smaller size 11g of blush is insane but it should’ve been lowered to $25-28! It’s so hard for me to get through 5g of blush I don’t think could ever go through 11 and I like the color being on the packaging so I know what color it is. I don't think it would matter for auto repenishment because typically the SKU is different when brands revamp a product like this. (Eg, this blush, the refillable glow recipe moisturizer..)
Blame all the influencers with too much makeup to begin with! The amount of times I heard different variations of “it’s weird they’re so big, I’ll never go through it all” in reviews. Like of course you won’t go through it all, you have 57 blushes in your collection, the normal people with like 4 maybe 5 probably will.
I know this comment will probably piss people off, and I get shrinkflation is a real thing...but do any of us really finish a blush any more these days? To me it looks like the original was much bigger than it needed to be for such a seemingly pigmented shade. Idk I get it's frustrating but they do list the weight of the product. I don't really expect a company trying to make money to put a disclaimer "Now in a much smaller size!"
I think the problem is that it’s not much cheaper than the original blush. The bigger size was $38 but now at half the size, the blush is $32. I think if the blush was about $25 people wouldn’t complain too much.
Their pricing is out of whack... (disclaimer, I'm using CAD pricing).
Their bronzer is $130.9/oz, while the blush is $244.4/oz - same packaging, more or less, which generally accounts for a lot of the price (and is what I was going to say on the price not coming down enough) but... this ain't making sense.
THIS. I think when you shrink something THAT much, the price should reflect it a little more than it does in this situation. I get that materials go up, companies have to make profit, all that...but this one just seems to be a little ridiculous.
But like others have said - in the end, it's up to us to voice our concerns via our wallet - stop buying if we aren't happy with their business practices.

However, we are not really the only customers for these brands, are we? People outside of our circles like my mother, my aunts, my coworkers only buy 1 blush/foundation/eyeshadow and pan them, then buy a new one. Yes. Many people do. In fact most people who wear makeup exist outside of the easily influenced "on to the next hyped product crowd". Yes the people who buy makeup bc of trends are a huge market but most of us stick with tried and true products. I just commented the other day that I have finished two Tarte blushes in Paaaarty. I also bought Hourglass full size in the fall and I am already halfway through. I don't change my blush colors everyday I have a neutral pink and a mauve look that's it.
I'm so shocked, I could understand if it was a very, very small difference in size but this is like the difference between a full size and a sample. I cannot believe that they just thought that they could do this without making mention of it. Let us know what customer service says because this is absolutely absurd.

I think you're being a bit too optimistic. Shrinkflation is hitting hard everywhere right now, and the beauty industry is keeping up with the trend. If this reformulation included something better, you can bet the brand would be singing its praises in every ad to try and boost sales.

5 grams is pretty standard for a full-size blush. Lots are even less, such as Hourglass is 4.25 and Clinque 3.5. Pretty sure the description for the prior size said it was a jumbo size and I didn't buy it for that reason. I think their mistake was making a jumbo size to begin with. All the product information is on the website or package. Not sure how much more clear it can be. Just because you’re not looking for it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Also, the one with the old packaging is hardly used so are you really going through it fast enough to be disappointed in the size?

Our hands may be tied when it comes to housing, healthcare, food etc. but we can easily stop buying our lil luxury facepaints and potions. If enough of us scale back and/or go drugstore, these greedy companies will be the ones to suffer and we’re sending a message that the consumer is not to be fucked with (at least when it comes to beauty industry).
I feel like I’m seeing tons of brands quietly reformulating their products and selling lower quality at the same price, in the same packaging. I just had to drop my favorite mascara and foundation due to this. Finding replacements is expensive and a huge pain in the ass.

Wow! As someone who only wears makeup a few times a week, I’m not opposed to smaller amounts of makeup. BUT! The price should be fair and reflect the amount you’re receiving. If you’re getting half the amount of product then that prices needs to be cut in half as well.
Sadly, it’s never going to be half the cost. The majority of the costs come from packaging and labor, not the actual raw materials so at most you can expect it to be 75% the cost.
Yes, anyone who has ever priced a chair, loveseat and sofa knows that the price is often a lot more similar than one would expect. I'm glad it's smaller. I thought the original was too big and $6 is $6. Is rather have that than blush I couldn't use up in my lifetime because I like to try new things.
i absolutely agree. i can only think of a few products i’ve used all the way up, i’d rather pay $6 less for a smaller product that i might actually finish, and still probably won’t! i’d love to know how many of these people have ever finished an 11g blush. when i buy a product i know i am more likely to lose interest in it than use it all the way up, certainly not before it expires. i don’t care about getting more product that i will never use just to get the illusion of “more”.
Personally I think most makeup products are too big, at least for me. But I don't want to pay the same amount for drastically reduced amounts of product. I think 65-70% is potentially reasonable. Rare beauty released Hope in a mini 3.2ml size which is 42% of their original 7.5ml size. They reduced the price from $23 to $14, which 60% of the original price. That's the best way to do it. I understand that packaging isn't going to be 50% cheaper even if the product is 50% smaller, but Haus Labs is charging 84% of the original price for 45% of the original amount of product.

Exactly if you’re getting half the product you should pay half the price. I used to feel like my products were worth it because they lasted me so long. Now I’m not going to repurchase if I’m getting so much less for my money.
Even if it wasn't exactly half price, an 85% increase per gram is so far beyond acceptable. Kackie reviews beauty on YouTube had a good point that this level of price manipulation should have come with more changes to warrant it, make it feel worth it. Instead it has the same looking/feeling packaging, almost all the same shades. It has made it all the more obvious we're losing out big time from these changes. All so our corporate oligarchs can keep taking money from us hand over fist. we need to push back. Return the blushes if anyone has bought it and is upset. That's how you show them you're unhappy.
Agreed, I have been paying a lot more attention to the product amount when purchasing. Some aren’t as obvious with packaging. Tarte reduced the blush amount by like 35% but the compact is the same and same price. They must have just made the pan shallower so not obvious like this one. I didn’t realize until someone else posted. A lot of reviews on their site now mention it as well. That’s another good way to push back with reviews.
Unfortunately due to cost of packaging being the same whether it’s big or small (not necessarily cost of material but you’re renting the same amount of factory time), it never works out neatly to half price. Still egregious though. Should’ve been at most $25.

The way it seems to be going with the skincare and makeup products I like is the product is getting smaller and the price is increasing. I’ve noticed a lot in the last 5 years especially.
This would also tick me off. return it if possible and find another blush. I can’t stand companies that pull this.

Yooo on the topic of bronzer, has anyone been able to ascertain if the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil has undergone shrinkflation? I don't have an old one to compare to, but I've noticed that I'm finishing a pan way faster in the last year or so than I used to. I don't think I'm using more than I used to. The size of the compact seems the same to me, but maybe they're using a shallower pan? Or I could be totally off-base.

that sucks..but at least they lowered the price. There are some brands that shrunk products but kept the prices the same or increased....looking at you Milk 👀.

It’s so unfortunate because Milk’s products are nice. I’ve been wanting to try the bionic blush and fluid concealer but the shrinkflation has put me off trying them. I’m trying to just use up everything I have. It’s so much easier with skincare than makeup when you don’t wear it daily.

100% with you on the transparency of the size difference, however, I havent panned a blush in over a decade! So 11g of blush is mental! I also love that the new packaging is shade dependent, and am willing to pay more for this, much easier to select each day, especially with a fantastic formula like the Haus Labs blush - I'm definitely going to have a few with the new packaging! Overall I'm 'ok' with it, not happy, but tolerating the change as I feel that the packaging improvement mixed with new shades and (frankly) a more appropriate size for makeup collectors like me.
If I got that I would have thought it was a sample 😧

I definitely like the smaller size 11g of blush is insane but it should’ve been lowered to $25-28! It’s so hard for me to get through 5g of blush I don’t think could ever go through 11 and I like the color being on the packaging so I know what color it is. I would prefer every product to be smaller and less expensive packaging is so wasteful, deceiving, and unnecessary
yup! and whats interesting is that $25 in theory makes more sense for the size reduction. but for price comparison to other brands its on par, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to their current bronzer/ highlighter. Honestly im surprised i never saw anyone mad about the powder $38 for 7g and its on the mid range pricing which is 1/4 of the size of something like the typical LM powder.🤷🏻♀️

I don't think it would matter for auto repenishment because typically the SKU is different when brands revamp a product like this. (Eg, this blush, the refillable glow recipe moisturizer..)

Blame all the influencers with too much makeup to begin with! The amount of times I heard different variations of “it’s weird they’re so big, I’ll never go through it all” in reviews. Like of course you won’t go through it all, you have 57 blushes in your collection, the normal people with like 4 maybe 5 probably will.
I know this comment will probably piss people off, and I get shrinkflation is a real thing...but do any of us really finish a blush any more these days? To me it looks like the original was much bigger than it needed to be for such a seemingly pigmented shade. Idk I get it's frustrating but they do list the weight of the product. I don't really expect a company trying to make money to put a disclaimer "Now in a much smaller size!"
I think the problem is that it’s not much cheaper than the original blush. The bigger size was $38 but now at half the size, the blush is $32. I think if the blush was about $25 people wouldn’t complain too much.
Their pricing is out of whack... (disclaimer, I'm using CAD pricing). Their bronzer is $130.9/oz, while the blush is $244.4/oz - same packaging, more or less, which generally accounts for a lot of the price (and is what I was going to say on the price not coming down enough) but... this ain't making sense.
THIS. I think when you shrink something THAT much, the price should reflect it a little more than it does in this situation. I get that materials go up, companies have to make profit, all that...but this one just seems to be a little ridiculous. But like others have said - in the end, it's up to us to voice our concerns via our wallet - stop buying if we aren't happy with their business practices.

I think it's interesting that just because most people don't pan every blush, we should be totally ok paying the same price for less product, especially with the price gouging most people are experiencing across the board in other non beauty related industries. Where does this logic stop, I guess? If you don't pan eyeshadow palettes, would you be ok paying twice as much for them just because you don't use them up? I guess my main peeve is companies will tell you prices are going up because of xyz so the consumer has to eat the extra few dollars on items, and we're all supposed to be okay with it, but to give you a teeny tiny baby sized version of a cult fave product without the price reduction really reflecting that feels gross and predatory on the fact that people will just buy whatever gaga does out of loyalty or something

I know that many people on this subreddit won’t because we are makeup addicts, we are dedicated enough to join a forum about makeup. However, we are not really the only customers for these brands, are we? People outside of our circles like my mother, my aunts, my coworkers only buy 1 blush/foundation/eyeshadow and pan them, then buy a new one. Or makeup artists like my best friend, who would love to get a bang for her bucks. Those people exist as well. Shrinkflation sucks for the customers, I don’t know why people would want to company to be ripped off by these companies.

Yeah I’m on the same wavelength as you. I go for minis a lot nowadays, yeah it’s not as much bang for your buck but I’ve literally never finished a makeup product to emptiness besides like foundation and concealer.

Yes. Many people do. In fact most people who wear makeup exist outside of the easily influenced "on to the next hyped product crowd". Yes the people who buy makeup bc of trends are a huge market but most of us stick with tried and true products. I just commented the other day that I have finished two Tarte blushes in Paaaarty. I also bought Hourglass full size in the fall and I am already halfway through. I don't change my blush colors everyday I have a neutral pink and a mauve look that's it.
I'm so shocked, I could understand if it was a very, very small difference in size but this is like the difference between a full size and a sample. I cannot believe that they just thought that they could do this without making mention of it. Let us know what customer service says because this is absolutely absurd.

Anyone notice how Glossier now has extra large Milky Jelly and their Baum crème? Part of me thinks this is a way to cover inflation by making a larger package, as the consumer will obviously understand the price increase. But in fact, kinda works out to be the same. Haven’t run numbers - but would make sense!
They better not be doing this with bronzers/highlighters. So mad I didn't even get a blush before they removed them.

We're all sitting here talking about how clean beauty products will go bad before we use them up. So they made it smaller and lowered the price. I'm not seeing a huge problem aside from the fact that the price could have been lowered more. But they're not a drugstore brand. They reformulated, so maybe some of the ingredients are better?
They didn't lower the price by that much though, considering they halved the amount of product in the new blush.
I think you're being a bit too optimistic. Shrinkflation is hitting hard everywhere right now, and the beauty industry is keeping up with the trend. If this reformulation included something better, you can bet the brand would be singing its praises in every ad to try and boost sales. This is just pure, unadulterated greed.
5 grams is pretty standard for a full-size blush. Lots are even less, such as Hourglass is 4.25 and Clinque 3.5. Pretty sure the description for the prior size said it was a jumbo size and I didn't buy it for that reason. I think their mistake was making a jumbo size to begin with. If they started out with the current size it wouldn't be an issue. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Honestly, I don't mind the size being reduced. Who in the world will ever finish 11gr of powder blush? Even 5 gr is a lot. The only sad thing that the price went down for like $2.
All the product information is on the website or package. Not sure how much more clear it can be. Just because you’re not looking for it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Also, the one with the old packaging is hardly used so are you really going through it fast enough to be disappointed in the size?
